CASEY, John Thomas "Jack"
Born: July 2nd, 1922
Passed on: June 15th, 2015

Passed away at WMRH surrounded by the love of his family on Monday, June 15, 2015. Our husband, Dad, grandfather and great-grandfather, John Thomas "Jack" Casey, formerly of Conche, resided in Pasadena for the past 23 years, and now residing at Deer Lake Manor, in his 92nd year, 17 days shy of turning 93 years young. Born in Conche, the son of Michael and Norah (Sullivan) Casey, and the last surviving member of his family. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by sisters, Ellen Shannon, Maude O'Neil, Lucy Whelan, and Kay Casey; brothers, Bernard, Clifford, Vincent and his beloved grandson, Bryan Norman (2011). Left to mourn, with loving memories, his wife, of 68 years, Edna (Kearney); his children: Helen Norman (Roy - Deceased), Kay O'Connor (Pat), Shirley Purchase (Wayne-deceased), Donna Foss (Carl), Gary Casey, and Linda Mishimagi (Tomo); nine grandchildren: Jennifer (Rod), Janice, Adrian (Laura), Kim (Matt), Laura, Andrew (Nicole), Shannon, Nicolas and Tatiana; six great-grandchildren: Samantha, Holly, Paige, Nicki, Taylor and Abby. Also left to mourn nieces, nephews, other relatives, neighbours, friends and "family" at Deer Lake Manor. Our Dad enjoyed history, current events and relating stories of when he grew up in the War and Depression era. He started fishing when he was but 14 years old, and continued to do so into his late 70s. He loved wood-working and spent endless hours whittling and carving. One of his many accomplishments was boat building; he built numerous boats and trap skiffs, including a 35-foot long-liner, appropriately named the "John & Vincent". He was quite opinionated over the close of the commercial cod/salmon fishery and subsequent Moratorium, and felt the "Food Fishery" an insult to commercial fishermen. Visitation to take place at Holy Rosary Parish Hall on Tuesday between the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Rosary Church, Pasadena on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with Monsignor Edwin Gale officiating. Interment will follow in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, North Harbour Road, Pasadena. Reception will follow at Holy Rosary Parish Hall. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one's choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Country Haven Funeral Home, Corner Brook, NL. The family guest book may be signed by visiting www.country-haven.ca

DAWE, P.ENG, James Russell
Born In: Corner Brook, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada
Born: June 24th, 1940
Passed in: Burlington, Ontario, Canada
Passed on: June 14th, 2015
James (Jim) R. Dawe
, an engineer, a builder and fixer, spent most of his life making things work for other people. He grew up in Corner Brook, Newfoundland, and fell madly in love with Jeanette MacDonald, the light of his life for 55 years. Jim moved to Burlington, Ontario where he excelled professionally as an engineer. He was a member of Mensa International and a walking encyclopedia for his family and friends long before Google. He was a devoted husband, an uncle, a brother and brother-in-law, a friend, BBQ griller, a story-teller and a rock. He dabbled in macrame, wire art and captured the lives of his family in photographs. Always the champion, if he played you in a game of cards or chess, he won! Jim's booming laugh was resounding and contagious, and he retained a childlike sense of wonder and magic, dreaming up adventures that gave his family a sense of celebration and purpose. To his nieces and nephews, Uncle Jim taught the magic of Santa with calls from the North Pole at Christmastime. A math genius offering tutoring sessions in Algebra, he also introduced them to the imaginary world of the Psnarfus and to the wonders of the Farckleberry. His parents, Warren and Edith Dawe and his sister, Jean G. Brake passed before him. He kept their legends alive in his stories. Left with a lifetime of memories is his resilient wife, Jeanette, his partner in all things. Jim treasured every single family member. Grateful for that love are his brothers-in-law Stan Brake and Allan MacDonald, sisters-in-law Marilyn (Vic Saccoccio), Melinda (Bill Coles) and Joan MacDonald (Tom Carey); his nephew Warren Brake (Jennifer Higgins); his nieces Katherine (Sean Fancey), Sabrina Saccoccio (Adam Brodie), Suzanne Carey (Peter MacDonald) and Jacqueline Carey; his great-nephews Matthew Fancey, Aaron and Jeremy Higgins-Brake, and Oliver and Jesse Carey MacDonald, and great-nieces Robin Fancey and Ruby Brodie Saccoccico. Cremation has taken place. Donations can be made in Jim`s name to the Joseph Brant Hospital, Palliative Care Unit.

WINTER, Anne (nee Hardy)
Born: May 20th, 1934
Passed on: June 13th, 2015

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Anne Winter announces her passing at her residence on Saturday June 13, 2015 at the age of 81 years. Anne was a child in wartime England: one of the child evacuees sent to the countryside to escape air raids. Her mother, Annie (Pippet) Hardy, worked through the war in a munitions factory while her dad, Walter, was away with the Coldstream Guards. After the war they ate for many years on a dining table blackened by an incendiary bomb. Anne was, like her father, fun-loving and festive; through war, serious times, and the hard work of making a new life with a young family in the North of England and then Newfoundland. She grew roses, primulas and a riot of exotic flowers in Corner Brook and at the Howley cabin; and with the same patience and loving care, she brought up her family with unconditional love. Early in the marriage she was interested in becoming Jehovah's Witness but was dissuaded. After the children grew up she resumed her dedication to that faith with full family support. Her three loves in life were her family, her Witness friends, and her garden. She leaves to mourn her loving husband Thomas Leo Winter, her children Kathleen (Jean), Paul (Lorena), and Michael (Christine); three grandchildren: Esther, Juliette, Leo; many friends and neighbours in Corner Brook. Friends may visit Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road on Wednesday June 17, 2015 between the hours of 7-9 pm. The funeral service will take place on Thursday June 18, 2015 from the Country Haven Funeral Home Chapel at 2 pm, officiated by Peter Philip with interment to follow at the Jehovah's Witness Cemetery, North Harbour Road, Pasadena. As expressions of sympathy flowers are graciously accepted or donations may be made in Anne's memory to the Western Memorial Regional Hospital Foundation.
