Ben and Mary Rowsell
are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary today. They were married on March 1, 1954, at First United Church in Corner Brook. Greetings from their five children, Judy, Derrick, Linda, Keith and Cathy, 10 grandchildren and two great-granddaughters. An open house will be held today at their home, 86 Caribou Rd., friends and family are invited to drop by.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gwen Ada Shiner announce her sudden but peaceful passing on Monday, March 1st, 2004 at her family residence in her 72nd year. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories; her husband John; her children: Ken Hanna (Cathy) of Vancouver, BC, Diane Goulding (John) of Oshawa, Ontario, Terry Hanna (Sandy) of Naniamo, BC, Crystal Mooney (Bart) of St. Catherine's, Ontario; her grandchildren: Bruce, Jillian, Ryan, Heather, Tricia, Beth, Ian, and Jay; her brothers: Scott Campbell, Roy Campbell, Ken Campbell Jr.; her sisters: Hazel Manuel, Molly Nichols, Daisy Laramore, Renee Caines and Shirley Luther. Also a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Kenneth and Ada Campbell; brothers Jack and Murray Campbell, and her sister Betty Spence on February 19th, 2004. Visitation will take place from Parsons Funeral Home, 63 Northmain Street, Deer Lake today Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where also funeral service will take place on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the family plot. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parsons Funeral Home, Deer Lake.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Patricia Catherine (Barter) Hawkins announce her passing at her residence on Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at the age of 56 years. She will be sadly missed by her common-law husband, Cecil Young and three sons: Bobby Bennett of Gagetown, New Brunswick, Dale Bennett, Darren Bennett, both of Stephenville and one daughter, Alexandria Bennett of Brampton, Ontario. She will also be sadly missed by her three brothers and three sisters, seven grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. Cremation Service took place at Russell's Crematorium, Stephenville. Funeral Service will take place on Friday, March 5th at 10:00 A.M. from St. Stephen's Parish, West Street, Stephenville. Interment will take place in the Spring.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Georgina Caines announce her passing on Sunday, February 29th, 2004 at her family residence in her 71st year. She will be sadly missed by her loving husband Edward; her children: Sandy (Bernice), Brenda (Karl), Emma (Lloyd), Shirley (Larry), Ernie, Gary (Cindy), Eric (Wanda), Anthony (Bridgette), Susan (Jason), Joe (Cindy), and Valma (Paul); 19 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; one sister Evelyn (Gordon); and her sister-in-law Debbie. Also a large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her first husband John R. Keeping, parents George and Emma Blangdon, sister Mahala Lace, brother Ernie Blangdon and her grandson Robert Haines. Four grandchildren Joey, Kyle, Joshua and Jamie, one brother Freeman (Phyllis) of Seal Cove. Four sisters, Audrey Patey (fiancé Weldon Decker) of St. Anthony, Gaye (Reg Elliott) of Port au Ville, Jean Wells of Brampton, Ontario, and Yvonne (Wilfred Parsons) of Ontario. One brother-in-law Jim Parsons of Seal Cove, also a large circle of relatives and friends. On March 2, 2004 Mrs. Sharon Shears-Otten of Edmonton, Alberta passed away at the age of 58 years. She is lovingly remembered by her husband Klaus Otten; son Jagade Rolls; daughter-in-law, Karen Gerrard; two grandchildren: Alexander and Jordan; three brothers: Rod Shears, Ben Shears and Austin Shears; three sisters: Georgina Toms, Evelyn Tiller, Maxine Osmond; and special niece, Bernice Toms; also many other relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her parents, Richard and Olive; sister, Leila and brother, Rick. Crane, aged 76 years, in the presence of his daughter, Ann (Ian Roe) and son Maxwell (Cathy Andrews). Predeceased by his wife, Edith. Leaving to mourn his children; grandchildren: Gregory and Brian; brother Norman Crane (Penny); sister-in-law, Jean Andrews (Cecil) and Ruth Hawkins (Eric) plus a host of relatives and friends. Immigrated to Massachusetts in her 20's where she worked as a nurse. Married Robert Gillman in Boston and moved often between there and California during his 20-year naval career. They retired in Southern CA and after his death, she moved to Seattle, then to Gig Harbor. She is survived by her sons Robert (Patricia), and David (Suzanne) Gillman of Gig Harbor, and daughter Kathleen (Stephen) Appleyard of Normandy Park, and 7 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and brother Tom Gillam and sister Joyce Braye of Corner Brook, NFLD. age 56 years of Dartmouth died March 12, 2003 in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland he was a son of the late Raymond and Francis (Lundrigan) Wellon. He was a longtime active member of St. Paul's Church, and a 3rd degree member of St. Paul's Council Knights of Columbus. He was employed with Metro Transit for the past 29 years. He is survived by his wife the former Sylvia Bennett; a daughter Kelly (John) McCarthy, Lower Sackville, a son Kerry, Dartmouth, a grandson Taylor; six step sons: Joe Bennett, Carl, Wayne, Court, Mitch and Rick Connolly, as well as many step grandchildren, one brother Robert, Labrador. He was predeceased by a brother Ted. Visiting will be 7-9 p.m. Sunday and 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday in Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen Street. , age 59 years of West Palm Beach, Florida, passed away March 11, 2004. Born in Corner Brook, NL he was the son of Evangeline and the late Roland Darby. Leaving to mourn his mother Evangeline and brother Ray of Corner Brook; wife Wendy; son Joshua; daughters: Alyssa and Kate. Wayne was predeceased by his father Roland, brother Brian and sister Donna. Memorial services to be announced at a later date.

