It is with great sadness that the family of Mary Jane Abbott announce her passing on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook at the age of 80. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories, her husband Oscar Abbott; children: Gary McCarthy (Audrey), Elizabeth Hayden (Ron), Terry McCarthy (Rhonda), Molly McCarthy - Senebald (Stretch), Trudy McCarthy (Bob), Rosalie MacNeil (Keith), Margurita Wood (Jim), Janie Munroe (Bob), Patricia Ferguson (Barry), Georgina St. George (Gerry), James McCarthy; step children: Glen Abbott (Loretta), Janice Marshall (Chris), Chris Abbott (Marla), Curt Abbott (Ellen), Joanne Abbott (Byron), Julie Sheppard (Dave), Jeanne Colbourne (Steve), Suzanne Abbott; brothers: Oscar, Art (Dawn), Gerald (Sharlene), Levi (Val), Gordon, Albert (Helen); sisters: Kate, Betty (Eric), Elsie (Wayne), Trifena (Dave); 25 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and many friends. The funeral mass will take place Saturday, October 5th at 2:30 p.m. from Fillatre's Funeral Home Chapel, 4 St. Marks Avenue Father Terry Boland officiating. ABBOTT, Orville Glen
Born: July 7th, 1949

It is with great sadness that the family of Orville Glen Abbott announce that after a courageous battle, Glen succumbed to pancreatic cancer at home surrounded by his family on October 7, 2013 at the age of 64. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories, his wife of 45 years Loretta Abbott; children: Rick (Helen), Kenzie (David); grandchildren: Georgi, Ruairidh, Zander, Nathan and Joelle; father Oscar Abbott; brothers: Chris (Marla) Abbott and Curt (Ellen) Abbott; sisters: Janice (Chris) Marshall, Julie (Dave) Sheppard, Jeanne (Steve) Colbourne, Joanne Abbott (Byron) and Suzanne Abbott, and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family. Glen is predeceased by his mother Joyce Loretta Tobin, stepmother Mary Jane (Jen) Abbott and stepfather Joseph Tobin. Glen was a loving father, husband, son, brother, grandfather and friend to all. Glen grew up in Corner Brook, NL, the eldest of eight children. Glen loved flying which led to his enrolment in the Canadian Air Force at the age of 17 (January 1967) where he remained for 42 years. He retired in July, 2009 with the rank of Captain. After his retirement he moved back to Ottawa to be with his son and grandchildren. Glen lived for his grandchildren and loved them dearly. He was a lovely, kind, warm and funny man: welcoming, patient and a pleasure to be around. He was a real support for the family, but in an understated and not at all overbearing way. Glen will always be remembered for his smile and the way he put people at ease. His positive outlook on life made everyone around him a little brighter. He is loved and he will be missed.

ANSTEY, Helen Maria (Vincent)

Heaven Has Another Angel
With great sorrow and regret, we announce the passing of Helen Maria (Vincent) Anstey, on Wednesday, October 9, 2013, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving and devoted family. Mom was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a good friend to all who knew her. She was well known for her bread, cinnamon buns (yum-yum) and lemon sponge cake. Helen was predeceased by her soulmate, her husband Cyril; her grandparents: Joseph & Ellen (Alexander) Vincent, parents: Francis & Mary (Walsh) Vincent, brothers: Ron and Gerald Vincent, sister, Mary Goodyear and niece, Karen Henderson. Helen is -survived by her children: Gary, Darren and Rosellena Anstey, Ken (Linda) Anstey, Gerry (Sherry) Anstey, Francis (Denise) Anstey, Shirley (Mike) Jesso and Joy (Dave) Webster; her beloved grandchildren: Philip, Patrick, Jeremy and Zachary Anstey, Michael and Sarah Jesso and Tyler Webster; her siblings: Cathy (Larry) Barry, Shirley (Albert) O'Brien, Francis (Lorraine) Vincent, Tom (Sherry) Vincent, Art (Violet) Vincent and Bernard (Jean) Vincent; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, their -families and friends. Friends may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark's Avenue, on Friday from 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 12 at 10:30 a.m. from Fillatre's Funeral Chapel, St. Mark's Avenue, with Father Ambrose Hynes officiating. Thank you to all the nurses, doctors and caregivers at the Western Memorial Palliative Care Unit who took such good care of our mom. Thanks to all who visited. BARRY, Kevin
Passed on: October 18th, 2013

