KING, James Ronald "Jim"
Passed on: January 22nd, 2017

It is with deep sadness we said goodbye to son, husband, brother, father, uncle, granddad and friend, James Ronald King, of Berwick, Nova Scotia on January 22, 2017, passing peacefully with his wife, Marjorie beside him. Born in 1946, Jim celebrated his 70th birthday this fall without any great fuss made, but with the satisfaction of years well lived. In addition to his wife Marjorie, Jim is survived by his mother Myrtle; daughter Adrienne (Jon) as well as four beloved grandchildren, Payden, Douglas, Julian and Tessa; sister Barb (Brad); aunt Eloise; nieces and nephews Susan, Heather, Kevin and Taylor; cousins Elizabeth, Wayne, Janice, Paul and Denise; sister-in-law Elaine (Ken) Roscoe; valued friends and former colleagues. He was predeceased by his father William King; a grandson Matthew. There was never a time in Jim's life where he wasn't teaching or learning. Jim was a beloved educator and principal within the province of Newfoundland, before retiring to Nova Scotia. Jim was also a gifted writer and lover of theatre. For the past two years Jim was pursuing his Masters in English. Jim wrote many articles and letters to the editor, which have appeared in various newspapers within Newfoundland. Upon moving to Nova Scotia, he continued this trend with hockey articles and an Exploring Beliefs column in the Valley Harvester, and they gave him great satisfaction. Jim volunteered for the Hockey Hall of Fame in Newfoundland and upon moving to Nova Scotia that same interest led him to volunteer with the three Valley Wildcats teams. Jim had varied interests ranging from sport and musical instruments to collecting hockey cards, acquiring memorable art pieces and volunteering. And whatever he was interested in, he was all-in. So much of Jim's life involved music whether it was collecting, playing, or listening to countless artists. An avid home cook, Jim enjoyed experimenting with flavors and unusual ingredients. Much to the delight of his wife, there was generally something amazing to eat if Jim had a hand in creating it. And even if Marjorie was the chef that evening, Jim was official taster before the dish was complete. Jim was a man of few words, but was so often witty and sarcastic given the groundwork to speak. He will be missed fiercely by those closest to him, but we will celebrate a life very well lived for a man who wanted to be a hermit. All are welcome to attend a casual celebration of life gathering, with refreshments, at the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, between the hours of 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2017. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Berwick Town Library, the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of your choice. We would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Todd and her team, the VON, Emergency Room personnel, the Hematology Department in Halifax and so many people who have given great care to Jim and Marjorie. Arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville, Nova Scotia. Online inquires and condolences may be directed to www.whitefamilyfuneralhome.com
