ALLEN, Mrs. Shirley (Betty)
Born in 05/12/1943

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Shirley (Betty) Allen announce her passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Thursday, December 3, 2009 in her 66th year. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband Gerald of 47 years, sons: Chris (Shirley) and Shane (Vanessa), mother Louise Wilkinson, brother Gordon Wilkinson (Phyllis), grandchildren: Myles, Kelsey and Rachel Allen, sister-in-law Helen (Walter) Vincent, brother-in-law Aubrey, sister-in-law Phyllis Allen, special friends Marina and Cyril Bishop. She is predeceased by her father Wallace Wilkinson. Visitation will take place on Friday, December 4, 2009 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. and Saturday, December 5, 2009 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 6, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Memorial United Church in Curling with Rev. Clayton Parsons officiating. Cremation to follow. Interment to take place at Mount Patricia Cemetery at a later date. ANDREWS, Mr. Gordon William
Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Center, after a short illness, on December 11th, 2009, Gordon William Andrews, aged 84 years. Predeceased by his parents, Bill and Winnifred Andrews and his brothers: Wes and Bert. Leaving to mourn: his wife, Bertha; his children: Bill (Joan) Andrews, Doug Andrews, Audra (Paul) Lawlor and David (Michelle) Shears, NS; his sister, Ruth Klerorick; his brother, Roy (Clara) Andrews, ON; his grandchildren: Sherry, Jennifer, Sarah, Jessica, Abigail and Emily; brothers and sisters-in-law: Margaret (Jim) Hamilton, Sue Blagdon, Harold (Irene) Thornhill and Ewart (Edna) Thornhill; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and a large circle of friends. BARRETT, Mr. Calvin Walter

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Calvin Walter Barrett announce his passing at his home in Port Loring, after a long illness with diabetes, on Saturday, December 26th, 2009, in his 39th year. He was the loving father of Xandria of London, Ontario, beloved son of Linda (Kirby) and a stepson of Willis Barry Blundon, a dear brother of Robin (Adele) of Nova Scotia and Jason of Newfoundland. Calvin was predeceased by his father, Walter George Barrett. Fondly remembered by his wife, Michelle Kirkpatrick of London, Ontario; mother- in-law, Shirley Kirkpatrick of Port Loring, Ontario and many others in the Port Loring area. The family will be receiving family and friends from the Anglican Church in Howley on Wednesday, December 30th, 2009, from the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., from where also the funeral service will take place on Thursday, December 31st, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with the Lt. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Alexander Joseph Bennett announce his passing at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Stephenville on Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at the age of 74 years. COOK, Mrs. Mary Adeline (Keough)
Born in 07/09/1930 at Platecove, Newfoundland, Canada

Entered peacefully into rest, December 22, 2009, after a three year battle with a debilitating disease. Mary was born in Platecove, NL, September 7, 1930. She was one of eight children born to Stephen and Margaret Keough. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children: Lyle Cook, Mary Lynn Walker (husband Earl), Shannon Sheppard (husband Patrick), Gail Jones (husband Jeff); grandchildren: Lori Lynn, Alex and Caitlyn Cook, Byran and Christopher Pirtle, Tammi Furlan, Nicky Cook-Desler, David Sheppard, Maria Grondin, Matthew, Stephen and Kaila Jones; 19 great-grandchildren; siblings: Kay Mitchell, Lucy Moore, Philamena Walch, Mike Keough and Felix Keough. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lynn Cook; son, Donald Cook; parents, Stephen & Margaret; as well as brothers: John Thomas and William Keough. She married Lynn Cook in St. John's, NL, October 25, 1951 - the love of her life. They spent 20 years in the military where they did extensive traveling, which included living in Germany for three years. After retiring, they chose Spokane, WA to make their home and have lived there since 1971. Visitation Dec. 29th at Riplinger Funeral Home, 4305 N. COOK, Mrs. Emeline Ann (nee McEachren)

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Emeline Ann Cook announce her passing at Thorntonview Long Term Care, Oshawa, ON on Thursday, December 24th, 2009, at the age of 94. Beloved wife of the late George Edgar Cook. Predeceased by parents, Catherine Ann and Archibald; brothers: Raymond, Steve, Cecil and John; sisters: Marybell, Cassie and Ettie. Leaving to mourn, sisters-in-law: Winnifred McEachren, Elvina Matchem and Louise Cook, along with a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. DUST, Mr. Alvin Irwin

