It is with great sadness that the family of the late Elizabeth Anstey announce her passing at Corner Brook Long Term Care on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at the age of 94 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her son Tom (Sandra); daughter-in-law Ivy; grandchildren Todd (Nancy), Lisa (Bobby), and Nadine; step-grandchildren Brent (Tamara), Jennifer (Frank), and her adored great grandchildren. She will be missed by her nieces, nephews, friends and her special niece Ena Hull. Mom was predeceased by her husband Allan; son David and her sister Alice Spencer. Visitation will take place at Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. from St. John The Evangelist Anglican Church with Arch Bishop Stewart Payne officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the C.N.I.B or the Children's Wish Foundation. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Percy Barry announce his passing at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville, NL on Monday, January 18, 2016 at the age of 76 years. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Betty Yetman; children: Fabian (Tracy) Barry, Beverly (Curtis) Brown; six brothers: Aiden (Jane) Barry, Gordon Barry, Joe (Mary) Barry, Wayne (Susan) Barry, Terry (Emma) Barry, Ronnie Barry; seven sisters: Margaret (Hubert) Rowe, Alvina (Jim) Booth, Marina Barron (Rick), Sheila Williamson (Jim), Delia (Richard) Oulton, Loretta Barry (Doug), Josephine Barry (Cliff) and a host of extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his first wife Margaret MacPherson-Barry; his daughter Madonna Barry; sister Geraldine (George) Legge, mother Nora Brown-Barry (Arsene) White and father William Barry. Cremation has taken place at Humber Valley Crematorium. Visitation will take place from St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Heatherton on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. The Funeral Mass and inurnment will take place in July of 2016. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Arthur Batstone announce his passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer, on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at the age of 70 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and precious memories his loving wife of 46 years, Ruby Eileen (nee Hussey); son Tyrone (Robin); grandchildren: Hannah, Ethan and Faith; sisters and brothers: from the Batstone family, Stella Stevens, Roy (Donna), Irving (Gertrude) and from the Norman family: Stella (Francis), Nora (George), Jenny, Sharron, Ruby (Roland), Donna (Roy), Roy (Anita) and Irving; sisters and brothers-in-law from the Hussey family: Shirley, Doreen (John), Gertie (Reginald), Stanley (Linda), David (Judy) and Clarence. Also a large circle of nieces, nephews and special little ones Sophia, Sienna, and Josiah, to whom he was known as "Diddle Pop". He was predeceased by parents Martin and Mary (nee Wiseman); sister Esther Norman; sisters-in-law Ruby Batstone and Dorothy Boone; brothers-in-law Shirley Norman, Donald Stevens, Ronald Manual and Ronald Hancock; nephews: Richard and Robert Batstone, Richard Norman and Randy Manual; father and mother-in-law Albert and Donna Hussey; uncles: William Batstone, Arthur, Alexander, Theodore and Ralph Wiseman. Prior to his illness, Arthur lived a fulfilling life travelling, camping, fishing, and playing guitar. He was a hardworking, true family man and spent 27 years employed with Newfoundland and Labrador Housing. After a courageous battle with cancer, Bob passed away peacefully at Western Memorial Hospital in his 66th year on Thursday, January 7th, 2016. He will be sadly missed by his daughters Martina Hackett (Paul) and Kerri-Lee Silmarie (Alex); his grandchildren Garrett and Chelsea Hackett; his great-grandsons Caden and Kylan Hackett; sister Debbie Burton (Gerry); the mother of his children Leona Batstone; brothers-in-law Arch Mitchell, Brian (Leona) and Don Connolly; sisters-in-law Marie Reddy (Neil), Sandra Meaney, Mary Hackett (Dave), and Gertie Pederson (Paul); special friend Jack Duffney, and a large circle of nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Hayward and Marguerite Batstone; sister Kim Mitchell; father and mother-in-law Tony and Della Connolly, and his brother-in-law Bern Connolly. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Melissa Jane Bennett (nee Dean) announce her passing on Monday, January 25, 2016 at the age of 70 years. She will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 52 years, David; her eight sons: David, Ches, Bill (Dana), Roger, Lennie (Pam), Jamie (Victor), Dwayne and Jody (Chantelle); her five daughters: Tammie (Murdock), Lisa (Dylmer), Tina (Peter), Kathy (Greg) and Dianna (Scott). Melissa will be missed by a large number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends. She will also be missed by brothers Anthony (Karen) and Leonard; sisters Bev and Lila (Doug) of Nova Scotia. She is predeceased by her son Gregory Dean (2001); father Lester (2001); mother Ethel (2015) and brother Leland. Visitation will take place at Country Haven Funeral Home, 167 Country Road on Tuesday and Wednesday between the hours of 2-4 and 7-9 pm. BILLARD, Betty

