ADEGBOYEGA Moriyike June 29, 1950 - Sept 7, 2020 It is with sadness in our hearts but with resignation to the will of God that we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother, Moriyike Adegboyega. Moriyike was a loving and devoted wife to Adebayo Adegboyega, her husband of 47 years, a doting mother to her four children, Bosede Makanjuola, Biola Adegboyega, Bolaji Layokun and Babatunde Adegboyega, the two daughters and sons she gained through her children's marriages, Lonpe Adegboyega, Margaret Adegboyega, Kole Layokun and Yemi Makanjuola; and to her grandkids, Nifesimi and Seun Makanjuola, Feranmi and Mosunmola Adegboyega, Gaby Layokun and Moroti and Morife Adegboyega. Also mourning her passing are siblings, nephews and nieces. Moriyike was ever the apple of her husband Adebayo's eye. They were verily two peas in a pod, the perfect complement to each other. She adored her four children and raised them with the utmost compassion and love, an endeavor that never ceased even into adulthood. She was a teacher not only of the essentials of life to her own kin but a lifelong educator who imparted knowledge and wisdom to all who crossed paths with her. She was a matriarch among mothers, fiercely devoted and abounding in compassion extending beyond her flesh and blood. While an educator, she had a limitless passion for reading, gardening and baking. With matchless wit and a keen sense of humour, she made our hearts and our house a place called home with the fondest memories. She remains evergreen in our hearts. We'd like to thank Abayomi and Mary Ogunyemi, those who cared for her at the Miller Centre, and also the staff of Cancer center, MUN Health Sciences Unit, St. John's, NL Canada especially Dr. Liang. DUNNE Maureen Passed: September 6, 2020 Born: December 13, 1966 "Dearly beloved we are gathered here today to get through this thing called life." (Prince) Our dearest Reenie, our boisterous Beenie-Bopper, In stillness and tranquility at just 53 years old you decided it was time for the next step and imbued with a sense of calm and serenity you drew your final breaths on Sept 6, 2020. You were born on December 13, 1966 and life was challenging for you, yet you confronted it with a strength and courage few possess. You survived and surpassed the insurmountable and you and your life is this family's greatest teacher. You loved music, singing, dancing and laughing! There was no match for your deep bellied joviality. So happy with so little, to be in the moment and grasp wholeheartedly that which brought you joy. The face of a family member, an unexpected visit, your favorite meal, meaningful music, hearing that you were loved, the sun on your face, reminiscing fond childhood memories, were all reasons for you to be grateful. Something you held dear to your heart were your memories of all your nieces and nephews, their births, how you babysat them and the innumerable shenanigans. Being an aunt was very important to you and you loved them all. For Bill and Nichole, with whom you shared many years of your home life, your passing is especially sorrowful. They held vigil at your bedside in your final days. You taught us that we have much to learn Reenie. Direct and authentic, pure and powerful with humor and warmth, a well-hidden vulnerability and a feisty temperament. You never wanted nor asked for much, just to be loved and to know you mattered and belonged- to not feel like an outsider, different or to be shunned. You now join our mom (Kathleen Dunne- 2014) , dad ( Harry Dunne- 1975 ), brother ( Henry Dunne- 2014) and niece (Tara Dunne- 2016) who have gone before you. You were surrounded by family and heard their stories, songs, laughter and hopefully felt their love. We, your remaining brothers and sisters; Wayne, Tony, Kitty, Trish, Carol, Tim and Linda along with our families and friends will never forget you Reenie. You have left a special impact on many healthcare professionals that grew to know and love you over the years. Reenie, you will be celebrated, treasured and loved eternally. We fell short of giving you all that you deserved in your living years. May death bring you not only peace but also freedom, a gentle release from the mind's restless state and from the bodily confines of physical discomfort and suffering. The family would like to thank the staff of the Waterford Hospital who for many years fulfilled a very important function for our sister. She spoke of you often and fondly. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Thursday, September 10, 2020 from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, September 11, 2020 at 10 a.m. at Mary Queen of the World Church. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association.

