BROWNRIDGE, Philip "Diller"
Phil passed away on Friday, April 5, 2013 in New Westminster, BC valiantly fighting an aggressive cancer. Phil was born in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. At age 16 he moved with his family to Esquimalt, and graduated from Esquimalt High School in 1970. Phil had a voracious appetite for knowledge and in early adulthood travelled near and far. He embarked on a career as a civil structural engineer technician and graduated from BCIT in Vancouver, leading to employment with the BC Highways Department. During these years amidst more travel he delved into real estate investment and a disciplined plan to achieve early retirement. At age 53 Phil retired and being predeceased by his father Warren E. Brownridge, took on the responsibility for maintaining his immediate families needs. Always focused and steadfast, Philip was guided throughout his life by a self-declared compass "Discipline, Duty, Honour and Courage". Phil's word was his bond to family and friends. During the past six years, Phil took to the road again fulfilling dreams to see Greece, Turkey, Egypt and South East Asia, soaking up knowledge and seeking answers for the disharmony of our modern world. He reached out to family across the country and always made time for his friends. Philip is survived by his loving mother Riza Brownridge (nee Cornect) and brothers Warren and Gerald. Friends and relatives are invited, at Phil's request, to his memorial service on Friday, June 14, 2013 in Esquimalt. "God Took Her To His Loving Home"
God saw that she was getting tired,
A cure was not to be,
He wrapped her in his loving arms,
And whispered "Come with Me".
She suffered much in silence,
Her spirits did not bend,
She faced her pain with courage,
Until the very end.
She tried so hard to stay with us,
But her fight was not in vain,
God took her to His loving home,
And freed her from the pain
