It is with great sadness that the family of the late Beverley Attwood announce her passing on Sunday, March 20, 2016 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook at the age of 81 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: Patricia Rowsell, Barbara Rowsell, Debbie (Tom) Matthews, Christina Ruth (David) Walker, Rosalind (John) Penney, and Dawn (John) Bethune, 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, siblings: Joan Paris, Shirley Newell, Thomas (Doris) Attwood, Jack (Irene) Attwood, Linda (Russell) Wells, Monty (Nancy) Attwood, and a large circle of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her son Ross Maxwell Rowsell Jr, parents Joseph and Gladys Attwood. Cremation will take place from Humber Valley Crematorium on Tuesday, March 22nd. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Elizabeth "Ellie" Bachmann announce her passing on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook at the age of 86 years. She lived with vitality and passed quickly and gently. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: Ralph, St. John's, Regina (Gary) Dewling, Corner Brook, Tony, Corner Brook, Doris (Stewart) Bellows, Corner Brook, Carl, Brockville, Ont. and Monica (Ron) McCarthy, Corner Brook; grandchildren: Sean, Adam, Christopher (Tara), Sara, Spencer, Hillary, Joshua and Helena; great-grandchildren: Julia, MacKenzie and Alexis; sisters: Irene Weisert, Germany and Regina (Gerhard) Göring, Germany. As well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Heinrich "Henry" Bachmann, parents Ignatz and Agnes Laskowski, brother Ziegfried Laskowski. Elizabeth lived life to the fullest and loved her family. She enjoyed bowling, darts and volunteered many hours with the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary. BARRON, Maud (nee Berkshire)
Passed on: March 29th, 2016

Died peacefully after a short illness in Surrey, British Columbia on March 29th, 2016, in her 89th year. Daughter of the late Alfred and Ida Berkshire. She was predeceased by her former husband Leonard, by her sisters Ada, Hazel and Hilda and her brother Bill. One surviving brother Bob, lives in Corner Brook. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Denise, and her sons (partners) Robert (Agnes), John (Tatyana), Andy (Dorte) and Paul (Michelle).Besides her family, the other true joy in her life was her eight grandchildren. Maud graduated as a nurse in Montreal in 1944 and then worked till 1947 at the Homeopathic Hospital in Montreal. While raising five children, Maud worked both part-time and full-time as a nurse in Corner Brook, before later going back to MUN to attain a diploma in Psychiatric Nursing, retiring from nursing in 1979. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Covenant House in Vancouver (covenanthouse.org), or any charity of your choice. There will be a viewing (10-10:45 am) and a memorial service (11 am) at St. Bernadette Church, 6543 132nd St. Surrey, BC on Friday, April 1st.

It is with shattered hearts that we have to say goodbye to our wonderful son. Kyle William Barry lost his fight with Cockayne Syndrome on March 30, 2016 at the Western Memorial Hospital at the age of 28 years. Kyle was predeceased by his grandfather William Barry, sister Shianne Barry on March 16, 2015, brother Justin Anderson and aunt Dorothy Barry. Leaving to mourn with many fond and precious memories are his loving parents Charles and Maureen Barry, paternal grandmother Wilhelmina Barry Irishtown NL, maternal grandparents George and Marie Downey O'Regan's, uncle and aunts: Leo Barry, Mary Ann Barry both of Irishtown, NL, Rita (Bernard) Gale O'Regan's, John Downey, Diane (Victor) Walmsley, Clyde (Donna) Downey all of Ontario, George (Lauri) Downey Saskatchewan, Karen Downey (Marvin) Port aux Basques, David (Charlene) Downey St. John's, NL, Susan (Brian) Fiander Mount Uniacke, NS and a large circle of extended family and many friends. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Marilyn Mary Borden announce her passing at the Western Memorial Hospital in her 70th year, after a long and stubborn battle with cancer. She leaves to mourn her husband Fraser; sisters: Barbara O'Blenis, Corner Brook, Elaine Graham, Halifax, NS; brothers: Isaac (Rose), Benoits Cove and John, Corner Brook; sisters-in-law: Judith Vinton (Charles), San Antonio, Texas, Donna Cox (Charles), Ottawa, Sharon Borden, St. John's, Lois Randell, Steady Brook; brother-in-law Kevin Borden, Corner Brook, as well a wide circle of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Ruby May Crocker announce her peaceful passing on Monday, March 21, 2016 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook in her 93rd year. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: Denise (Kaj) Hedin, Brian (May) Crocker, Vicki Crocker and daughter-in-law Heather Crocker. Also left to mourn are her dear grandchildren: Caroline Hedin, James Hedin, Alex (Ashley) Crocker, Alana Crocker (Josh Webb), Shawn Crocker and Paul Crocker and sisters: Cora Batstone, Annette Stafford and Edna Tilley. She was predeceased by her husband James, son Paul, parents Lemuel and Pearl Batstone, sister Marjorie Sharpe and brother Earl Batstone. She also left behind a large circle of relatives and friends. Ruby was the epitome of motherhood, always putting her family first and foremost. A kind, loving, gentle spirit who was strong, capable and wise. Ruby was a very artistic person who could put her hand to anything. She was a superb seamstress and quilter and in her later years, she developed a keen interest in oil painting. Throughout her life though, her main passion was the creation of beautiful gardens for all to admire. Cremation has taken place and the family will be receiving friends on Sunday, March 27 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Fillatre's Funeral Home on St. Marks Avenue. The funeral service will be held on Monday, March 28 at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist with the Very Rev. Baxter D. Park officiating. Interment to follow at a later date. passed away peacefully on Monday March 28, 2016, at Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age 83. Father Grace was ordained June 1, 1958. Following ordination he served in the role of Curate at Our Lady of Lourdes parish in Lourdes on the Port au Port Peninsula, the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer in Corner Brook and at All Hallows in Humber Mouth. He then served as Parish Priest at St. Joseph's in Harbour Breton, St. Ignatius in St. Alban's/Bay D'Espoir, All Hallows in Humber Mouth and Holy Rosary in Pasadena. He was predeceased by his parents John Grace and Alice (Edwards), brothers John, Cyril, and Clayton. He leaves to mourn his brother Clarence and wife Irene, sister-in-law Patricia, nieces and nephews; as well as Bishop Peter Hundt, his brother priests, parishioners and special friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 from the hours of 7-9 pm at Holy Rosary Parish in Pasadena. It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our beautiful daughter Meghan in a tragic accident on Highway 797 near Langdon on March 26, 2016. No longer will we see Meghan's beautiful eyes, hear her infectious laughter or feel her loving embrace. She graduated St. Mary's High School Honors Program 2005; University of Calgary, BA 2010; Masters of Library and Information Studies, U of A, 2013. Meghan has been employed by TransCanada Pipelines since 2013 and was on the Board of Directors for the Chestermere Public Library. She is survived by her parents Alex and Jaci, Brother Jason (Angela), nieces Fiona and Olivia, Grandfather Michael Hackett, boyfriend Steve, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, many of whom have traveled across Canada and New Zealand to support our family. We would like to thank the communities of Langdon and Chestermere for their outpouring of support. There was a Memorial Mass held for Meghan at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Calgary on Tuesday, April 5. Born on February 27, 1922, she was the daughter of William and Alice Jane Matchem of Piccaire, Newfoundland. Elizabeth was the second youngest of ten children and is survived by her sister Marion Gilliam. Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Garfield and her daughter Ethel. She is survived by her three children: Leo (Gail), Marilyn Parsons (Jack) and Eileen Chaffey (Taylor); grandchildren: John Parsons, Natalie Beattie (Rob), Dana Chaffey (Donna), Deirdre Curnew (Sheridan), Scott Harvey (Connie), Tony Harvey (Janice), and Sonya Landry (Barry); great-grandchildren: Brandon, Adam, Liam, Kailey, Tyler, Lindsay, Kiley, Joshua, Tara, Graham, Hilary, Sarah, Aleisha; great-great-grandchildren: Gage, Aria, Brynlee and Axel. Elizabeth was a sweet and gentle soul with a warm and loving nature. She loved her family and friends dearly, always had time to spend with them and was determined to make sure that no one left her home hungry. She loved music and had a wonderful sense of humour. After living in Ottawa, Regina, and Rome, she finally settled in White Rock to be close to her sons, their wives and her 5 precious grandchildren. She loved nothing more than having them all together for a family meal for whatever the celebration or holiday and was always finding ways to make them each feel so loved and special. Humour, laughter and conversation along with her kind and caring nature were always front and centre with both family and friends and will forever be missed in all their lives. Surrounded by family and friends, Donna passed away peacefully in the arms of her loved ones. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her devoted husband, Fiddler Lainey, mother Magdalen Cochrane, mother-in-law Betty Flynn, brother Daniel Cochrane (Rhonda Boyd), and special adopted brother Gerard Cochrane (Cindy). Also leaving to mourn her devoted brothers-in-law Wade (Gwen), Chad (Belinda), Wendell (Julie), Norbert (Maria) and sisters-in-law Beverley (Eldon), Debbie (Harvey), her many aunts, uncles, cousins and special furry friend, Lucy, along with a large circle of friends. Donna was predeceased by her father, Daniel Cochrane Sr. Donna courageously accepted her battle with cancer over the last three years. Her many friends and family can be inspired by her fighting spirit, her loving nature and her courage. Donna loved the outdoors and celebrated nature and life in every possible pursuit. On the trails, in the rivers and berry patches or just cooking, painting or playing cards around the table, Donna lived life to the fullest. We are all saddened by our loss and with heavy hearts, we console and support each other and take strength from the memories she has left behind. In Austin's 89th year, it is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather on March 1st, 2016. Austin was born in Robinson's, NL and was the son of the late Isaac and Leona Legge. Austin was from a loving religious family of ten children. He always spoke in high respect for his siblings and their families. Austin is survived by his wife Anne, son Mark (Pam) Stephenville and Daughters Donna (Clifton) Robinsons and Lori (Andrew), Lower Sackville NS. Grandson's Justin, Jamie, Jonathan, Kameron and Ryan. Great children Clifton, Connor & Ellen. Brother: Garland Legge (Stephenville Crossing); Sister: Neatha Masey (Halifax, NS). Step Children: Jim (Della) Dale (Wayne), Wanda (Bill), Sandra (Steward), Wayne (Gloria). He was predeceased by his wife Ellen (1992) and Daughter Loretta (1989). Brothers: Westley, Godden, Robert and Vernon. Sisters: Viola Tillam, Mildred Hayden, Olive Hedrician. Austin was a well know, respected man of the community where he raised his 4 children in their home town of Robinsons. Austin worked some part-time work at the Harmon Military Base in Stephenville as well as crown survey work in his local community. After that he continued into his career as a Fisheries officer for the Department of fisheries and ocean Canada. Over those years he farmed with his brother Godden providing vegetables for his family as well for market. In his retirement years he resided with his wife Anne in Stephenville spending time with their friends and family in the congregation Zion Penticostal Church. Visitation will take place on Thursday and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 at Russell's Funeral Home in Stephenville. Age 91, Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co., passed away peacefully on Monday, March 14, 2016 at the home of her family in Halifax. She was born on the Change Islands, Newfoundland, prior to Second World War and lived in Cornerbrook and Deer Lake, before moving to Bridgewater in the 1970's. In spite of a number of health issues she maintained a spirited and independent lifestyle until the end. She loved flowers, birds, laughter and life. In addition to her Bridgewater neighbours and friends she leaves her loving sons, Edwin (Donna), Halifax; Scott (Ann), Bridgewater; six grandchildren, Susan, Karen, Craig, James, Ryan and David; twelve great-grandchildren and her sister, Victoria "Jean", Florida. She was predeceased by her devoted husband James; her parents, Garland and Julia (Temple) Hale; a newborn sister, a sister Verna in childhood and older brothers, Donald and Roy. Special thank you is extended to her long-standing dear friends, Jean and Bill Learning of Bridgewater, the management and staff of the Gladstone Berkeley in Halifax, Dr. Edith Baxter, the VON and the Capital Health Palliative Care team. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side. O'CONNELL, Dr. Charles Leo MD

Passed away March 28, 2016 in his 93rd year under the kind care of the staff of The Village at University Gates. Born and raised in Corner Brook, Newfoundland and a proud Newfoundlander. He was predeceased by his parents Dr. John and Mrs. Bridgit O'Connell, and his siblings Miller, John and Elizabeth. He leaves behind his devoted wife Bonnie, sisters-in-law Bernadette and Ruth, nieces and nephews, Sheilagh, Sean, Maureen (Wendy), Lorne (Joanne), Tim (Lesley) and Colleen and great nieces and nephews, Siobhan, Kyle, Austen, Connor, Sheryl and Jacqueline. Charlie, as he was known to most, earned a BSC from St Francis Xavier University in 1945 and graduated medical training from the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland in 1953 subsequently receiving his licentiate of midwifery from The Rotunda Hospital in Dublin. Over his life he was stationed at the DEW Line, practiced as a GP and General Surgeon in Kitchener and served with Care Medico in Honduras and Indonesia for which he was awarded the Queen's Jubilee Medal. He loved playing the piano, swimming and skiing ... a highlight being skiing the Alps at 73. In retirement, he shared his love of music by