Passed on: January 14th, 2016

Surrounded by her loving family, Betty passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 14th 2016 at the age of 73 years at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her devoted husband of 50 years, Austin, her daughter Karen (Sean) Flynn, and grandson Ethan (Nan's little man - the center of her world). She will also be sadly missed and forever remembered by her sister Helen (Will) Strickland in Harbor Breton, sister-in-law Diane (Brian) Munden in Harbour Le Cou and a very large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Lillian and Alexander Hynes, brother Sandy, sister-in-law Irene, nephew Rick Hynes, and father and mother-in-law Simeon and Maud Billard. Betty will never be forgotten, she will always be remembered for her constant love and devotion to her church community. Betty was a beautiful woman with an infectious smile and a heart of gold. She had a long career with the College of the North Atlantic and played a part in many service organizations throughout her lifetime. She was a strong advocate of many causes but none were closer to her heart than autism. Betty made a lasting impression on all who knew her - she showed courage, determination and generosity in all that she undertook and was an inspirational leader. Throughout her battle with cancer she continued to inspire many with her strength, her determination and her faith. Visitation will take place on Saturday from 2-4 and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 at Russell's Funeral Home in Stephenville Crossing. The funeral service will take place on Monday, January 18th 2016 at 2 p.m. from Assumption Parish on Hospital Road in Stephenville Crossing. Burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Betty's memory to the Autism Society Newfoundland and Labrador, Western Region.

Passed peacefully away surrounded by his loving family, Robert George Bonnell at the Bay St. George Long Term Care, Stephenville Crossing on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at the age of 94 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his sons: Lloyd, Arch "Roy" (Gwyneth), Keith (Sharon) and Glenn (Carolyn); grandchildren: Heidi (Joseph), Kip, Rebecca (Gerald), Simon (Catherine), Zachary, Laura, Amber and Allison; great-grandchildren: Owen, Oliver, Bennett and Jonah; sisters: Joyce, Anna (Charles) and Vera (Stan); brothers: Leo (Marion), Tom (Masie), Lowell (Pam) and George (Donna); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his loving wife Rita (Ayers), father Leo Robert Bonnell, mother Hannah, step-mother Julia Bonnell, brothers Lewis, Reginald and Bert, sisters Ella, Ivy and Jessie. Born in Lamaline, NL, Robert moved to Corner Brook and was a long time employee of Bowaters and was well known for his devotion to his wife, Rita, family and friends, his generosity, and his musical talents. He leaves to mourn his furry little friend Gizmo; son Reginald; daughter Kimberly (Derek) Vanderburg; grandchildren, Jacob, Owen, and Andrew; sisters Betty Kelly, Cora Mosher (Bob), Janet Sherlaw (Thom), Judy Hammond (Monroe), and Eileen Boudreau (Donny); as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Violet Brockway; sister Mary (Clifford) Keough; brothers, Noble, Donald, and Melvin; brother-in-law Mike Kelly and his best friend Buckle. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Ada (Poole) Burry announce her passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the age of 98 years. She will be sadly missed by her sons: Terry Poole (Marion), Aaron Poole (Lorna); step-children: Louise Poole, Helen Burry, Ruby (George) Dunphy, and Al (Edith) Burry; brother: Fred Tipple; grandchildren: Sue Ellen, Stephanie and Andrew Poole; great-grandchildren: Zoe, Colin and Alexander Poole; as well as a number of step-grandchildren, Step great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lillian Caul announce her passing at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at the age of 92. She is survived by her two sons Donald (Odelia) and Robert (Pauline) both of Stephenville, three daughters, Tina (Kelly Smith) of Prince George, B.C., Lisa (Garland Hann) of Estevan, SK and Gloria Hynes of Regina SK. As well as her fifteen grandchildren, Ema, Gia, James, Jason, Sonya, Sherri, Christyn, Kristen, Corey, Stephan, Jamie, Penney, Jeremy, Glen and Lynn. Also survived by one sister Kitty Clemnes of Petty Harbour, NL. She was pre-deceased by her husband James, her son Ronald, her three daughters, Karen, Lorraine and Dawn as well as her parents Ronald and Doris, siblings Ronald, June and Valda. The family will be receiving friends at Russell's Funeral Home, 57 Prince Rupert Dr. Stephenville from 7 - 9 pm on Thursday, January 7, 2016. Funeral services will take place at Russell's Funeral Home Friday, January 8 at 2 p.m. With interment to follow in the Hillside Interfaith Cemetery on the Hansen Highway. A special thank you to the staff of the Bay St. George Residential Long Term Care facility in Stephenville Crossing in which Lillian was a long term resident of. She was a loving mother, grand-mother, great-grandmother and sister. Leaving to mourn with fond and precious memories, her sons, Derrick (Bonnie) and Clayton (Patricia); daughters, Joan (Joe) Northcott and Sandra (Harold) Northcott; 6 grandsons; 6 grand-daughters; 11 great-granddaughters; 4 great-grandsons; 1 great-great-granddaughter; sisters, Rowella (Dick) Layden and Verna Roberts; brothers, Dorman (Ella), Don (Shirley), and John (Rita), as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Everett (1977); son Bryce; daughter Anne; son-in-law Bud (Wiseman); parents John and Minnie Locke; brothers, Ellis, Otto, Wallace, Maxwell, Clayton, and Eric. