It is with great sadness that the family of the late Harold McLean announce his passing at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville on Thursday, March 30, 2000 at the age of 87 years. He will be sadly missed by his four sons: Felix (Joanne) McLean of Moncton, NB, Harold (Lisa) McLean of Mississauga, ON, Ronald McLean of Calgary, Alberta, Austin McLean of Toronto, ON; one daughter, Cecilia (Mel) Oickle of Orleans, ON; one step-sister, Anastasia Hynes of Kippens; two stepbrothers: John McLean of Port au Port, Alex McLean of Stephenville; 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. He will also be sadly missed by special friends, Theresa Young of Kippens and Thomas Pieroway of Stephenville Crossing. He was predeceased by his two brothers: Angus McLean, Bernard McLean and one sister, Dorothy Doucette. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Mary Patricia Walker announce her passing on Thursday, March 30th, 2000 at the Interfaith Home in her 95th year. She will be sadly missed by her loving family: daughter Elizabeth Alteen (Lou), granddaughter Ann Chaffey (David), her very dear great-grandson Michael Chaffey; sisters: Aileen Kenny, Corner Brook, Shirley Buckingham, Vancouver, Dorothy Cossitt (Gus), Corner Brook, sisters-in-law: Pauline Walker, Nancy Kelly, Corner Brook, brother-in-law Mac Parsons and a large number of nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Benjamin Walker in 1970; parents Thomas and Elizabeth Kelly; sisters Ann Dunphy, Gertrude Parsons, Madge Grant; brothers: Ron Kelly, Morris Kelly, Albert Kelly and Claude Kelly. It is with sadness that the family of the late Bartholomew (Bert) Williams announce his passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Friday, March 31st, 2000 at the age of 94 years. He will be missed by his loving family: daughters, Frances Williams, Rita Atkinson (Kevin) all of Corner Brook and Theresa MacLean (Gordon) of Ottawa; one brother, John and his wife Monica of Holyrood; four grandchildren, Carolyn Good of Mount Pearl, Jackie Fagan (Joe) of St. John's, Heidi Johnson (Rusty) of North Carolina, USA and Jason MacLean of Ottawa; three great grandchildren, Adam Good, Stephanie Fagan and Riley Johnson and also a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Mr. Williams is predeceased by his wife, Frances on January 22, 1991; son, Walter; Parents, John and Ellen; brothers: Joseph and Richard (Dick) and sisters, Mary, Mildred and Nellie. Visitation will take place at Wellington Funeral Home on Sunday during the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Monday at 10:30 a.m. from All Hallows Roman Catholic Church, Humber Road with Monsignor Boone officiating. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward and his mother, Marie. A memorial service will take place Monday, April 3rd at 11:00 a.m. from Assumption Parish, Stephenville Crossing. It is with great sadness that the family of the late John Stuckless announce his passing on Friday, March 31st, 2000 at his family residence in his 85th year. He will be sadly missed by his special friend Leah Osmond. His four sons: George (Ruby) of Gander, Allen (Isabelle) of Corner Brook; Roy (Faith) of Red Deer, Alberta, Alexander (Carol) of Kitchener, Ontario. One daughter Peggy (Calvin) Gale of St. Paul's. Ten grandchildren, Isabel, Terry, Jerry, Theodore, Brian, Ada, Derrick, Tonya, Sherri and Shane. Eleven great-grandchildren, Robert, Danielle, John Allen, Deanna, Mackenzie, Mark, Brian, Brian Jr., Brandon, Nicole and Daniel. Four brothers, William of Baie Verte, George (Ula) of Pasadena, Luke (Audrey), Wilfred (Rosie) both of Westport. Five sisters, Naomi Jardine of Nova Scotia, Phoebe Rogers of St. John's, Florence (Herbert) Crocker of Trout River, Gladys (Arthur) Osmond of Hampden and Neta Fagan of St. John's. Also a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Dorcas (nee Gavin), brother Allen and sisters Annie and Elizabeth (Augustus) and granddaughter Nicole. Visitation took place from the Anglican Church in Hampden on Sunday where also funeral services will take place today, Monday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Woodman officiating. Interment to follow at the family plot. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parsons Funeral Home, 63 Northmain Street, Deer Lake.

