MCCANN, Peter Cyril
Passed on: July 29th, 2015
March 25, 1921 - July 28, 2015

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Peter McCann announce his passing on July 28, 2015 at the Corner Brook Long Term Care. Surviving a major stroke for more than eight years with incredible fortitude, Peter leaves to honour and cherish his generous heart, Teresa, his wife of 71 years. Peter also leaves to mourn their nine children: Mary (Stephen); Ray (Marian); Arlene (Jim); Judy (Greg); Glenn (Joanne); Percy (Aicha); Peter (Liz); Ann (Theresa); Michael (Polly); 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The second oldest in a large family, Peter leaves to mourn his brothers: Bill (Edna); Edward (Anita); Ben (Philomena); sisters-in-law, Kay McCann (Denis) and Kay McCann (Phil) along with many nieces and nephews including very special friends and nephew, Danny and Mary McCann and Alonzo James. Predeceased by daughter Phyllis, parents Jerry and Agnes McCann, sisters: Nell, Beth, Bride and Anne and brothers: Patrick, Daniel, Jim, Phil, Dennis and John. Peter learned the values of resourcefulness, tenacity and creativity early in life - through experience and necessity. He was a man of many firsts. He and Teresa developed diverse skills and applied them at every opportunity in their family and often in service to others. As a part of a vibrant business, Peter supported the construction of many roads throughout NL, brought the first school buses to his community, led a water project to bring water into many homes and contributed to endless worthy projects including church, school, and community fundraisers over many years. A remarkable spirit has moved on and we are comforted by the caring memories of this special man. We treasure the legacy of strength of character, outstanding courage and consistent patience and kindness that he has left for us to emulate. Forever thankful for his lucidity and ability to be engaged up to his last days, Peter, with his unwavering sense of humor and ready smile, gave thanks daily for the gift of his mind and the use of his left hand. A hardworking businessman throughout all his years, Peter was a humble man with incredible abilities. The latest of these was another acquired skill - the ability to paint with his left hand - remarkable for someone who was right-handed! His tenacity to do this resulted in one of his paintings being chosen for the 2011 Western Health Christmas card. A very special thanks to Denise Gould, former Activity Director in Corner Brook LTC. Special thanks to all those, both staff and volunteers in LTC and all others, who have been a part of Peter's life and who have, in any way provided love, care and support through the challenging days of long term care. Even though we will never again see the twinkle in Peter's eye here on Earth we will notice it, in how he impacts the stars shining brighter in the night sky. Peter will forever live on in our hearts and in our stories. Funeral Services: Visiting with family will be from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Friday, July 31 at Russell's Funeral Home, 57 Prince Rupert Drive in Stephenville. A Mass of requiem will take place at Our Lady of Mercy Heritage Church on Saturday, August 1 at 11 am followed by burial at Port-au-Port East. A reception will follow at the Twilight Seniors Club on Hynes Road. Both Peter and Teresa embraced a strong commitment to education and as a result a Scholarship Fund has been set up in their name. In lieu of flowers, it would be greatly appreciated if donations can be made in Peter's name to The Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador Peter and Teresa McCann Scholarship Trust Fund. Donations can be made by calling 1-877-700-4081, online at "www.munalum.ca/giving/", or by cheques payable to Memorial University and mailed to Memorial University, Alumni Affairs and Development, Peter & Teresa McCann Scholarship Trust Fund, St. John's, NL A1C 5S7. MYRDEN, Audrey Helen (nee Gear)
Passed on: July 14th, 2015
April 4, 1925 - July 14, 2015
Audrey Myrden
entered eternal life on July 14, 2015, she was welcomed into the arms of her father Dr. Walter Gear, her mother, Angelina Gear, her sister, Doris Mercer and her brother Gordon Gear. Her spirit (and many recipes) will be carried on by her four children, grandchildren, and her many wonderful friends. Audrey was born and raised in Grand Falls, NL graduated from her high school, Grand Falls Academy and attended Mount Allison University to become a Dietician. Unfortunately, she never finished her degree as her dad passed away while she was in University and she had to return home to look after her mother. She married the late Jack Myrden and moved to Corner Brook, NL where she raised her children; Bruce Myrden (Lillian), Sherry White (Dr. Paul), Diane Myrden (Rodney) and Blair Myrden all who claim to be her favourite. She would never admit who that "really" was. Also left to remember her fondly are her grandchildren; Dr. Susan Myrden (Joe Hutton), Nancy Myrden, Tawnya Solo (Shannon), Ryan White (Renee), Sandra Pike, Andrea Pike, John Pike, and great grandchildren Skylar Pringle, Gavin Pringle and Cyrus Pike. Never far from her mind were her many nieces and nephews and their children whom she so adored and stayed close with over the years. She could often be heard saying, "I've lived a good life". She had found contentment in this world and it could be felt in her smile. Audrey was known to all as a extraordinary cook. She loved being in the kitchen whipping up gourmet meals, entertaining her friends, her weekly card games, and lunches at the Glynmill Inn with the "girls". Audrey was active with the church in her day and her faith carried her through all her trials and tribulations. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Wonderland School for many years. She found joy in the simplest things, going to the grocery store, a drive down the bay or a phone call from a friend made her day. Through her many battles she saved a smile for everyone and continued to leave her mark in this world. She was an inspiration. We will remember her warmth, her energy, her love for friends, family and dinner parties. Audrey was our Matriarch, the Queen Bee and a fighter. Love live her beauty through all of us. Thank You to the Nurses and Doctors in Palliative Care who lovingly took care of her and to Reverend David Russell and Wayne and Linda Lewis for always being there. We will remember your kindness towards our mother. With respect to our mother's wishes cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. In Lieu of flowers we ask that you bake something and pass it on to someone in need of a "pick me up". It's what she would have done. If you can't bake and you wish to make a donation in our mother's memory, then donate to any children's charity.

