ALLAN, Catherine (Kay) Theresa (nee Costigan)
Passed peacefully away surrounded by her loving family on December 2, 2011, at the age of 84 years. Kay attended Mount St. Vincent University, graduating in 1948. She was a long time librarian at Brother Rice High School and a volunteer with St. Bon's College and the Catholic Women's League. Predeceased by her husband Bill; parents Rivlyn and Lillian Costigan of Bell Island; brother Richard, and uncle Monsignor Pat Kennedy. Leaving to mourn four children: Bill (Peggy) of Corner Brook; Peggy (Brad) Armstrong of Hinton, AB; Patsy (Lorne) Deering of Antigonish, NS; and Gerry (Margie) of St. John's; 14 grandchildren: Bill, Mark, Catherine, Marion, Jonathan, Naomi, Gemma, Emily, Connor, Stephen, Joseph, Kathleen, Patricia and Michael; and special sister-in-law Marjorie Corbett; as well as a large circle of friends, especially her bridge friends. Special thanks to caregivers Bernie, Ruby and Shirley and Drs. Tompkins, O'Dea, and Greenland, staff of Ambulatory Treatment Program and VON nurse Natalie. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Linda Barry (nee Whalen) announce her passing on Saturday, December 31st, 2011 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 63 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories : her husband of 46 years, Gordon; son: Jarvis (Nancy); grandchildren: Jake (Krista), Jade (Megan), Jessica, Stephanie (Chris) and Samantha (Rodger); great granddaughters: Natalie and Krystal; sisters: Lorraine (Russell), Jennifer (Doug) and Wanda (Hazen); brothers: Robert (Cynthia) and Jamie (JoAnn); brothers and sisters-in-law: Percy, Sheila, Margaret, Alveena, Aiden, Marina, Joey, Josephine, Loretta, Delia, Wayne, Ronnie and Terry; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Eric Bowdridge announce his passing on Monday, December 19th, 2011 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, at the age of 76. Passed peacefully away on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, Catherine Mary Chatelet (Nee Kennedy) in her 82nd year. She leaves to mourn her step-brother James (Betty) Brake, Curling; sister-in-law Jeanette Kennedy, Norris Point. She will also be sadly missed by her numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Marcel Chatelet, parents Richard and Drucilla Kennedy, brothers John and Anthony Kennedy, sister and brother-in-law Margaret and George Jones, nephews Douglas and Kevin Jones and baby niece Sheila Jones. Special thanks to staff at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital 4th Floor and Palliative Care Unit and special friend Lynn Kulchyski. Cremation has taken place at Catherine's request. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Madeline, 2 sons: Bernard (Stella) Cornect and Roger (Priscilla) Cornect, all of DeGrau, 2 daughters: Marian Cornect of DeGrau, Deborah Cornect (Lawrence Burke) of Nova Scotia, 7 step-daughters: Carolyn, Patricia, Irene, Elizabeth, Nancy, Joanna, Paula and 3 brothers: Maurice (Dot) of Nova Scotia, Robert of DeGrau, Leonard (Eileen) of DeGrau, 3 sisters: Riza Brownridge of British Columbia, Marina (Emmanuel) Simon and Claudia Cornect, all of Cape St. George, 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Jack & Esther Esban. Regina taught school for many years from the Seventh Day Adventas, from which she retired and was a strong member and supporter of the N.T.A. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gerald James Gordon announce his passing on Saturday, December 31st, 2011 at the Western Memorial Hospital in his 66th year. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Louise (nee Curtis). His two children Tina (Harley) Saunders, of Deer Lake, and Jerry (Jessica Gushue) of Alberta. three grandchildren Jeremy, Emily and Alex. His siblings George (Emily), Ronald (Cavelle), Terrance, Dorothy (Terry) Collins all of Pynn's Brook, Daryel (Lorraine), Gloria (Carl) Langdon both of Deer Lake, Charles (Carolyn) of Bonneyville, Alberta and twin sister Geraldine Chapman of Torbay. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Mary (Minnie) Elizabeth Hatch announces her passing on Saturday December 24, at her residence in Loch Lomond at the age of 95 years. Mary was predeceased by her husband Jordan Hatch, an infant son, and her brother Nelson Miles. She leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories her loving family, son George (Patricia) Hatch, Corner Brook, daughters; Joan (Gordon) Grant, Torrance, California, Phyllis (Gerald) Baird, Loch Lomond with whom she resided, Audrey (Raymond) Findlay, Port aux Basques, Edythe Doiron, Tujunga, California; 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, sister-in-law Margaret Miles, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, and many, many friends. Visitation took place on Monday from 7-9 PM and continued on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at East Haven Funeral Home. It is with deep sorrow that our family announces that Laura Philomena "Phil" Hawco, 62, died December 17th, 2011, following a courageous battle with a short term illness. Born in Edmonton, AB and growing up in Corner Brook, NL, she was the youngest daughter of Leonard and Marion (Cantwell) Hawco. Phil graduated from St. John's General Hospital with her R.N. and practiced nursing for 30 years. She was also the Director of Nursing at Western Memorial Hospital for over 10 years. She recently moved to Dartmouth, NS from Hamilton, ON with her sister, Carol Ann Andrew. Surviving are sisters, Carol Ann Andrew, Dartmouth, Rae Foshay Langille, River John; brothers, Gerard Hawco (Gillian), David Hawco (Shirley), both of Alberta. She was predeceased by her loving sister, Marlen Barrett. Her close nieces and nephews will miss her dearly and include; Ingrid (Shane), Cole, Chase, Julia, Heidi (Derrick), Jared, Nathaniel, Tristan, Anna (Bill), Liam, Riley, Stephen, Christal, Charlen, Andrea, Christine, Suzanne and Sara. Pearl arrived in Norris Point as a War bride on February 27, 1946, she left England on January 