Passed
away on Sunday, May 30th, 1999 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital,
Beatrice Annie Ford in her 91st year. Leaving to mourn with fond and
loving memories, her son, John and his wife Shirley, and granddaughter
Gail Byrne and her husband George, all residing in Corner Brook; one
sister, Lorna Herbert, North Surrey, BC, and a large circle of nieces,
nephews, other relatives and friends. Predeceased by her husband George
Ford in 1993. Visitation will take place from Fillatre's Funeral Home,
4 St. Mark's Avenue, on Monday evening from 7-9 p.m. and on Tuesday from
10-12 noon. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 1st, 1999
at 2:00 p.m. from The First United Church, Park Street, Rev. Feltham
officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expressions

that the family of the late Francis John Simon announce his passing at

6 great grandchildren, and a large circle of relatives and friends. The
family will be receiving friends Monday 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4 and
7-9 p.m. at Fillatre's Funeral Home, 7 West Street, Stephenville Crossing.
The funeral mass will take place on Wednesday, June 2nd, at 10 a.m. from
the Church of the Assumption with Father Aidan Devine officiating. Interment
to follow at the Roman Catholic Church Cemetery, Brook Street. As expressions

family of the late Mr. Roy Pawley announce his passing at his family
residence on Monday, May 31st, 1999 at the age of 91 years. He will be
sadly missed by his loving wife, Margaret (nee Tremblett); his daughter,
Isabel and husband Max Layden of Corner Brook; his sons: Donald Pawley
(Jennifer Bennett), and Allan (Mary) Pawley, all residing at Corner Brook;
six grandchildren: Lillian, Thomas, David, Matthew, Matthew (two listed),
and Nikki; his nephew, Michael (Laura) and children Allison and Jeffrey.
He will be also missed by a large number of other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will take place on Thursday at 2 p.m. from Humber
United Church on Clarence Street with Rev. Clayton Parsons officiating.
The interment will take place at the United Church section of Mount Patricia

family of the late Merella Leah Walsh announce her passing on Monday,
May 31st, 1999 at the Boone Bay Cottage Hospital at the age of 50. She
will be sadly missed by her loving husband Ronald Walsh; son Andrew Walsh
and special friend Jennifer; daughter Kelly Walsh and special friend
Kerry, both of Mississauga, Ontario; mother Hilda Roberts; four sisters:
Dorothy (Clarence) Roberts, Olive (Harold) Payne, Mona (Curtis) Payne,
and Marilyn (Nick) Roberts; five brothers: Calvin, Robert (May), Clarence
(Lisa), Malcolm (Mona), and Ray (Paulette). Special niece Nikita Roberts.
Also a large number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was
predeceased by her father Reginald Roberts; sister Bulah Hulan; and sister-in-law
Alma Roberts. Visitation took place from St. Alban's Anglican Church,
Sally's Cove, Tuesday, June 1st, 1999. Funeral services will take place
today, Wednesday, June 2nd, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. John Meade officiating.
Interment to follow at the Anglican Church Cemetery, Sally's Cove. Flowers

GILLIS, Constable Danielle C. Curtis
1973-1999
Danielle C. Gillis, of
Sechelt, BC, passed away as a result of a mountain bike accident in Sechelt,
BC, (Wilson Creek) on Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at the age of 25 years.
Born on December 18, 1973 in Moncton, NB, she was the daughter of Rory
and Maria (Follett) Gillis of Riverview, NB. Danielle was a dedicated
and highly principled officer with the Sechelt RCMP Detachment, where
she was posted following her graduation in October 1997. Danielle excelled
in all levels of sport and in her professional and personal life; she
was community and youth oriented. She was a 1995 graduate and a member
of the Dean's List of St. Mary's University where she received a BA and
a Certificate in Criminology. She played rugby and hockey at the university.
Danielle was a former member of the 56th Field Engineers in St. John's,
NF and a member of the Princess Louise Hussars in Moncton. In addition
to general detachment duties, Danielle was a S.O.C.O. (Scene of Crime
Officer) for Forensic Ident. for the Sechelt Detachment. She will be
lovingly remembered by her parents, Rory and Maria Gillis; her maternal
grandmother Cecille Follet of Corner Brook, NF; one brother Trent Gillis
of Oromocto, NB; two sisters Cara Gillis of Halifax, NS, and Cynthia
Gillis at home; and by several aunts, uncles and cousins. Danielle will
be sadly missed by her colleagues at Sechelt Detachment and by special
friends Jason Gallagher of the Sechelt Fire Department and Cst. Peter
Vail of Fredericton, NB, as well as by her multitude of friends across
Canada. Visitation took place on Monday, May 31, 1999 from 2-4 p.m. and
7-9 p.m. at Riverview Funeral Home, 214 Pine Glen Road. The funeral mass
was held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church (Riverview)
on Tuesday, June 1, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Daniel Bohan officiating.

