It is with great sadness that the family of the late Mildred Anstey announce her passing at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital on Thursday, June 7th, 2012 at the age of 78 years. She leaves to mourn her loving children, Jerry Anstey of Stephenville and her daughter, Madonna (Hardy) Greenham of Twilingate, NL, three sisters: Nellie Earl of Summerford, Ettie LeDrew of Gander, Rowena Penney of Ontario. Also leaving to mourn is her granddaughter, Candace and a large circle of relatives and friends. It is with great sadness that the family of the Late Robert Joseph Bennett announce his passing on June 27, 2012 at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville, NL at the age of 81 years. He leaves to mourn his children: Sylvia Gabriel, Raymond Sheppard, Marjorie Bennett (Gilbert), Odell Pittman (Edward), Shirley Bennett, Alexander Bennett, Sandra Hickey (Nicholas), Marina Bennett (Bradley); 14 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brother Richard Bennett (Noreen); sister Olive Chabot as well as a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Alexander & Gertrude Benoit; wife Susan, son Michael, grandson Joshua and brothers: Raymond, Ronald and Roy. Bert was just recently inducted into the Newfoundland and Labrador Hockey Hall of Fame, the Player category, and was due to receive the honor on June 9th, 2012. Leaving to mourn his ever devoted children: Lynn Brake, Lori Veitch (John), and Peter (Bobbie) Brake; daughter-in-law: Juanita Brake; three grandsons: Drew Hynes (Krista), Adam and David Brake; as well as many relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Isobel; son Bert Jr.; grandsons: Nathan and Shaun Brake; son-in-law: Ed Hynes; parents: Frederick and Melissa Brake; sister: Maxine and brothers: Frederick and Melbourne. Granting his wishes, cremation has taken place at Humber Valley Crematorium. Passed peacefully away on June 21, at James Peyton Memeorial Hospital in Gander, Theresa Marie Cashin (Dempsey) at age 78. After a long courageous battle with cancer, it is with great sadness that we have to say good bye to our Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Friend. Mabel peacefully passed into the arms of Jesus on Monday, June 18, 2012 with loving family by her side. Mabel will be lovingly remembered by her only daughter Veronica; her sons: Ray, Gary, Roy and their families; sisters, brothers, nineteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many loving friends. Chesley Gillam
of Corner Brook passed away peacefully June 27th, 2012 at home and surrounded by his loving family. He was 81 years old. He leaves to mourn Marie, his loving wife of 55 years, sons: Aaron (Donna), Jeff (Tara) and daughter Stephanie (Mark) Ellerker, grandchildren: Christopher, Mandy, Sarah, Kristen, Kaitlynn, Aidan, and Gillian, brother Melvin (Lucy), sister Ina (Earl) Dolter and predeceased by his father and mother (Hubert and Alma), brothers: Eric and Roy (Ruby). He also leaves a large circle of friends and extended family. He loved them all. Prior to his retirement he worked as a professional traveling salesman and was fortunate to meet and serve people from Western, Central and Northern Newfoundland & Labrador. He was well respected by his customers and colleagues. After retirement his love was spending time at the cabin in George's Lake with family and friends, woodworking and painting by numbers! City, one daughter Carol (Kevin) in Scotland, eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a large circle of relatives and friends. HOSKINS, Gladys
It is with great sadness that the family of Gladys Hoskins announce her passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Tuesday June 26, 2012 at the age of 87 years. Gladys was predeceased by her husband Samuel on February 18, 1987. She was born in Birmingham, England in 1925 and in 1946 immigrated to Canada as a War Bride with Samuel who served in the Merchant Navy during WWII. Before his passing both Samuel and Gladys enjoyed forty three years of marriage, and together they created a wonderful life while raising six children. Gladys will be sadly missed by her daughters: Pauline (Max) Crossley, Elaine (Wally) Simmons, Kathy (Glen) Norman, sons: John (Barb), Roy (Bernetta), Eric (Lynn), also 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. A special thank you to Doctor Griffin and the third floor nursing staff of Western Memorial Regional Hospital