Front page
WHITE
Ted and Margaret White
are celebrating 70 years of marriage today. They were married at St. Stephen's Church with the Late Rev. Patrick Adams officiating. In addition to the anniversary, Mr. White is celebrating his 92 birthday today.
The couple had 11 children, all of them living in Cold Brook. The six girls include: Evelyn (Roddie) Russell, Rita (Cornelius) Blanchard, Genevieve (Mark) Blanchard, Mary (Edward) March, Patsy (Jerry MacNeil) Downey and Joan (Pius) Tobin. The five boys incllude: Henry (Selena), Frank (Vivian), Colin (Lillian), Ralph (Josephine) and Dennis (Eleanor). In additiion to the immediate children, the Whites have 43 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Both Ted and Margaret, who was a White before she was married, are originally from Stephenville and moved to Cold Brook when the Ernest Harmon Air Force Base was started and residents in that area had to move when their property was expropriated.
Ted worked in the woods as a lumberjack and sawmiller throughout the years, while his wife was a homemaker and did everything from cooking and cleaning to milking the cows and feeding the hens and pigs. At the age of 88, she is limited to doing her houseowrk now. The couple still keep a few hens because, as Mr. White says, "there's nothing like fresh eggs for breakfast in the morning." They both feel fortunate to have their health and to have all their children living nearby in the community where they all grew up. The event was celebrated with family and friends at the Seniors Club on Queen Street in Stephenville Friday evening.
(A nice photo accompanies the article and the caption below it is "Ted and Margaret White of Cold Brook are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary.")
