A True Story of a Real Man
Who in the end held
his family together
As only a real man can.
My husband, a man with poise.
You were a father, Grandfather,
Son, Grandson
Uncle , Cousin and Friend.
The Epitome of a real man
You will be forever with us as you continue the next cycle of your life! A celebration of Calvin’s Life will be held at his home in Parson’s Pond, NL with a private service by his family. Parson’s Funeral Home in Deer Lake is handling the arrangements with the internment in the Gospel Hall Cemetery in Daniel’s Harbour on Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 4 PM.
When health is absent,
Wisdom cannot reveal itself,
Art cannot become manifest,
Strength cannot be exerted,
Wealth becomes useless,
And reason is powerless.

Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road,
To sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We all were meant to
learn some things,
But never meant to stay...
Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know,
For some the journey's quicker,
For some the journey's slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
We'll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the Lord

TUMA, Elias Simon
Corner Brook, NL
Elias Simon Tuma
, born on Belle Island, Newfoundland, January 20, 1910. Passed peacefully at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on June 29, 2008, after a brief illness, he was 98 years old. He is survived by his son Jeff and daughter-in-law Eileen (nee Lewis), his son Corey, his sister Nora Alteen, his niece Judy Neville (nee Alteen), brother Jim and numerous nieces and nephews. Elias was predeceased by his much loved wife Wadea and his beloved grand-daughter Danielle. Elias was born on Belle Island and the family moved to Corner Brook in 1921.They were among the first to witness the pulp and paper being built. In 1937 Elias moved back to Belle Island as the mines were in full swing due to the demands of the Second World War. He set up shop with $1.75, a great deal of ambition, a keen business sense and the talent of a fine jeweller and watch maker. After a few years he moved to Stephenville and opened up a shop there. His father passed away in 1944 and he took over the family business, S.E. Tuma Ltd in Corner Brook. In 1945 he married Wadea Kouri and enjoyed 59 years of marriage before her passing. His son Jeff came along in 1968 and Corey in 1970. His family prided him as a good father and husband. As business improved and grew over the years so did the number of friends and colleagues that he established a lifelong relationship with. His reputation as a fair and honest business man earned him the respect of fisherman in the tiny outports of Newfoundland to Premieres of the Province. Outside of working exceedingly long hours each day, he had many interests. Of all of his interests, hockey was an enjoyment to him his whole life. He was the treasurer for the Corner Brook Royals in the late 60's and was inducted into the Nfld. and Labrador Hockey Hall of Fame for years of outstanding support. He was well travelled, self taught and had an appetite for knowledge; he had a keen interest in all subjects and cited geography as one of his hobbies. It wasn’t until 2005, well beyond the age that most retire, that he finally closed up shop and retired to Lark Harbour at the Guardian Angels Nursing Home to enjoy some well deserved relaxation. Elias will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 29th at 2:00 p.m. from St. John the Evangelist Anglican Cathedral, followed by burial at the Townsite Cemetery, Montgomery Street. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Guardian Angels Nursing Home in Lark Harbour. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home.
