DILLON, Barry Vincent Jr.
This is a long shot, but the obituary says that Barry has relatives in Newfoundland which implies his family came from Newfoundland.
December 19, 1986 April 27, 2010
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barry on April 27, 2010. A young life taken too early from us. He will be missed by his father (Barry Sr.), mother (Kerri-Lea), siblings James, Andy, Josh, Shawn, Nicole, Cory, Nancy, Mary-Anne, his grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins from Victoria and as far away as Newfoundland and his many friends and co workers. Barry will always be remembered for his kindness and his generosity towards his family and friends. FIELDING, Frances Louise
On August 16, 2010 following a long illness Frances Fielding passed away peacefully at St. Charles Manor in Victoria, BC. Born in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland to James and Dorothy Garland in 1921, Frances was educated in her home town and in St John's where she worked in the War Effort for the YW and YMCA. In 1943 Frances married Chief Petty Officer Geoffrey Fielding (RCN) of Victoria at St Mary's Church in St. John's and later started "the most wonderful journey of her life" travelling from St John's to Victoria by train, stopping in cities along the way. Thus began a love and a life of travel as the wife of a Naval Officer with many postings. Frances was always active in her church life, particularly with the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Victoria and the Anglican Church Women of Canada. Her religious faith remained strong throughout her life and supported her in times of adversity.

Frances was predeceased by her husband, Geoff in January 1998 and her daughter, Meredith (Meeda) in 1996 and is survived by her children, Joy (Eric Kjekstad), Jim (Kathryn) and Dorothy (Sean Steele) and by her grandchildren, Erica Kjekstad (Kevin Cuddihy), Leigh Kjekstad and Jillian (Ben Reid), Michael Fielding and Graham Fielding, Sergei Steele and Elena Steele and greatgrandchildren, Eva Cuddihy and William Cuddihy. In Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, she will be missed by her brothers, Charles Garland (May) and Neville Garland (Alice) as well as many nieces and nephews.

Our family is especially grateful to nurses Lara and Leia at St. Charles Manor and all the wonderful staff members whose care, compassion, respect and efficiency is shared with residents and family alike. We also thank Brenda Diemert for her years of help and kindness to our Mother. Services will be held at St. Mary's Church, Elgin Road, Oak Bay at 10:30 on Monday, August 23, 2010 with burial following at Royal Oak Cemetery. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com

GILLILAND, John Michael
Although this fellow was born in Victoria, BC, he received his PhD at Memorial University in Newfoundland.
Died at home in Victoria on Wednesday, May 5th, 2010. Born on April 13th, 1939 in Victoria he is predeceased by his first wife Margaret and survived by his second wife Corinna. He leaves behind sons Peter and Mark, stepchildren Michael and Kika, his sister Jane Patterson and her family, as well as a huge group of relatives and friends who will miss him a great deal.

Archivist, scholar, lecturer, actor, magician and clown all were facets of John. His schooling started at Norfolk House Kindergarten through Margaret Jenkins Elementary then on to Vic High where he made his mark as an actor and long-distance runner. He distinguished himself academically by graduating with the highest Grade Point average in the province's history to that time. He went on to study at Vic College, UBC, Cambridge University (where he spent most of his time with the student Magic Circle), and Memorial University in Newfoundland where he received his PhD. He returned to the west coast and eventually to Victoria in the mid 1970's where he became deeply involved with the Victoria Magic Circle and Langham Court Theatre. Later on he became an invaluable member of the Friends of the Library (where his ability to shift boxes of books almost as big as himself was greatly appreciated). Everyone benefited from John's amazing memory, his attention to detail, his incorrigible sense of humour and his insatiable curiosity about anything and everything.

A celebration of John's life will be held at Langham Court Theatre (his "home" away from home) on Saturday, May 15th starting at 2:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers donations to either the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the Victoria Theatre Guild would be appreciated. Condolences may be offered at www.mccallbros.com
