It is with great sadness that the family of the late Sandra Katherine Hashem announce her passing at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at the age of 60 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her best friend and partner, Marie White, Barachois Brook; daughter, Anissa (Peter) Hashem, Oregon; son, Sharif (Jennifer) Hashem, Ontario; grandchild, Isabel Hashem, Ontario; sister, Laurian (Henry) Hancock, as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Lauri Narvanen and Stella Halischuk; stepfather, Fred Kostner. By request, cremation has taken place at the Humber Valley Crematorium. A memorial service will take place on Friday, June 1, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. from Fillatre Funeral Home on West Street in Stephenville Crossing with Rev. Karen Laldin officiating. Interment will follow in her hometown of Thunder Bay, ON at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Passed peacefully away on March 6, 2007, Stella F. Messervey, age 91 years. Beloved wife of the late Albert Messervey. Leaving to mourn, children: Marina (Jim), Jean (Ken), Yvonne (Al), Cavell (Dennis), Gladys (Lorne), Albert Jr. (Madeline), Ena (Dave), Odell (Hubert) and Karen (Cyril); 22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; brother, Edward Curran and special friends, Mrs. Mary Boland and Mrs. Violet Hall. Waiting to welcome her home: daughter, Verlie and son, Gary. The funeral service will take place on Friday, June 8, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in St. George’s, with Father Gerard Patry officiating. Interment will follow at the Anglican Cemetery in St. George’s. Family will be receiving friends at the Senior Citizens Club in St. George’s following interment. All are welcome. Died April 30, 2007

Passed away peacefully in Barrie, Ontario, April 30, 2007 in her 81st year. Beloved wife of the late Robert Renouf, formerly of Deer Lake. Lillian is survived by her children Roy, Joan, Linda, Gary, and Laura; as well as her 6 grand-children and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Brampton, Ontario and Lillian was interred with her husband at Brampton Memorial Gardens.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her three children: Ian (Mary) Stewart, Ramea, Jill Stewart-Rose (Wayne), Corner Brook and Angus (Maxine) Stewart, Ramea; grandchildren: Krista (Shawn) Scott, Jonathan Stewart (fiancee, Kayley), Katherine Rose and Geoffrey (Penny) Stewart; two great grandchildren: Gabrielle and Leah Scott; one sister: Cynthia Stevens, England; brother-in-law: David (Kay) Stewart, England, as well as large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and many wonderful friends. It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of George Thomas Murphy, of 22 Caroline Street, Trenton. In the loving arms of his wife of 46 years, George passed peacefully on Sunday, June 10, 2007 in the Palliative Care Unit in the Aberdeen Hospital. Born in Pasadena, NL, September 19, 1932, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Sarah (Duncan) Murphy. George was always happy to lend a hand to anyone and gave everything he ever had to his family and friends. He was happiest when he was in the company of his beloved grandchildren. They always made him smile.
In his early years, he served in the RCAF as an engineer mechanic and then moved on to the Eastern Provincial Airways. George then owned and operated his own business in Pasadena until moving to Trenton.
George leaves behind his wife Myra (Pelley) Murphy, Trenton; sons: Dean (Stacey), New Glasgow; Dale, French River; Danny (Debbie), Stellarton; Darin, Milford, NS; Dwayne, Alberta; daughters: Joanne (George) Russell, Fort St. John, BC; Tina (Tony) Nixon, Edmonton, Alberta; grandchildren: Jeffrey and Jenelle, Devin, Connor and Dawson, Justin, Sabrina and Dylan, Megan and Thomas; chosen granddaughter Shannon; sisters: Loretta Foote, Madeline Whiffen and Phyllis Whalen, Pasadena, NL; Helen (Bill) Stentaford, Deer Lake, NL; brother: Jerry (Flo) Murphy, Pasadena, NL; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews and good friends. Born on Woods Island, Bay of Islands, 9 June 1915 to John Pennell and Mary Ellen Barnes and married to John Anthony in 1937. She embarked on many moves throughout her career with the Newfoundland Government. Predeceased by her parents: brother; Les Pennell, and husband John. Survived and sadly missed by her only daughter Linda, husband Ron Blank, granddaughter Deborah, great-granddaughter Kalia, in Nanaimo, and special family and friends in Newfoundland. Elsie, also known as Mary, moved to Nanaimo in 2002. Her constant companion Sam Shihtsu will sorely miss her treats and company. She kept busy: sometime babysitter for Kalia, knitted 200 caps for newborns and blankets for the Nanaimo Hospital and an avid reader. Although Elsie enjoyed the weather in Nanaimo, her heart will always be in Newfoundland. She eagerly awaited her Western Star. Elsie appreciated the frequent updates from Lavinia and Emmaline. A special good-bye to childhood friend Angeline. No flowers, please. Donations appreciated to the O’Connell Centre, DVA Unit. Remembrance held in Nanaimo. Anita Violet Chipman (Hunter)
of Calgary, AB passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at the age of 59 years, surrounded, comforted and supported by her family. Anita is survived by her loving husband Lloyd; children Sylvia Taylor (Kirk), Frances Joncic (John), and Stewart Chipman (Natasha); mother Lily Hunter, brother Rex Hunter (Dorothy) and sister Sandra Hardy; her six cherished grandchildren – Sadie, Genavieve, Maeve and Delia Joncic and Hazel and Tessa Taylor. She also leaves to mourn many other family members and friends. Anita was predeceased by her father Thomas Hunter, her brother-in-law Reg Hardy and her special niece Sandy Hunter.
