DEATHS

MARDEL, Charles
McIver's and Corner Brook
(1920-2000)

The family of Charles Mardel would like it to be known that he died on Saturday, February 12, 2000. He celebrated his 80th birthday at the turn of the New Millennium on January 1st as he wished. Father left a wonderful legacy to his four children: Tina (Dan Stewart) and David (Paula Mardel) in Corner Brook; Kathy (Carson Park) in McIver's and Anton (Trish Mardel-Ferreira) in Woodhouse Eaves, England. His grandchildren: Peter and Beth Stewart, Ryan and Jessica Mardel, Mary, Larry and Vicki Park, John and Jason Grouchy, Tom and Ben Mardel-Ferreira and Anna McEnery and his great grandchildren: Jacob, Charlie and Finn McEnery in Loughborough, England will remember him fondly. Charles's body has been cremated and the family will distribute his ashes in their own special ways. Anyone wishing to donate formally in Charles's memory can do so through two of his favourite organizations, the (Canadian) National Institute for the Blind or the Gold Wing Road Riders Association Annual Ride for Sight Cavalcade. His son, David, and his grandson, Larry, will ride in this year's Ride for Sight carrying on Father's tradition. We would like to express our thanks to all the staff at Mountain View Estates, Dr. Young, Dr. MacKenzie and all the nurses at Western Memorial Hospital for the support and professionalism shown to Charles and the family. On Charles's behalf, the family asks everyone to remember him during the happy times. In honour of his life from the London Theatre Company in England, to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Newfoundland, we offer the following Actor's Eulogy: Prospero: You do look, my son, in a moved sort, as if you were dismayed: be cheerful sir. Our revels are now ended. These our actors, as I foretold you, were all spirits and are melted into air: and like the baseless fabric of this vision, the cloud-capp'd towers, the gorgeous palaces, the solemn temples, the great globe itself, yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve and, like this insubstantial pageant faded, leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff as dreams are made on, and our little life is rounded with a sleep. Sir, I am vex'd; bear with my weakness; my old brain is troubled: be not disturb'd with my infirmity: If you be pleased retire into my cell and there repose: A turn or two I'll walk, to still my beating mind.