Joe's siblings and their spouses, Marie (Bill Gregory), Ralph (Pat RIP), Elizabeth (Joe Davis), Helena (Bob Coady), Maureen (Tony) Healey and Anna, will forever remember their oldest brother. Joe's grandchildren and great-grandchildren Amanda Gough, Krista (Jamie Cleary), Kate and Nick, Patrick Singleton (Victoria), Erica, Lucy, Madeline and Stephen Singleton (Cherilyn), Violet, Gwen and MaryAnn. Also, special cousin and lifelong friend, Gertie Daley. He was predeceased by his parents Michael and Jessie Gough. Additionally, Joe's and Catherine's lives were forever impacted by the untimely and early death of their beloved son David. Joe is also predeceased by his sister-in-law Pat Gough (Ralph) and by Catherine's parents William and Annie Pollett. In addition to family members, Joe will be fondly remembered by Noreen Keating who was a dear friend of their departed son, David. Bob Meade lived close to Joe and Chat; in their lives Bob personified all that a good neighbor could possibly be. Joe was born in St. Joseph's, Salmonier. The Gough family ran a general store where all provisions could be purchased. Joe left Salmonier at the tender age of 14 to complete high school at St. Bon's in St. John's. He continued in the academic sphere until he earned the designation Chartered Accountant in 1964. Joe worked at a couple of local firms before striking out on his own and establishing his own firm in 1966. He quickly built an impressive list of clients who were not only impressed by his professionalism, knowledge, and unyielding integrity, but also his charisma and sense of humor. He went above and beyond for his clients and he was honored to serve them. The firm lives on with his beloved son Michael and dedicated and loyal colleague of 43 years Bruce Fancy. Joe always had a joke or a story for any occasion. His ability to recall details of family or historical facts, with complete accuracy was truly amazing. A man of great intelligence and also a light hearted sense of humor that was appreciated by all. Joe had a love for the traditions set in St. Joseph's and often regaled people with stories of Uncle Ab or others integral in weaving the fabric that made his background so memorable. Joe also had musical talents few knew he possessed. He could pick up many instruments and reproduce tunes completely by ear alone. He was indeed a man of many talents and gifts and his legacy will live on. His family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were everything to him. He will be missed. A special thanks to all his former staff and home care workers who went above and beyond for Joe. Also, to the staff of Kenny's Pond Retirement Home, the staff of 4SB Health Sciences Centre and Dr. Jane, Dr. Crocker and Dr. Murray. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Caul's Funeral Home. Visitation and a Funeral Mass took place at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist on Thursday, October 1, 2020. PLOUGHMAN Jack Burford In the early hours of September 16, Jack Burford Ploughman of Coley's Point (the epicentre of all good things, according to Burf) died peacefully at 89 years old. Patricia (Tish) has been Burf's loving wife, caregiver, confidante and partner in illuminating societal wrongs for over 60 years. He played his best match when he met Tish on the Courts of Riverdale Tennis Club. He will also be lovingly remembered by daughter Kim (David Healey), sons Andrew (Chantelle Burke), Bruce (Susan) and Mark (Mary Walsh) and grandchildren Alex, Denys, Jared, Lauren, Sarah, Claire and Jeremy. He was a consummate outdoorsman and we came to understand that, on the crest of a treeless ridge where there are no trails other than those carved by caribou, and where you feel the wind without hearing it, is where he found ultimate peace and tranquility. We expect he is there now. The family would like to thank Ean Parsons of the Family Medicine Clinic for his years of care for our Dad as well as the amazing NL history he shared with him. We would also like to thank the staff of 5 East, St. Clare's for their compassionate and touching care during Dad's final hours. There will be no visitation and cremation has taken place. People wishing to express their condolences can do so on the Carnell's web site: www.carnells.com

