It is with great sadness that the family of the late Russell Webb announce his passing on Saturday, May 25, 2002 at the Bonne Bay Health Centre in Norris Point at the age of 86 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his sister Bridget Cahill of Peabody, Mass. Nieces and nephews: William (Betty) Cullen, Thomas Hemsworth, Peter Webb, Henry (Iris) Webb, Ignatius (Gladys) Lee, Anne (Terry) McNeil, Joan (Guy) Penny, Henry (Darlene) Lee, Susanna Lee, Mary Lee, James (Ann) Lee, Aubrey (Susan) Lee, Leo (Yvonne) Lee and Lawrence (Karen) Lee. As well as a large circle of friends. Visitation took place at St. Patrick's Hall, Winter House Brook, Monday from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 28th at 2:00 p.m. with sister Claudette Gallant officiating. Interment followed at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Woody Point. As expressions of sympathy flowers graciously accepted or donations may be made to St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, 10 Clinic Drive, Deer Lake.

MUSSEAU, Howard Edwin

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Howard Musseau announce his sudden but peaceful passing Friday, May 31st, at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, in his 67th year. Predeceased by his wife Patricia May 1st, 1986. Leaving to mourn son Jim (Michelle) in Moncton, New Brunswick, daughter Karen Colbourne (Gerald) of Corner Brook and son Keith (Nicole) in St. John's, one grandson Christopher Colbourne, one sister Dolly Doyle (Ron), brothers Reg Musseau (Minnie) and Gerald Musseau (Anna), all of Port aux Basques, as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. Visitation will take place at Fillatre's Funeral Home, St. Mark's Avenue, today from 2-4 P.M. and 7 P.M. and on Sunday morning from 10 A.M. until Noon. The funeral service will take place on Sunday, June 2nd at 2:30 P.M. from the United Church on Park Street with interment at Mount Patricia Cemetery. Flowers or donations to the United Church Restoration Fund gratefully accepted.

Passed away Friday, May 31st, 2002 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, JOHN HENRY MURRIN at the age of 78. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 55 years, Doreen Murrin; 7 children: Elaine Sheppard (Wayne), Marie Park (Howard), Ira Murrin (Beatrice), Claude Murrin (Lee-Ann), June Park (Wade), Malcolm Murrin (Anita), Pamela Murrin; daughter-in-law Hazel Murrin; 16 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren; brothers: William Murrin, Lark Harbour, Raymond Murrin (Sadie), British Columbia; sister June Quehe (Dave), Ontario; sister-in-law Ena Murrin, British Columbia; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents James and Annie Murrin, brothers: Clyde and Robert, son Samuel, September 2000. The funeral service will be held Monday, June 3rd at 2:00 p.m. from St. James Anglican Church, Lark Harbour, Reverend Evelyn Piercey officiating, followed by the interment at the church cemetery. Visitation was held at the church on Sunday. Passed away Sunday, June 2, 2002 at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre, Barbara Neil, at the age of 55. Barbara was predeceased by her father Arthur Targett, April 25, 1998. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends whom she has touched. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Beulah Evelyn Hulan announce her passing at the Elisabeth Bruyere Health Centre in Ottawa on Friday, May 31, 2002 at the age of 86 years. Beloved wife of the late Allan Hulan and loving mother of Godden (Anna), Evelyn Parsons (Levester), Nina Marshall and the late Lowell Hulan (Lucie). Dear grandmother of 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Verena Chaffey. She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her many friends at Asher Place. Funeral Service will take place on Friday, June 7th at 2:00 p.m. from St. George's Anglican Church in Robinsons with interment in the Anglican Cemetery in Robinsons. St. Thomas, Ontario (Formerly of Petites, NF)