PORTER, Joshua Glenn Gordon
Born: September 14th, 1985
Passed on: July 6th, 2015

It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Joshua Porter announce his tragic passing in Etobicoke, Ontario on Monday, July 6, 2015. Born September 14, 1985 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital to parents Darlene Thornton (Howie) and Glenn Companion (Natalie). Joshua will be sadly missed by all who loved him during his too short life of 29 years. Joshua served his life as more than a loving son. He was also a brother to Jenna Porter and Jason Hackett (Melissa) and a devoted boyfriend to Katherine Cordosa (Kat) and he was uncle to nephews Cameron and Hayden; and grandson to Eileen Companion and the late Joseph Companion, and the late Gordon and Ruth Porter. Included in those left to mourn are countless aunts and uncles, cousins and friends. Having left Newfoundland as a young child, with his mother, Joshua was determined to make his own way. Joshua loved living in Etobicoke. Though born in Newfoundland, he loved the city like his mother, he even turned down offers to join his father on trips in the woods, for fishing and hunting. Instead, he lived to ride motorcycle, work and spend time with friends. Joshua was family to more than those listed above. Those fortunate enough to be true friends, considered him a brother as well, someone ready to stand up for a family at a moment's notice, to lend a helping hand and offer a ready smile. It would only take a brief discussion with him to learn how serious and ambitious Joshua was. A hard worker, Joshua didn't mind roofing from daylight to dawn. He passed many days with work and sleep, and nothing in between. Joshua believed in an honest day's work, earning everything he had. No better feeling than working towards a goal and getting there. Finally starting his own company... purchasing a car... a motorbike... these were all days when he was bursting with pride. The past few years were spent with the dreams of buying his own home, working towards this next goal... it was this drive that fuelled him and made him an inspiration to friends and family alike. The Funeral Mass will take place Sunday, July 12th at 3 pm from Fillatre's Funeral Home Chapel, 4 St. Marks Avenue with Father Donald Leonard officiating, followed by the interment at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Benoits Cove. Friends may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home 4 St. Mark's Avenue Saturday, July 11th from 7-9 pm. As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted or memorial donations may be made to a charity of ones choice.
Joshua will be sorely missed by all who loved him.