Alvin I. Dust
, born March 20, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois, died December 27, 2009 at Stirling Heights Long-Term Care Facility, Cambridge, Ontario. In WW II, he served with distinction with the U.S. Army Signals Corp in the Pacific theatre. Afterward, he earned his Ph.D. in English Restoration literature (Charles Cotton's works) from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana in 1959. He accepted a position as one of the original members of the English Department at the newly founded University of Waterloo. Professor and mentor of many, he taught students in courses ranging widely, from Rhetoric to Drama to Shakespeare, retiring in 1990; he continued to teach a distance learning course in Shakespeare until 2001.
Dr. Dust was active in Catholic education and served as a Bishop's appointee and later Chairman of the Board of Governors that oversaw St. Jerome's and St. Mary's Catholic High Schools in Kitchener. Dr. Dust was tireless in his support for full provincial funding for Catholic high schools and in fundraising efforts prior to the institution of full support. He loved his family, his faith, English literature, rare books and bibliography in general, a good vigorous intellectual debate on almost any topic, and his pet cats - not necessarily nor consistently in this order.
Alvin was predeceased by his beloved wife of 47 years, Verne Cecille (nee Purcell) and is survived by his eldest son Julian (Associate Professor of Chemistry, Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, Corner Brook, NL), his daughter Andrea (Veterinary Doctor, Ayr, Ontario) and his son Evan (Transportation Consultant, Vancouver, Washington, U.S.A.). He is also survived by his grandsons, Andrea's son Michael Zavitsky and Evan's sons, Nicholas and Andrew Dust, as well as nephews, nieces and cousins throughout the United States.
The family thanks the Staff of Stirling Heights Home, most especially the staff of Blair House, for their care of Alvin and for their solicitude. Prior to admission to Stirling Heights, Alvin had in-home care through the Seniors for Seniors agency and the family is grateful to all his caregivers, particularly Karen Knechtel. The kindness of clergy in performing the rites of Anointing of the Sick and Last Rites are appreciated. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, Waterloo, Dr. Dust's home parish, on Wednesday, December 30. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Alzheimer and Cancer Societies, St. Mary's Hospital Building Fund, and in keeping with his love of cats, Pet Trust, c/o The Ontario Veterinary College (University of Guelph) and Toronto Cat Rescue, are greatly appreciated. ELFORD, Mr. Francis Austin

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Francis Elford announces his passing on Wednesday, December 16th, 2009 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook, at the age of 75 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his brothers: Autley (Donna) and Claude (Audrey), Curling; sisters: Doris Elford, Saint John, NB, Lena (Frank) Curnell, Curling and Lorraine (Arthur) Goodey, Pasadena; sister-in-law, Lydia Elford, Alberta; as well a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Mary Elford; brother, Newman and nephew, Greg. Passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital on Monday, December 28, 2009, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He was in his 64th year. Beloved father of Lisa Marie and grandfather of Courtney and Ireland of Ontario. Brother of Marg (Gerald), Corner Brook, Janette (Llewlyn), Alberta, Gary (Evelyn), Corner Brook, Denise (Byron), Corner Brook, Diane (Don), Corner Brook, Peter, Ontario, Rodney, Corner Brook and Darren (Mary), Alberta. All his nieces and nephews: Donna, Diane, Tracy, Trina, Christina, Tonya, Phillip, Shane, Christina, Garrett, Andrea, Tanya, Ashley, Debbie, Jessica, Ashley, Eric, Candice, Justin and Chantel. He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Christina (1998) and his brother Arch (1997). The funeral took place in Estevan, Sask. on Thursday, December 31st, 2009.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late William John Fitzgerald announce his passing on Monday, December 14, 2009 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, at the age of 73 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories: his wife, Doreen, of 42 years; daughter, Kelly Pender (Steve) of Corner Brook; granddaughter, his little angel, Zoe; son, John Junior (Joanne) of Ottawa; brother, Eric (Joyce) of Corner Brook; sister, Mary Kearley (Dave) and Marilyn Hewett (Ted) of Corner Brook; brother-in-law, Allan Curnew (Mary) of Montreal, as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. Our lives changed forever when John Fitzgerald passed away suddenly on December 14, 2009, sadly leaving his family and a large circle of friends. The family would like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to all who helped alleviate the sorrow of John's passing.
Thank you to Doctor Canete, Doctor Westby and all their staff for their acts of kindness in caring for John in his time of need. A special thank you to Dr. Ganguly and all the staff at the Health Science Center and also a very special thank you to the staff at the Chemotherapy Unit at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital and to all the doctors and nurses who helped John enjoy his life to the fullest for the last nine years.
Thank you to all our wonderful family and friends for the gifts of food to our home, the generous donations given in John's memory, visits to the funeral home, the beautiful flowers at the funeral home and those sent to our home, the thoughtful sympathy cards, the phone calls and e-mails to let us know you were thinking of us. It is impossible to thank everyone personally, however, please be assured that your presence and acts of kindness did not go unnoticed. We extend our sincere gratitude to all John's friends for their caring, kindness and support.
Thank you to Archbishop Stewart Payne for an inspiring Memorial Service and to the pallbearers, to the Funeral Directors and all the staff at Country Haven Funeral Home for making a sad time a little easier. Your guidance and assistance were greatly appreciated.
John always felt he was blessed with the finest family and friends. There are not enough words to express the appreciation we feel for your kindness and caring.

