It is with great sorrow the family of Frazer G. Allen announce his sudden passing on Friday, May 16th, 2014 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 72. Left to mourn with fond and loving memories, his wife of 45 years Patricia; children: Michelle Babstock (Darryl), Eastport, Tracy Ellsworth (Barry), Happy Valley Goose Bay, Kent Allen (Jennie), Mt. Moriah; grandchildren: Heather (Daniel), Andrew, Bradley, Matthew and Kendra; great-granddaughter Hailey; brothers: Sam (Gertrude), Floyd (Valda), Eric (Joyce); sisters: Lorena Monette (Don), Ann Davies (Herb), Eva Allen; brothers and sisters-in-law: Alf Turner (Judy), Jake Turner (Gail), Carl Turner; as well as a large number of nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. BALSOM Jr., Raymond Eli
Passed peacefully away at St. Luke's Home on Friday, May 23, 2014, Raymond Eli Balsom Jr., age 63 years. Left to mourn his wife, Colleen (nee Mosher) of Corner Brook; his parents Raymond M. and Joan Balsom, Mount Pearl; brother Sherman of Corner Brook; sister Denise Dinn (Joseph) of Chamberlains; nephews: Ryan Dinn (Crystal), Jordan Dinn (Lacey), and Denis Balsom; as well as a large number of relatives and friends. Visitation was held at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, on Saturday, May 24, from 7-9 p.m. and on Sunday, May 25, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service did take place from the Salvation Army Citadel, Adams Avenue, on Monday, May 26, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. with interment following at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Blackmarsh Road Columbarium. BENNETT, Brandon
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Brandon Bennett announce his passing on Wednesday, May 21st, 2014 at the age of 17 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his parents Kevin and Susan. His three brothers: Gordon in Stephenville Crossing, Christopher (Heather) in Corner Brook, Kevin Jr. (Christy) in Stephenville Crossing, one sister Dianna in Stephenville Crossing. Also leaving to mourn are his grandparents Melvin Campbell, Lavern Bennett, Penny Blake, his nieces and nephews: Jaden, Riley, Veronica, Heidi, Alexis, Maximus, Kaylee and Kloee. BENNETT, Geraldine Anne (Gerry)

