ALEXANDER, Mr. Martin
It is with great sadness that the family of the late Martin Alexander announce his passing at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospial on Friday, January 1st, 2010 at the age of 91yrs. He will be sadly missed by his wife Jenesta, three sons, Bert (Marie), Michael (Shirley) and Bruce all in Kippens, one daughter Pamela AuCoin in Brantford, Ontario. He also leaves with fond memories his brother Richard in Aguathuna, his sister Madaline Marche in the Bay St. George Long Term Care Centre in Stephenville Crossing along with nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. Cremation has taken place. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, January 5th, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. from St. Stephen's Parish on West Street with interment in the Hillside Interfaith Cemetery on the Hansen Highway. Friends may call at Russell's Funeral Home 57 Prince Rupert Drive on Monday from 7-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Marion Allen announce her passing on January 25th, 2010, at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital at the age of 89 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband of 67 years, John W. Allen, and her children: Marlene (Bert) Kennedy, Ontario, Derek (Delores) Allen, Halfway Point, Wallace (Bev) Allen, Ontario, Doug Allen, Corner Brook, Glenys (Fred) Park, McIver's, Linda (Arch) Park, McIver's, Bill (Sylvia) Allen, Corner Brook, Elizabeth (Frank) Anstey, Mount Moriah, Baxter (Gaye) Allen, Ontario, Gloria (Joey) Lavers, Ontario and Byron (Louise) Allen, Meadows; 18 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Sophie Bartlett, Corner Brook, Nina Rock, Ontario and Audrey Collins, Corner Brook; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation was held at Fillatre's Funeral Home, 218 Curling Street on Tuesday evening, 7-9:00 p.m., and Wednesday, 2-4 and 7-9:00 p.m. The Funeral service will take place on Thursday, January 28th, at 2:00 p.m. from St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church, Curling. Reverend Karen Laldin Officiating. The Interment will follow at Mt. Patricia Cemetery. He is survived by his second wife, Helen (Besaw) and one son, Wendell (Marion) of Stephenville, two daughters: Milissa (Louie) of Brantford, Ontario, Faith (Robbie) of Thunder Bay, Ontario, one brother, Stanley Bourgeois of Kippens, one sister-in-law, Deloris (Lol) Bourgeois of Kippens, five grandchildren: Yolanda, Sarah, Amanda, Jordan, Daniel and one great-grandchild, Olivia, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was the son of Lillian Coates-Dinney and the late Sergeant Truman Ward Coates. Leaving to mourn are: his mother, Lillian; his sisters: Novalee Coates (Darryl Drover), Lorrieann Coates (Jerry Saulter) and Shelley Coates (Mike Singh); his grandmother, Mrs. Gladys Coates MacWilliam; his nieces and nephews: Justin Drover, Hannah Drover, Carley Saulter, Allie Saulter, Daniel Saulter (Godson), Elliott Singh and Rachel Singh, and his former wife, Annie Vignola. Passed away peacefully on January 8, 2010 at the County General Hospital, Welland, Ontario, in his 86th year, Edward (Ned) Hawco (a former resident of Campbell's Creek for 65 years). He was the beloved husband of Marg for 65 years. Dearly loved father to Peggy (Claude), Junior (Rita), Pat, Bernice (George) and Alex. Cherished grandfather of Cathy (Claude Vachon), Cynthia (Dan), Amanda (David), Sara, Leanne (Sean), Cheryl, Alex Oliveira (Alicia), Christine (Bill) and Candice. Loving great-grandfather to Leanne (Matthew), Katie, Holly, Gillian, Cassandra, Elyssa and Brendan. Born in Chapel's Cove to the late Bridget and Edward Hawco Sr. He came to the West Coast to work on the American Base, then later at the Aguathuna Quarry. He owned and operated taxis in Stephenville and lastly owned and operated Hawco's School Bus for many years - bussing children to Holy Cross School, Father Joy Memorial and Bishop O'Reilly High. Hawco was predeceased by his parents; brothers: Gerald and Jim; sisters: Mary and Catherine; his father, mother, sister and brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews and many dear friends. He was a beloved brother to Clarance and Philip; dearly loved brother-in-law to John, Litty, Joe and Betty MacDonald, Max Brace, uncle and friend to many. Family and friends were received at the Welland Funeral Home on January 10th, 2010. The funeral mass was held at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, Welland, Ontario, on January 11, 2010, followed by cremation. The family will hold a Memorial Mass on August 3, 2010 at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Campbell's Creek which their dad helped to build. She is predeceased by her sister Margaret Crowley and leaves one sister, Teresa Lafitte (Jim) of Stephenville. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Bertina McIsaac announce her passing at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Stephenville on Sunday, January 27, 2008 at the age of 96 years. NUGENT, Dr. Sherwin Thomas - 71.
