It is with great sadness that the family of the late Frances Jesso (nee Strickland) announce her passing at the J. I. O'Connell Centre on Friday, October 29th, 1999 at the age of 85 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her family; four daughters: Doreen Dennis, Isabel (Howard Parsons), Kay (Wilfred Parsons), Ruby (David Curtis), all residing in Benoit's cove. Four sons: Walter (Yvonne), Eric (Elizabeth), Benoit's Cove, Rene, Ontario, and James (Kimberly), Fort McMurray. Daughter-in-law: Sarah. Twenty-one grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Sisters: Mamie (Ronald Childs), and Lillian Park. Brother: George Robinson (Rosetta). Sisters-in-law: Jenny Strickland, Lillian Robinson and Vida Gough, as well as a very large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Ernest, March, 1993, daughter: Mary; sons: Albert, Michael, and wife Theresa. Great-grandson: Anthony Bennett. Brothers: Walter, Albert, William and John. Sisters: Ruby and Christina. Son-in-law: Ralph Dennis. The family received friends from Fillatre's Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street on Saturday from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Monday, November 1st, at 10:30 a.m. from Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Benoit's Cove, Fr. Simon Agbosa officiating. Interment to follow at the Church Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers graciously accepted or donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Alice Tipple announce her passing at the J. I. O'Connell Centre on Friday, October 29th, 1999 at the age of 86 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her seven children: Joan Marks, Corner Brook, Jean Johnson (Harold), Pasadena, Melvin (Jean), Corner Brook, Ruby Jennex (David), California, USA, Walter (Janet) Pasadena, Shirley Wall, Corner Brook, and Betty McHugh (Gary Cuff), Corner Brook. Twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Two sisters: Isabel French and Edith Skinner (Robert), Pasadena. One brother: Norman Parsons (Lorna), Scarborough, ON, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Raymond (1988), and two grandsons: Eric and Bruce Johnson. The family received friends from Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue on Saturday and Sunday from the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held Monday, November 1st at 2:00 p.m. from the Humber United Church, Clarence Street, Rev. Boyce Martin officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers graciously accepted or donations may be made to the fourth floor of the J. I. O'Connell Centre.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Peter J. Campbell announce his passing at the Notre Dame Bay Memorial Health Centre, Twillingate, on Saturday, October 30th, 1999 at the age of 87 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, his children: Melvin Campbell and wife Laverna of Mattis Point, Mary (Mrs. Lawrence King) of Mattis Point, Diane Campbell and Peter Campbell, Jr., both of Toronto, ON; twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; brothers: John "Freddie" Campbell of Stephenville Crossing, Jimmy and wife Betty, Leonard and wife Betty, Thomas and wife Jean, all residing in Corner Brook; sisters: Maggie Collins of Toronto, Emma Gene (Clayton Campbell) and Marion (Walt Lyver) of Corner Brook, and a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie Campbell (nee King). The family will be receiving friends from Fillatre's Funeral Home, Stephenville Crossing on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 3rd at 10:00 a.m. from the Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption, Stephenville Crossing, Monsignor White officiating. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Christopher Bragg announce his passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook, on November 1st, 1999 at the age of 76 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, his wife of 53 years, Esther Bragg (nee Currie); three sons: George (Eva), Calvin (Dorothy), Ivan (Irene); one daughter, Phyllis Ford, Robert Strickland (both names this way in paper), all of Port aux Basques; two brothers: George (Mary) Bragg, William (Mildred) Bragg of Port aux Basques; four sisters: Dallas (Elwood) Turner of Hanover, Massachusetts, Dorothy (Bernard), Shirley (George) Osmond, Marilyn (William) Bragg, all of Port aux Basques; ten grandchildren: Glen, Tracy, Trudy, Trina, Duane, Darren, Steven, Trevor, Melissa and Jason; five great grandchildren: Kyle, Joshua, Chelsea, Hayley, and Brandon, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Richard in 1971; mother, Maude (nee Dicks) Bragg in 1994; brothers: Claude and