Passed on: May 19th, 2014

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Geraldine Bennett announce her sudden passing on Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Western Memorial Hospital in her 90th year. She leaves to mourn her sons; Gerard (Loretta), Ken (Sharon), Carl (Diane) all of Corner Brook, Jerome (Doreen) of Meadows, Donald (Debbie) of Kitchener ON, Gary of Edmonton, AB, one daughter Madonna Matthews (Tim) of Corner Brook with whom she resided. She was loved by and will be missed by her 20 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Brothers: Tom (Vera) of New Brunswick, Francis (Juanita) of Codroy Valley, Joe (Bernice) of Nova Scotia. Sisters: Rita Reed (Larry) of Ohio, Rosanne Faykos of Lab City, Sister-in-law Delores Bennett of ON as well as many relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Edward in March 2010, parents Wallace and Clara Bennett, brothers: Charlie, Leo, Tommy, Paul Joseph and beloved grandson Phillip. Visitation will be held at Fillatre's Funeral Home Tuesday from 7-9 and Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at Sacred Heart Parish on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Maurice O'Quinn officiating. BLANCHARD, Ted A.
Passed peacefully away at the Palliative Care Unit, Miller Centre on May 22, 2014, Ted Blanchard, age 84. Predeceased by his mother, Gertrude Blanchard, and his first wife, Joyce Blanchard. Left with fond and loving memories, his wife Maureen Buckle, sons: Ted (Phoebe Bartlett), Paul (Julie Cork), Newmarket, ON, Craig (friend Pauline Jensen), Dave (Sing Lee), daughter Kimberley (Steve Peddle), grandchildren: Teddy, Mark, Kathryn and Michelle Blanchard; Rachelle Cork, Jake and Matt Blanchard; Allison Blanchard and her mother Susan; Josh and Luke Peddle and many other relatives and friends. Ted was a well known musician, rower, labor mediator and politician. As a provincial public servant he was the chief negotiator for the Treasury Board and led the Department of Labour as the Asst. Deputy Minister, Deputy Minister and ultimately Minister of Labour (MHA Bay of Islands District 1985-1989). He was also very involved with the Royal St. John's Regatta as a committee member, rower, coxswain and coach. As well, Ted was an accomplished musician playing on radio since the 1950's (Saturday Night Jamboree and Happy Valley Gang), television (All Around The Circle) and was a member of many musical groups including The Three Strings and Crooked Stove Pipe. He also volunteered his fiddling talents at seniors residences throughout St. John's for 25 years. As such he was recognized by the Folk Arts Council with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd with visitation on Saturday, May 24 from 1-5 p.m. and Sunday, May 25 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Anglican Cathedral. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Forest Rd. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in his memory may be made to the Lung Association NL. BLOIS, RN, Margaret "Babs"
It is with extreme sadness that we announce the death of Margaret "Babs" Blois RN. She died in her sleep in the early hours of Wednesday, May 14th, 2014 at the age of 69. Babs was born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland on May 9th, 1945. She was the fourth Child of Captain Archie and Margaret Mackinnon. When Babs finished school in Corner Brook she completed her education at Edgehill in Windsor, Nova Scotia. Babs then attended the General Hospital of nursing in St. John's, Newfoundland. After graduating she worked as a nurse and taught at the Corner Brook Nursing School. Well known for her sense of humour and love of life there was always a good feeling in the air when Babs was around. Babs and Don Blois married in 1976 in St. John's, Newfoundland and later moved to Nova Scotia. She worked at the Abbie Lane Hospital involved in psychiatry in a position she loved. Unfortunately her life was affected with reparatory and health problems affecting the immune system having worked in a building known as the "bad building syndrome". Babs and Don loved boating and as Don had his pilot's licence Babs took flying lessons. Babs was predeceased by her parents and her brother John. She leaves family and friends with memories of a selfless, fun filled person who was always looking to help others before herself. She worked tirelessly for the St. Margaret's Bay and Area Association for the Community Living to provide weekly programs and outings for the mentally challenged. On her mother's passing her sister "Tiny" Maureen Mackinnon came to live with Babs and Don. Tiny is mentally challenged with Turners Syndrome. Babs leaves to mourn her husband Don, beloved sister Tiny and sister Sheilah Mackinnon Drover; sisters-in-law Betty Mackinnon and Rev. Janet Blois; nephews Michael (Susan) Drover, Jon (Laura Casey) Drover, Ian Mackinnon, Stephen Mackinnon and Davis Blois. Nieces Judith Drover Janes (Craig) Jill (Aaron) Collier; Sheilah (Mark) Mackinnon, Barbara Jean (Rev. Jim) McNaughton, Susan (Dana) Blois. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 20th, 2014 from 7:00 to 9:00 pm and memorial service on Wednesday, May 21st, 2014 with reception to follow. All will take place at Ronald A. BOUZANNE, Marie
Passed peacefully away with her family by her side at Linhaven Nursing Home, St. Catharines, Ontario on May 27, 2014 at the age of 91. Marie was a long time resident of Corner Brook, Newfoundland. Predeceased by her husband Alphonsus, son-in-law Dr. Denis Murphy, brothers: Patrick, Jim, and Gerald Dwyer, and her sister Rita Goodwin. Leaving to mourn with loving memories are her daughters: Madeline Bouzanne, Margaret Murphy, Susan (Robert) MacLeod, and her grandchildren: Joseph (Carrie) Murphy, Iain MacLeod and Meghan MacLeod. She will be missed by her brothers: Frank (Maria) Dwyer and Ron (Jennifer) Dwyer, sister Madeline (Ferrell) Gregg, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. BUGDEN, Phyllis

Passed on: May 14th, 2014

The family of the late Phyllis Bugden regret to announce her death in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on May 14, 2014.
Phyllis was born in Corner Brook in 1935, the youngest of three. She survived her two sisters, Betty Johnson and Ethel Gillard. She went to school in the public school system in Corner Brook, and later to the Grace Nursing School in St. John's where she did not finish her program, but instead met an American serviceman, Gerard Roy, whom she married, and moved with him to Springfield, Massachusetts, where they raised two daughters, Karen and Kimberly. Gerard died in 1975.
Phyllis attended Holyoke College in Massachusetts. She worked for many years for the Hamden County Sheriff's Department, where she dealt daily with hardened criminals. She retired in 1989.
Phyllis never forgot her Newfoundland home and family. She loved animals, and raised many a Newfoundland puppy. Her dog and cats were as human and important to her as her daughters and their families and her Newfoundland sisters and their families.
Phyllis returned to Newfoundland to live in 1996. She married Lloyd Bugden, a childhood friend from Corner Brook, in 1998. When Lloyd died, Phyllis moved to Kelligrews to be closer to her sister, Ethel. Phyllis loved to shop, to garden, and to bake. In 2012, after Ethel died, she moved her Newfoundland dog and her three cats back to the U.S. to be closer to her daughters, but she never gave up the thought of returning to Newfoundland.
Phyllis is mourned by her Newfoundland family, her sister-in-law and good friend, Shirley Bugden, her brother-in-law, Rexworth Gillard, her nieces and nephews and their spouses, Glenda and Keith Bartlett, Paula and Roger Barnsley, Glenn Gillard and Gaynor Rowe, and Paul Gillard and Gayle Garber. Phyllis' beloved pets will be cared for by her daughter, Kim. Her ashes will be scattered at the home of her daughter Kim, which she loved and where she will forever be at peace.

