McCANN, Glenn Gerard
Born: December 17th, 1956
Passed on: November 18th, 2018

Our world just became a little less colourful as our precious Glenn passed on Sunday, November 18th. It is with great sorrow that the family of Glenn Gerard McCann announce his passing. Glenn leaves to honor, cherish, and celebrate his generous soul, his huge heart and often luminous and entertaining personality: his mother Teresa, his partner Joanne, devoted father to his four children Nathan, Kriste (Wayne), Jeremiah and Julie-Anna; his siblings Mary (Stephen), Ray (Marion), Arlene (Jim), Judy (Greg), Percy (Aicha), Ann (Theresa), Michael (Polly); and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Also left with treasured memories are his valued and loyal friends: Mike Hughes, Larkin Gaudon, Ray and Wayne Hann, Andy Traverse and the Nortrax family, Mikey and Rick Gaudon, Tedo March, Bobby Janes, Jerry and Glenn Benoit, Kevin Bourgeois, Myron Fitzgerald, Terry Harvey, Francis Bennett, Billy Gosbee, Jimmy Cochrane, Bernard and Sonia Trudeau and Charlie McCormack, to name but a few. Predeceased by his treasured father Peter McCann (Sr), brother Peter McCann (Jr) and his sister Phyllis. On October 30, 2018, Glenn received medical test results and was told that cancer, originating in his kidney, was moving rapidly through his body and that he should go home and take care of his affairs. The following day he was informed that he had "approximately two weeks" to live. With incredible courage, presence, fortitude, and love and knowing that every minute was precious - he personally called his mother, each one of his children and all his siblings - chatting to each one of them individually, breaking the news. With the steadfast support of his brother Michael, by his side, Glenn used every-last moment to do things that would seem impossible to most, but that would make this incredible loss less painful for all who loved and cared for him. Persevering tremendous pain and discomfort, Glenn generously gave time to each of the many valued friends and relatives who dropped by to talk with him one last time. Glenn remained kind and humble to the end, inviting friends and colleagues to drop by his garage to help themselves to a vast array of tools, treasures and accessories accumulated over a lifetime - his way of saying thank-you. Glenn was grateful for every moment of his life and didn't waste any of them. After completing two degrees at Memorial University, Glenn served as the Departmental Coordinator for the Heavy Equipment School at the College of North Atlantic for over a decade. He cared for his students, understood their concerns, and they appreciated his down to earth and practical approach to teaching the necessary skills needed for their completion. Next, he took the courageous leap of going full time into his own construction business in order to generate the additional funds necessary to see all of his children complete secondary education. A creative and loveable character to many, Glenn epitomized kindness and devoted many volunteer hours to numerous causes and individuals. Glenn had diverse skills and applied them at every opportunity in his family and often in service to others. Like his parents, Glenn worked very hard to ensure his children had options and opportunities to pursue their careers. Glenn embraced a strong commitment to the promotion and importance of education and supporting oneself. Another remarkable spirit has moved on and now we are left to feel his energy and his smile and try in some way to be comforted by the caring memories of this precious man. We treasure the legacy he has left for his children and for the rest of us - strength of character, outstanding courage, consistent kindness and unwavering concern for others. Glenn had a wonderous sense of humor, vivid personality and kind heart. A special thanks to all who loved our Glenn and shared in his life. Thank you to the Physicians who offered their compassion and professional support: Dennis Rashleigh, Dave Thomas, Stewart Rorke, Aiden Brazil, Sheila Lewis, Zack Atwood. A very special appreciation to Dr. Amy Pieroway, who, in spite of her busy practice in Corner Brook, demonstrated an incredible presence and ability to understand the preciousness of Glenn's last days, both in his home and in palliative care. In particular, doctors' Pieroway and Thomas, and palliative care nurse Natasha Washington touched Glenn's heart as the epitome of caring - translating compassion into action, letting Glenn know, beyond a doubt, that he was a priority for them. A special thank-you to Glenn's grade eleven teacher, Mary McCormack, for her valuable wisdom in assisting with service preparations. Glenn always enjoyed sharing humorous moments with Mary. Even though we will never again feel the physical touch of Glenn on earth, we will forever feel his presence as he lives on in our hearts and in our stories. Harold went through university on the Regular Officer Training Plan so many of his summer months were spent in training at military bases across Canada including basic training at CFB Borden. WINSOR, Wavey Phyllis (nee Robbins)
Born: April 15th, 1923
Passed on: November 16th, 2018
Wavey Phyllis Winsor (nee Robbins)