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Rendell Andrew (Ren) Strickland announce his passing at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital in St. Thomas, Ontario on Saturday, June 1, 2002 at the age of 84 years. Son of the late Henry and Sarah (Harris) Strickland and loved brother of Irene Collins of Kippens; Eric Strickland of Port aux Basques and Charles Strickland of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia and the late Allen Strickland. Sadly missed by several nieces and nephews. Ren was born in Rose Blanche, NF on August 4, 1917. He worked a number of years at Canron. Friends may call at Russell's Funeral Home, 39 Queen Street, Stephenville on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Friday, June 7th at 10:30 a.m. from St. Augustine's Anglican Church, Hillview Avenue, Stephenville with interment in the Hillside Interfaith Cemetery, Hansen Highway, Stephenville. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Jemma Elizabeth announce her passing on Wednesday, June 5th, 2002 at the Personal Care Home in Cow Head in her 86th year. She leaves to mourn husband Donald Bennett, three brothers: Dave (Edna) Payne, Winston (Jessie) Payne, and George Payne all of Cow Head. Her sister-in-law Evangeline Payne of Corner Brook. Also her step-sons: Graham (Lorraine) Bennett of Brampton, Ontario, Curtis (Mae) Bennett of Rocky Harbour, Bernard (Daisy) Bennett of Cox's Cove and Ralph Bennett of St. Paul's. One step-daughter Irene (Foster) Payne of Cow Head. Special step-grandson Wilson Bennett of Brampton, Ontario. Also a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and the staff and residents at the Personal Care Home. She was predeceased by her two husbands, Bill Payne of Rocky Harbour and Charlie Payne of Cow Head, six children, sister Ellen Shears, brothers Edward, Albert, Leonard, and Garfield and her parents Grant and Ester Payne. Mother in law Phyllis Langer. 10 brothers Cator (Bernice) of Glovertown, Marshall (Kay) of Trinity Bonavista Bay, Art (Mary), Harry (Lillian) both of Churchill Falls, Wilfred (Linda) of Labrador City, Roland (Joyce) of Hare Bay, Percy (Rose) of Trinity Bonavista Bay, Jake (Annie) of Centreville, Victor (Daphne) of Trinity Bonavista Bay, and Sam (Ida) of Ontario. Three sisters Jessie (Zacchaues) Rogers of Trinity Bonavista Bay, Myrtle (Cecil) Cochrane of Churchill Falls, and Edna (Don) Pilgrim of Goose Bay. Lena was predeceased by her husband Alfred, September 14, 1961; two sons: Melvin and Wilfred; daughters: Vivian and Beatrice; sons-in-law: Gibson Sparkes and Clauson Murley. She will be sadly missed by six sons: Allan, Bernard, Maurice, Arch, Jordan, Ron and six daughters: Lori, Joyce, Hilda, Mary, Joan and Margaret and one sister, Mary Felix and 22 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. Visitation will take place at her residence in Lourdes on Monday. Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, June 11th at 11:00 a.m. from Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Lourdes with interment in the Roman Catholic Cemetery in West Bay. It is with great sadness that we wish to inform friends and family that Philip Hackett passed away peacefully at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital on Thursday, June 27, 2002. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Catherine and his children Danielle (Craig) Lush of Nova Scotia, Scott Hackett of Stephenville and Christa (Mike) Philpott of Stephenville and his grandchildren: Nathan, Jessica, Emily and Benjamin; his mother Victoria Hackett of Pasadena and his sisters and brothers, along with a large circle of relatives and friends. Passed gently from our hands into God's at 1:30 a.m. June 28th, 2002. Leaving to mourn daughters: Beth Golia (Michael), Lethbridge, Alberta, Nancy Carberry (Fred), Corner Brook and her son Bill Howell (Clytie), Prince George, British Columbia; dear sisters: Jean Taylor, St. John's, Ada Simms, Clarke's Beach, Val Taylor (Dave), London, Ontario and stepmother Dolly Simms, Lewisporte; grandchildren; John and Nancy Carberry, Gail Vangool (Stanley), Jean Perks (Jim); great-grandchildren: Anna, Mary, Sarah; and a wide circle of dear and caring friends. She was predeceased by her husband Jim Howell, 1989, granddaughter Robin Carberry, 1982. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary Drake and two brothers: Patrick and Henry J. Drake. Friends may call at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Lourdes on Saturday (after 2:00 P.M.) and Sunday. Funeral services will take place on Monday, July 1st at 2:00 P.M. from Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Lourdes with Interment in the Roman Catholic Cemetery in West Bay. DION-COOKE, Ann (Molly)
March 7, 1910 - June 25, 2002

Passed peacefully away on June 25th in Quebec City, P.Q. Ann Dion (Cooke), eldest child of the late James and Mary Cooke. She leaves to mourn two daughters: Monique Leblanc (Maurice) and Janice Brennan of Charlesbourg, Quebec; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one sister Lucy Garfunkel of Nassau, Bahamas and one brother Gerald F. Cooke of Corner Brook. She is predeceased by her husband Leon and daughter Carole, brothers: Donald, James and John Cooke. Cremation will take place, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial in Quebec City, P.Q. on Saturday, July 6th at 11:00 a.m.

BALFOUR, Charles Robert (Rory)
Passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2002 at the Civic Hospital surrounded by his family in his 84th year. Son of the late Col/W.M. Balfour DSO OBE and Grace Jardine Balfour MBE who moved to California in 1946 from Corner Brook, NF. Major Balfour, CD joined the Canadian Survey Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery in Montreal in November 1939. He was an Honour graduate of Corner Brook Public School in 1936. He completed his apprenticeship as a surveyor draftsman in the Bowaters Papermill Engineering Department before leaving to volunteer in Montreal. He served 5 years in the Canadian Army; overseas in England, landing in Normandy, participating in Falaise, the campaign in Holland, the crossing of the Rhine and in the occupation of Germany. After the war he continued his service at many postings in Canada, the Pentagon in Washington, Vietnam and at National Defense Headquarters in Ottawa. Following his retirement from the Artillery in 1968 he served as Executive Secretary Treasurer with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires at their National Headquarters in Ottawa. He is predeceased by his first wife Jean (Morey) of Deer Lake, NF in 1971. He is survived by his loving wife Elsie (Fletcher) Balfour, his children L'Col Robert Morey Balfour, David Walter and Danielle Balfour, Captain Virginia Lee Balfour, Ian Craig Balfour; his grandchildren: Andrew and Jennifer and their mother Betty Ann Roe, Emily and her mother Mary Balfour, and David and Danielle's children Michèle and Natalie McGarry-Balfour, all residing in Ottawa. Also survived by his sisters Grace Brooking Mann RN and Willard Mann of Birmingham, Alabama, Margaret Marchant RN of Modesto, California and sister-in-law Marjorie (Morey) and Jim Young of Toronto. He will be also missed by Elsie's family: Mrs. Orla (Bill) Fletcher, Isobel and John Thon, Jack and Doris Fletcher, Clara Webb, Lila Sinfield, Ernest and Ruth Fletcher, Bert and Shirley Fletcher, Clifford Fletcher, Monique Fletcher, Stu and Bev Fletcher, and their children and grandchildren. Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street, Ottawa on Sunday, June 30 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and Monday, July 1 from 10 a.m. until service in the chapel at 1 p.m. Officiating, Reverend Mary-Elsie Fletcher Wolf. Cremation and interment at Beechwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
