EASON, Ernest Leslie Collingwood
At the age of 81, Ernie died peacefully at York Central Hospital Palliative Care Unit on Wednesday, December 20, 2006 after a long battle with cancer. Father of Ernie (Amanda) Eason and Heather (David) Mitchell, Grandfather of Jeffrey Eason, Cheri (Craig) Wilson, Steven (Stephanie) Eason, Jeremy Mitchell, Ryan Mitchell (Rebekah Bebee), Stacey (Brian) Huxtable, Carol Mitchell and Roger Mitchell as well as Great-grandfather to Makaiya Mitchell. Dear brother of Granville (deceased), Vida (George) Cummings (both deceased), Lily (Ray - deceased) Wight, Faye (Vern) Hiscock (both deceased), Evelyn (Ira - deceased) Pritchett, and Retired Majors Lloyd (Ruth) Eason.

Born in Musgrave Harbour, Newfoundland on October 2, 1925 to Salvation Army Officers, he was raised throughout Newfoundland. Married Gladys Eason (nee Butler - deceased) in Corner Brook, Newfoundland in 1946 and then moved to Toronto. He was a lifelong Salvationist and bandsman at both Dovercourt and Etobicoke (Corps Sergeant-Major) and a member of the congregation at the Salvation Army Georgina Community Church. He was remarried to Carol Pearo (nee Welbourn - deceased) in 1998.

A resident of Sutton-by-the-Lake since December 1999 and a deeply religious man, he is now at the side of God. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made in Ernie's name to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Salvation Army. On December 23, 2006, public visitation will be at the Salvation Army Georgina Community Church (1816 Metro Road, Jackson's Point) from 10 a.m. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment, Briar Hill Cemetery, Sutton. Arrangements in care of the Forrest & Taylor Funeral Home, Sutton, 905-722-3274.
