It is with great sadness that the family of the late Weldon Abbott announce his passing at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Center in Stephenville Crossing on Wednesday, March 26th 2014 at the age of 84 years. He will be sadly missed by his three sons: David in Corner Brook, Charles in Stephenville Crossing and William (Jackie) in Ontario his daughters: Ann (Gerard) Grandy in Stephenville Crossing, Paulette (Rick) Perrin in New Brunswick, Bella (Mario) Campos in Ontario, Henrietta Abbott (Brian) in Alberta and Phyllis (Bob) Allan in Ontario. Also leaving to mourn are his nineteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents James and Annie Abbott, his loving wife Margaret, his brothers: Gordon, Roy, Harold, Woody and his granddaughter Sharlene Emma Abbott. Friends may call at Russell's Funeral Home on Station Road in Stephenville Crossing from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday March 28th 2014. It is with great sadness that the family of the late William Roy Alley announce his passing on Monday, March 24, 2014 at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Stephenville, NL at the age of 91 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife, Jessie; granddaughter, Erica (Dion) Gillam; great-granddaughter, Danielle; son-in-law, Eric Quilty; sister-in-law, Leona Alley; stepson, Don (Una) Gillam; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Beth Alley; first wife, Edna; daughter, Elaine; stepdaughter, Shirley Billard; sister, Regina Sheppard and brother, Vincent. Friends may visit St. George's Anglican Church, Robinson's, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday from where the funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Terry Rose officiating. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are, her husband Fred of 63 years; children: Roger, Vancouver, BC, Jane (Reg) McGrath, Kelligrews, Fred Jr. (Laura), Toronto, ON, Ada Swanson (Wayde Holloway), Niagara Falls, ON, Robert, Bedford, NS and Andrew (Cecile), Toronto, ON; seven grandchildren: Cory, Kevin, Donny, Brian, Clayton, Catherine, Patrick and their spouses; seven great grandchildren; sister Alma Guy (Frank); brother Fred Hull; sisters-in-law Elsie Humphries and Marion Hull; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her son Ted Barter, granddaughter Cleo Barter; parents Andrew and Ethel Hull, and brothers and sisters. Granting her wishes cremation has taken place. He will be sadly missed by his son William (Bill) and daughter-in-law, Kathy of Corner Brook; grandson, Jason (Deanne) Sharpe in London, ON and granddaughter, Jennifer (Scott) Falshaw in Iqaluit, NU and two beautiful great-grandchildren: Olivia and Owen Sharpe, London, ON. Also left to mourn is his sister, Sadie Crane in Oakville, ON; brother Raymond (Phyllis) Sharpe in Corner Brook; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Vera and Tom Murphy of Corner Brook and a circle of close relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife, Marie; brothers: John, Edwin and Donald and sisters: Mabel Janes and Marjorie Evis. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will take place on Monday, March 24, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at the Fillatre's Chapel, St. Mark's Avenue officiated by The Very Reverend Baxter Park. It is with deep sadness that the family of Brian, regret to announce his passing at Fort McMurray, Alberta after a long battle with Cancer. Leaving to mourn, his children: Jonathan, Stephen, Scott, Luke, Kristen; brothers: Clarence (Mercedes), Roger (Vera), Edward (Judy) Wade (Ivy); sisters: Leona Gillette (Erving), Kathleen Parsons (Joshua), Thelma Lynch (Joseph), Juanita (Nigel Baker) and Sherry. His best friend Byron Gilbert and a large number of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and many friends. One of his favorite things that he loved to do was to play his guitar and sing for them. He was preceded in death by parents, Heber and Matilda (nee Gilbert), brothers: Merrill, Louis, and Gary. Memorial Services will take place in Corner Brook at a later date. Cremation has taken place. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. O'Connor and staff of Northern Lights Hospital and Byron Gilbert, Fort McMurray, Alberta for their care and support in his final days.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Cyril John Sheppard announce his passing on Tuesday, March 4th, 2014 at his family residence in St. Peters, Nova Scotia in his 67th year. SIMMS, John Y.