for their compassionate care during such a difficult time. The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the 2nd floor north and previously Good Samaritan Unit staff at the Corner Brook Long Term Care Facility for the past five years in which they cared for our Mom. Passed away with family beside her on Saturday, June 23rd, 2012. Born in Humbermouth, Corner Brook, NF, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Christina (Brewster) Smith, the second youngest of eight children. She began her career as a bookkeeper with Newfoundland Engineering and then Brookfield Ice Cream. Upon her marriage to Claude, she devoted her life to being a wife and mother, and was known for her superior culinary and sewing skills. She volunteered with the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Kidney Foundation, Corner Brook Interfaith Home, Victorian Order of Nurses, and Girl Guides Canada. She later enjoyed a successful career beginning with Sears Canada and The Western Star before joining the Provincial Court of Newfoundland, as Clerk of the Court and Justice of the Peace. She obtained her Business Administration Diploma from the Grenfell Campus of Memorial University of Newfoundland. Following retirement from the court, she was Chair for the Employment Insurance Board of Referees, sat on the Board of Regents of Memorial University, was a member of the Federal Seniors Advisory Committee on Tax Reform, sat on the Committee on Family Violence, was an active volunteer with the Newfoundland Liberal Party and was awarded the Queen's Jubilee Medal for outstanding volunteerism. In 2008 she relocated from Corner Brook to Halifax, NS, where she enjoyed several very happy years with family. Nancy was an independent and gifted woman, she was loved and will be greatly missed by her children, James (Shirley) of St. John's, NF; Catherine Kelly Reader, Raymond , Janice (Mike Hamilton) and Patricia (Charles) Pace, all of Halifax, NS; grandchildren Darleen Kelly (Mark Kennedy), Grayson Kelly, Dylan and Leigh Reader (Mike Chambers), Allyson Kelly, Jenny, Emily and Maria Shaw, Elizabeth and Alex Pace; great grandchildren Cameron and Hailey Chambers; and her brothers Donald and Thomas. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Claude, her siblings William, Ina (Chaffey), Elsa (Manovich), Lorna (Hansen), and George as well as her daughter-in-law Jo-Anne Kelly. Arrangements are under the direction of J.A. passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Friday, June 8, 2012 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, NS at the age of 79, following a struggle with cancer. Born in Dartmouth, NS on April 20, 1933, he was the son of the late Douglas and Geraldine (Whebby) Mills. A Staff Sgt. with the RCMP serving most of his career in Newfoundland and Labrador, he retired to Cambridge, NS in 1990. Gerry remained active during retirement through his involvement with Citizen's Patrol, tending his vegetable garden, travelling and spending time with his dogs. He valued all long-standing friendships as well as the relationships he built with his neighbours and those in the community. Gerry was always able to uncover a common connection with people he encountered. He often attributed the continued quality of his life to his participation in the fitness program for heart patients at the Valley Regional Hospital and for this, the family is grateful. He is survived by his wife, Helen (Furlotte) of Dalhousie, NB; sisters, Anna Howlett (Edward) of Corner Brook, NL; Claire Kariker (Dave) of Arkansas, USA; children, Sally (Colin) Goff, Peter (Sheila) and Pamela (Terry Boswell); grandchildren, Shane, Dana Marie, Brad, and Stacy; great grandchildren. Born in Lark Harbour on October 21, 1931 to the late Willoughby and Lillian (Mollon) Sheppard. Predeceased by his wife, Ruby (Barrett) in 1991 and brother, Garfield. Survived by sons: Randy (Victoria), Gillams, and Earl, Hamilton, Ontario, daughters: Lillian (Verdun) Darrigan, Gillams, Marilyn (Eugene) Gilliam, Corner Brook, Phyllis (Richard) Moase, Guelph, Ont., Tamara (Bill) Scheeringa, Kitchener, Ont., and Debora Sheppard (Tony Payne), Parsons Pond; sisters: Phyllis Gilbert, NB and Irene Sheppard, Deer Lake; several grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his Cape Breton family, special friend, Mae Mollon and her family. A memorial service will be held at St. James Anglican Church at 2 p.m. on June 30, 2012, with