It is with great sadness that the family of the late Alonzo "Lonnie" Harold Abbott announce his passing at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, AB on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at the age of 56 years. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Patricia "Patsy" Abbott of Brampton; one daughter, Adrienne Abbott of Brampton; two sons, Christopher Abbott of Toronto and Michael Oryschak of Hamilton; one grandchild, Nathan. As well, Lonnie will be remembered by his mother, Geraldine Gale of Mississauga; aunts, Genevieve and Ellie Abbott of Boswarlos, NL and Florence Martin of Port au Port, NL; sister, Sandra (Paul Armstrong) McCarthy of Hamilton; brothers, Alexander "Sandy" (Elizabeth) Gale of Richmond Hill, Sean (Cari Keeling) Gale of Mississauga, Perry (Juanita) Gale of Oakville and Paul (Ada) Young of Peace River, AB and several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Alonzo was predeceased by his uncle, Raymond Abbott of Boswarlos, NL. Cremation has taken place. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Leonard's Church, 187 Conestoga Drive, Brampton, Ontario, on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held in Port au Port in the summer of 2012 (date to be announced). She will be sadly missed by 2 sons: Kevin (Betty) of Black Duck Siding, John (Shirley) of Stephenville, 3 brothers: Michael (Marie) of Black Duck Siding, Donald (Melvine) of Brampton, Ontario, Gordon of Black Duck Siding, 2 sisters: Lucy Colson of Stephenville, Kathleen Piercey of Stephenville, 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and a large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her father Lawrence Cormier. COMPAGNON, Joseph

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Joseph Valmour Compagnon announce his passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Saturday March 24, 2012 at the age of 78 years. Joseph Valmour slipped peacefully away Saturday morning after losing his battle to COPD. Born on Woods Island August 3rd 1934 and married Isabel Hackett June 24th 1955. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories the love of his life, his wife Isabel (Hackett) of 55 years and his 14 children, Valerie Lambert (Sherwin), Arlene Carmody (Charles), Sandra Park, Delores Roy (Paul), Alphonsus, Compagnon (Karen), Mary Costello (Steve Hewitt), Geraldine Whitely (Dave), Joseph Compagnon, Ben Compagnon, Michael Compagnon (Beatrice Tavenor), Peter Compagnon , Amelia Anne Locke (Darren) Viola Boardman (Brad) and William Compagnon (Tina), 19 grandchildren and 5 great great children who he adored more than words, three sisters, Geniene Pike (Vernon Russell) Vivian Quigley, and Rowena Gardiner and a large circle of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Loyola in 1998 and Geraldine in 2000, his infant sister Mary Yvonne and his son Garland in 1983. Cremation has taken place. DARRIGAN, Marilyn

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend, Marilyn Darrigan on March 8th, 2012 in Corner Brook, NL. Born in Corner Brook, she was a daughter of Jeremiah and Rose Hannah Darrigan. She immensely enjoyed reading and the studying of history and geography. She will always be remembered for her intelligence and sense of humor. Her only son, Stephen, and her grandchildren, Christina, Jeremy, and Stephen John, were the loves of her life. Marilyn is survived by her son, Lieutenant Commander Stephen Darrigan, Halifax, NS, daughter in law Sharon (Dunphy) Darrigan, and her cherished grandchildren, Christina (Mark) Darrigan Skinner, Stephen John Darrigan, and Jeremy Darrigan. She truly loved and was very proud of her two great-grandchildren, Anthony Darrigan and Sophie Skinner. She is also survived by her only beloved brother, Spencer (Rachel) Darrigan, Corner Brook; sisters, Hilda Soper, Corner Brook; Ada (John) O'Reilly, St. John's; Maisie Warford, St. John's and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Marilyn was predeceased by her sisters Edna and Mabel. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark's Avenue, Corner Brook. A funeral celebratory service will be held Wednesday, March 14th at 2:00 pm at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, 25 Main Street, Corner Brook with Archbishop Stewart Payne officiating. Passed away suddenly on Friday, March 2nd, 2012, Dr. Richard Harley, an extremely caring Radiologist and devoted husband. Leaving to mourn; his loving wife Kelly (nee Burt); his father: Dr. Brian Harley Sr.; sisters: Alison (Doug O'Keefe), Caroline (Tom Alteen) and Jacqueline; as well as his mother-in-law: Margaret; brother-in-law: Craig; sister-in-law: Belle (Duane) and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, colleagues and co-workers. She will be sadly missed by her husband Bernie, son Bernie Jr. (Lori), granddaughter Marissa, sister-in-law Joyce French, nephew John French (Leslie), niece Paula Mardel (Christian), great nieces and nephews: Bowen, Davin, Ryan and Jessica and numerous other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Harold and Martha French, brother Clarence French and sister-in-law Anne Marie MacNeil Masse. Mabel was a past member of The Corner Brook Bridge Club and The Blomidon Country Club. In death, as in life, she displayed a strength and confidence, born of faith and tried in the furnace, that has become hallmarks to all who knew and loved her. She died, as she lived, in quiet peacefulness, surrounded by those who meant everything to her in life. It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Gordon Joseph Staples in his 79th year. An avid outdoorsman who enjoyed just being in the woods he was a skillful angler and hunter. He excelled in many sports but most notably baseball, hockey and soccer. He gave back to the community through a lengthy tenure as a coach and president of the Corner Brook Minor Hockey Association. He was also an accomplished bridge player and enjoyed the challenges associated with this complex game. In his later years he enjoyed his time spent with his grandsons Gavin and Gordon and special friends Alex and Andrew Payne. Leaving to mourn his daughter Debbie (Johnny