It is with great sadness and regret that the family of the late Mrs. Dora Blackmore announce her passing at the DVA unit of the O'Connell Centre on Sunday, April 2nd, 2000, at the age of 88 years. She will be sadly missed by her loving family; her sons: Fred (Linda) residing at Truro, NS, and Shawn residing at Corner Brook. Her daughter: Dora Rideout (Caywood) residing at Corner Brook, two grandsons: Robin residing at Toronto, and Troy residing at Corner Brook. One granddaughter: Tracy residing at Corner Brook. Three sisters: Bessie Brake residing at Corner Brook, Phoebe and Marjorie residing at Halifax. She will be also missed by a number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her husband John, November 29th, 1998, her brother, Jack Anderson and her parents, Isaac and Sarah Anderson. The funeral service will take place at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Cathedral on Main Street on Tuesday, 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Arthur Churchill officiating. The interment will take place at Mount Patricia Cemetery Receiving vault. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Theresa Compagnon (nee Barnes) announce her passing at the Guardian Angel Home, Lark Harbour on Tuesday, April 25th, 2000 at the age of 87 years. Leaving to mourn with fond memories is her loving husband George of 64 years, Guardian Angel Home, Lark Harbour. Nine daughters: Shirley (Harold), Lark Harbour, Agnes, Corner Brook, Irene (Ben), Halifax, Sadie (Don), Fort McMurray, Olive (Edgar), Vancouver, Linda (Winston), Corner Brook, Lillian (Aubrey), Fort McMurray, Fay (Harold), Lark Harbour and Joy (Glen), Grand Prairie. One son: Roland (Theresa), John's Beach. Son-in-law: Joseph Gallant, Corner Brook, 26 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Brother: William Barnes, Frenchman's Cove, two sisters: Lillian Wheeler, Guardian Angel Home, Lark Harbour and Mary (William) Parsons, Curling. Brothers-in-law: Jack Compagnon (Cecilia), Stephenville, Fred Compagnon (Rita), Corner Brook and Eric Compagnon (Elvie), Frenchman's Cove. Sisters-in-law: Jean Wheeler, Corner Brook, Rhodena (William) Loder, Toronto, Olive Barnes, Frenchman's Cove and Annie Compagnon, Corner Brook, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Friends may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street on Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m. and on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, april 28th, at 2 p.m. from St. Ambrose Anglican Church, John's Beach, officiated by Most Rev. L. Stewart Payne with interment to follow at the Church Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, flowers graciously accepted or donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

JESSO, Stanley Martin
Boswarlos, NF

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Stanley Martin Jesso announce his passing at his family residence on Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at the age of 87 years. He leaves to mourn his wife Hazel; sons: Leslie (Marie) and Verdun (Marilyn), Boswarlos; Boyde (Bessie), Stephenville; Larry (Gloria), Halifax; Russell (Heather), British Columbia; daughters: Mabel, Greta (Harold), and Viola (Paul), Boswarlos; Sheila (Fred), Stephenville; Maisie (Gordon), Gillams; Linda, St. John's; thirty-seven grandchildren, fifty-two great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a number of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his daughter, Joyce. The family will be receiving friends from Fillatre's Funeral Home, Prince Rupert Drive, Stephenville, Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Friday 10 a.m. - 12 noon. The Funeral Service will take place on Friday, April 28th, at 2:00 p.m. from Emmanuel Pentecostal Tabernacle, Boswarlos, Pastor Mills officiating, followed by the interment at the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy flowers will be graciously accepted or donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Stella M. Harvey announce her passing at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre in Stephenville Crossing on Thursday, April 27, 2000 at the age of 81 years. She will be sadly missed by two sons: Brian (Bev) Harvey of Stephenville, George (Diane) Harvey of Boswarlos; two step-sons: Irving Harvey of Brampton, Ontario, Everett (Ann) Harvey of Calgary, Alberta; two step-daughters: Audrey (Tunney) Hunt of Boswarlos, Phyllis Rideout of Stephenville; two brothers: Bobby Jesso and Harry Jesso, both of West Bay; a large circle of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Otto Harvey in 1991 and three brothers, Matthew, Frank, Stanley and three sisters, Leona, Dolly and Ellie. Friends may call at Russell's Funeral Home, 39 Queen Street, Stephenville on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Services will take place on Saturday, April 29th at 2:00 p.m. from the Zion Pentecostal Church, Carolina Avenue, Stephenville with interment in the Hillside Interfaith Cemetery, Hansen Highway, Stephenville. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations to a charity of one's choice would be greatly appreciated.

POWER, Patrick James
At London Health Sciences Centre, Westminister Campus on Wednesday, April 12, 2000, Patrick James Power of London, born May 5, 1938. He retired from the R.C.M.P. in 1988 in St. John's, Newfoundland and worked for several years with Bradley First Air. Born in Paradise, Placentia Bay, Newfoundland. Beloved son of Stephen of Stephenville, Newfoundland and predeceased by his mother Madge (nee Pomeroy) and brothers Stephen and Jack and sister Colleen. Survived by sisters Margaret and her husband Skip Noble, Ms. Jeanette Power all of London, Carmelita and her husband Ron Kraft of Port Franks, Ms. Rosette Power of London, brothers Daniel and his wife Jenny of Oshawa, Ernest and his wife Debbie of Fort McMurray, Alberta, William and his wife Marilyn of Point au Mal, Newfoundland and Arthur of London. Long-time loving companion and friend of Edward and Georgie McFadgen and family. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation in the Lloyd R. Needham Funeral Chapel, 520 Dundas Street, (Thursday 2-4 and 7-9) where the funeral and committal service will be conducted on Friday, April 14th at 1:00 p.m. Fr. Beck Celebrant. Cremation. Memorial contributions to the Children's Hospital of Western Ontario would be appreciated.

