FITZPATRICK, John (Jim) [with photo]
February 24, 1933 - January 11, 2010
Vancouver Sun January 16, 2010 (Saturday)

Jim passed away at St. Paul's Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer with family by her side. He was predeceased by a brother and three sister. He leaves behind his life companion Laurie, brother Harry, nephews Chris and Kim, niece Katherine. Born in Buchans, NFLD. Raised in Toronto, attended University of Toronto, University of Winnipeg. Career in Canadian Army Intelligence. At one time had franchises in 48 video stores within BC. Lived in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa. Spoke four additional languages. Moved to Palm Springs working at the local TV station. After a vivid social life in Palm Springs he moved back to Vancouver after meeting Laurie and began their life together. Jim had an amazing recall of names and facts. A strong competitor in golf, tennis and squash. He was a member at Point Grey, Union Club in Victoria. Billy Bishop Legion, North Shore Business Association. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to BC Cancer Foundation. A Celebration of Life for Jim will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 from 3-6 pm at Moose's Down Under Restaurant, 830 W. Pender St.


QUICK, Maureen
Vancouver Sun January 30, 2010 (Saturday)

Early on January 25th, Maureen Quick's battle with cancer ended. Her passing took place at home, as she wished, with her husband, Ron, and daughter, Robyn, nearby. Living assistance from the VGH Palliative Care and the Drake Medox staffs could not have been more encouraging. Special thanks to Drs Vickie Martin and Alison MacInnes for sharing their joy and support with Maureen. A memorial service will be held in St. John's, NL this summer and a tea for friends and family will take place in Vancouver on February 6, 2010. Contact robynq@gmail.com for details. Donations to the BC Cancer Agency are requested in lieu of flowers.