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: Donna (Scott) Thomas, Calvin (Alice), Cordell, Jim, her grandchildren: Shawn (Julia), Christine (Christopher) Langdon, Laura (Colin) Anderson, Lucas, and Donovan, great-grandchildren: Nathan, Kylie, Kiera, Alexandria, Corbin, Noah, and Caelyn, her sister: Julia and family, special friend: Mrs. Debbie King. DEVINE, Father Aidan
Born: November 7th, 1943

Passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at the Labrador Health Centre in Happy Valley - Goose Bay, Father Aidan Devine at the age of 72 years. Father Devine was ordained on May 25, 1969 at Holy Heart Seminary, Halifax, NS. He served in the role of either Curate, Associate Pastor, Administrator or Pastor of St. Stephen's Parish in Stephenville, Holy Family Parish in Port au Choix, St. Joseph's Parish in Harbour Breton, St. Columcille Parish in St. Fintan's, Assumption Parish in Stephenville Crossing, Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Piccadilly, Sacred Heart Parish in Conche, St. Joseph's Parish in St. George's, Immaculate Conception Parish in Deer Lake, and Maria Regina Parish in Port au Port. He also ministered to the people of the Codroy Valley and Port Saunders. At the time of his death, Father Devine was Chancellor of the Diocese of Corner Brook and Labrador, as well as Pastor of Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. In addition to his Bachelor Degree in Theology, Father Devine, in 1992, received a Master in Canon Law, conferred jointly by the University of Ottawa and Saint Paul University. He was predeceased by his parents Alphonsus and Estelle (Kelly) Devine, He leaves to mourn his brothers: Gerard Devine, Toronto, Ontario and Brendan (Valerie) Devine, Ottawa, Ontario; niece and nephews: Andrea, Christopher, Matthew, Jeremy, Matthew and Luke; as well as Bishop Peter Hundt, his brother priest and parishioners throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 24 from the hours of 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. from Fillatre's Funeral Home, Happy Valley - Goose Bay. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 25 at 10:00 a.m. from Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish, Happy Valley - Goose Bay with Bishop Peter Hundt officiating. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Anthony (Tony) Gash on January 16, 2016 at the age of 70, in Ottawa, ON in the presence of his family and loved ones. Leaving to mourn in his absence are his wife Judith (O'Brien); his children Todd (Colette), Kelly (Matthew) and Michael (Kirsty); his grandchildren Nicholas, Allison and Kaitlyn; his siblings Teresa, Father Joe and Tim (twin brother) and sister-in-law Ann (James). Tony was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Annie Gash; and his siblings James, Augustine, Susan and Marie. An accountant by vocation, Tony's true passions in life were his family and friends through sailing, skiing and music. This continued in a retirement of entertaining as he cruised the Eastern seaboard from NL to the Bahamas and skied the mountains from Marble Mountain to Whistler, BC, all while making amazing friends who became extended family. Tony was loved and respected by all who came in touch with him and will be forever in our hearts. A cremation has already taken place, with a memorial service and celebration of his life to follow in Corner Brook at a date to be determined in summer 2016. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Beatrice Lorraine (Legge) Hicks announce her passing on January 11, 2016, in Prince George, B.C. Beatrice was born April 28, 1942 in Deer Lake, Newfoundland. Left to mourn are daughter Marina Broessler (Michael) and their sons; son Kevin (Michelle) and daughters; son Jerry (Michelle): her sisters Pearl, Jean, Ruby, Deborah and brother Eric, her late husband's siblings and their spouses and children who were close to her, as well as nieces, nephews and friends. Beatrice was predeceased by her husband Kevin 2006, father Isaac Legge 1992 and mother Jessie, nee Dinney, 1999. As soon as she was old enough, Beatrice was babysitter for the neighbours. After marriage and the arrival of her three children, she developed new interests. Cooking and baking were her favourites, to the point where, later on, she was cook for many years at the Prince George Correctional Centre where she was known as "Miss Bea." During quiet time, she crocheted gifts for family members and loved playing crib with Kevin. There was always music in the home. Kevin played his guitar and Beatrice loved to sing along.