DOWNEY, Walter Joseph
Age 69

It is with great sadness and regret that the family of the late Walter Joseph Downey announce his sudden passing at the Dr. Charles L. LeGrow Health Centre on April 24th, 2000 at the age of 69 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his wife Lucy (nee Norman), four sons: Brendan (Sandy), Dan (Katie), Terry (Debbie), Steve (Karen), all of Great Codroy, daughter: Jeanette (Dan Gougeon) of Ottawa, eleven grandchildren: Scott, Bobbi, Shane, Holly, Greg, Kiley, Bethany, Amy, David, Julie and Stacy, two brothers: Bert and Ralph, one sister: Margaret, as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Alban and Rose (Young) Downey, son David, four brothers: Bobby, Allie, Fintan and Kevin. Family and friends were received at St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church in Great Codroy on Wednesday from where the Funeral Service took place on Thursday, April 27th, 2000 at 11 a.m. with Father Desmond McGrath officiating. Interment followed at Mount St. Thomas Roman Catholic Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, 134 Main Street, Port aux Basques.

PRYDE, Basil (Ben)
Marco Island Florida

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Basil (Ben) Pryde, 76, of Marco Island Florida announce his passing on April 24 at Naples Community Hospital. Born in India, he was the son of the late James Richmond and Katharine Pryde. He was a veteran of World War II, he attended Sandhurst and served with the Indian Army in southeast Asia. Following the war he immigrated to Newfoundland, where he joined Bowater Newfoundland Ltd. He attended both Kings College and Harvard University. He was president and general manager of the Corner Brook mill and director of Molson Canadian Breweries. He was an active member of the community member of the Corner Brook Legion, Chamber of Commerce, Blomidon Golf Club, Deputy mayor, drama club. He was an active outdoorsman enjoying both hunting and fishing. He was appointed President of Bowater Sales Corp. and Vice President of Bowater North America. He retired to Florida in 1983, where he enjoyed an active retirement, traveling the world and driving his BMW motorcycle. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Elizabeth (Babs) Pryde nee Carson, daughters Yane (Mrs. Richard Petley-Jones) Granville Ferry, NS, Joanne (Mrs. Gordon Mock) Sydney, Australia, sons Rick Pryde, Florencevile, NB, Terry Pryde, Winchester, Virginia, Fraser Pryde, Halifax, NS, Bruce Pryde, Lighthouse Pt., Florida, and 9 grandchildren. He was predeceased by 2 brothers and his sister. Cremation has taken place. Donations may be made to the Salvation Army.

50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY

Glenn and Louise (nee Gosse) Chaulk of Prince Charles Road in Massey Drive, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary April 28. The couple was married on April 28, 1950 at St. John the Evangelist Church by Rev. T. E. Loder. They have five children, Brenda (Bruce), Gary (Dorothy), Karen (Dave), Brian (Bernadette), Deborah (Roderick), and seven grandchildren.

Slipped away in the night in Calgary, Alberta after a brave struggle. Predeceased by parents Bill & Della, brothers: Raymond & Danny, nephew Geoffrey. Left to grieve her loss and celebrate her creative and adventurous life, six sisters: Anita (Calgary), Anne Marie & Herb (Jean de Baie), Jane & Derek (Calgary), Terry & Julia (Toronto), Nellie (Youngstown), Carol & Randy (Placentia). Three brothers: Bill (Brossard), Sean (Toronto), Seamus & Karen (Toronto). Seven nieces, Bertie, Darlene, Dierdre, Hanna, Jackie, Jessica and Tina. Eight nephews, Aaron, Brendan, Daire, Herb Jr., Jason, Lloyd, Seamus Sean and Zach. Two great-nieces Samantha and Stephanie. Two great-nephews Dylan and Devon. Pat's sweetie, Terry Buckly. The other loves in her live, Neil P. Riggs, Alan Pickersgill and Tor Fosnaes. Her oldest and dearest childhood friends, Val Samms, Paul Goodyear, and Mary Normore. Her dear friends, Pat & Jeff Bray, Roberta Buchanan, Gary Purcell & Robert Nicole, Rudy Gelderblom, Gervais Gallant, Jean Deleskie, Michael Calcott, all the folks at NDI and Axiom Eng., and Fat Cat and a list of other dear friends that goes on and on, unfortunately known mostly by Pat. A gathering of family and friends will take place at Coombs Funeral Home, Placentia (709-227-3004) Sunday, April 30, 2000.
