It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gloria Alexander announce her passing at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at the age of 70 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her partner Derek Higgins, son Patrick (Crystal) in Alberta, daughter Lorelei (Sean) Shannon in Alberta, Brother Robert Alexander in Nova Scotia, 5 grandchildren: Tyler Dowe (Caitlin) Victoria BC, Devyn Dowe (Lesley) Red Deer Alberta, Kelsie Alexander, Justin Alexander, Ryan Alexander all in Moncton NB, 1 great- granddaughter Raelynn Dowe in Victoria BC, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Henry and Sarah Alexander, sister; June White and brother; Sonny Alexander. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Albert Attwood announce his passing on Sunday, October 30th, 2016 at the DVA Unit at the Corner Brook Long Term Care Home at the age of 92 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, his son Edward (Glenys) Attwood, daughters Judy Hurley (Tony) and Loretta Lee (Gerard) all residing in Corner Brook; seven grandchildren: Richard Attwood (Krista), Robert Attwood (Wendy), Andre Hurley (Jaime), Kristy Lee (Peter), Daniel Lee (Nancy) and Jenna Lee; nine great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Evelyn Miles (Cecil) and Frances Beck; brother-in-law Robert Beck; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his wife Ruby (nee Beck) 1997; parents Edward and Priscilla Attwood, sisters Blanche Knee, Ada Rendell and Maggie Pinsent and brother George Attwood. It is with heavy hearts that the families of the late Robert (Bob) Norman Barnes announce his passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, in Corner Brook, NL, on Monday, October 10th, 2016, at the age of 79 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Myrtle nee White of 53 years marriage, his children Roderick, Nancy, Wade (Lori lee), Keith (Tara Lynn), Bonnie Lou (Eric), his grandchildren Justin (Kirston), Jenna, Michael, Kaylin, Shane (Tiffany), Kelly, Jaylyn, Flicia, Jagger, Jeffrey, Laura, Lance, and Patrick, his great-grandchildren Lucas, Chace, Mea, and Desmond, his sister Cindy Brake. Robert was predeceased by his parents Cora and Ford Barnes, his grandson Kent, sisters Alice (Alex), Daisy (Enzell), Marjorie (Herb) Barnes, Mary (Maxwell), Frances (Powless), his mother and father-in-law Dulcie and Fred White, also leaving to mourn a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives, extended family and friends. BATEMAN, Penney Anne (Barrett)

At Heart of Hastings Hospice, Madoc, Ontario, on Friday, October 14, 2016. Penney Bateman, of Frankford, Ontario, in her 69th year. Daughter of the late Melvin and Lizzie Hynes. Beloved wife of Jim Bateman. Dear sister of Rudy Hynes. Penney had a busy life, in that she left home to become a nurse at the age of 16. Once graduated, she continued to improve her nursing skills by completing university courses as a Registered Nurse (RN) while working at Sick Kids Hospital, Toronto, Ontario and also a Public Health Nurse. She joined the Canadian Air Forces and became an Aeromedical Evacuation Nurse too. In later years, Penney left the Forces and became the resident Public Health Nurse for Hastings County which brought her into the prenatal world and consequent baby follow-ups. After retiring, she immediately volunteered to assist farmer friends selling vegetables at the Belleville Farmer's Market. The swimming pool was her stress reliever and she taught most of the local kids to swim. Her desire to travel was very evident and a month before passing she did a very enjoyable two-week tour of Ireland. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at the McConnell Funeral Home, Madoc on Saturday, October 22, 2016 from 2-3 p.m. with a celebration of Penney's life taking place at 3 p.m. Donations to the Heart of Hastings Hospice, Madoc would be appreciated. It is with broken hearts that the family of the late Benjamin R. Bellows announce his passing, comforted by his wife and children at home, after a 13 year battle with quadriplegia, as well as his final fight with leukemia. He leaves to mourn with heavy hearts, his wife Helen of 37 years; children Tina (John) Piszar, only son Cory Keough (Rosa Pirillo), Tanya (Harold) Clarke, and Chrystal (Wayne) Adlington; precious grandchildren Krystina, Alexander, Katelyn, James, Christopher, Melissa, Stephen, Amber, Rebecca and Alexis; brothers and sisters Ken (Martha), Don (Geraldine), Linda (late Cecil), Harley (Carol), Jean (Alfred), Harvey, Dave (Paulette), Wayne (Olga), Dexter (Mary), Luella (Ignatius), Hazel (Ken), Debbie, Glen, Sharon (David), Byron (Hilda) and Raymond (Donna), as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his children Curtis (Mae), Irene, Bernard (Daisy), Graham (Lorraine), 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren, his sisters Margaret (Gordon), Anna (Walter) and Jessie, his brothers Lloyd (Louise), Gerald (Joyce), Eric (Dulcie) and Raymond, daughter-in-law Colleen Bryan, and special friend Sylvia Blanchard. It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Joanne Brake, on Monday, October 31, 2016 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook at the age of 61 years. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories, husband Wayne, son A.J, sisters: Michelle, Trudy, Rosalind (Brent); brothers: Sean, Wayne, Brian, Jimmy (Sandra), Tony, Paul; aunts Marie and Theresa Byrne; uncle Joe Byrne; as well as a large number of nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law from the Brake family and many friends. The wonderful life of Glenys Marcella Butler (nee Tucker) has come to an end and her warm, comforting spirit has passed on to the memories of her family and friends. Left to carry on are her loving husband Leslie, their devoted daughter Kirsten, and Kirsten's husband Joshua Fleming, their compassionate son James, and his partner Viviane Fairbank. Also left are Glenys' dear siblings and their spouses Ralph Tucker (Gwen), Wilfred Tucker (Nancy), Ethel Peddle (Lindsay), Clyde Tucker (Sharon), their children, grandchildren, and the first of the great-grandchildren. Missing her keenly are Glenys' sisters-in-law, their spouses and special friends including Frances Burke (Jim), Barbara Butler (Boyd Martin), Jacqueline Wheeler (Robert), Narcissus Walsh, their children and grandchildren. A large circle of friends from all stages of Glenys' life feel the absence of her welcoming smile, sense of humor, and gentle spirit. Passed peacefully away at The Salvation Army Glenbrook Lodge on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, Myra Beatrice Cooper (nee Ludlow) in her 96th year. Predeceased by her husband Lloyd (January, 2006); daughter Verna Hounsell (October, 2008); and son-in-law Frank Noble (January, 2008). Leaving to mourn, daughters: Marjorie Noble (Corner Brook) and Joy (Bill) Barron (St. John's); son Keith (Ruth) (Ontario); son-in-law Sol Hounsell (Pound Cove); 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Cooper and Kay Cooper; as well as extended family and friends - including her many friends at Glenbrook. Myra was the last member of the original Pentecostal Tabernacle Corner Brook West. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Thomas Augustus "Gus" Cossitt announce his peaceful passing at his home on October 22, 2016 at the age of 89 years. Leaving to mourn his "one and only" Dorothy (nee Kelly) Cossitt, his wife of 59 years; his children: Bill (Mary), Gus (Debra), Sheilagh (Doug) Holloway and Kelly (Jonathan) Tsang; his precious grandchildren: Kimberly, Stephen, Robyn, Joshua, Zachary, Noah and Ella; his sisters: Mary and Terese, Catherine (George) Yates of Ontario; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Gus was predeceased by his parents William and Kathleen (nee Kennedy) Cossitt. Gus was a dedicated member and past president of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 13. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree. Gus also dedicated 25 years as an officer with the RCSCC Curling 184 Sea Cadets. Gus was known for his good nature and keen sense of humour. He made a lasting impression on all who knew him. He had countless stories and could entertain people tirelessly about old Corner Brook and his days as a member of the Merchant Navy. Passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness, Doreen Dolomount at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook on Friday, October 28, 2016 at the age of 90 years. Doreen was a very vibrant, active lady who enjoyed life to the fullest. She celebrated her 90th birthday on Saturday and danced with many family and friends. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: Bradley, Tena, Mark (Madonna) and Shane (Gabrielle); grandchildren: Matthew (Becky), Gregory (Ashley), Shannon (Sean), Dakota, Shayne, Chase (Cara), Ăˆlodie and Eva; great-grandchildren: Brooklyn, Ryder and Kaiden; brothers: Jerry, Gene, Wayne and Tone; sister Judy. We the family of Molly Gallant announce her passing on October 26, 2016 at the age of 97 at The Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre in Stephenville Crossing. She will be sadly missed by her eight children, Jim (Liz) Gallant, Marcheta Gallant, George Gallant, Carolyn Brake, Carol Ann (Eugene) Brennan, Mary (Dave) Buckle, Stephen (Vicki) Gallant, and Elizabeth (Kevin) Reid and daughter-in-law Anne Gallant; grandchildren, Timothy and Jacqueline, Johanne, Bryan and Norman, Sarah and Rebecca, Genice, Dana, Stephen and Stephanie, and Kenneth and Stephanie Lynn; great-grandchildren, Fintan and Emily, Samuel, Jaxon-Rae and Lexi Anne, Nathan and Ryan, Peyton, Jessica, Jaxon and Blake; and her only surviving sibling, Harry McIsaac. Molly was pre-deceased by her beloved husband, Stephen Gallant; son, Fintan Gallant; son-in-law, Urban Brake; parents James and Maude McIsaac; and siblings Sadie Odgen, Earl McIsaac, and Stanley McIsaac. She will be missed by extended family and by many friends as a well-known member of the Stephenville community. At Molly's wishes, cremation has taken place. As a devoted and loving husband, father and "poppy Jim" the family of the late James (Jim) Hann announce his peaceful passing on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the age of 77 years. Jim fought a courageous fight against cancer since 2007 and was surrounded by those whom he loved so dear in an intimate gathering at his residence in Summerside as his fight came to a close. He will be forever loved and missed by his wife of 52 years, Hazel; his children who he was so proud of, sons Jimmy (Sue) and Stephen (Deanne); daughter Michele (Kevin); his pride and joy, his 5 grandchildren: David, Phoebe, Nathan, Dave, and Erica and 3 beautiful great grandchildren: Abby, Gavin, and the newest addition Hannah; sisters: Maxine, Joan (George), Marie, Fern (Danny), Marcie (Tex), and Eileen (Lawrence); brothers Ormsby and Victor (Nancy); sisters-in-law Eliza and Nora; brothers-in-law Stuart (Violet) and David (Nellie); as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Robert "Bob" David Oake announce his passing at Western Memorial Hospital on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the age of 82 years. Robert was born on January 2, 1934 in Corner Brook to David and Mary Oake. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 60 years, Eileen (nee Spencer). Robert spent many years traveling the province as a salesman for Morse's Tea Company before he and his wife Eileen started and ran a successful business "Broadway Textile" for 31 years. They enjoyed life to the fullest, having a cabin in Bonne Bay Pond and years travelling together to Florida and other vacation destinations. Robert enjoyed spending time with his family and many close friends over the years. He leaves to mourn with many happy memories, his family: Fred and Blanch Spencer, Victoria Spencer, Margaret and Donald Alyward, Marie and Ray Cole, Joan Taylor and Brian Peterson, Brian and Mary Spencer; nieces: Cindy (Frank Hynes) and Judy (Craig Snelgrove) as well as his other nieces and nephews; cousins: Vic and Myrna Bartlett; friends: Velma Wheeler (David), Audrey, Bob, Mary, Doris Bartlett, Tom and Ruby Walsh, Ron and Marie Denny and Beth and Joe Specker. It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend, Sarah Margaret Pike. With her family by her side, Sarah passed away at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital's Palliative Care Unit on October 22, 2016, at the age of 73. Predeceased by her parents Lucy and Raymond Pike. Sarah will be greatly missed by her Partner Bill Pilgrim, three sons Raymond Laite in Calgary Alberta, Robert Laite in Stephenville, David (Donna) Laite in Trenton Ontario, her daughter Heather (Scott) Laite Bennett in Kippens, her five grandchildren Sarah Bennett, Matthew Bennett, Logan Laite, Kallista Laite and Isaac Laite. Also leaving to mourn are her three brothers Raymond (Eleanor) Pike, Harold (Margaret) Pike, Abe (Pam) Pike, her eight sisters Mabel (Cornelius) Harnett, Grace Crane, Bess (Edward) King, Meta (Brendan) Corrigan, Evelyn (Elmo) Pike, Joyce (Rueben) Green, June Pike, Sharon Pike and a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and support from their neighbors, extended family and friends. A special thank you to the home caregivers from Compassion Care, and nurses from Community Health, who cared for Sarah over the past few years. It was because of your unconditional care and attention that she was able to remain in her home the last few years of her life. A special thanks as well to all the nursing and support staff at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital who were so attentive to mom and the family over her last few months of life. Words cannot express the gratitude we feel. Visitation will take place on Tuesday October 25th from 2-4 and 7-9 at Russell's Funeral Home in Stephenville from where the funeral will take place on Wednesday October 26th at 10:30 a.m. with interment in the Hillside Interfaith Cemetery on the Hansen Highway. Marion was predeceased by her parents, Leonard and Mabel, her in-laws, Hayward and Frances, her brothers, Bill, Walter, Eric, and Stan, her sister, Shirley, great grandson Dylan and recently her son-in-law, Wayne Kean. Marion and her husband John were members of a number of Senior Dance Groups as well as the Legion. She enjoyed her music and all of the many friends she met along the way. After a long and wonderful life, Ascenzio Rassenti of Montreal passed away peacefully at the age of 92. Although he had no roots in Newfoundland, his daughter Rita Rassenti Payne has been residing in Pasadena for 30 years. He is remembered by Vincenza, his beautiful wife of 68 years, and also by their 6 children, 16 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. He was highly regarded by many, was a great husband, and a terrific Dad.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Della Wells announce her passing on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 74 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her daughter Cathy (Todd) Murrin; her precious grandchildren: Alex Murrin, Jason Thornsen, Joanne (Chris) Dixon and Lori Wells (Ken); special friend Karen Robertson; great-grandchildren: Charlize and Breanna; brother Ralph Osmond (Roxanne); sister Shirley Walsh (Bernard; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her loving husband Nick, son Eddie, daughter Karen, parents John and Susan Carter, sisters Nora, Queen, Marg and May, brothers Ray, William, Jim, Jack and Martin, parents-in-law William and Pearl Wells, sisters-in-law Alice and Vonnie, brother-in-law Edward. A special thank you to the staff of Palliative Care and her angels in the Dialysis Unit. Friends may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark's Avenue on Monday 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 2 at 11 a.m. from Humber United Church, Clarence Street with Rev. WIGHT, Claude Eli Francis

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Claude Wight announce his passing on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at the Health Science Centre in St. John's at the age of 79 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Betty; children: Brenda (Randy), Brian (Rose), Claudette (Wayne), Pamela (Rick), Shawn (Daniella), Nola (Dave) and Randy (Cate); 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Harvey and Marigold Wight. Claude enjoyed hunting, fishing, and living his way. Family and friends were a very important part of his life. He will be forever missed by all who loved him. Visitation will take place from the Salvation Army Citadel in Pasadena on Thursday, October 13th at 7-9 PM from where Funeral Service will take place on Friday, October 14th at 2 PM with Captains Tim and Laura Jenkins officiating. It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Paul Conway Young, on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 89. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories are his six children: Brian (Tellie) Ottawa, ON; Pauline (Chris) Hayes, Howley; Catherine (Rob Myrden) Corner Brook; John (Mayolene), Mississauga, ON; Maureen (Noel) Holden, Fort McMurray, AB; Terry (Michelle), Corner Brook; daughter-in-law Rosalind Young; 13 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; sister Kit (Eldon Hunt), BC; brothers-in-law: Milton Bursey (Marlene), Don Bursey (Myrtle), Bill Drover; sisters-in-law Bernice Woodrow, Louise Bursey, Joyce Earle, Joan Mitchell, Glenda Johnson (Ray), as well as many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends at Bayshore Estates. He was predeceased by his wife Valda Young, July 17, 2013; son Bill, 1994; parents William and Mona Young; four brothers: Billy, Richard, David and John. Friends may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street Thursday, October 13, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, October 14, 2016 at 10:30 am from Sacred Heart Church, Curling Street with Father Don Leonard and Father Terry Boland officiating, followed by cremation at Humber Valley Crematorium. As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted or memorial donations may be made to a charity of ones choice.