Died peacefully at the age of ninety-two in St. John's on October 18, 2013, surrounded by his family. Kevin was born and grew up in Curling, Newfoundland. After attending St. Francis Xavier University and the Dalhousie Law School, he was called to the bar and returned to practice law in Corner Brook. In time, he served as the Mayor of Curling, as Chair of the Labour Relations Board, and as a bencher with the Law Society. He was appointed to the Newfoundland District Court in Gander in 1976 and then to the Supreme Court (Trial Division), where he served until his retirement in 1996. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of sixty-one years, Kathleen (née Downey), and their six daughters, Estelle (Paul Voynovich), Clare (John Collins), Ann Marie, Mary, Elizabeth (Derrick Butler), and Jane (Steve Moore). He was predeceased by six siblings, Jack, Edward, Gus, Emma, Mary, and Edward; he leaves two, Isabella and David. He also leaves many nieces and nephews, a host of relatives and friends, and thirteen grandchildren: Michael, Sam, and Alex Collins; Marianne, Nicolas, and Daniel Alacoque; Barry and Blaise Peters and Anna Barry; Mark and Gregory Butler; and David and Allison Moore. Visitation will be at Caul's Funeral Home on Sunday, October 20 at 5:00-8:00 pm and on Monday, October 21 at 2:00-4:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, October 22 at 9:30 am at St. Pius X Parish. The family thanks Dr. Roger Butler, Community Health Services, and the Palliative Care Team of the Miller Centre for their care and attention. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Dr. H. BASHA, Diane (Porter)

It is with tremendous sadness that the family of the late Diane Basha announce her peaceful passing in the Intensive Care Unit at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Tuesday, October 29th, 2013 at the age of 61. She was a beautiful sweet and kind angel who will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 35 years Tony; son Anthony and her daughter Jodi; as well leaving to mourn her mother Nonie Porter; siblings: Bill (Shirl), Don (Bern), Paul, Terry (Sharon), Tom (Karen), Pauline Rose (Guy), Darlene Thornton (Howie), Jerry (Kelly), Michael; her many nieces, nephews, friends and her cherished cats whom she had a great love for. Diane was predeceased by her father Gordon Porter, October 26, 1983, niece & godchild Paula Rose May 25, 1997. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 2nd at 2:00 p.m. from Sacred Heart Church, Curling Street, Father Don Leonard officiating, followed by the interment at Mt. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Sylvia Beck announce her passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the age of 74 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband Robert; children: Susan (Jamie Payne) and Glenn (Kim Lapierre); grandchildren: Mandy, Shane (Claire), Christopher; daughter-in-law Carol Thorne-Beck; and grandson Joshua; great-grandchild Mckenzie; sisters Vera Earle, Hilda Knee and Bride (Frank Janes); brother Ralph Read (Shirley); sister and brother-in-law Evelyn and Cec Miles; sister-in-law Francis Beck; special friend Elsie Moores Smith and son Todd; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She leaves to mourn: her daughter, Paulette (Mike) Pattersons of Trail, BC; her son, Douglas (Brenda) Bridger of Deer Lake; grandsons: Ian Bridger and fiancée Dawn Benteau of Mount Pearl, and Daniel Bridger of Fort McMurray, Alberta; sister, Nancy McDonald of North Pond Manor, Torbay. Also a large circle of other family members, relatives and friends. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories: brother William (Doris) of British Columbia, sisters: Pearl (Harvey) Perry, Rita (Bill) Hynes, Gladys (Fred) LaSaga, all of Corner Brook, Shirley Bugden and Mildred (Colin) Noseworthy of Ontario. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Maria Butt (nee Rowe) announces her passing at the Corner Brook Long Term Care Home on Friday, October 4, 2013 at the age of 93 years. She will be sadly missed by her husband of over 70 years Ronald Butt of Heatherton, NL, her daughter Sharon (Ian) Bell of Pasadena, NL and granddaughter Catherine Bell of Halifax, NS. She is survived by her sisters: Bessie Bennett of St. John's, NL, Stella Rowe of Chatham, ON, Jessie (Arthur) Lachovitch of Sarnia, ON, and her brother Hubert (Margaret) Rowe of Heatherton, NL and a large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Charles and Jane Rowe of Green's Harbour, NL and sister Cassie Wiggins of Sarnia, ON. The family would like to express their thanks to the staff of the Corner Brook Long Care Centre, 3 South for their care and support. Passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife Mairi, with his sons Adam (Jennifer) and Christopher and loving sister Audrey (Gary) at his bedside on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2013 at the age of 60 years. Leaving to celebrate his life are his mother, Bessie Crocker, brothers: Roddie (Dawn), John (Kathy), Glenn (Sherri); sister, Angela (Morris), mother-in-law Mary Hann; brothers-in-law: Don and Alan Hann; sisters-in-law Maureen Bennett and Moira Moore (Mike), as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was predeceased by his father, Ellis Crocker and father-in-law Bill Hann. Cremation has taken place from Humber Valley Crematorium. It is with great sadness the family of Henry Charles Dalley announce his passing at Toronto General Hospital on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at the age of 62 years. Left to celebrate his life and love are his loving wife Michelle (McDonald), Mississauga, ON; his beloved daughter Michelle (Michael), Wasaga Beach, ON; son Reggie Martin; brother Roy (Margaret), Bonne Bay Pond, NL; sister Loretta (Malcolm), Corner Brook; sister-in-law Angela Kirby, Oshawa, ON; mother-in-law Ann McDonald, Botwood; the McDonald family: John (Roxanne), Moe (Darlene), Sheldon (Samantha), Walter (Loretta), Terry, Mary (Bill), Theresa (Terez), Maureen (Brian), Tracey (Rick), all residing in Ontario, Madeline (Mike), Botwood, NL, Kelly, Kirk (Lynette), Bishop Falls, NL. He will be sadly missed by a large circle of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. Predeceased by parents Frank and Ethel Dalley, brother Franklin and father-in-law Maurice McDonald. He lived, he laughed and loved us all.

It is with broken hearts the family of Margaret Mary Flynn of West Bay announces her passing on October 3, 2013 at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer and Alzheimer's with her family at her side. The family of the late Philip Greenacre are saddened to announce his passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on October 10, 2013 at the age of 88. Predeceased by his parents, Edwin and Alice Greenacre and his sister, Audrey Pool. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Helly, daughter Pamela (Robert Meaney), grandson Rowan, family in England (brother-in-law Lionel Pool, nephew Kenric, niece Adrianne and their families) as well as a circle of friends. Philip graduated from the University of the West of England's School of Architecture, Bristol. He lived and worked in Montreal, where he met Helly. They married in 1960 and relocated to Corner Brook in 1966 where he started his own architectural practice. His work included the design of All Hallows Church and several office buildings in Corner Brook, Stella Maris Church in Benoit's Cove and overseeing the expansion of Western Memorial Regional Hospital. He was an active member of the NL Association of Architects, a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, the Royal Institute of British Architects, Museum Association of NL, Heritage Foundation of NL, Railway Society of NL and Rotary Club of NL. Special thanks to the caring nurses, physicians and staff of WMRH's Pre-Admission and Palliative Care units and to all the good friends and neighbors whose support is helping us through this difficult time. A reception will be held on October 13, 2013 from 7-9 pm at the Glynmill Inn to celebrate his life. Cremation has already taken place. It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that the family of Matthew Manuel announce his sudden passing in a tragic accident at the young age of 22 on October 13, 2013. Matthew will be lovingly remembered by his mom and dad, Darlene and Bob, his dog Trigger, his nan Glenna Ash and pop Channon Manuel, also left to cherish Matthew's memory are his aunts, uncles, cousins and a wide circle of friends. Matthew loved life and he lived it to the fullest, Matthew had a passion for music especially the blues and contemporary Christian music, he was a very gifted guitar player and loved to perform for friends, family and even for a large audience. Matthew was also a recipient of music awards at the Salvation Army Music Camps. Matthew and his friends formed a band, "The Funk Machine" and were invited for the finals in the Northern Alberta Talent Search as well as a Television debut on Edmonton's Morning Show, Breakfast Television. Matthew was also an avid outdoors man who loved to go camping, skidooing, quadding and kayaking. Matthew and his dad especially loved their time together hunting and fishing. Meeting him up in Heaven will be his grandma Louise Manuel, his pop Charlie Ash and great-grandparents especially his poppy Jack. She will be lovingly remembered by her children: David (Brenda), Darren (Joy), Dwayne (Norma), and Dawn (Shannon) House; grandchildren: Danessa, Drew, Dustin, Danika Devon, Dante, Dylan, Dareh, and David (Anna); great grandchildren: Dexx, Wesley, and Rylee; sisters: Marjorie (Henry) Baker and Hettie Sarson, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Alton Lee Payne