was born on April 15, 1923 in Springdale, Newfoundland. She was the fourth of seven children born to Thomas and Patience (Colbourne) Robbins. As a child, Wavey lived in many communities in Newfoundland such as Bishop's Falls, Corner Brook, Botwood, Deer Lake, Bay Roberts, Fortune, and others where her parents were stationed as Salvation Army officers. Wavey attended Memorial University to become a school teacher and returned to Deer Lake, teaching in a one room school at the age of seventeen. In August 1948, she married Byron Winsor, also the child of Salvation Army parents. Together, they raised three children, Paul, Ruth, and Glenda. Wavey was a wealth of information on family members and friends and had a compulsion to maintain contact through telephone calls, birthday cards, and entertaining in her home. She loved to make us laugh with her infectious sense of humour and practical jokes. Wavey was very active in The Salvation Army and enjoyed the fellowship of the ladies in the Home League, Bible studies, visiting the shut-ins, often taking them a bottle of her home-made jam. She was constantly knitting baby suits and sweaters for the annual Home League sale and in her 'spare time' she knit baby suits for any and every new addition to her extended family, and especially for her grandchildren and great-grandsons. For many years Wavey was a volunteer at the O'Connell Centre, and visited the Interfaith Home, Long Term Care, Western Memorial Hospital, and Mountain View Estates. She gained great satisfaction from feeding residents, baking, and making fudge and cookies for fund-raising as well as treats for the residents. Wavey also logged many hours recruiting blood-donors on behalf of the Red Cross. Due to failing health in 2013, Wavey and Byron left Corner Brook to reside in Kelowna, B.C. where Paul & Shirley had retired. In her last 5 years, Wavey took great joy in the weekly visits of her granddaughter and two of her great-grandsons. She could be seen using her walker as a hockey net while the young boys tried to score in between the ever-moving goal-posts! Wavey passed away Friday, November 16, 2018. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Byron, in 2017, and by all six of her siblings. She is survived by one sister-in-law, Jean Robbins of Corner Brook. She will be missed by her three children and their spouses: Paul (Shirley), Ruth (Neil), and Glenda (Don); four grandchildren, five great-grandsons, nieces and nephews scattered across Canada and the USA, and numerous friends. Corner Brook, NL

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Bernice Woodrow announce her peaceful passing on Friday, November 23, 2018 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit surrounded by her loving family in her 92nd year. Leaving to mourn with precious memories her three children: Father Terry Boland and Bruce Boland of Corner Brook, Lorraine Patey (Clarence) of Hampden Junction; her grandchildren: Shannon McHugh, Michelle McHugh (Jeff) of BC, Lisa Abstreiter (Dennis), Jennifer White (Charlie) of AB; and her seven precious great-grandchildren: Ashley and Jordan Nash, Megan and Brady Abstreiter, and Donald and Devon Patey. Also mourning her loss are her brothers: Milton Bursey (Marlene) of NS, Don Bursey (Myrt) of Corner Brook; her sisters: Joyce Earle and Glenda Johnson (Ray) of Corner Brook, Joan Mitchell of Springdale; her sister-in-law Louise Bursey; her brother-in-law Bill Drover; and a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Bernice was predeceased by her first husband Leo Boland (1961); her second husband Luke Woodrow (2000); her daughter Barbara Gilbert (2009); her grandson Deon Patey (2007); her granddaughter Terri McHugh (2016); her siblings: Mavis Bursey; Stella Mollon, Valda Young, Lorraine Drover, Wayne Bursey. During her life time mom made many friends and three in particular visited her often to chat and bring her gifts and food, Priscilla Boutcher, Camille Bruce and Eileen Companion. Our mom was a loving, caring person who lived her life to the fullest. Widowed at the age of 36, she was left to raise her four children and run a business with little or no experience, but she stepped up to the challenge and built a successful night club in Curling called the Poplar Club. Later in life, her and her second husband started a real estate business, which they ran successfully until he entered politics. Mom was a precious treasure, admired by many and loved by all. A well respected business woman, a loving mother, a devoted sister and a trusted friend. A true matriarch to her entire family. If you came to visit her, you were not leaving unless she gave you something to take with you. She was sassy, outspoken, generous, kind, and a true lady. We will miss her dearly. We want to say a big thanks to her caregivers, Trish Letto and Corrie Seward for the kindness, care and respect they showed our mom, and to the doctors and nurses of the Palliative Care Unit for treating mom with dignity and kindness that made her last hours peaceful. And to Dr. Whitten for the care and kindness he gave mom as well. Visitation for family and friends will take place at Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road on Sunday, November 25, 2018 from the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will take place at The Most Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Parish, 15 Mount Bernard Avenue on Monday, November 26, 2018 at 10 am with Father Edward Terry officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers are graciously accepted and/or memorial donations can be made to The Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation or The Western Memorial Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