Passed away at his residence on Friday, March 26, 2004, Douglas Gallant at the age of 45 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his wife Mary Lou (nee Mallard); sons: Phillip Gallant and Glen Mallard; brothers: Joseph (Mary) of Curling, Roy of Alberta, Lorne (Sharon) of Curling, Gerald (Donna) of Ontario and George (Rosalind) of Curling; sisters: Linda (Rod) McIsaac of Mount Moriah, Betty (Paul) Caines of Pasadena and Rita (Chris) Pye of Mount Moriah; aunts: Elizabeth Frances, Blanche Anderson and Dorothy Hackett; mother and father-in-law Catherine and Kevin Mallard of St. John's; sisters-in-law: Linda (Reg) Simms of Ontario, Cathy (Wayne) Devereaux, Annette (Charlie) Crane all of St. John's; brothers-in-law: Kevin Mallard (Josee) of Calgary and Patrick Mallard (Debbie) of Bishop's Falls; and a large number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by parents: Felix and Monica Gallant, three brothers: Michael, Lawrence and Howard and two sisters: Mary and Sheila. Visitation will take place at Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road today from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday, March 28, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Services will take place at Our Lady Star of the Sea on Monday, March 29, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Buckle officiating. Interment at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Benoit's Cove. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Our Lady Star of the Sea. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Norman Hunter announce his passing on Saturday, March 27th, 2004 at the W.M.R. Hospital in his 56th year. He will be sadly missed by his common-law wife Pauline Rowsell. His step-son Johnny Sheppard. Five brothers: Abraham Hunter of Eastport, Headly Hunter of Hearts Delight, Herman (Margaret) Hunter, Arthur Hunter both of Eastport, and Samson Hunter of Bishop's Falls. Three sisters, Thelma (Ford) Powell of Happy Adventure, Lillian (Albert) Keats of Dover, Grace Keats of Dover. His special nephew Willie (Hazel) Reid of Reidville. Also a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents John and Annie Hunter, sisters: Beryl Reid, Dulcie Hunter, brothers: Clarence and Howard and step-brother Ethelbert Keats. Visitation took place from Parsons Funeral Home, 63 Northmain Street, Deer Lake on Sunday at 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place today Monday at 11:00 a.m. from the Anglican Church in Deer Lake with Rev. Barter officiating. Interment to follow at the family plot in Eastport, NL. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parsons Funeral Home, Deer Lake.

Our mother, Gertrude Matthews Park passed away on March 29, 2004. She leaves Douglas, her husband of 62 years and her children: Amy (Lee), Max (Rowena), Jimmy (Barbara), Wayne, Sharon (Ted), Janet (Terry), Dean (Janice), Danny (Sharon), Audrey (Glen), Peggy (Boyd) and Paul, as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Helen (Bernard) in 2002. Friends may visit St. James Church, Gillams on Tuesday starting at 2:00 p.m. from where the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 31 at 2:00 p.m. interment to follow at Mt. Patricia Receiving Chapel. In her good, long life, she was "Aunt Gertie" to many and had a large circle of friends. As expressions of sympathy, flowers or donations to the Janeway Children's Hospital would be greatly appreciated. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue, Corner Brook.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Thomas Head announce his sudden passing at his family residence on Monday March 22nd, 2004 in his 83rd year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 50 years, Evelyn (King); daughter Karen Newman (Ross) of Hughes Brook; son John (Norma) of Comfort Cove; three precious grandchildren: Jessica Head, Victoria Head and Joshua Newman; sister Florence Drover of Corner Brook; brother Herbert (Doreen) of Springdale and a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Stanley and Fanny Head, brothers: Lewis and Harvey and sister Joan Brett. The funeral service was held on Thursday March 25th, 2004 from the Salvation Army Corps in Comfort Cove with interment at the United Church Cemetery in Comfort Cove. The funeral arrangements were entrusted to Gordon Woolfrey Funeral Home, Lewisporte. As an expression of sympathy a memorial donation may be made to the Salvation Army Corps in Comfort Cove.

He will be sadly missed by his children: Dean (Theresa) Cooper of Goulds, NL, Doris (David) Ashton of St. Albert, Alberta, Donna Pilgrim (Stephen Brown) of Fort McMurray, Yvonne (Roy Jr.) Whalen, Audrey (Terry) Bennett, Sandra (Jerome) Fitzgerald all of Deer Lake; his grandchildren: Trevor and Jason Ashton, Paula Humphrey whom devoted her time to love and care for her grandfather, Darren Fitzgerald, Nikki Whalen, Teri Fitzgerald, Barbie Goobie, Cassandra Cooper, Shannon Whitlock, Deanne and Ian Pilgrim; his great-grandchildren: Brittany and William Humphrey and Ryan Fitzgerald; two brothers: Raymond (Winnie) Cooper of Trinity Bay and William (Gladys) Cooper of Queens Cove; one sister Mary (Harold) Hollett of Chance Cove. Also his special friend Barney. He also leaves to mourn a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth on September 6th, 2003, his parents Caleb and Rachel Cooper, his brothers Eli and Robert, his sisters Sarah Mae, Rebecca Jane and Deliah. Visitation will take place from Parsons Funeral Home, 63 Northmain Street, Deer Lake today, Tuesday at 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will take place Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. from the Salvation Army Church in Deer Lake with Captains Terry and Bonnie Hopkins officiating. Interment to follow at the family plot. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parsons Funeral Home, 63 Northmain Street, Deer Lake.