, 48, of Windsor Junction, Nova Scotia, passed away on October 14, 2013. Alton was born in Rocky Harbour, Newfoundland on September 30, 1965. He was one of six children of James Alton Conrad Payne (d. 1986) and Pauline Blanche Payne (Shears) of Rocky Harbour. He graduated from Holy Cross High School in Daniel's Harbour, Newfoundland and earned a Bachelor of Science with honors in Geology from Memorial University. Alton was married to Holly Payne (Mills) on July 14, 2012; they had only just celebrated their first anniversary. In addition to his mother and widow, he is survived by his daughter, Hannah Gabrielle Payne; step-daughter, Paige Ryelin Kanasevich; sisters: Louise (Harvey) Mouland, Musgrave Harbour, NL, Blanche (Phonse) Tulk, Aspen Cove, NL and Holly Hicks, Conception Bay South, NL and brothers Boyd (Margaret), Rocky Harbour and Brett (Pansy), Lower Sackville, many nieces and nephews and his ex-wife and friend Martina Haas. Alton will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by the many people whose lives he touched and enriched. Visitation in Nova Scotia will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax on Friday, October 18th from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Memorial service will also be at J.A. Amy Catherine Snow (Nee McKay)
, 75 of Corner Brook, NL passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Friday, October 18, 2013 after a battle with cancer. Born February 7, 1938 in McKay's, NL, she was the daughter of the late Peter McKay and Amanda McKay (Nee Brake). She has been also predeceased by her husband Frank Everet Snow, her brothers: Ralph, Ross and George McKay, her sisters: Grace Oakley (Nee McKay), Stella Leadbetter (Nee McKay), a special nephew David McKay and her numerous cats. Amy enjoyed daily walk and her church where she was a member of the ACWA for 50 years, Amy volunteered at the Interfaith Home. She also enjoyed her gardens which were a source of great pride and joy. Her family whom is left to carry on her legacy and to celebrate her life are the following: her children whom she loved with all her heart; Verna (Bill) Simms, Maxine Snow (Andrew Martin), Brenda (Paul) Griffin, Catherine (Michael) Legge, Beverley (Mark) LaCosta and her chosen son David McKay (Vanessa Chaffey). Her grandchildren whom brought her happiness and enthusiasm; Beth (Jason) Hollingsworth, Rebecca Simms (Rendee Levesque), Jonathan Griffin, April Legge (Robert Rose), Lindsay Griffin (Robert Warren), Stephanie Legge, Amber Legge, Gregory LaCosta, Nicholas LaCosta and special great-niece Kirsten Walters, special great-nephew David Hunter McKay, special dog Lexi and her cat Chumley. Her great-grandchildren whom she adored are Aden and Austin Hollingsworth. However, she still wants more! Sisters: Ethel Gale and Lorna (Bernard) Hayward; sisters-in-law: Mildred McKay and Ruby McKay. Family and friends visited Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark's Avenue on Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 21 at 2:00 p.m. from All Saints' Anglican Church, Clarence Street with Rev. Tanya White officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. Thank you to all the nurses, doctors and caregivers at the Western Memorial Hospital who took such good care of Amy. Thanks to all who visited, she felt privileged to have so many who cared about her. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to All Saints Anglican Church, the Diabetic Association, the Autism Society or to a charity of one's choice. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Hedley Wareham announce his passing on Monday, October 28th, 2013 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook at the age of 91 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are, his wife of 69 years, Ruby (nee Pinsent); son Hedley "Ted" and his wife Beverley, Labrador City; daughter Norma Feakins (Husband, George deceased), Comox, British Columbia; grandchildren: Dionne, Jamie (Angela) and Terri (Jayson) Welsh; great-grandchildren Destiny and Devlin Wareham; two brothers, Harry and Edison Wareham; sister Maisie Freake; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his sisters Ermie and Betty and brother Doug. Friends and family may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, 10 Clinic Drive, Deer Lake on Thursday evening from 7-9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 1st at 2:00 p.m. from St. Paul's United Church with Reverend Myles Vardy officiating. The interment will follow at the Interdenominational Cemetery on Wight's Road. As expressions of sympathy, no flowers by request, donations in his memory may be made to the charity of one's choice.
