It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Charles Joseph Johnson. Charlie was just 60 years old when he died of complications after heart surgery. He was born and raised in Stephenville, Newfoundland and died at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland on July 19th. Born on January 11th, 1950 to Stan and Lurley Johnson in Little Catalina. He worked at Newfoundland Light and Power for 30 years and retired in 2005. Charlie enjoyed gardening, cooking and he loved music. Anyone who has ever visited him at his residence at 33 Empire Avenue can attest to the fact that he was a friendly and welcoming person and every guest would be made to feel right at home. Charlie spent the last 20 years with the love of his life, Jean Radford, the pair loved to have fun and spent many nights cooking elaborate meals for friends and enjoying each others company. Charlie leaves to mourn three daughters, Tammy Connors, Kelli Radford and Ryanne Radford to whom he was a warm, caring and protective father. He is survived by his wife Jean Radford and his mother Lurley Johnson. He is also survived by his Aunt Maisie Rowe and his Uncle Jabez and Aunt Josie as well as the Priddle family and many, many friends. Charlie was predeceased by his father and best friend Stan Johnson. Visitation will take place at Russell's Funeral Home, 57 Prince Rupert Drive on Thursday July 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. A Memorial Service for Charlie will take place at the First United Church, 44 West Street at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 23. Love is stronger than death even though it can't stop death from happening, but no matter how hard death tries it can't separate people from love. It can't take away our memories either. In the end, life is stronger than death.
