PARK, Olga Doris (Pike)
September 30, 1929 - December 21, 2008
One year has passed since we lost her, the sadness and loneliness still remain.
Olga was born in Norris Point NL, the eldest daughter of nine children to Stephen
and Valerie Pike. She went to school and worked in her community until she
moved to Corner Brook as a young woman and met the love of her life, Richard.
They married in 1952 and had five children: Betty Gallant, Charlottetown, Brian
(Suzanne), Corner Brook, Charles (Valda) Cornwall, PEI, Allan (Karen), Lloydminster,
AB and Dianne (Kerry) Boswall, Charlottetown. One of the greatest joys in her
life was her 12 grandchildren: Beverley, Melissa, Christine, Robert, Roy, Stephen,
Richard, Graham, Julie, Christopher, Valerie and Spencer; and her only great-grandchild,
Reid. Mom was always up to date with the goings on in all of our lives and
was always there to lend an ear or a shoulder or a dish of candy to try to
make things better.
We will miss her big cooked dinners, her love of shopping, her desire to go
for a drive to sightsee and the late night chats that would often go on until
the early hours of the morning, not to mention the phone calls to share our
news or to catch up with each other. There will forever be a void in our lives
in not being able to pick up the phone to fill her in. Mom's desire to live
life was imminent, even though she faced many health issues in her last few
years. In her last months, it was very important to her to have cataracts removed
from her eyes so she would be able to see her brand new great-grandson as clearly
as possible.
Olga Park will be sadly missed by her remaining siblings: Eric (Betty) Pike,
Betty (John, predeceased) Parsons, Evelyn (Lloyd) Colbourne, Margaret (Danny)
McCarthy. She was predeceased by her parents, Stephen and Valerie; brother,
Gordon Pike; sisters: Eudora and Edna. Her sister, Jean Prosper, suffered her
loss, but passed away the following spring. "Hun" was also predeceased by her
in-laws, Charles and Pearl Park, Rowena Chaulk and Raymond Park. She will be
lovingly remembered and forever missed by family, relatives and friends.
The family of the late Olga Park would like to sincerely extend thanks to everyone
who helped us during this most difficult time. Thank you to Dr. Grant Matheson,
the doctors and nurses at the QEH Charlottetown; QEll Halifax; and WMRH Corner
Brook. The care and compassion Mom received will never be forgotten. Thank
you to Fillatre's Funeral Home, Lasting Impressions Florists, Rev. Derek Thomas,
the organist and the choir from All Saints Church. A heartfelt thank you to
Faye at Belvedere Funeral Home for your attention shown to us in making arrangements
for Mom to go home. And to Florence and Mindy at Fillatre's Funeral Home for
being on the other end of that correspondence with the support we needed.
Thank you to all who brought food to our homes, attended wakes and the funeral,
sent cards, e-mails, flowers and gave donations in Mom's memory to All Saints
Church. Thank you to the All Saint's Outreach group for providing lunch and
your support.
A special thank you to all our family and friends who touched our hearts and
helped ease our sorrow, share our pain and our loss. We are truly grateful.

SAUNDERS, Mary Catherine (Cathy) (nee Murphy) R.N.
Age 44
It is with profound sorrow we announce the death of Cathy Saunders on
December 17, 2008, at Oromocto Hospital, Oromocto NB, after a long struggle
with Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Disease. She was the beloved daughter of James
and Gertrude (Mulrooney) Murphy, of Corner Brook, NL, little sister to
Gary Murphy (Chrystal) of Dartmouth NS, and enduring friend and co-parent
to former husband Shawn Saunders (Moncton NB). She leaves three daughters,
Nichole, Stephanie and Rebecca, to carry her legacy of warmth and care,
talent and intelligence, beauty and humour. Nieces and nephews include
Zack and Ashley (Clarenville NL), Sarah and Matthew (Corner Brook NL),
and Lisa (Dartmouth NS). Cathy was the brightest butterfly in the 1981
graduating class of Presentation Central High School in Corner Brook.
She went on to distinguish herself at Western Memorial Hospital's School
of Nursing (Class of 1987), where her compassionate, sparkling personality
and her quick mind proved a brilliant combination in her chosen career.
Jim and Gert made her a princess on her wedding day, August 1 1987, just
as she had always dreamed. Then she and Shawn began the military life
that would take them to Petawawa, ON; Wainwright AB; Halifax, NS and,
in 1999, Oromocto, NB, where Cathy nursed, became a mom, and continued
to build many friendships. Her last job, at the Dialysis Unit of the
Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital (Fredericton NB), produced more patients
who asked for her by name, and more colleagues who loved and respected
her. Cathy's greatest achievement and greatest pride was as a mom to
her girls. It was a joy to see the love and laughter in her home, and
the delight they took in one another's company. As she had always been
everyone's friend, she now became everyone's mom, with an open door and
a well-stocked fridge. She was proud to cheer for her girls and their
friends, and will be missed by the girls' wrestling teammates and all
others who were so welcome in her home. In recent years Jim and Gert
moved to Oromocto to be a daily part of that circle of love and care.
We will all miss those big, beautiful blue eyes, the smile that warmed
every room she entered, and the laugh that made your heart happy. We
have lost you too soon, but we were so fortunate to have you in our lives.
The family sends thanks to the nurses and doctors at Oromocto Hospital,
and the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Cremation has taken place; interment
will take place in Cathy's hometown of Corner Brook at a later date.
Messages of condolence can be left at the Facebook group, In Memory of
Cathy (Catherine) Murphy-Saunders.

June 20th, 1933 - December 14th, 2008
Passed peacefully away at Carbonear General Hospital on Sunday,
December 14th, 2008, Jim Yates after 75 good years.
He will be sorely missed by his loving wife of 52 years; Marjorie (nee
Ackerman), his children; Bruce (Kerry), Myrna (Brad Moss), Carl (Linda),
Lori (Peter Upshall), Christine (Glenn MacLean), his precious grandchildren;
Stephanie Farrell and Faith Yates, Vance (Corinne), Ryan (Angie), Lori-Ann,

and Samuel Upshall, Connor, Liam and Aidan MacLean, and his treasured
great-grandchildren Abigail Moss and Isaac Moss as well as his dear brother
Clarence, and his dear sisters Georgina, Joyce, Gladys and Betty and
many nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his parents Nellie and
George Yates. He was a friend to many. Born in Howley, the youngest boy
of 14 children, he skated the ponds, snared rabbits and caught too many
trout to count until he found a cute school teacher (yes, it was Marge,
of course) from Cupids. After they settled in Deer Lake to raise a family,
he went to work for Bowaters Woods Dept. traveling the province befriending
all he came in contact with. He later took positions with Bowater Power,
Deer Lake and Bowaters in Corner Brook. Jim was very involved in his
church and his community. A gifted musician and singer, he could often
be seen playing the piano before the church service or singing in the
back row of the choir. He was a past master and third degree mason of
the Masonic Lodge Humber Chapter. He was an avid fly fisherman, always
planning his next trip on the river. He was a connoisseur of fine grub
(or any grub) - be it a boil-up in the woods or a 5-course buffet at
21 Middle Road. A debt of gratitude goes out to Dr. R. Farrell, Dr. Jayram
and the wonderful nurses and staff of Carbonear General Hospital for
your professionalism, dedication and the dignity you gave Jim and his
family. Your efforts will not be forgotten. Friends and family are invited
to share in the memories of Jim at Fillatre's Funeral Home in Deer Lake
on Tuesday, December 16th from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral
service will be held at St. Paul's United Church, Deer Lake on Wednesday,
