It is with great sadness that the family of the late William
Michael Cashin announce his passing on Sunday, October
1st, 2006 at the Western
Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook at the age of 85 years.
He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 57 years
Nina (nee Crocker), daughter Kitty (Leonard Kelly), four sons: Richard
(Valda), Michael (Mary), John (Linda) and Patrick (Mary Louise).
Grandchildren: Paula, Mary, Richard, Trina, Patrick, Jamie and great-grandchildren,
sisters: Dorothy Gorton, Texas, Mary (Pat) Pasquier, Tennessee, brother
John (Marina), Corner Brook, sister-in-law Verna (Roy) Barrett, Corner
Brook and his special companion Skip. As well as a large circle of
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased
by his parents Richard and Catherine Cashin and sister Peggy Boland.
The family will be receiving friends from Fillatre's Funeral Home,
218 Curling Street Sunday from the hours of 7-9 PM and Monday 2-4 & 7-9
PM followed by the Royal Canadian Legion Ritual. A memorial service
will he held on Wednesday, October 4th at 10:30 AM from Sacred Heart
Roman Catholic, Curling with Father Bernard Buckle officiating. As

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Golda
E. Burton announce her passing at the Central Newfoundland Regional Healthcare
Center in Grand Falls-Windsor on September 26, 2006 at age of 69.
Golda was a member of the Springdale Heritage Society and the Grace
United Church. Golda E. Burton retired from Librarian of the Springdale
Public Library in 2001. Golda is predeceased by parents: Ben and
Pearl Clarke, brothers: Roy, Harold, Edward and Jim. Left with fond
and loving memories are husband Ross H. Burton of Springdale, sons:
Ron (Kathy) of Corner Brook, Richard (Debra) of Shelburne, NS and

Passed away peacefully at Lakeridge Health, Oshawa on Friday, September
29, 2006, Arleen Frances Corey (nee Power) at the age of 48, beloved wife and
best friend of Paul, loving mother of Kathleen, Sian and Kevin, daughter
of the late Arthur and Kathleen Power of Stephenville. Fondly remembered
by sisters Clarissa (Paul) MacNeil, Theresa (Randy) Collins, brothers Keith
(Gloria) Power, Frank Power (Glen Hynes), and Gerald (Linda) Power. Predeceased
by brother Arthur Junior. Also left to mourn sister-in-law, Laverna Gaudon,

Committee. He retired from his business Central Pharmacy in 1992. Joe is

Died on Sunday, 8 October 2006, after a short illness, Rosalie
(Fowler) Elliott.
Predeceased by her loving husband, David Elliott, she leaves to mourn her
brother, Adrian; sister-in-law, Joanne Barber; two nieces, Madeline Fowler
and Patricia Hooper; two nephews, Joseph Fowler and Glen Hooper; cousins,
Regina and Frank Nolan, and Courtney and Mary Maddigan. For thirty years,
Rosalie was an inspiring and much-loved teacher of students of all ages and
abilities. She was also a gifted musician and a fine poet. After her retirement
from teaching school, she continued to teach music from her home. Rosalie
followed the careers of each and every one of her former students with passionate
interest and unshakeable belief in their unique capabilities and worth. Friends

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Harvey Overton
Fancey announce his passing at the Western Memorial Regional
Hospital on Saturday,
October 7th, 2006 in his 87th year. He was the last surviving
member of his immediate family. He was the son of the late Edgar and
Bessie Fancey. He was predeceased by his sisters, Julia Hampton, Gladys
Fancey and Winnifred Cooper, and his foster brother George Blake. Harvey
was a WWII veteran. He loved listening to Newfoundland music and also
reading. He is survived by his many nieces and nephews. Cremation has
taken place and a private family service will take place at a later date,
with interment to take place at the family plot of the Salvation Army
Cemetery at High Street in Deer Lake. The funeral arrangements are under

the age of 84 years. He was a former administrator of the Bay St.
George Long Term Care Centre, Stephenville Crossing and he devoted
his life to Health Care. He will be sadly missed by his two sons,
Gordon (Rosemary) Ross of Bishop's Falls, David (Barbara) Ross of
Kippens and five grandchildren: Matthew, Stephen, Davis, DeAnna,

