Funeral Mass was held from St. Patrick's Church, St. John's, on Wednesday, January 16, 2013. The mass was a beautiful and sad event ... the church was full -- family, friends, Aliant co-workers from across the province and cadets. The funeral home was full of people saddened and shocked by Sean's death. We have heard so many stories of Sean's smile all the time, his ability to do anything, his willingness to help friends and co-workers any time, his love of Deanne, Luke and Nicole and what a good father, leader, husband, son and role model he was with a sense of adventure, fun, spirituality and service. He was truly, as Hedley Smith put it ..."a shining light". We saw amazing pictures of Harley Davidsons and snowmobiles and concerts with Deanne and couple friends and listened and danced to ACDC and so much other music he loved. At the reception following the funeral mass at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56, Pleasantville, Sean was recognized by the Canadian Forces and sea cadets. Back in Corner Brook on Friday afternoon in Palliative Care at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, we remembered Sean with prayer and celebration with mother Madge, and local family. We got to know so much about Sean in the days since his death. Our hearts ache for Deanne, Luke and Nicole and all those whom he touched. His impact was far-reaching and he will be sorely missed, remembered and celebrated always. Many thanks to all those who shared stories, condolences and time as well as donations and flowers. Donations in his memory may be made to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56, the Canadian Mental Health Association, NL or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador.

He was well known to the legal community as he was always available to the RCMP and court system as a Justice of the Peace. Residents of Colonial Avenue were used to seeing an RCMP vehicle in his driveway. Donald was a master storyteller and always laughed along with the listener at his own stories. Deeply rooted in family, he was always interested in the education and accomplishments of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Self-described as the "Jack Benny of Stephenville", he was in fact, generous to a fault. Resting at Russell's Funeral Home, Stephenville. Visitation to take place on Sunday, January 6th from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral mass to take place on Monday, January 7th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen's Church. Donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
He was a man. Take him for all in all.
I shall not look upon his like again.