Passed away peacefully at Chancellor Park, St. John's in her 100th year on January 18, 2016. Predeceased by her husband Eric (1989); daughter Maisie Lorraine Clarke (2015); son-in-law Donald Clarke (2012); nine siblings, including Laura Butler, Deer Lake (2015). Left to mourn are her children Eric/Bud (Betty) Bay Roberts; Jean (Jerry) Rex, Corner Brook; Fred (Linda) Spruce Grove, Alberta; Bob (Elaine) Mount Pearl; Sue (Phil) Quinlan, St. John's. Others who miss her are her 24 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Enid obtained her Teaching Certificate in 1935 from Memorial University College and after raising a family continued her career as the first teacher for the Vera Perlin School in Bay Roberts. she later taught kindergarten at Coley's Point until her retirement. Her interest in life beyond her family and teaching was her garden and her church. She was a longtime member of the Board of Management, Session and UCW in Clarke's Beach, as well as a Sunday School teacher. She was an avid reader, and it has been said that she has read every book in the Bay Roberts library. She was admired for her sense of humour, her patience, her positive outlook and encouragement she gave to others.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Amelia Nichols announces her passing on January 23rd, 2016, at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Palliative Care Unit in Corner Brook in her 94th year. She leaves to mourn with loving memories her son William (Janet) and daughter Rosalind (Richard), grandchildren Kenyon and James, great-grandchildren Austen, Jensen, Gage, and James, chosen adopted family Carol and Fred Lim (Corner Brook), their sons Christopher and Jonathan and granddaughter Sophie, sisters Virtue, Cassandra, Anne, brother Wesley and many nephews, nieces and friends plus special family Thomas (Doris) Shepherd. She was predeceased by loving husband Bruce Nichols in 1988, granddaughter Tara Nicole, sisters Rhoda, Elsie, Minnie, Dora, Francis, brothers Walter, Arthur, Sandy, George. Amelia was a life time member of the UCW at St. Paul's United Church and was known and loved as AUNT MILLIE by many. She was the unofficial historian for the Nichols family for a long time. She was instrumental in starting the volunteer program at Deer Lake Manor. Very special thanks to Grace (Melvin) Nichols for providing a lifeline to Amelia over the years and to Carol (Fred) Lim for supporting Amelia over the years. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Margaret Slaney announce her passing at her residence on Saturday January 9th 2016 at the age of 79 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband of 59 years, Robert, daughters Cathy (Terry), Janet (Paul), Sharon (David), her sons Wayne (Sheila), Gary (Mee-Ling) David (Peggy), Robert Jr. Also leaving to mourn are her 15 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, sisters Sylvia, Jean, Bernice, brother Gordon and a large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Annie and Fred Brown, sister Joan, brothers Roy, Hedley, Gerald and her grandson Jakob. Marg loved to volunteer as a member of the Lioness Club and helped start St. Vincent De Paul. She was a renowned cook and loved to dance, sing and make people laugh. Visitation will take place at Russell's Funeral Home on Tuesday January 12th from 7-9 p.m. The funeral will take place on Wednesday January 13th 2016 at 10.a.m. from St. Augustine's Anglican Church on Hillview with interment at a later date. After the funeral service the family will be having a reception at the Lion's Club on Woodland Avenue. Marg's family would like to thank Western Health nurse Tatum Ryan, Dr. Verma, Dr. Lafferty for their care and support during Marg's illness. WISEMAN, Marie "Dennie" Denver (nee Connolly)

It is with a very heavy heart that we announce the passing of Marie "Dennie" Denver Wiseman (nee Connolly) who passed away peacefully on January 6, 2016 at the Foothills Country Hospice in Okotoks, Alberta at the age of 73 years. We are so very sad to see Dennie go, yet at the same time so very happy to know that she finally has the peace she needed and deserved. Left to celebrate and remember Dennie's life are her son John; grandchildren Caleigh and John Will; sisters Kit (Don), and Arleen (Fred); brothers Roy and Bruce (Connie); and many brothers and sisters-in-law, family and friends. Dennie was predeceased by her husband Gerald; parents Michael and Lucy (nee Mitchell) Connolly; and brothers Gerald, Cort, Karl, and Richard. Dennie was born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland on September 13, 1942. Dennie was educated as a Registered Nurse, and worked at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook, Newfoundland for many years before retiring to move to Alberta in 1993. At this time the family would like to thank the staff of the Foothills Country Hospice, Foothills Hospital Palliative Care Unit, and the South Calgary Dialysis Team for the wonderful care they provided Dennie. A Celebration of Dennie's Life will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Holy Rosary Parish in Pasadena, NL at 2 p.m.