and regret that the family of the late Josephine Mary O'Rourke announce
her passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Sunday,
June 6th, 1999 at the age of 80 years. She will be sadly missed by her loving
family: daughter, Helen Gordon of Sudbury, Ontario; son, Roger (Audrey)
MacDonald of Corner Brook; sisters: Elsie McKay of Curling and Genevieve
(Walter) Gabriel of Sydney, Nova Scotia; grandchildren: Gregory, Christine,
David and Jamie Gordon, Cory and Christa MacDonald; brothers-in-law Jim
(Ann) O'Rourke of Corner Brook and John Cormier of Sudbury, Ontario;
sister-in-law Eileen (Frank) Gronich of St. John's and also a large circle
of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her
husband Harold (Bud) O'Rourke in 1998, her daughter Peggy in 1967 and
her parents, Casmier and Sarah. Visitation will take place at Wellington
Funeral Home on Monday 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral
service will take place on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. from All Hallows Roman
Catholic Church, Humber Road with Monsignor William Boone officiating.
Interment will follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,
tributes may be made by making donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation

friend Emily Pardy, Pasadena. She was predeceased by her husband Steward
in 1973 and son Derek in 1997. The family will be receiving friends from

ALLEY, Mildred
Age 91, a resident of Cleveland, died Wednesday evening
at the family residence following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Alley was a
native of Newfoundland, Canada. She was the daughter of the late Eliza
Russell Purdy and Thomas Purdy. She was also preceded in death by her
husband, Leslie Alley of Cleveland, her daughter, Rita Candow of Nova
Scotia and by her grandson, Gregory Farr of Atlanta, Georgia. Mrs. Alley
was of the Episcopal Faith. Survivors include 2 daughters, Rose Alley
of Cleveland and Sylvia Farr and her husband Tom Farr of Atlanta Georgia,
1 son Don Alley and his wife Betty Alley of Cleveland, 6 grandchildren,
Melissa Alley and Donna Alley Simpson of Cleveland, Glenn and Gary Candow
of Nova Scotia and Jeffrey Farr of Charlotte, North Carolina and Tommy
Farr of Charleston, South Carolina and 5 great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning at 10:00 from the
North Chapel of Buckner-Rush Funeral Homes with Reverend James Forgey
officiating. Entombment will follow in the Sunset Memorial Gardens. The
family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. Friday at the North Chapel
of the Buckner-Rush Funeral Homes who has charge of the arrangements.

of Rufus Payne of Spaniard's Bay, aged 54 years, which occurred at the
Carbonear General Hospital, on June 9, 1999, after a courageous battle

Howard William Leitch of Calgary,
Alberta, beloved husband of Mrs. Hanya (Anne Evans) Leitch, of Calgary,
passed away at the Agape Hospice on May 20th, 1999. Mr. Leitch was born
in Port au Port, Newfoundland on January 6th, 1920 to John Joseph Leitch
and Elizabeth Jesseau. He is survived by four children by his first wife

1999 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Doyle
Ambrose Mills,
at the age of 81 years. Doyle was a former counselor of the city of Corner
Brook from 1978-1981, and served as Deputy Mayor from 1982-1985, he was
vice president of the Humber Joint Council from 1981-1983, 1984-1985,
former president of the Concerned Citizens Committee, and he was employed
at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Middle Management from 1951-1983.
Doyle will be sadly missed by his loving wife Ella (nee: Young); five
sons: Derek, Kitchener, Ont., Neil and special friend Shelly, Kitchener,
Ont., Raymond and wife Joan, Corner Brook, Wayne, Corner Brook, Nelson
and wife Barbara, Corner Brook; three daughters: Valetta and husband
Gerald Pinder, Kitchener, Ont., Carol and husband Dave Sztorc, Kitchener,
Ont., Valda and husband Glenn Wheeler, Corner Brook; thirteen grandchildren:

