Born: May 6th, 1932
Passed on: April 22nd, 2018

Peacefully, on April 22, 2018, Mona Hinton passed away in her home in Winnipeg, with her family by her side. Born to Herbert and Jessie House on May 6, 1932 in Daniel's Harbours, Newfoundland, Mona was the eldest daughter of six children. She was predeceased by her father and mother, brothers Wallace and Baxter and brother-in-law Harold. Mona's memory will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 62 years, Maurice; children, Ann and Eric (Judith); grandchildren Martha, Rachel (Dustin), Emily (Raymond), and Sam; precious great-grandchildren Lillian and Hudson. She will be greatly missed by her sisters, Anita (Dave) Towill, Dot (Walt) Shears, Pamela House, sister-in-law Winnie House and brother-in-law Donald (Cecily) Hinton, sister-in-law Dora Ann Hinton and many nieces and nephews. Mona lived a charming life in the outport of Bellburns and as the eldest daughter had her share of chores which included looking after her younger sisters. She had of gift of memorizing songs and was able to make up little ditties to entertain her siblings and other children. Many stories from her life there and previous generations have kept us entertained through the years. Old stories, laughter and songs have marked her life and ours. Mona had a razor-sharp wit that was loved by many. She had a lot of relatives and friends to whom she was thoughtful, loyal, and generous with written words, cards or gifts.
She taught school briefly and worked at the Bank of Montreal in Corner Brook, NL, where she met a customer, Maurice. Smitten by her beauty, he proposed, and they married August 12,1955. Then began a journey of meeting life long friends through the mining towns; Tilt Cove, Little Bay, Springdale, Daniels Harbour in Newfoundland, Werner Lake, Ontario and finally their longest residence in Edmonton. Close to Southgate Mall and all the bus routes, she had a daily walking routine to the shops with the motto "always shopping and never buying" unless it was a real bargain. The personnel at the Southgate Bay knew her and Shelly at the hair salon will remember her. She loved her garden and tended it well. Her tastefully decorated house was always welcoming with the scent of freshly baked goods. An excellent cook, she rarely ate out. She loved the daily crosswords, scrabble, jeopardy, and reading; especially biographies. She rarely traveled and flew as little as possible but had some memorable one-time trips to England, Orlando and Phoenix. Honorary pallbearers are Martha Hinton, Rachel Hinton, Emily Bowness, Dianne Burden, Pamela Osborne, and Caroline Cowan. Cremation has taken place and on April 26, a private memorial at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre in Winnipeg was performed by Rev. Donald Hinton. In keeping with her wishes, internment will take place at Spudgell's Cove, NL in the summer of 2018. If desired, donations can be made in Mona's name to Palliative Manitoba 2109 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3J 0L3 or contacting them by phone at (204) 889-8525 or by email at info@palliativemanitoba.ca

MacDONALD, Roger Michael
Born: November 18th, 1947
Passed on: April 28th, 2018
Corner Brook, NL

Today the world lost a great man. Surrounded by loved ones, he finally gave into the cancer he fought so bravely for almost three years. Never dwelling on the negative and never once complaining, "just taking it as it comes". A loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He loved life, whether moose hunting with friends, sitting on the front deck in the sunshine, or by the fire at his favourite place in the world, the cabin. Always there to lend a helping hand. He treated everyone with the same kindness, no matter who you were, and made you feel like family. Everyone loved him and will miss him dearly because of it. Those left to cherish each special memory: the love of his life for 51 years, Audrey, son Cory (Mona), daughter Christa (Bruce), precious grandchildren who adored him Jasmine, Jaxon and Mason, brothers and sisters-in-law Yvonne and Bill Marks, Lorne and Linda Keeping, Eileen and Ken Best, Boyd and Norma Keeping, Shirley and Stu Sparkes, Ruby and Gerry Callahan, Elmo and Sandra Keeping, Rick Keeping and Barry Keeping, special cousins Madonna and Autley Elford and a long list of extended family and beloved friends that all had a place in his heart. Predeceased by his sisters Peggy and Helen, his father Michael MacDonald, mother and step-father Josephine and Bud O'Rourke, mother and father-in-law Mary and Arthur Keeping. We are so grateful and appreciative for our large circle of family and friends who gave their constant support, time and love and made this journey a little easier. At Roger's request cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road, on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at 7 pm from where a prayer service will take place at Country Haven Chapel at 8:30 pm with Father Andrew White officiating.
