Grandfather’s Prayer
There is a green hill far away
Without a city wall
Where our Dear Lord was crucified
He died to save us all.
He died that we might be forgiven
He died to make us good,
That we might go at last to Heaven
Saved by his precious blood.
There was no other good enough
to pay the price for sin
He could only unlock the gate,
if Heaven would let us in
Dearly, dearly as below and we
must love him too
Trust in his redeeming blood and
try his works to do.
Amen

REID, Bruce E.
CWO (Ret) MMM CD
August 8, 1941 - July 4, 2008
Bruce E. Reid, holding the hands of his wife, Joan and children, Wendy
and Bob, passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary,
Alberta, after a brief illness on Friday, July 4, 2008 at the age of
66 years. Bruce will always be known as a beloved husband and father,
adoring grandfather, proud brother and respected friend. He is survived
by his treasured wife of 44 years, Joan; daughter, Wendy Reid-Everett
(Guy); son, Robert Reid (Darin); and much loved grandchildren, Tayler
and Liam Everett. His memory will be cherished by his sisters, nieces
nephews, extended family and many dear friends. A proud Newfoundlander,
Bruce was born in Grand Falls and was raised in Corner Brook. Brought
up by his mom, Elizabeth Dicks-Reid, he was the little brother to Anita,
Ruby, Eileen and Barbara and a big brother to Linda. He grew up in a
loving household and was taught to live his life with honesty and integrity
and to help those around him in need. Bruce was an accomplished man who
had many remarkable achievements. He graduated high school at age 14
and too young to attend university, he worked various places until joining
the Canadian military at age 17. His military career spanned 31 years
starting in 1959, until his retirement in 1990, when he and his wife
settled in Calgary. He began his career with the Black Watch Regiment
and then later re-mustered to the Pay Corps (Logistics-Finance), where
he worked in numerous capacities. Additionally, he worked with the 1978
Commonwealth Games in Edmonton and completed a Peacekeeping Tour of Duty
with the United Nations in Egypt. In 1985, Bruce was honoured with the
Order of Military Merit, which recognizes exceptional service by members
of the Canadian Forces. After retirement at age 48, Bruce returned to
working life as the Housing Officer for CFB Calgary and worked with the
Canada Lands Company to assist in the closure and transition of CFB Calgary.
Never one to sit still, after his second retirement, he worked with the
Commissionaires and later as a morning shuttle driver for Courtesy Chrysler.
Bruce was always an active volunteer, whether coaching his son’s
hockey and t-ball teams or his daughter’s softball team; maintaining
various positions with his curling clubs, bowling leagues, the Royal
Canadian Legion and the UN Association; or providing income tax services
to seniors - the list is endless. Bruce was an avid sportsman who loved
hockey, curling, Canadian football (he argued with his son-in-law regularly
about the NFL Fair-Catch Rule) and golf. A proud supporter of his grandkids,
he could be found at almost every soccer and hockey game, equestrian
event and school performance. For all of his achievements, Bruce will
best be remembered for his love and devotion to his family and friends,
his big smile and his wry sense of humour (he was a Newfie after all!).
Bruce will be greatly missed by everyone who knew this wonderful, loving
and honourable man. Please forward condolences through http://www.legacy.com/can-calgary
or to the family directly at everett4@telus.net