John Y. Simms
died at Veteran's Unit of the Senior's Centre in Corner Brook on March 17, 2014. As a young man growing up in Corner Brook he attended the Corner Brook Public School and was a member of the Church Lads Brigade. During WWII he served in the Royal Canadian Navy. Following his discharge he worked as a merchant seaman on the S.S. Corner Brook. After leaving a maritime career he worked as an undertaker for Carnell's Funeral Home in Corner Brook. Upon returning from working at the Gear Paper Company in Toronto for six years he worked at Humber Motors Ltd. until his retirement in 1984. During his leisure time he enjoyed reading about pleasure crafts and ships, and spending time at the family cottage at Big Bonne Bay Pond. He was a long time member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 13. He is survived by his wife Muriel (Pike) of 67 years, their sons: Phillip and his wife Linda of Thornhill, Ontario, Barry and his wife Janet of Corner Brook, grand children: John and his wife Vanessa of Toronto, and William (Bill) and Chad of Corner Brook. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Frederick Pike and his wife Joan of St. John's, sister-in-law Fern and her husband Gerald Murphy, sister-in-law Maisie and her husband Freeman Brake, and sister-in-law Betty Simms of Corner Brook. He is also survived by a large circle of nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Green, his two half-brothers: Max Simms and Hubert (Rube) Simms and his step-sister Pearl Wells. A family and friends gathering will be held at the home of Barry and Janet Simms from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 1 Country Lane, Massey Drive. Final arrangements are entrusted to Russell's Funeral Home of Stephenville. At John's request, cremation has taken place with interment at a later date. Everett was the oldest of eight children born to William and Gertrude Squires in Corner Brook, NL. Everett worked at Clarke Steamship from 1953 until 1968 as pier superintendent. In 1968 he moved to Stephenville as Plant Manager for Atlantic Design Homes. He retired in 1993. Everett was very active in his church serving on several church boards for 12 years. He loved his cottage on the lake and hunting & fishing. He leaves behind his wife of 60 years Marina; daughters: Pauline (Paul) Sinclair, Lindsay, ON, Sandra (Paul) McCabe, Truro, NS, Carol (Perry) Bennett, Stephenville; grandchildren: Alex Thorne, Geoffrey (Tara) McCabe, Vanessa (Craig) Conran; great-grandchildren: Teagan McCabe, Eric Conran; brothers: Elmer (Pansy), Melvin (Rae), David (Betty), Dale (Sue), Wayne; sisters: Faye Simmonds, Hope (Ivan) White as well as a large number of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. Visitation will take place from Zion Pentecostal Church, Stephenville on Thursday, March 6, 2014 from 4 - 7 p.m. from where the funeral service will take place on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Moral Bess officiating. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gerald William Swyers announce his peaceful passing at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital on Saturday March 29th 2014 at the age of 73 years. He will be sadly missed by his son Michael Brook Naze in Ontario, his two brothers: Lloyd (Elaine) in Stephenville and Bertram (Sandra) in Smith Falls, Ontario, his two sisters, Canna Macedulski and Molly LeDrew both in New Jersey. He was predeceased by his parents Bert and Annie, his sister Lory March and his two brothers: Michael and Greg. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Doreen Tucker announce her peaceful passing on Saturday, March 15th, 2014 at the Palliative Care Unit at Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 77 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her devoted husband of 59 years, Gerald; her daughter Valetta; sons Glen (Cynthia), Todd (Janet) of Corner Brook; Jim of Claresholm, AB, Wayne (Janet) of Lethbridge, AB; grandchildren Joshua Canning, Jonathan (Heather) Canning, Robert Tucker, Mark Tucker, Ian Tucker, Laura Tucker and Zayn Tucker; brother Roy (Verna) Barrett and sister Geneta Organ of Sarnia , On; as well as a circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. At Doreen's request cremation has already taken place. A private family service will be held at a later date. A very special thank you to Mom's doctor of 27 years Dr. Robert J. Young for your dedication, compassion and support especially during Mom's recent illness. Also, thank you Dr. M. Dean and Dr. K. Lafferty as well as to the amazing staff of the Palliative Care Unit of The Western Memorial Regional Hospital who took such good care of her during her final days. Annie enjoyed life and will be remembered for her love of dolls, rides in the car, food, music, and books. She leaves behind her beloved sister and brother-in-law Donna and Calvin Allen, with whom she lived; brothers John of Corner Brook, Mike (Janie) of Halifax, Peter (Hilda) of Alberta; sisters Margaret Prosper of Corner Brook, Mary (Roy) McGowan of Alberta, Joan (Calvin) Winsor of Corner Brook, Eileen Ramdin of BC, Betty (George) Carscadden of BC, Sandy Quehe (Wayne) of Corner Brook. She is predeceased by her father John Vincent, mother Veronica (Madore); sister Dorothy Hamilton; brothers George, Joseph, Kevin Vincent; brothers-in-law Charles Prosper, Ron Ramdin, Clar Hamilton; sisters-in-law Loretta Vincent and Doreen Vincent.