Passed peacefully away
at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Monday, October
9, 2006 after a lengthy illness, Harold Butler at the age of 76 years. Despite
the many complications and hardship of his illnesses, anyone who
came into contact could not help but notice his sense of spirit,
bravery, positive attitude and jolly nature. Harold will be sadly
and forever missed by his wife Mildred (Price); daughter Dianne (Rick
Penney) and her children Robin and Adam Bishop; son Gary (Judy) and
their children Heather, Bradley and Lauren; daughter Cheryl (Carolyn
Maybee); son Derrick (Elizabeth) and their children, Mark and Gregory;
daughter Wendy (Brent Keats) and their son Nicholas. Having been
predeceased by brother Bert Vineham, he also leaves to mourn brothers
Reg and John Butler, Calvin Whelan and sister Laura Roberts and their
families. Harold worked with Canada Post Corporation retiring after
38 years of service. In his career he traveled to all the regions
of Newfoundland and Labrador making scores of lifelong friends. After
many years serving the community through the Corner Brook Lions Club
he received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award from Lions International
in recognition of his dedicated humanitarian services. When he took
the liberty of free time Harold, Mildred and family could have been
found on one of the many lakes or streams or in a campground somewhere
across NL. Cremation has taken place, visitation will be held at
Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark's Ave. Wednesday, October 11
from 2- 4p.m. & 7-9 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday,

It is with great sadness and loss that the family of Craig Paul
Gillam announce his sudden passing on Tuesday, October
3, 2006 at the age of 40.
Craig will be forever remembered in the hearts of his wife Maureen, his
son Stephen, daughter Gale, his parents Agnes and Graham Bishop, sisters
Lisa (Trevor, and children Brianna, Brandon, Robert, Megan and Mollie),
Cindy (Pat, and daughters Samantha and Holly) and Janet (Chris). He will
be greatly missed by his mother and father-in-law Cecilia and Pius Gale,
along with sisters-in-law Jenny (Tony, son Tyler), Kathleen (Jim, son Alexander)
and Margie (Todd, daughters Megan and Alexandra). Survived by his grandmother,
Mary Bishop and predeceased by his grandparents Frederick Bishop and Mary
and Emmanuel Gillam. Much loved nephew of Mary, Rita and Joe Gillam as
well as many other aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Craig served with
RCD's at CFB Petawawa. Craig is remembered as a respected leader, a loving
husband, father, son and brother, and to those who knew him he was someone
who was selfless with his time to help anyone in anyway needed. He will
be greatly missed by all. The funeral service in memory of Craig will be
held at St. Sylvester's Church, South Branch, NL on Saturday, October 14th at 1:00 p.m. Father Lee Lainey officiating, followed by the interment at

Passed away Thursday October 12 at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born
in Pilleys Island, NL, he was a son of Mildred (Alcock) and Jesse Poole.
Don practiced Dentistry in Corner Brook, NL, Sussex, NB and Kentville, NS.
Don, like his father, Jesse before him, was a tremendous story teller often
reducing people to uncontrollable tears of laughter. He was an excellent
bridge player, curler, Golfer, boat builder and wood worker. He brought a
loving gentleness and grace to whatever he did and whomever he met. Don married
the love of his life, Ann (Gillam) in 1952. Together they raised their boys
in a generous, loving and caring home. Don revered Ann and his sons and they
him. Don was much loved and will be deeply missed by his wife, Ann; sons,
Jeff (Carolyn), Calgary, AB, David (Sandra), West Brooklyn, NS; Steven (Lorna),
Carlisle, ON; grandchildren: Heather, Megan, Gillian and Julia; sisters,
Gwen Molnar, Cheektowaga, NY and Madge Steeves, Moncton, NB; special cousins,
Cyril Poole and Ed Poole; special sister-in-law, Rhoda Wells and many nieces,

NICKERSON (Cooper), Colleen Anne
Colleen Anne - 40, Cole Harbour, passed away peacefully in the Palliative
Care Unit, VG Site, QEII, on Sunday, October 22, 2006,
after a courageous battle with cancer. Born October 3, 1966, in Corner
Brook, N.L., she was the daughter of Kevin and Emily (Compagnon) Cooper,
Stephenville, N.L. On completion of college in St. John's, N.L., Colleen
came to Nova Scotia where she was employed with Karuba Clothing. Her spirit
and drive enabled her to quickly take on a role in management where she
garnered several awards including National Rookie Manager of the Year,
Manager of the Year and Visual Merchandiser of the Year. She moved on to
Sportelle and then as District Manager with Weekend Edition and in recent
years was employed as manager of Addition-Elle in Mic Mac Mall. Colleen's
niche was retail and anyone who met her immediately felt as if they were
her best friend. She had an incredible sense of humour, could put a smile
on anyone's face, and was always the life of any gathering between family
and friends. She made a positive, lasting impression on anyone she met
and had built a large clientele who came specifically to shop from her.
The void she has left can never be filled and she'll be missed by the hundreds
of people whose lives she touched. She leaves to mourn her loving husband,
Andrew "Nick"; sons, Tyler (14) and Cameron (7); brother, Gary
(Angela) Cooper, Cole Harbour; in-laws, Cliff and Velma Nickerson, Oromocto,