playing "gigs" at area retirement homes and care centres and more recently by entertaining his fellow residents at University Gates. Charlie's positive, caring attitude and love of life had an impact on everyone he met and he will be greatly missed. Passed peacefully away at home, in Ottawa, on March 16, 2016 formerly of Rocky Harbour, NL in her 89th year. Predeceased by her husband Raymond, loving mother of Norma Pike (Fraser), Gloria Michelin (Eddy) and Dean Prince (Beverly). Cherished grandmother of eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is survived by siblings: Winston Ellsworth (Barbara), Vernon Ellsworth (Florence), Daisy Ellsworth, Ivy Parkinson (Derek), Marion Ellsworth (Roy) and brother-in-law: John Lewis. Predeceased by father Andrew Ellsworth, mothers: Violet and Blanche, siblings: Mary Payne, Marjorie Ellsworth, Melvin Ellsworth (Grace), Ivan Ellsworth (Joan), Clifford Ellsworth (Esther), Shirley Lewis and a large number of nieces, nephews and friends. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Bob Sansome announce his passing at his residence on Thursday, March 10th, 2016 at the age of 71 years. He will be sadly missed by his wife Alice, his daughter Paula Sansome in Kippens, his son Paul (Danette) Sansome in St. John's, four grandchildren Alex, Austin, Kailey and Jillian. Also leaving to mourn his brother Norman (Maisie) in Summerside, four sisters Irvene (Ed) in Corner Brook, Elizabeth (Wilson) in Halifax, Beverly (James) in Corner Brook, Barbara Sansome in Toronto, his brothers and sisters at local UBC 1009 and a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Austin and Blanche and his brother George. Visitation will take place on Sunday, March 13th from 2-4 and 7-9 at Russell's Funeral Home in Stephenville. The funeral service will take place on Monday, March 14th, 2016 at 10 a.m. from St. Augustine's Anglican Church on Hillview Avenue in Stephenville. The family of the late Clyde Simmons regret to announce his passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Sunday, March 27, 2016 at the age of 82 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, his children: Vic (Georgina), Lorraine (Gary), and Clyde (Heidi Staeben-Simmons); his grandchildren whom he loved dearly: Christa Curnew (Jonathan), Stephanie Dawe (Christopher), and Stephen (Stephanie), Nadine Perrett (Bill), Michelle MacDonald (Darren), and Heather, Claire, and Kyle Simmons; his great-grandchildren: Avery, Nicholas, and Olivia, Andi, Hannah, Billy, and Jorja, and Ryland, Jeremy, and Lyndsay. Clyde will be missed by his brothers and sister, as well as a large circle of family and friends, especially his friends at the Lohnes Complex where he resided, and special family members, Hilda Simmons and Gerald Power. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Elsie (2011), and children, Robert (2008) and Perry (1970). Clyde will always be remembered for his love of the Newfoundland outdoors where he spent many years hunting, fishing and enjoying their cottage in Howley. He was a devoted family man and shared his love of nature with those around him. The family will be receiving friends at Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road on Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. from Country Haven Funeral Chapel, with Captains Cory and Pamela Pinksen officiating. On March 8, 2016 John Francis Tourout, age 81, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving and devoted family. John was born on April 12, 1934 to the late John and Catherine Tourout of Piccadilly, NL. He was also predeceased by his sisters: Nina Cornect, Pricellia Strickland; brothers: Cecil, Ray and Gus Tourout and grandson Jamie. John was always known as a hard worker taking on positions with the Army Base in Stephenville as a driver; working in the Smelt Fishery in Piccadilly; running Clearwater Fine Foods and trucking for Day & Ross. Having a keen mind for business, he established his own company Tourout Enterprises in 1976 and the Piccadilly Lounge in 1978. He was a great entertainer who loved fiddle music and spending time with family and friends playing darts, pool and cards. John also loved to cook and spend time outdoors moose hunting and fishing. He will be greatly missed and forever loved by his wife Marguerite; children: Robert (Florence), Richard (Riza), June (Joey), Mona (Roy), Katie (Jerry), Tina (Damien), Doug (Lucielle), Glenda (Glenn), Dervilla (Garette); loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren; brother Joey; sisters: Edna (Dave), Genevieve, Katheline (Pat), Mercedes (Alex), Anita (Charlie), Annie Mary (Russell) as well as other family and friends. To honor and respect John's wishes, cremation has taken place at Humber Valley Crematorium. The Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 from Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Piccadilly beginning at 2 p.m. with Father Jim Robertson officiating.