Emmanuel; sisters: Catherine, Juanita, and Adelaide. Family and friends were received at Fillatre's Funeral Home on Tuesday 7-8 p.m. (Family Only), 8-9 p.m., Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Thursday 10-12 noon (Family Only). Funeral Services took place Thursday, November 4th, 1999, at 2 p.m. from St. James Anglican Church, Port aux Basques, with Rev. Nelson Small, Rev. George Childs, and Eric Mullins officiating. Interment followed at Barachois Hill Anglican Cemetery. Passed peacefully away at Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville on Monday, November 1, 1999, Cindy Watts of Shoal Harbour, aged 33 years. Left with fond and loving memories are husband of eight years, Howard Ellsworth; one son, Lucas Ellsworth; her parents, George and Marion Watts of Rocky Harbour; father and mother-in-law, Rendell and Yula Ellsworth of Rocky Harbour; one brother, Frank and wife Diane of Whitby, Ont.; two nieces: Kassidy and Katelyn; grandparents: Clarke and Catherine Shears of Pickering, Ont., Elizabeth Watts of Rocky Harbour, also a large circle of other relatives and friends. It is with sadness and regret that the family of the late Mary Lorraine Murrin announce her passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Wednesday, November 3rd, 1999 at the age of 63 years. She will be sadly missed by her loving family; husband, William; sons: Roy (Mary Ann), Arthur (Freda), all of Fort Nelson, BC, Woodrow (Judith) and Barry, all of Lark Harbour; seven grandchildren: Phoebe, George, Bradley, Christopher, Snowdon, Sarah and Lily; special friends: Brian, Lorraine, Kelley and Jennifer Packwood, and also a large circle of relatives and friends. Visitation will take place at St. James Anglican Church in Lark Harbour on Thursday and Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Saturday 10-12 noon. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, November 6th at 2:00 p.m. from St. James Anglican Church in Lark Harbour. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. Passed away Tuesday, November 2, 1999 Brian Batstone at the age of 34 years. He leaves to mourn, his father, Joseph, and step-mother, Regina; two brothers: David (Susan) and Stephen (Tammy); three sisters: Beverly Allen (Colin), Lorraine McPhail (Jim) of Alberta, and Lori MacDonald (Darryl); his special son, Kirk; two nieces: Sharmane and Brittany; two nephews: Justin and Brandon; uncles: George Batstone (Margaret), Fred Batstone (Emily), Jim Batstone (Angela), Calvin Legge (Ellen), Derek Legge; aunts: Dorothy Hounsell, Kathleen Locke, Diane Barker (Bill), Blanche Connors (Fred), Linda Ricketts; grandparents, Joseph and Martha Legge, and numerous other relatives and friends. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Alice Leroy announce her passing at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Center in Stephenville Crossing on Thursday, November 4, 1999 at the age of 97 years. She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Mary Cole in Port au Port East and one brother, Jim Young in Three Rock Cove and four sisters: Clem (Angus) Marche in Port au Port, Cecilia Lainey in Stephenville, Laura Blanchard in Sydney, NS, Annie Tourout in Three Rock Cove and a large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Leroy. Friends may call at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Lourdes on Friday. Funeral services will take place on Saturday, November 6th at 10:30 a.m. from Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Lourdes with interment in the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Winterhouses. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Roseanna Cassell announce her passing on Thursday, November 4th, 1999 at the W.M.R. Hospital in her 91st year. She will be sadly missed by her loving daughter, Alma and son-in-law Harvey Ropson. Five grandsons: Francis (Bonnie), Derek (Kim), Jerry (Cindy), Leighton (Debbie), Carl (Tracey); two granddaughters: Florence (Stuart) and Judy (Keith). 15 great grandchildren: Bernie, Lindsay, Allison, Melissa, Jessica, Hillary, Sarah, Joey, Tara-Lee, Sheldon, Cory, Ryan, Valerie, Victoria, and Justin. Two great-great grandchildren: Nathan and Tamara all of Harbour Deep. Also a large circle of relatives and friends. Roseanna was a resident of Golden Crest Haven Seniors Home for the past five years. Visitation will take place at the Anglican Church in Harbour Deep on Sunday evening. Monday and Tuesday, where also funeral services will take place on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Woodman officiating. Interment to follow at the family plot. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parsons Funeral Home, Deer Lake.