BURT, Graham Sidney

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Graham Sidney Burt announce his passing at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville on May 11th, 2014 at the age of 64 years. He leaves to mourn his two sons: Jeffrey (Myra) in Cold Lake, Alberta and Jeremy in Stephenville; his daughter, Kayla in Stephenville; his three brothers: Wallace and Winston in Corner Brook and Junior (Betty) in Botwood; his four sisters: Hilda (Austin) and Gloria (Morgan) in Peterview, Pansy (Andrew) in Kirkland Lake, Ontario and Daisy in Brampton, Ontario; as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Linda; his parents, Sidney & Suzanna; and his two sisters: Eunice Parsons and Breta Saunders. Passed peacefully away at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Stephenville, NL on May 31, 2014 with her loving family by her side, our beautiful mother, Beulah M. Butt, age 89. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: Ross (Beryl), Jean (Kevin) Skinner, Wendell (Cora), Ronald (Jocelyn), Roy (Betty), Marilyn (Reg) Howell, Iris (Tom) Penton, Ina (William) Mahu, Danny (Mary), Glenda (Rick) Mackey, and granddaughter Cathy (Charlie) Dean; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren whom she dearly loved as well as a large number of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Maxwell Butt in 2006; parents Mary and Llewelyn Pieroway; two brothers; six sisters and grandson Shawn Skinner. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Marguerite English announce her passing at the Long Term Care facility of the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Wednesday May 14, 2014 at the age of 54 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband Colin; son Richard; her father Edward; brothers: Eddy, Michael, and Bernard; sister Jean Antle, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Marguerite was predeceased by her mother Carol and sister Claire. Cremation has taken place. Predeceased by his wife of 60 years Mary Christina (Sis) (nee Bourgeois), parents Eli and Margaret King, daughter Chris King-Seguin, grandchildren: Elliot & Faye Feakins & Lorna Maw, brothers: Herb, Albert, & Allan King & sisters: Marjorie, Nora, Monica, Hannah and Lucy. He leaves to mourn his children: Geraldine (Edwin) Cake, Debbie (Karl) Butt, Marjorie (Don) Benoit, Allan (June) King, Shirley (Mark) Malashewski, Cathy King (Bob Sinnicks), Beverley King (Wanda Earle), grandchildren: Allan & Robert Cake, Terry Benoit, Donna Benoit, Scott King, Jonathon King--Seguin, Lisa Bryson, Jeff Cornect, Chelsea Sinnicks, Liam Sinnicks, and his great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, as well as his circle of friends. Aaron will be remembered by his family as a devoted husband, an avid walker and a social butterfly. He was a great storyteller and enjoyed making people laugh with his jokes. Aaron was originally from Lamaline on the Burin Peninsula but moved to the west coast to work on the Ernest Harmon Airforce base in the 1950's. It was there he settled to raise a family with his wife until they both moved to St. John's in 2010. Cremation has taken place. Heavens gates were opened wide as she entered with great rejoicing from Long Term Care Centre in Corner Brook on May 1st, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Vera lived a long life of 95 years with her life being one of sacrificial service and servanthood to those who knew her. Leaving to mourn are her children: Ruth Wellon (David) of Corner Brook, Major Bill King (Shirley) of Hamilton, Ontario; daughters-in-law: Linda King and Mae King, both of Corner Brook; brother, Clyde Hutchings (Joan) of Corner Brook, Blanche Batson, Labrador City, sister-in-law, Nora Hutchings, St. Johns; 12 grandchildren: Lisa (Darryl), Bobby (Tanya), Susan (Rob), David, Janet (Jason), Krista (Jerry), Jessie, Michael (Barbi), Jill, Michelle (D'Arcy), Pamela (Steve) and Shane (Erin); 13 great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Melinda Mackey, Salt Springs, Pictou County announce her sudden, peaceful passing on Tuesday May 27, 2014 at the Aberdeen Regional Hospital in New Glasgow, at the age of 72. Born in St. Paul's NL, she was a daughter of the late Rebecca & Freeman Bennett. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her best friend (spouse) Peter Mackey, her daughters: Corenia (Goronwy) Price, Maureen (Craig) Ford, Candi Mackey (Eddie Smith); her sons Larry (Evelyn), Peter (Robyn), Christopher (Heather); two sisters Vera Pittman, Marie (Kevin) Bennett; her brother Felix Bennett. Also left to mourn are 15 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and their dog Cuddles; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was predeceased by her sisters: Daisy (Jobie) Payne, Maude (Maurice) Bennett, Rosetta Bennett; granddaughter Sarah Mackey and brother-in-law Rendell Pittman. Although she would say her greatest achievement in life would be raising her family, she received her high school diploma at the age of 62. Melinda loved giving her time to others and did so in many ways; some of which included volunteering at the Soup Kitchen, Food Bank, and Meals on Wheels. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with elderly residents in the nursing home especially those that didn't have a family. The thing that bought the biggest smile to her face were visits with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Passed peacefully away on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, Dorothy Rita White at the age of 87 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: Don (Eva), Corner Brook, Barbara (Rade), Ottawa, Gloria, Ottawa, Paul (Rhonda), British Columbia, Terry (Peg), Corner Brook, Gerry (Shirley), Corner Brook, Brian (Marie), Ontario and Gary, Corner Brook; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; special friend Robert (Bob) Grant. She was predeceased by her husband Urban, son Ernest and son-in-law Tony. Friends may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark's Avenue on Thursday 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 24 at 10:30 a.m. from the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer, Mount Bernard Avenue with Father Edward Terry officiating. It is with great sadness and the heaviest of hearts, that the family of the late Loretta Agnes White announce her passing on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the age of 74 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband of 53 years Harold; sons: Harold (Dale), Robert (Ruth), Michael (Deanna), and Wayne; daughter: Joanne (Steve). Her treasured grandchildren: Robyn, Geoffrey, Alyssa, Evan, Cameron and Curtis; brothers Martin Pilgrim (Irene) and Tom Pilgrim (Pat) as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Henry and Mary Pilgrim, and three infant siblings. Cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held at a later date in July. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Martha White announce her passing at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital on May 31st, 2014 at the age of 67 years. She will be sadly missed by her loving husband William, her son Paul (Dana) in Stephenville, her daughter Melissa (Dan) in Alberta, her two brothers: Ralph (Marilyn), William (Mildred) all in St. Alban's, her seven sisters: Mary Collier in St. Alban's, Audrey (Bernard) House in Codroy Valley, Lillian (Roddrick) MacNeil, Linda (Francis) Regina Blakes all in St. Alban's, Donna (Clarence) Benoit in St. John's, Anita (David) Hynes in Noel's Pond. Also leaving to mourn is her granddaughter Amie Melissa White and a large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Genevieve and Samuel Blakes. Visitation took place on Monday June 2nd, 2014 from 7-9 at Russell's Funeral Home, 57 Prince Rupert Drive in Stephenville. Funeral service took place on Tuesday, June 3rd 2014 at 2:00 p.m from St. Stephen's Parish on West Street with Father Jim Robertson officiating. WILLETT, Kevin Joseph