Passed away on Saturday, October 28th, 2006 at Western Memorial Regional
Hospital, David McKay at the age of 61 years. Although born in Halifax, David's
home and heart was always in McKay's, NL. After serving with the Royal Canadian
Regiment from 1965 - 1968 in London, On and with the United Nations in peace
keeping in Cyprus, he worked for 32 years in the construction industry with
the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 793, Oakville, Ontario.
Since his recent retirement David enjoyed being with Marian; working in the
great outdoors, going to his cabin, rabbit catching and starting his hobby
farm. David leaves to mourn and will be sadly missed by his loving wife Marian
(nee Quilty); his beloved mother, Grace McKay Oakley of Bedford, NS; his
four children: Brenda (Mark) Rossignol, Porters Lake, NS, David (Amanda)

well as friends and co-workers stretching from home to Ontario and beyond,
including special friends: Bill and Veronica Stone, John and Ruby Short,
Ontario, Peggy and Cyril Gillam; Philip, Betty and Madison Mouland of Newfoundland.
He was predeceased by his grandparents: Peter and Amanda McKay, step-father:
Gerald R. Oakley; uncle: Ross McKay and father-in-law: Ben Quilty. Cremation
has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place from St. George's
Anglican church, Robinsons with the date and time to be announced later.
As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
the Palliative Care Unit of Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Genevieve
Bennett announce
her passing at her residence on Sunday, October 29th, 2006 at
the age of 92 years. She will be sadly missed by her six sons: Gervase,
Lester, Wayne, all in Stephenville Crossing, Melvin in Ontario, Michael
(Jane) in Vancouver and Cecil (Yvonne) in St. George's, three daughters:
Isabel Bennett, Lavern (Lester) Brumsey in Stephenville Crossing and Sheila
(Gary) Chambers in Barrie, Ontario. Also leaving to mourn are her two sisters:
Delia Sullivan in St. George's and Evelyn Stevens in Stephenville Crossing,
16 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and a large circle of relatives
and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Cecil Bennett in 1989,
her son Gerald and daughter Margaret Rose. Funeral service will take place
on Wednesday, November 1st, 2006 at 10 AM from Assumption Parish in Stephenville
Crossing with interment in the Roman Catholic Cemetery on Brook Street.
Friends may call at Russell's Funeral Home, 1 Station Road in Stephenville

Brinston announce her passing at Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre, Stephenville
Crossing on Monday, October 30, 2006 at the age of 85
years. She will be sadly missed by one son, Alvin and friend Vera Brown,
two daughters: Doreen Brinston in Stephenville and Althea (Guy) Hillier
in Conception Bay South. Also leaving to mourn are her eight grandchildren,
four great grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Wesley, sisters: Sadie Smith, Bessie
Mercer, Lillian Smith, Jenny Butt and Emily Vaders, her brothers: William
Crocker, Joseph Crocker, Caleb Crocker and Walter Crocker. Funeral services
will take place on Thursday, November 2nd at 2:00 p.m. from Zion Pentecostal
Church, Carolina Avenue, Stephenville with interment at the Hillside
Interfaith Cemetery, Hansen Highway, Stephenville. Friends may call at

Roche announces
her passing at the Palliative Care Unit, Western Memorial Regional

with fond and loving memories: her son, David (Laurie); grand-children: Jacob & David;
sisters: Mary Jo Roche of Curling and Marion Thomas (Bill) of Vancouver;
brothers: Tom Battcock of Montreal and John Battcock (Theresa) of Elmsdale,
NS; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was
predeceased by her husband, Charles; parents, Thomas & Mary Battcock;
sister, Annette Battcock; and nephew, Jerry Battcock. The family will
be receiving friends at Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road on Tuesday,
October 31, 2006 from 7-9 p.m. The memorial service will take place
on Saturday, November 4, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Parish, Curling
with Father Buckle officiating. Interment at a later date. In
