It is with great sadness that the family of the late Clara Coleman announce her passing on Monday, January 31st, 2005 at the Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre at the age of 91. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her five children: Alice Keats, Corner Brook, Delilah (Irving) Fillatre, Barachois Brook, Linda Alexander, Stephenville Crossing; two sons: Frederick and Basil Hulan, both living in Toronto, Ont.; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren; two brothers: Chesley Moore and Frederick Moore of Nova Scotia. She is predeceased by husbands Cyril H. Hulan and Wallace Coleman; two sons: Augustus Hulan and Cyril C. Hulan; four sisters and one brother. Friends may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, West Street, Stephenville Crossing on Tuesday between the hours 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, February 2nd at 11:00 a.m. from the All Saints Anglican Church, Stephenville Crossing with Reverend Karen Laldin officiating. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Maxwell Canning announce his passing on Monday, January 31st, 2005 at the W.M.R. Hospital in his 75th year. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Evelyn. His children, Donna (Wade) Bungay of St. Anthony, Kathleen Ralph of Jackson's Arm, Terry Canning of Calgary, Brenda (Alvin) Gillingham of Norman's Cove, and Bonnie Arsenault of Ottawa. His step-children, Althea (Otto) Reid, Kaye (Lloyd) Waterman, Perry (Andrea) Canning, Shirley Canning and Keith (Melissa) Canning, nine grandchildren, nine step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Laura (Raymond) Combdon of St. John's and Martha Pardy of Lawrenceton. Also a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife Elizabeth in 1999, parents Isabella and Ambrose, and brother Harvey. Visitation will take place from the Anglican Church in Jackson's Arm today, Tuesday evening and Wednesday, where also funeral service will take place on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ranson officiating. Interment to follow at the family plot. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parsons Funeral Home, 63 Northmain Street, Deer Lake.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Johan Sparkes announce her passing on Sunday, January 30th, 2005 at the Bonne Bay Health Centre in her 76th year. She will be sadly missed by her loving children: Olive Legge (Clare Raynor) of Ajax, Ontario, David Sparkes (Shirley Snow) of Sackville, NS, Catherine Balsom (Kevin Power) of St. John's, John Sparkes (Violet Edwards) of Corner Brook, Trevor (Gail) Sparkes of Rocky Harbour; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; her sister Cathy (Angus) Blackstock of Kingussie, Scotland. Also a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Russell. Visitation will take place from the Anglican Church in Rocky Harbour today, Tuesday where also funeral service will take place on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. with Captain Ledrew officiating. Interment to follow at the family plot. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parsons Funeral Home, 63 Northmain Street, Deer Lake.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lloyd Thomas Bennett announce his peaceful passing at the residence of his niece, Theresa Colterman in Keswick, Ontario on January 14, 2005 at the age of 58 years. Left to mourn, his daughter, Tammy Bennett and his grandson Rowan Bennett, both of Scarborough, Ontario and his mother, Stella Bennett of Stephenville and sisters, Gen Boland of Stephenville, Claudia Mason of Texas, Marie Williams of Stephenville, Geraldine Bennett of Kippens and very special friend, Mary Cooper of Stephenville and a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father, Michael Charles Bennett. Funeral Service took place at the Royal Canadian Legion in Sutton, Ontario on January 23, 2005.

May 18, 1924 - January 29, 2005

Passed peacefully away in her 80th year at the Knollcrest Lodge in Milverton, Ontario on Saturday, January 29, 2005 after a lengthy illness with Alzheimer's disease. Left to remember her love of life, giving, laughter and music are her three children: Myrtle Johnson (Eric) of St. Thomas, Ontario, Rose Staples-Payne (Hughie) of Corner Brook and Daniel Coffin (Kim) of Ottawa, Ontario. Also left to remember her with fondness are her seven grandchildren: Lesley-Ann Staples, Kelli Staples, Danielle Staples, Krista Hodgson (Anthony), Kent Johnson (Kim), Lisa Johnson (Jim), Jared Coffin and two great grandchildren: Adam Staples and Camdon Coffin. She was predeceased by her husband Elias Giles Coffin on May 4, 1965 and her great grandson Aubrey Elias Johnson on January 5, 2005. Cremation took place in Ontario. A private family memorial service will be held in Port aux Basques at a future date.

Loving father of Rosanne Neilson-Gorr (Kelly), Pembroke, Erika Neilson, Ottawa, Heather Neilson, Beachburg and Nancy Neilson, Ottawa. He was predeceased by his wife Eileen (nee Goulding), in 1987, his daughter Vivian Marie, in 1953, his parents Robert and Emily Rideout and his three brothers, Sandy, Eric and Max. He will always be remembered for his charming wit and his unwavering sense of independence. He is survived by four sons: Michael (Alvina), Lawrence (Virginia), Aiden (Ida), Don (Theresa) and two daughters Joan (Robert Hynes) and Sheila; nineteen grandchildren, thirty seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; brother-in-law David Young and sister-in-law Gertrude Locke; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Ada, December 2000; daughter Lorena in 1969, grandson Richard in 2004, great-grandson Justin Joyce in 1999, brothers Jack and William, sisters Agatha Young and Mary Ellen Christopher. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Michael William George announce his passing on Monday, February 21st, 2005 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in his 91st year. Mike George, fondly referred to as Dad George was a dear father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather. He will always be remembered for his charming wit and his unwavering sense of independence. He is survived by four sons: Michael (Alvina), Lawrence (Virginia), Aiden (Ida), Don (Theresa) and two daughters Joan (Robert Hynes) and Sheila; nineteen grandchildren, thirty seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; brother-in-law David Young and sister-in-law Gertrude Locke; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Ada, December 2000; daughter Lorena in 1969, grandson Richard in 2004, great-grandson Justin Joyce in 1999, brothers Jack and William, sisters Agatha Young and Mary Ellen Christopher. 70th ANNIVERSARY

Arnold and Drucella Hulan
of Corner Brook are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary today. Arnold, originally from St. George's, and Drucella, of Jeffrey's, met at a local hangout in McKay's. They were married on this day in 1935 at the Orange Lodge in St. David's where they traveled across the brook from Jeffrey's by horse and sleigh. Arnold started his own retail business in the back porch of their home in 1942 and in 1956 built The Shop, as it was known to all in the community of Jeffrey's. He retired in 1983 after 41 years in business, and in 1989, the couple moved to Corner Brook where they still live in their own home. They have three children: Lindy (Elizabeth), Sharon (Eric), Darlene (Mike); seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Anniversary celebrations include a family dinner at the Glynmill Inn followed by an open house in their home at 7:30 p.m.