Brooks), Toronto; sons Bernie (Laeora Ryba), Steady Brook; and Kevin (Darlene Welsh) Corner Brook; grandsons Gavin and Gordon Staples; special friends Alex and Andrew Payne; Cody and Brittany Hutchings; brother Sylvester "Syb" (Louise nee Noseworthy) and sister Helen Hachè (Roger) as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his father John, mother Julia (Caines) and brother-in- law Roger Hachè. She was born in Boot Harbour but grew up here from the age of 4 years. She married Pius in 1943 and they built one of the first house on Mt. Bernard Avenue where they lived for 57 years. Vi worked in several businesses in Corner Brook through the years, was active in the church singing in the choir and a member of the CWL. She spent her last few years at Mountain View Estates where she was affectionately known as Lady Vi. She loved to play piano, to dance and sing and will be sadly missed. Leaving to mourn sisters-in-law: Gertrude Lavers, Eleanor Dobbin, Frances White and Velma Thistle; special nieces: Carol Snow and Colleen Thistle, as well as a large number of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. It is with great sadness that the family of Gladys Yates announce her passing at her home in Norris Pt, NL, on Saturday, March 24th, 2012, at the age 69 years. Gladys will be remembered for her unselfish concern for others, and her uncompromising love of her family, friends, and her God Jehovah. She will be missed by her husband; Fred, and her two children; David (Jennifer), and Leah (Jason) Roberts, her three sisters; Lerley (Rod,son Robby), Bryenton, Donna (Harvey,son Devin) Nisi, and Bonnie (Myles) McKenzie. Gladys will also be missed by her two grandchildren; Liam and Jonah Roberts, many nieces and nephews, and many, many friends. She was predeceased by her parents; Raymond and Bertha Diamond. We would like to thank all who showed their support fro Gladys and her family during her illness. A memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 31st, 2012 at 2: pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses located on Westlink Road, Rocky Harbour, NL. Georgia Kathleen "Kay" Noel Chason Yesionowski
, 90, of Fredericksburg, VA passed peacefully away Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA. Born October 13, 1921 in Woody Point, Newfoundland, Canada, where she taught school and served in the Royal Canadian Airforce Women's Division. After moving to Virginia in 1949 she taught in both Stafford and Spotsylvania County Public Schools. Kay was an active Auxiliary member of the Marine Corp League, Mickey Finn Hall and American Legion Post 290. Kay is preceded in death by her parents George and Anne Noel; a brother, Bert Noel; her first husband, Albert Houser Chason; her second husband, James Joseph Yesionowski; and her granddaughter, Autumn Rae Wheeler. She is survived by three daughters, Geraldine Chason Toombs and her husband, Lennie of Fredericksburg, VA, Barbara Chason and Bill Roberts of Corner Brook, NL, and Noelle Chason Hall of Woodford, VA; her brothers, Dick Noel and his wife, Jean of St. John's Newfoundland, and Howard Noel and his wife, Jane of Woody Pt., Newfoundland; a grandson, Aaron Chason Edward Wheeler of Louisville, KY; a granddaughter, Angela May Cooper and Kurt of Richmond, VA; her great-granddaughter, Sophia Aline Wheeler of Louisville, KY; and her friend and cousin since childhood, Dorothy Butt of St. John's, Newfoundland. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2012 at Aquia Episcopal Church in Stafford, VA. Interment will be private. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Cecil Young announce his passing at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville on Monday, March 5, 2012 at the age of 88 years. He will be sadly missed by his special friend Kay McCann and family; two sons: Bernard (Patricia) of Sudbury, Ontario, Cecil Jr. of Corner Brook; two daughters: Joan (Norbert) Alexander of Kippens, Marion (Wayne) Power of Calgary; two brothers: Adrian Young (Isabel) of Stephenville, Leonard (Jean) Young of Kippens; four sisters: Theresa (Roy) Cunning of Pasadena, Adele LeCoure of Kippens, Denota (Ralph) Comstock of USA, Bertha (Jim) Williams of USA; ten grandchildren: Keith, Wayne, Kevin, Michael, Scott, Tracy, Neil, Daniel, Jasmine, Jerrica; six great-grandchildren: Ethan, Ava, Chase, Mya, Jarrett, Easton and also leaving to mourn his second wife Ethel's family and a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife, Alice Maddox in 1999 and second wife, Ethel Young in 2008, brothers, Martin, Matthew and Maurice Young, sister, Geraldine Jonca, parents, Daniel Young and Mary Ellen Savidon. Friends may call at Russell's Funeral Home, 57 Prince Rupert Drive, Stephenville on Thursday, March 8th from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will take place at the Maria Regina Parish in Port au Port East on Friday, March 9th at 2:00 p.m. with interment in the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Port au Port East. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Maria Regina Parish Memorial Fund.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Sam Zreick announce his sudden passing on Sunday, March 4th, 2012 at Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 65 years. Left with precious memories is his wife of 37 years, Irene (nee Marshall); two sons: John (Sherrie), Paradise and Stephen (Jamie), Angus, On; four grandchildren: Abagayle, Jackson, Samira and Michael; mother-in-law: Alma Marshall; brothers and sisters-in-law: David Marshall (Linda), Chris Marshall (Janice), Pauline Thornhill (Don) and Madonna Eason (Ernie); as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Georgette Zreick and father-in-law: Frank Marshall. Friends may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue on Tuesday evening, 7-9:00 p.m. and Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, March 8th at 10:30 A.M. from the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer, Mt. Bernard Avenue with Monsignor Edwin Gale officiating. The interment to follow at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to Western Memorial Regional Hospital Foundation.