It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Kevin Joseph Willett announce his passing at the Palliative Care Unit of Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the age of 73 years. Kevin was born in St. Joseph's Cove, Bonne Bay to the late John and Susannah (Hatcher) Willette. He spent his childhood living the traditional Newfoundland outport life until his father unexpectedly passed away. Kevin's life changed dramatically that day when, at 14 years old, he had to assume the patriarchal role of a large family. As a result, he developed a strong, conscientious work ethic that would stay with him throughout his life. Kevin leaves behind his cherished wife and best friend of 47 years, Bernadette (Gregory), two daughters, Marie Louise and Catherine Ann, and his two beloved grandsons, Kevin and James. He will also be missed by his siblings: Annie (Joe White), Sam (Margaret), Phil (Peggy), Loretta (Neil Dolmage), John (Carole Anne), Helen (Wendell Forward), Kathleen (Fred Webster) and Terry (Lynn), as well as his in-laws Mary and Vince Power, Joe and Sue Gregory, and Charlie and Pat Gregory, and his many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law Gertrude and Robert Parsons, nieces: Sheila White and Diane Parsons, and nephews: Christopher Willette and Michael Power. While he leaves behind many wonderful memories of music and friendships, he will be remembered for his greatest passion: his family. Friends may visit Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road between the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Friday and Saturday. The Funeral Mass of will be held Monday, May 26, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. from the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer Parish, Mount Bernard Avenue, officiated by Father Ambrose Hynes. In keeping with Kevin's wishes, cremation will take place with interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Western Memorial Regional Hospital Foundation or the Bay of Islands SPCA. She will be sadly missed by her four sons: Clarence (Denise) in Shallop Cove, Junior (Mary) in Shallop Cove, Clifford (Marg) in Baie Verte and Gerard (Beverley) in Fort McMurray; her four daughters: Norma (Bill) in Mississippi, Mary (Terrance) of Stephenville Crossing, Nina (John) of Stephenville Crossing and Joan (Brian) of Saint John, New Brunswick; her sister, Nora Bennett of Stephenville Crossing; 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael and her sister, May Jane Simon. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, May 13th, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. from Russell's Funeral Home in Stephenville Crossing. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, May 14th, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. from Assumption Parish with interment in the Roman Catholic Cemetery on Brook Street in Stephenville Crossing.