15th, 1999 at
the Interfaith Home for Seniors, Mrs. Maude Wilton of Corner Brook. She
was in her 91st year. Leaving to mourn with fond and precious memories
are her nine daughters and three sons: Elizabeth Mahoney (William), Ann
Ford (Fred), Patricia Good (Loran), Sheila Hicks (Roy), Judith Park (Robert),
Pauline Wilton, all residing in Corner Brook, Mary Coles (William), Jean
Kaye, of Toronto, Ont., and Danica Cossitt (William), Dartmouth, NS;
sons: Ralph (Patricia), Ronald (Evelyn), Corner Brook, and Robert, Montreal;
brother, Ronald O'Keefe, Port Saunders. She is survived by twenty-nine
grandchildren, thirty-four great grandchildren and one great great grandson,
several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is predeceased
by her husband Gordon, 1996, daughter Shirley, 1957, three grandchildren:
Richard Good, 1979, Eric Wilton, 1988 and Kathleen Connolly, 1994; one
great granddaughter, Rebecca Park, 1993, daughter-in-law, Irene Elkins
Wilton, 1972, sons-in-law: Sandy Kaye, 1994, and Philip O'Connell, 1992.

of 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Friday, June

Wednesday, June 9th, 1999, Frank Young in his 71st year. He will be sadly
missed by his beloved wife of 49 years, Mary Elizabeth (nee Rose) and
his 10 children: Henry and wife Rose of Burgeo, Betty and husband Howard
Scott of Ramea, Raymond and wife Roberta of Rose Blanche, Ephraim and
wife Joan of Rose Blanche, Douglas and wife Herma of St. John's, Norman
and wife Jacqueline of Deer Lake, Thomas of Witby, Ontario, John of Edmonton,
Alberta, Frank and wife Lynn of Chapel Arm, and Clayton and fiancee Debbie
of Stephenville. He also leaves to mourn 24 grandchildren, sisters Elsie
Pink of Ramea and Carrie Haines of Kelligrews, and a large number of
relatives and friends. Many thanks to the staff of Calder Health Care
Centre for their understanding and comfort. His remains rested at St.
John the Evangelist Anglican Church at Burgeo and a service of thanksgiving
for the life of Frank took place on Friday, June 11th, 1999 with catechist
David Burrows officiating. Interment followed at Burgeo Community Cemetery.

1999 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Doyle
Ambrose Mills, at the age of 81 years. Doyle was a former counselor of the city of Corner
Brook from 1978-1981, and served as Deputy Mayor from 1982-1985, he was
vice president of the Humber Joint Council from 1981-1983, 1984-1985,
former president of the Concerned Citizens Committee, and he was employed
at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Middle Management from 1951-1983.
Doyle will be sadly missed by his loving wife Ella (nee: Young); five
sons: Derek, Kitchener, Ont., Neil and special friend Shelly, Kitchener,
Ont., Raymond and wife Joan, Corner Brook, Wayne, Corner Brook, Nelson
and wife Barbara, Corner Brook; three daughters: Valetta and husband
Gerald Pinder, Kitchener, Ont., Carol and husband Dave Sztorc, Kitchener,
Ont., Valda and husband Glenn Wheeler, Corner Brook; thirteen grandchildren:

Passed away Saturday, June 26, 1999, Mary
A. Terry at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook in her
85th year. She will be sadly missed by her three sons; Jamie and wife
Ida, Gerard and wife Mae, Cyril and wife Marilyn; four daughters: Josephine
and husband Frank Hunt, Jane and husband Joseph Clark, Mary and husband
Herbert Hann Jr., Agnes and friend Andrew Gushue; twenty nine grandchildren,
thirty-five great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; one brother
Lawrence Byrne; two sisters-in-law: Priscilla and Margaret Byrne. She
will be sadly missed by a special niece Sister Margaret Byrne, and numerous
other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased
by her husband Hughie, son Michael and daughter Mary. The funeral service
will be held Tuesday, June 29th at 10:30 a.m. from all Hallows Roman
Catholic Church, Humber Road, Mons. William Boone officiating, followed
by interment at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. Friends visited St. Brennans Roman
Catholic Church in Irishtown Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. As expressions
of sympathy flowers or donations to a charity of ones choice will be
graciously accepted. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fillatre's

that the family of the late Roderick Gabriel announce his passing at
the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital on Sunday, June 27th at the age of 59
years. He will be sadly missed by his wife Bernadette, his son Neil (Una)
Whelan in Stephenville; two daughters: Mary Whelan in Stephenville, and
Debbie (Mike) Wazalak in Scarbourgh, Ontario. He will also be sadly missed
by his three brothers; Philip Gabriel in Ontario, Joseph (Mary) Gabriel
in Moncton, New Brunswick, and Duncan Cormier in Stephenville, as well
as his 4 sisters: Emily (Bill) Myers in Thompson, Manitoba, Shirley Gabriel
in Ontario, Annetta (Dave) Gabriel in Stephenville, and Carolyn (Sears)
Keating in Stephenville along with 7 grandchildren and a large circle
of relatives and friends. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday,
June 30th, at 10 a.m. from St. Stephen's Parish on West Street with interment
in the Hillside Interfaith Cemetery on the Hanson Highway. Friends may

