You never rushed us when we went to see you. When he became ill, you explained the illness and options so Dad could decide for himself and this made things easy for Dad to make the decisions he did. Again, thank you for showing that caring and compassion still exists. To Colleen, you are a wonderful asset to Dr. Halyk. You always joked with Dad and made him smile. To the Home Care Nurses, you are all wonderful at your jobs. Michelle, you certainly chose the perfect profession for yourself. Your kindness and compassion is perfect for Palliative Care. God Bless you all.

TAPPER, Ruth (Ruthie) (Morrie)
Passed on: May 5th, 2013

It is with sadness and joy that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Ruth Tapper (nee Morris) on Sunday May 5, 2013. Ruth is predeceased by her beloved husband George, by her parents Ruth and Roland Morris and by brothers Roland, Harold, Stanley and Chesley. Leaving to mourn daughters Janet Coombes (Shannon) and Gayle Tapper; grandchildren Roy, Julia, Laura and Thomas, special nieces Linda Bartlett (Eric) and Mary Anderson (George); sisters, Alice Rowe (Beaverton, ON) and Norma Jones (Hatboro, PA), as well as other relatives and friends. Mom will also be missed by her four legged friends, Sammy, Morgan, Tanner and Savannah. Mom's roots in Glendale, Mount Pearl, go back to the 1920s, where her father Roland Morris was instrumental in the development of the early town. She is the Ruth for whom Ruth Avenue was named. Early in the depression years of the '30s, she immigrated with her family to Canada, settling in Toronto, Ontario. The story of their immigration was one of humiliating treatment and devastating loss. However, Toronto became home and remained so for much of her family. Ruth and her brother Harold, as well as their parents, returned to Newfoundland and Ruth and Harold continued their father's dream of the development of Mount Pearl. In 1946 she entered the General Hospital School of Nursing and became a "General Girl", Class of '48. She faithfully attended reunions of her class and of the ARNNL alumni every year. In St. John's she met and married the love of her life, George and they built their home in Mount Pearl. They spent their vacations in Woody Point where our Dad's family resided and in the late '70s were able to purchase a home there. They had too few years to enjoy this together before our father's passing but Woody Point has always been the home of our Mother's heart. Dad spent the last summer of his life trying to teach his 1 year old granddaughter Julia to say Mom's name as he affectionately called her, Ruthie. From that day to this, our mother has been known to her friends and family, young and old alike, as simply Ruthie. She will be remembered for her warmth, generosity and wit (Rainy day? "better than bombs"). For Mom every day was precious. Visitation will take place at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Rd on Tuesday May 7, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, May 8, 2013 from 10-12 p.m. Service will be held at the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Wednesday May 8, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. Resting and visitation at Church of the Epiphany, Woody Point Bonne Bay on Friday May 10, 2013 with funeral service at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery. Donations in Ruthie's memory may be made to the Canadian Red Cross or to a charity of your choice. To send a message of condolence or to sign the memorial guest book please visit www.carnells.com