26, 1946 with her 2 year old daughter and husband and travelled by ship in a storm and eventually arrived in Lomond, NL., where they had to stay with relatives for the Habour to freeze over before coming to Norris Point on horse and sligh exactly one month later to be greated by a waving Aunt Nellie Mudge. She made many friends in many communities along the Northern Pennisula and loved to go to a time and was very happy in beautiful Bonne Bay. Phil, loving husband, father, grand-father and friend, passed away on Saturday, December 17th, 2011 at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Halifax at the age of 72 years. Phil was born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick and joined the RCMP in 1958. He was first stationed in Corner Brook in 1960 when he met his loving wife, Nora Murphy. He then spent the next 36 years posted in a number of communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. In 1994 he retired as a Staff Sergeant from the Stephenville Detachment and resided in Stephenville. Phil was a loving husband to Nora, father to: son Darrell (Verna), daughter Phyllis and a loving grandfather to Andrew and Danielle. He has one brother Bob (Karen) and two sisters, Barbara Degan and Louise Tobin. He will be forever missed by his family and friends. It is with deep sadness that the family of the late Amelia Catherine Roda announce her peaceful passing on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the Halifax Infirmary division of the Queen Elizabeth Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, NS, at the age of 92 years. She was born in Port au Port, to the late Michael and Margaret Abbott (nee Lawlor) and graduated from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, NS in 1938 at the age of 18. After graduation she worked until her marriage in 1946 after which she and her husband, Remigio "Ray" moved to Paris, France for the next 14 years where all of their 4 children were born. She was an avid reader, loved crossword puzzles, endured gardening with Patricia during those beloved summers in Newfoundland, and enjoyed extensive travel with her family and friends during her years in France and Germany. She loved music, particularly opera and was herself proficient in voice and piano. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her daughters Frances (Gail Barg) and Patricia (John) Lutz of New Jersey and their families; sons Michael (Vicki) of Halifax, and Robert of Scottsdale, Arizona and their families; her beloved sister, Patricia of Halifax; grandchildren Richard, Nicole, Christine, Stephen, Matthew and John; sisters-in-law Ruth Souza and Paula Roda of Massachusetts, and Nancy Codispoti of Virginia; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. It is with great sadness that the family of Glenn Fraser White announce his passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on December 28, 2011 at the age of 49 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories brothers: Clifton (Marie), Allister, Lloyd, John, sister Marjorie, and four nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by parents Sidney & Geraldine White, and brother Kevin. Visitation to take place at Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road on Friday December 30th, 2011 from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Hedley Wiseman announce his passing on Friday, December 30th, 2011 at Corner Brook Long Term Care Home, DVA Ward at the age of 92 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories is his wife of 63 years, Ethel (nee Reid); two daughters: Janice (Richard Tysoe), The Netherlands and Debra (Terry Park), Lark Harbour; grandchildren: Lucas (Michelle) Colangelo, Matthew Willis, Stephen Park, Brittany (Mitch) Park; great grandchildren: Nathan and Rachel Colangelo, and Brayden Park; as well as extended family and friends. Friends visited Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. The funeral service took place from Fillatre's Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, January 2nd at 1:00 p.m. Reverend Nellie Thomas officiating. Interment followed at St. James Anglican Cemetery, Lark Harbour. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the VON or the St. James Anglican Church, Lark Harbour. YOUNG, Bernard Thomas
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Bernard Thomas Young announce his passing at the Palliative Care Unit in the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on December 3, 2011 at the age of 83 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Chloe Young, children Rick (Leanne) Young of Goose Bay, NL, Kelly Young (Darren Wheeler) of LethBridge, AB, Tyson Wilkins of Ottawa, ON, Sabrina Humber (Lorne Hoskins) of Stephenville, NL, and grandkids Chad Young, Adam Young, Allysia, Christopher, and Christian Hoskins, also a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is predeceased by daughter Cindy, parents Albert & Josephine Young, Sister Gladys Welsh, brothers Adolphus Young, Howard Young, Richard Young, and Calis Young. Visitation will take place at Country Haven Funeral Home 167 Country Road on Wednesday December 7, 2011 from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. and on Thursday December 8, 2011 from 10-12 A.M. Funeral service will take place on Thursday December 8, 2011 from the Country Haven Funeral Home Chapel at 2 P.M., with Reverend Malcolm Palmer officiating. Interment to take place at a later date. As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made to the Bay of Islands S.P.C.A. The family guest book may be signed or memorial donations may be made by visiting our website at www.country-haven.ca. Bernard's family would like to acknowledge all extended family members and numerous friends, much gratitude and gratefulness to all of Bernard's and Chloe's neighbors in Hughes Brook, extreme appreciation to all the medical staff and wonderful nurses at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, and extra special thanks to Dr. Robert Young and Kimberly Walters.