It is with great sadness that
the family of the late Freeman Charles Piercey announce his passing at
the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Monday, June 28th,
1999 in
his 83rd year. He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 56 years, Beatrice;
two sons: Darrell (Sandra) and Reginald; three grandchildren: Stephen,
Janice and David, all residing in Corner Brook; two sisters: Olive Coffin
of Ontario, and Hilda Rideout of St. John's; one brother, Chesley of
St. John's; two sisters-in-law: Maggie (Harry) Simms of Corner Brook
and Mary Piercey of Hermitage, and a large circle of relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his brother Reginald and sister Jennie Fudge. The
family will be receiving friends from Fillatre's Funeral Home, St. Marks
Avenue on Tuesday from the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., also Wednesday
from 10-12 noon. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June
30th, at 2:00 p.m. from All Saints Anglican Church, Clarence Street,
Rev. Percy Coffin officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia
Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations to

brothers: Chester (Lynn) and Aubrey (Alberta), bother of Whitby, Ontario;
five brothers-in-law: Ralph (Emily) of Corner Brook, Randolph (Cluda),
James (Carrie), both of Hampden, Douglas (Eileen) and Howard (Whillmenia)
both of Ontario; four sisters-in-law: Golda of Nova Scotia, Julie (James),
Shelia (Wayne) and Adelaide, all of Hampden. Also a large circle of nieces,
nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her two brothers-in-law:
Harold and James. Visitation will take place from the Salvation Army
Church in Hampden today, Tuesday, and Wednesday, where also funeral services
will take place on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. with interment to follow at
the family plot. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parsons Funeral
Home, 63 Northmain Street, Deer Lake.

that the family of the late Brian Joseph Duffy Sr. of Port au Port East
announce his passing at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville
on Tuesday, June 29, 1999 at the age of 51 years. He will be sadly missed
by his loving wife, Betty; and three sons: Brian Jr. (Lisa) in Kippens,
Roger (Laurie) and Clyde (Mandy), all in Port au Port East. He will also
be sadly missed by his mother, Marg Duffy in Port au Port East; and one
sister, Mary (Gus) Kelly in Gander and two brothers: Neil (Eva) Duffy
and Jerry (Marie) Duffy, all in Port au Port East; and two grandchildren:
Brandon and Lauren; and his mother-in-law, Grace AuCoin in Kippens; sister-in-law,
Zoe Duffy in Toronto, and a large circle of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews,
brothers/sisters-in-law, and many friends. He was predeceased by his
son, Bobby Duffy; his father, James Duffy; brother, Jim Duffy; sister,
Maureen Duffy; godson, Paul AuCoin; brother-in-law, Urban Grayson. Friends
may call at the Maria Regina Parish in Port au Port East on Wednesday.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday, July 1st, at 2:00 p.m.

of the late Leila Grace Janes announce her passing on Monday,

Heather Osmond, Ottawa, Ontario; three sisters: Evelyn Tiller, St. John's,
Georgina (Lloyd) Toms, Glenburrie, Sharon (Klaus) Otten, Edmonton, Alberta;
three brothers: Roderick (Thelma) Shears, Goose Bay, Labrador, Austin
(Myra) Shears, Cormack, and Benjamin (Beatrice) Shears, Hawke's Bay;
sister-in-law, Mildred Shears, Corner Brook. She will also be greatly
missed by a large circle of nieces, nephews relatives and friends. She
was predeceased by her husband, Robert A. Janes; parents, Richard Daniel
and Olive Shears; also brother, Richard T. Shears. Visitation will take
place from St. David of Wales Anglican Church, Pasadena, beginning on
Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday from 10-12 noon. The
funeral service will take place from the Church on Thursday, July 1st,
1999 at 2:00 p.m., Canon David Pearce officiating. Interment will follow
at the Anglican Cemetery, Deer Lake. As expressions of sympathy, donations
may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to St. David of Wales Anglican