Passed away on October 31, 1999, at the Carbonear General Hospital at the age of 85 years, Patrick Mullins Sr. Mr. Mullins was a World War II veteran and served with the Royal Navy. He leaves to mourn, his loving family, wife, Wilhemina (nee McLean) Mullins of Carbonear; sons: Marshall (Amelia) of Corner Brook, Patrick (Barb), Jeffrey (Carol-Anne), all of Carbonear; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren; brothers: Bill (Ethel) of Corner Brook, Joe (Mary) of Carbonear; sister, Ellen (Nellie) Hogan of Carbonear. A large circle of relatives and friends. Rested at Slade's Funeral Home, Carbonear. Funeral Mass was held on November 2 at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic, Carbonear, with interment at Bethany United Church Cemetery, Carbonear.

Three daughters: Vivian (Philip Payne) of Parsons Pond, Doreen Targett of Corner Brook, and Daisy (Jerome Murray) of Brampton, Ontario, 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, one brother Arthur (Beulah) of Glenburnie and one sister Ella Moores of Woody Point. Her sister-in-law Alice Simmonds of Corner Brook, also a large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Sidney on October 6th, 1999. Visitation will take place from the United Church in Shoal Brook today, Monday, where also funeral services will take place on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.. with Rev. Elizabeth Kozbial officiating. Passed peacefully away at the Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on Sunday, November 7th, 1999, Johanna (Josie) Pilgrim in her 90th year. Left to mourn, three brothers: Cyril and Joyce Genge, Matthew and Sophie Genge, and Albert Genge, all residing at Anchor Point; two sisters-in-law: Agnes Genge of Anchor Point and Cecilia Pilgrim of Stephenville. She also leaves to mourn a large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Leslie in 1970. The family will be receiving friends at the Anglican Church in Anchor Point on Monday and Tuesday from where the funeral service will take place on Wednesday, November 10, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Elder officiating. Interment to follow at the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to the Cancer Society. She will be sadly missed by her son, Raffy (Pam) Nolan in Hamilton and her daughter, Marnie (Terry) McCarthy in Toronto; two brothers: Raphael Nardini in Kippens, Augustine Nardini in Willowdale, Nova scotia; one sister, Carmella Nardini in St. John's; great-aunt Angie White in Port au Port and nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. Candow, Alexander James "Sandy"
- of Kentville and Sarasota, Florida, died Friday, November 12, 1999 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Mount Moriah, Newfoundland, he was the son of the late James and Annie (Hynes) Candow. He was a veteran of the Second World War serving overseas with a rank of Flight Lieutenant with the Royal Air Force. Upon returning from overseas, he founded 511 Humber Squadron Air Cadets in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. He was a prominent businessman in Corner Brook and moved to Kentville in 1974 and founded Glenngary Pines Par 3 Golf Course. He was a past vice-president of Ken-Wo Golf and Country Club. He was a 50-year member of Lomond Masonic Lodge, Corner Brook, Newfoundland. He was a former member of the Corner Brook Rotary Club; a former member and director of Blomidon Golf and Country Club, Corner Brook, Newfoundland; former member of the Kentville Gyro Club; and a former member of the Sarasota Lions Club. For the past several years, he resided six months of each year in Sarasota, Florida. He is survived by two sons: Glenn and wife Jocelyn, Lantz, Hants Co.; Gary and wife Tanya, Kentville; three sisters: Bertha and Phyllis, both of Vancouver Island; Dorothy, Ontario; four brothers: Gordon, Corner Brook; Lloyd, Newfoundland; Allan, Cape Ray, Newfoundland; David, Burlington, Ontario; three grandchildren: Darren, Mark and Andrea; very dear companion Grace Carlton. He was predeceased by his wife the former Rita Evelyn Alley; one brother Israel. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. The unique ceremony was performed by Rev. Lynette Pardy (the couples youngest daughter). The radiant bride was escorted down the aisle by Darrell Pardy (the couples youngest son). The bride & grooms attendants were Denise Manual & Anthony Pardy (the couples oldest daughter & son). Ushers were Gregory & Andrew Manual (the couples grandsons). Maria Regina Church was the scene of a very beautiful wedding on Saturday, October 23, 1999 when Tammy Reneé, daughter of Malcolm & Patricia Alexander exchanged vows before Rev. Gerard Patry. The bride looked radiant as she entered the church accompanied by her father. Maid of Honour was Roxanne Macneil. The bridesmaids were Vanessa Mercer, Jackie Doucette, Tracey Hawco, Sheryl Seaward and Many Hawco. Best man was Kirk Alexander. The groomsmen were Scott Alexander, Billy Hynes, Darren Seaward, Forrest Doucette and Trevor Alexander. Flowergirl was Alexandra Arruda and Ringbearer was Jessie Alexander. Vocalists were Jennifer and Mike Dawson. Taking part in the offertory procession were Annette Hynes, Gina Seaward, Clyde Doucette and Wayne Alexander. Readings were by Ashley Arruda, Sharon Seaward and Ilene Jesso. Following the ceremony, the reception and dance was held at the Santa Maria Club. The newlyweds honeymooned in Ottawa and would like to thank family and friends for helping make this day so special.

Ken Stright, cousin of the groom. The best woman was Maureen Boyd. Bride's attendants were Cindy Cunningham and Joanne Mills, Sisters of the bride. Best man was Joe Mclean. The groom's attendants were Paul Griffith and Bill Stright, cousin of the groom. Flowergirl was Sarah Cunningham, niece and godchild of the bride. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the Saraquay club. The couple honeymooned on a Caribbean cruise. Jennifer is the daughter of Jean and Archie Mills, Corner Brook. Les is the son of Glenn and the late Ivan Stright of Halifax.

DEATH

WHITE, Alphonsus
West Bay Center

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Alphonsus White announce his passing at his residence in West Bay Center on Saturday, November 27, 1999 at the age of 73 years. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Marina and three sons: Sandy (Ginnette) in Timmins, Ontario, Al (Adeline) and Pat, all in West Bay Center and two daughters: Tina Ryan in Trout River, Edie White in Brampton, Ontario and two brothers: James (Marion) in West Bay Center, Raymond (Elwidge) in Georgetown, Prince Edward Island and five sisters: Bernadette Dollard, Theresa McHugh, both in Stephenville, Jean White in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Pauline Mullins in Bellville, Illinois, Florence (Martin) Young, in Stephenville and ten grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Annie White. Friends may call at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Lourdes on Monday. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, November 30, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. from Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Lourdes with interment in the Roman Catholic Cemetery in West Bay. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Our Lady of Lourdes Church Building Fund would be greatly appreciated. Funeral arrangements are under the supervision of Russell's Funeral Home, 39 Queen Street in Stephenville.