Passed away January 13, 2010 in Halifax. Born in St. John's, N.L. Predeceased by parents Ellen and Philip Nugent. Survived by wife Georgina (Dooley), daughters Ellen (Ainslie) and Gail, brothers Tony (Ursula) and Gary (Patricia). Sherwin was educated at Memorial University of Newfoundland, the Technical University of Nova Scotia, the University of Toronto, and received his Ph.D from the University of New Brunswick in 1967. Following post-doctoral studies at the University of British Columbia (1967-1968) Sherwin joined the Physics Department at Dalhousie in 1968 as an Assistant Professor. During his academic career he taught physics and electrical engineering at Dalhousie and the Technical University, retiring in 2004. He served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Dalhousie from 1998 to 2004. Sherwin's research was directed towards a Mathematical Model of the Infant Respiratory System and published over 52 papers on that and related subjects in scientific and medical journals. In addition he supervised several students pursuing Master's and Doctorate degrees. His research was supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council, and the Nova Scotia and New Brunswick Heart Foundation. He also took an active part in the Canadian Atlantic Section of the Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, serving as chairman of that organization in 1982-1983. Sherwin was also a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia. Colleagues will remember Sherwin as a dedicated teacher and researcher who approached every task with a keen mind, analyzed the problem thoroughly, and made important contributions to Biomedical Engineering. PECKFORD, Mr. Arthur (Art)
Passed peacefully away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital, Gander on January 15th, 2010, Arthur (Art) Peckford, age 77. Art was born in Port Union, Trinity Bay, July 21, 1932. He moved to Gander when he was 14 years old, but Port Union held a steadfast place in his heart and he went "home" many times during his life. Art retired from EPA, CPA - Canadian Airlines after 29 years of service. He was a proud member of the Gander All Star Hockey Team in the 1950's. Despite a Parkinson's diagnosis in 1998, Art continued to be very active in riding his bicycle, roller blading and ice skating. Art was tenacious. Predeceased by parents William & Lavinia Peckford, father and mother-in- law, Frank & Nellie Bowe, brother Angus Peckford, brother-in-law Ron Sooley. Leaving to mourn with much sadness but wonderful memories, his wife Frances (nee Bowe)- 55 years married. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Jean Wells announce her sudden passing at her residence on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at the age of 83 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are her daughter, Gloria Wyatt (Ralph); sons: Gary Wells (Audrey) and Glen Wells; daughter-in-law, Shelly Wells; grandchildren: Diane Way, Paul Wyatt, Sarah Haley, April and Ashley Wells, Jodie Wells and Joshua Wells; great-grandchildren: Rachel Way, Stephen, Matthew and Evelyn Haley; sister-in-law, Melba Batten; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and very dear friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd; son, Wayne; sisters: Mary Dooley and Rhoda Johnson; brother, Clifford Burden. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her sons: Arthur (Frona) White, Grand Falls-Windsor, Clifford (Carolyn) White, Deer Lake, grandchildren: Renee (Roy) Peckford, Grand Falls-Windsor, Renita (Bob) Mulrooney, Audra White, Grand Falls-Windsor, Suzzette White, Goose Bay, Cassandra White, St Johns, great grandchildren: Tyler, Ryan, Michael, Corey, Lisa, Jennifer, Krista, Matthew, great great granddaughter Somer, brothers: Norman (Audrey) Pardy, Badger, Bill (Clarice) Pardy, Badger, and brother in law Jack Milley, Grand Falls-Windsor, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Donald Richard White announce his passing at the Vic Hospital in London, Ontario on January 15, 2010, at the age of 61 years. He will be sadly missed by three sons: Craig White of Windsor, Ontario, Jamie Cormier and Josh Cormier, both of Mattis Point; two daughters: Robyn (Pat) Lafreniere of St. John's and Nickole White of Kippens; five brothers: Lawrance (Myra) White of Stephenville, Ben (Barb) White of Stephenville, Bertrum White of Fox Island River, Rennie (Joan) White of Kippens and Abbie (Ann) White of Point au Mal; two sisters: Donna (Jim) Davis of Stephenville and Daphne Michelin of Brampton, Ontario; sister-in-law, Louise White of Stephenville Crossing, along with a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Annie White; brothers: Joe, Cletus, Issac White and sister, Theresa Pearson. Cremation has taken place in Ontario and friends may call at Russell's Funeral Home, 57 Prince Rupert Drive, Stephenville on Friday, January 29th from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 30th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen's Parish, West Street, Stephenville.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Jane Elizabeth White, British War Bride, announce her passing on Friday, January 22nd, 2010 at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital, at the age of 89 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Emmanuel Luther White, October 2004. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: Gloria (Herb) Tanner, Gary (Sylvia), Godfrey, Carol (Gerald) Fennemore, June and David; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; sisters-in-law: Pearl (Kai) Gullage, Alma (Frank) Guy and May Dean; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Friends may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Mark's Avenue, on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 26th at 2:00 p.m. from First United Church, Park Street, with Rev.
