CLOUTER, Jeanne "Marie"
91. It is with gratitude for her life and sadness at her loss that we announce the passing of our wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother at Parkstone Enhanced Care, Halifax, on November 25. Marie was born in 1922 and grew up in Corner Brook, NL, a loving daughter and only child of Samuel and Annie (Russell) Hilliard. She helped manage her father's retail business before marrying WWII veteran, Charles Clouter in 1947 and raising a family of six children. On reentering the workforce, she spent many enjoyable years as a librarian at the Corner Brook Regional Library (Sir Richard Squires Building). Following retirement in 1984, she moved to Halifax to be near her two daughters. For the next twenty-five years, Mom lived her philosophy of 'lifelong learning' by travelling the world attending over fifty Elderhostel programs (www.roadscholar.org), from Bermuda, to England, to Vancouver and Florida. She thoroughly enjoyed each new adventure and the many people she met from around the world and then she enjoyed reliving her adventures with stories over a cup of tea or at the dinner table. For many years she was actively involved in her new community as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, the VON Friendly Visitor program, Camp Hill Hospital, the Alzheimer's Society and Spencer House, where she particularly enjoyed participating in the "grandfriends" program with elementary students from nearby St. Mary's School. She was predeceased by beloved sons: Larry (Papua New Guinea, 1986), Bruce (Halifax, 2009), former husband, Charles Clouter (St. John's, 1990), and feline best friend, Dexter (September). Left to mourn her passing are daughters, Margaret-Anne (Garth Bennett) and Pamela (Gerry Whelan), Halifax; sons, Fred, Vancouver and Brian (Elizabeth Chalker), Victoria, BC. Her loving family also includes six grandchildren - Stephanie Bennett Wells, Raechel Bennett Payne, Ann Whelan Solomon, Sean Whelan, Aaron and Devin Clouter; and, in the past sixteen years, seven beautiful great-grandchildren - Morrgan, Christian and Izaac Payne, Halifax; Derik and Martin Wells, Squamish, BC and Aidan and Ella Solomon, Victoria, BC. Mom lived an active, independent life until her move to Parkstone Enhanced Care nearly three years ago. The family would like to thank the staff and her friends on Garden Court for creating a community of companionship and care, and for the extra support and guidance provided to her daughters over the past two months. Cremation has taken place under the care of J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax (455-0531). A family service and interment will be held in the family plot at Fairview Cemetery, Halifax. Donations in mother's memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetic Association or a charity of your choice. To leave an online condolence, please visit: www.jasnowfuneralhome.com

Born: May 24th, 1938
Passed on: November 2nd, 2013

It is with deep sadness that Jean's children and their spouses, Frank (Jill), Cynthia (Jim), Gail, Lynn (Curtis) and Melanie, grieve her passing on Saturday, November 2, 2013. Jean was born on May 24, 1938 in Sally's Cove, Newfoundland to Dulcie and Thomas Endicott. She grew up with her sisters and brothers: Bill, Coyley, Eileen, Roxie, Laudric and Wanda. Jean has now joined her parents and brother Laudric - a source of great comfort to us. Jean's siblings will deeply miss their beloved sister. Jean had an adventurous spirit that led her and her first husband, Cecil Corbett, to relocate to Calgary, Alberta in 1968. Although Calgary offered her children better opportunities, Newfoundland remained her true home. Jean had a zest for life. She was an energetic woman with a strong work ethic, dedicating many years of excellent service in her positions at the Bay, Alberta Government Telephones, CIBC and National Car Rental. Jean was first and foremost a dedicated, loving mother. Everything she did, she did with her children in mind. Jean created a lively and beautiful home where she baked, cooked and knit for those she loved. Her door was always open, and her dinner table was the center of many years of love and laughter for her family and friends. She was quick to laugh and her smile was endearing to all those around her. Quiet by nature, Jean's playful spirit was nonetheless ever present. Jean's essence is love. She was vibrant, generous and gracious in all things. She cherished her years of motherhood and gave her children and grandchildren the gifts of unconditional love and total acceptance. Along with her children, Jean's grandchildren, Vanessa, Stephanie, and Kaitlyn; Sheena and Cameron; Kathryn; and Gabrielle will miss her immense love. Also left to grieve Jean include her great-granddaughter, Jadyn; her step-grandchildren, Jordan, Ashley, and Danielle; and her second husband, Wilfred Tremblay. Despite the immense challenges that fronto-temporal dementia brought to Jean's life in her last years, she navigated these with her usual grace and poise. Jean continued to touch people in her quiet way in spite of the limitations that the dementia imposed upon her. As painful as it has been, Mom's journey with dementia has shown us our humanity - within ourselves, in friends, in strangers, and in the wonderful caregivers at Wentworth Manor who so generously gave their love and compassion to her and to us. Jean's bright light will continue to shine as we live her legacy of kindness, compassion, acceptance, and love. We will miss you Mom. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to www.jeanvictoriafund.ca to support the research into frontotemporal dementia by Dr. Tiffany Chow at the University of Toronto, Rotman Research Institute. We would be honoured if you joined us in a Celebration of Jean's Life and Legacy on Friday, November 8 at 2:00 p.m., Bristol Room at Wentworth Manor, 5717 - 14th Avenue N.W., Calgary.