Rev. Nellie Thomas officiating. Interment to follow at the church cemetery. It is with great sadness that the family of Deborah Skinner (nee Delaney), announce her passing at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville, on June 5, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. Debbie leaves to mourn her husband Alan of 36 years; daughter Sabrina (Jamie) Hawkes and grandson Talan Hawkes; son Steven of Stephenville and daughter Sierra of St. John's. Debbie was born to Christina and the late Frederick Delaney of St. George's, NL, on July 25, 1955. She is sadly missed by Fred (Liz) Delaney of St. George's, Penny (Joe) Arruda of Brampton, Ontario; Sean (Loretta) Delaney of Meadows, NL; Cindy (Ron Anderson) Delaney of Meadows, NL; Paul (Lee) Delaney of Comox, BC; Fran (Dave) Lewis of Corner Brook, NL; Bill Delaney of Mississauga, Ontario; Nadine (Danny White) Delaney of St. George's, NL; and foster brother Randy (Susan Jensen) Young of Fort McMurray, AB. She dedicated many years of her life to volunteerism, notably with the local and provincial branches of Girl Guides of Canada and Civil Air Search and Rescue. She loved to cook, knit and crochet, but she also enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid camper and salmon fisher. Cremation has taken place, at Debbie's request. A private memorial will be held. The family request that in lieu of gifts of sympathy, donations be made in Debbie's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or local Relay for Life cancer fundraiser.
Debbie had a smile and a laugh that was infectious to those around her. She loved life, and her family. To say that she will be missed would be a great understatement. We love you.

It is with heavy hearts and much sorrow, the family of the late Don Urquhart wish to announce his peaceful passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, Corner Brook NL, on June 29, 2012, in his 64th year. Don was born in Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, July 20th, 1947. He was the only son of the late John and Annie (McKay Urquhart. A staff Sgt. with the R.C.M.P. Don spent his entire career in B Division, Newfoundland and Labrador. He retired as Section NCO, Corner Brook detachment in 1993. Don loved to salmon fish on the Humber River and Lomond River and spent as much time as possible at his cabin on Little Bonne Bay Pond. He is surrived by his wife and best friend of 44 years Beverley (Simmonds) Steady Brook, NL, his beloved children Craig Urquhart (Krista) Deer Lake, NL, Cathy (John) Seitz, Stratford, Wisconsin, His precious grandchildren, who were the joy of his life and made his life truly worth living; Brett, James and Sophie Urquhart, Zack, John, and Olivia Seitz, Sisters in law Peggy Best (fiancé Eric Young) Corner Brook, NL, Jean (Wilson) Penney Pasadena, NL, Brenda (Tony) Howell Mount Pearl, NL, Janice Simmonds Mount Pearl, NL Brother in law Bill Simmonds (fiancée Faye Gear) Embree, NL, special Uncle John (Vera) McKay, Sydney River, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, also many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. WILLIAMS, Bronson Claude
Passed away peacefully at the Corner Brook Long Term Care Facility, Bronson Williams, age 83, surrounded by his loving family after a brave battle with Parkinsons. Born and raised in Cards Harbour, Notre Dame Bay, he moved to Deer Lake in 1957 with his wife Beryl (nee Roberts), where they spent the next 55 years and raised their nine children. Pre-deceased by his parents D.J and Annie Belle Williams, brother Cyril and son Lloyd. He will be dearly missed by his loving wife Beryl, children: Yvonne (Bruce), Nina Hall, Ted (Sheila), Vaden (Joyce), Sharon (Calvin), Judy (John), Elizabeth (Paul), Dana (Helena), Peter (Irene), siblings: Ethel Crews, Gertie (Roger), Howard (Jean), Violet (Cecil), Bruce (Maisie), Christine (Clarence), Peggy (Winston) and sister-in-law Lulu. Pop was a devoted and loving grandfather to 17 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Friends and family will be received at Fillatres Funeral Home on Friday, June 29th at 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Saturday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. from Emmanuel Pentecostal Church Bennett's Avenue from where the funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 1st 2012 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Peter Grimes officiating.