Anita was born in Salvage, NF and arrived in Calgary in August 1969 to marry Lloyd. She proudly raised her three children until they had all entered school after which she decided to continue her dental career. Anita was employed by Drs. Peter Chan and Paul Chow until she was diagnosed with cancer in the summer of 2000. She spent her remaining years loving her family (particularly her grandchildren), and enjoying her wonderful friends. Anita was under the compassionate care of Dr. Karen Valentine and the “Medical Daycare” Staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre. Her family would like to thank her many friends who supported her with telephone calls and visits during Anita’s difficult time. A special thank you goes out to Dr. Karen Valentine and her staff, as well as Isabella Vandal, caregiver. Passed peacefully away at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook on Tuesday, June 19th, 2007 in his 80th year, Powellus Ray Butler. He was born May 2nd, 1927 to Margaret and George Butler. Powellus worked most of his life as a fisherman and a carpenter. He had great friends and family members whom he loved dearly. He would always light up everyone’s day with his humor and charm. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He has left to mourn four sons: James (Marilyn), Donald, Malcolm (Pauline) and Benjamin (Jenetta); four daughters: Brenda (Christopher), Connie (Ira), Debbie (boyfriend Kenny) and Trudy; 23 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brother, George (Jenetta); sisters: Ivy (Harvey) and Classie; also favorite nephew, Claude; along with a large number of family and friends. She had been living in Riverview/Moncton for the past six years. Born in Clarenville, she was the daughter of the late B. Ronald and Nellie F. (Churchill) Blackmore. After leaving Memorial University, Ruby passionately taught Elementary School in Belle Island and Corner Brook, for 30 years. Upon her retirement from the Newfoundland Teachers Association in June 1975, she became a dedicated volunteer of the Western Memorial Hospital Auxiliary until her move to Moncton in 2000. She was a member of St. Philip’s Anglican Church, Moncton and St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, Corner Brook. Ruby will be sadly missed by her daughter Karen VanIderstine (Paul), Moncton; the loves of her life, her grandchildren Meghan, Todd and Kelly, Moncton; brother Walter Blackmore, NL; sister Eleanor Prieser, Florida; sisters-in-law: Kay Blackmore, Alberta, Annie Webb, Massachusetts. Today we mourn the passing of a beautiful lady. Together we celebrate her life. On Friday, June 22nd, 2007 Rosaleen Walsh (nee Byrne) peacefully passed away at the age of 72 years, in her home, surrounded by her loving family. Rosaleen leaves to mourn her husband James and her 11 children: Brian Walsh, Joanne Brake (Wayne), Rosalind McCarthy (Brent), Jim Walsh (Sandra), Paul Walsh, Maxine Tapp, Sean Walsh, Wayne Walsh, Tony Walsh, Michelle Walsh (Murray) and Trudy Walsh (Robert). It is with great sadness that the family of the late Winnie Hutchings announce her passing on Thursday, June 28th, 2007 at the Bonne Bay Hospital in her 67th year. She will be sadly missed by her two sons, David (Susan) and Robert (Doris) both of Brampton, Ontario, one daughter Colleen (Dwayne) White of Rocky Harbour, six grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Robyn, Brittany, David and Kelly, one brother Charlie (Nellie) of Rocky Harbour, brother-in-law Marvin Leawood of New Chelsea, sisters, Geneva (Terry) Wight of Rocky Harbour, Bess (Bill) Kennedy of Norris Point, Bertha (Robert) Young of New Chelsea, Susan (Jim) Wight of Brampton, Ontario, Christine (Jim) Welsh of Rocky Harbour. Also a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Frailen, parents Chesley and Violet, sister Annie, niece Marina, great-nephew Brandon, mother and father-in-law Seymore and Moriah Hutchings. Visitation will take place from St. Matthews Anglican Church in Rocky Harbour today Saturday and Sunday where also funeral services will take place on Monday, July 2nd, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Canon Olsson officiating with the interment to follow at the family plot. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his loving wife Joan (nee Maynard) of 54 years; his children that he adored: Susan (Bill) Priestly, Smithville, Ont., Eric (Eileen), Bracebridge, Ont., Don (Diane), Welland, Ont., Mark (Leslie), Oakville, Ont., Mike (Dianne), Burlington, Ont., Sonja, Cormack, Bill (Gail), Burlington, Ont., and Gord (Heidi), Oakville, Ont., his treasured grandchildren: Douglas, Thomas, Krithia, Vanessa, Aindrea, Joel, Rebecca (Matthew) Eusey, Carrie-Lyn, Robert, Trevor, Patrick, Amanda, Kyle, Ryan, Blair, Carly, Thomas, David, Mark, Amy, Tyler, Mitchell, Aaron, Nolan and Ethan, sisters and brothers: Dorothy Boyle, Grand Falls - Windsor, Sister Mary McHugh, St. John, NB, Edward (Aggie), New Brunswick and Eric (Betty), Grand Falls - Windsor, sister-in-law Mary E. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, July 2nd at 2:00 PM from the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer, Mount Bernard Avenue with Father Ambrose Hynes officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. HARVEY, RITA (nee PUMPHREY)
1920 - 2007

Passed peacefully away in Toronto, Rita Harvey (Pumphrey) on June 27, 2007. Leaving to mourn her husband Chester Harvey and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents John and Anastasia Pumphrey, brother Michael F. Pumphrey and sisters Patricia MacInnis, Ellen Power and Elizabeth Gillis. Funeral Mass took place at St. Andrews Church in Rexdale on June 29, 2007 followed by cremation.

DELANEY, JENNA MARIE
Age 20 years

It is with great sadness we acknowledge the passing of Jenna Marie Delaney on June 28, 2007 at her home in Truro, Nova Scotia after a courageous battle with cancer. Jenna was born November 3, 1986 in Stephenville, Newfoundland to Brian and Jean (Perrier) Delaney. Jenna graduated from CEC High School in Truro, Nova Scotia in 2005 with Honors with Distinction. She received several scholarships, including the prestigious Canadian Millennium Scholarship recognizing her significant scholastic achievements as well as her leadership and contribution to the community. She was Student Council President at CEC in 2004-2005. She completed one year at St. Francis Xavier University and was working for the University in physics research when she became ill. Jenna was very passionate about the Arts, and was a regular participant at the Truro Music Festival where she won numerous awards including the Caldwell-Roach Shield and Festival Award for Best Solo in Musical Theatre. She was chosen to represent Truro in the Provincial Music Festival where she was the provincial winner for Musical Theatre. Jenna achieved Grade 8 Honors in the Royal Conservatory of Music in voice. She sang for many charitable events including Christmas Daddies in 1994 and the local Arthritis Telethon. She was a member of the Truro Figure Skating Club and excelled in her artistic ability winning the Margo Anderson memorial award for Outstanding Artistic Skate. She was an active dancer in Nova Scotia having competed in numerous provincial competitions and attained her BATD qualification as a dance instructor. She was a member and choreographer of the St. Francis Xavier Dance Team and was teaching dance to a junior dance team at the time of her illness. She performed for three years in the annual CEC musicals, including the lead role in a memorable performance of “A Chorus Line” in her grade 12 year. Jenna was an outstanding person in every way and touched the lives of so many in her very short but fulfilling life. Her memory will live on forever in our hearts. Jenna is survived by her parents, Brian and Jean (Perrier) Delaney; brothers, Briant and Colin; sister, Catherine; grandparents, Jerome and Marie Delaney, Stephenville, Newfoundland and Edward and Marie Perrier, St. George’s, Newfoundland as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and very close friends to numerous to mention. Visitation will be held at Immaculate Conception Church, 669 Prince St., Truro on Sunday July 1, 2007 from 2-4 & 7-8 pm followed by a very special celebration of Jenna’s life including a prayer service, music and words of remembrance at 8 pm at the church. The funeral will take place the following day on Monday, July 2, 2007 at 11:00 am at the same location followed by a reception in Campbell Hall in the church. There will be a private burial on Tuesday, July 3, 2007. A memorial service will take place in Stephenville, Newfoundland at St. Stephen’s Church on Monday, July 2, 2007 at 11:00 am followed by a reception at the Knights of Columbus Club. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Colchester Regional Hospital or the Canadian Cancer Society/Foundation of your choice would be appreciated.