To my family and friends, I am now reunited with my wonderful parents Lionel and Hannah Carberry, my sister Mary and brothers Gordon and Austin, I am so happy to see them. I know my husband Bob of 64 years, son Murray (Hilary) of Rocky Harbour and daughter Gail (Mark Brantana) of Houston, Texas will miss me greatly. I will be watching over them as well as my surviving sisters: Alma Drasdowski, Audrey Shellard, Shirley O'Neill and Caroline (Lawrence) Byrne; brother Ralph; sister-in-law Mabel Carberry, and all my nieces and nephews. I had a long and full life for which I am truly grateful. Sarah Winifred (Hayes) Tradd
, aged 73 years, of Middleboro, died at Oak Hill Nursing Home, Middleboro on Wednesday, December 2, 2009, after a period of failing health. Born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, Canada, August 10, 1936, she was the daughter of the late James and Christina Hayes. She will be warmheartedly remembered as a devoted mother, and grandmother, and sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Sarah was a gourmet cook, an avid animal lover, and especially enjoyed traveling. Survivors include one son Eugene R. Tradd of Newbury Port, two daughters: Rhonda and her husband Peter Smith of Middleboro, and Jennifer N. Tradd of Norwood, five grandchildren: Benjamin, Emily, Rachael, Peter, and Stephen. She is predeceased by one grandson, the late Andrew Tradd. Visiting hours have been omitted by the family's request. George was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Ella Woodman. Cremation has taken place. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Michael James Yetman announce his passing on Monday, December 28th, 2009 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, at the age of 95 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories: his wife of 71 years, Mary; children: Patricia (Larry) Dunphy, Michael (Pearl) Yetman, Geraldine (Bill) Church and Barbara (Tor Naess); 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; brother, Ron (Fanny) Yetman, Ottawa, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Carolyn Yetman; great-granddaughter, Kelsie Barnes; parents, James and Anne Yetman; brothers and sisters: Harry Yetman, Jospehine Madore, Benedicta Collins, Gus Yetman and Margaret Pike. Friends may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark's Avenue, on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, December 31st at 10:30 a.m. from the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer, Mount Bernard Avenue, with Monsignor Edwin Gale officiating and Homilist Father Joseph Kelly. It is with great sorrow that the family of the late Douglas (Dougie) Young announce his peaceful passing at his family home in Shallop Cove on Thursday, December 24, 2009, at the age of 62 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories: his brother, Ivan Young (Alice), Barachois Brook; sisters: Barbara Kovich, Loretta Lee, Shallop Cove, Magdalene Cochrane, Kippens, Isabel MacDonald, Heatherton, Janet Willford (Thomas), Medical Lake, Washington, US; special niece, Janet Kovich; special caregivers: nephew, Andrew Hickey, Edith Dwyer, Sylvia Lee; sister-in-law, Madonna Young, St. George's; brother-in-law, Howard Anderson, Toronto and a very large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, John E. and Nancy Young; sisters: Marie, Emma, Imelda; brothers: Fintan, Ted; sister-in-law, Margurita Young; brothers-in-law: John Kovich, Daniel Cochrane, Michael MacDonald and John (Jack) Lee. Visitation will take place from St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, St. George's, on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., from where the Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, December 28, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with Father Gerard Patry officiating. Cremation will follow the service at the Humber Valley Crematorium with interment taking place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Shallop Cove. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church Memorial Fund. Passed away peacefully in his 83rd year at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville, on Thursday, December 31st, 2009. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Alice of 54 years, his two sons: Faron (Joyce), Springhill, NS, Glenn, Barachois Brook; four daughters: Barbara, Barachois Brook, Karen McGraw (Bertrand), Tracadie, NB, Beverley (Denis), Ste. Julie, PQ, and Lisa Lucas (Brian), Stephenville Crossing; eight grandchildren: Shawn (Mylesa), Megan, David (Marie-Helene), Allison, Michael, Simon, Dakota, Ty Andre; one great granddaughter: Sofia; five sisters: Loretta Lee, Isabelle McDonald, Magdalene Cochrane, Barbara Kovich and Janet Williford; as well as numerous family and life long friends. Visitation will take place at St. Josephs Parish in St. George's on Saturday and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m, from where the funeral service will be held on Monday, January 4th at 11:00 a.m. Father Gerard Patry officiating. The family invites family and friends to join them at the Legion in St. George's following the interment. Special Thanks to Dr. Edwin Parsons, Dr. Ganguly (St. John's), Dr. Bruff and the wonderful nurses of the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital Palliative and Medicine Unit for their kindness and support during the care of our father.