RICKETTS Dr.Thomas George Age 85 Scarborough, Ontario Dr. Tom Ricketts, MD, FRCP(C), is now at peace, after having passed away in the early morning hours of 15 September in the comfort of his home. Tom Ricketts was born on 22 May 1935, in St. John's, NL, the son of Thomas (Tommy) Ricketts, VC, and Edna May (Edwards) Ricketts. He was predeceased by his sister Dolda Lorraine Clarke. Left to mourn, but carry on, are his loving wife of over 61 years Janice J (Hunter) Ricketts, his five children, Catherine E, Thomas Y, George A, John D, and Carolyn V, and his eleven grand-children. After growing up in St. John's, and graduating from Bishop Field College at the age of sixteen, Dr. Ricketts studied medicine at Dalhousie University in Halifax, NS, where he met his future life partner Janice. Upon graduation in 1958, he returned to Newfoundland to practice medicine, first at the Bonne Bay Cottage Hospital, where he began married life with his new bride, and then in central Newfoundland where he established his family medicine practice in Grand Falls and area. In 1970, Dr. Ricketts made the decision to specialize in radiology; he relocated his young family from Newfoundland to Toronto, and settled in Guildwood Village. After he passed his board exams in 1974, Dr. Ricketts started work as a radiologist at the Scarborough General Hospital, where he remained until his retirement in 2003. In his free time, Tom was an avid Maple Leafs fan, and also enjoyed watching the Blue Jays. He was a keen supporter of public broadcasting; as he whittled away his days puttering, CBC radio was invariably playing in the background. Tom found relaxation in spending afternoons and evenings with Janice at the symphony, the opera, or the Mirvish Theatre. He enjoyed tinkering, loved a good story, commonly recounted alongside a spirited game of bridge, and found comfort in the company of family, and his few close friends. Tom led a quiet, contemplative life, but thrived on rigorous banter at the dinner table, or underneath the stars while seated at his perch on the front step. He will be sadly missed by all those who knew deep down that his gruff manner concealed a kind, caring and generous heart. Cremation was arranged through McDougall and Brown Funeral Home. A small family service and burial was held Friday afternoon, 25 September, at St Margaret in the Pines Cemetery. Deep appreciation is extended to all involved in the tireless care of Tom through his last few years. Those wishing to recognize Tom's life with a charitable donation are invited to contribute to a charity of their choosing.

ROCHE (nee POWER) Marie Pierre June 21, 1934 - Sept.8, 2020 It is with profound sadness, yet love filled hearts that we share the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and friend, Marie Pierre Roche (nee Power) of St. John's, formerly of Branch, St. Mary's Bay. Leaving to mourn with a lifetime of unconditional love her three daughters, Margie (Ed), Gloria and Ann Marie (Shane) along with the shining lights in her life her four grandchildren, Maria, Anna, Samuel and Kiera. They made her heart sing every day! Sharing in our loss is her beloved brother Bob Power (Nora), brothers-in-law William Roche and Earl Pond (Florence d.), sister-in-law Florence Power (Wishey d.) and Maureen Roche (Fred d.). Her special Aunt Theresa Roche. Nieces; Bev, Gwen, Marie, Lynn, Earlene, Elaine, Linda, Missy, Jill, Patricia, Joyce, Mary, Kim and Emily. Nephews; Rob, Brian, Ian, Mark, Howard, Donnie, Fred, Sean, Stephen, John Paul, Peter and Edward. Auntie Re loved them all! She will be greatly missed by her Power cousins from "the hill" in Branch and her Careen cousins with their roots from Point Lance. Mom was born on the first day of summer (June 21, 1934) to Robert and Margaret Power in Branch, S.M.B. Three siblings followed: Wishey, Florence and Bob. When mom was nine years old her father Robbie passed away. This life changing event created a strong bond between the four siblings, and they remained closely united and loyal to each other throughout the years. Their mother Margaret raised them to value family, their Catholic faith and education. Mom went on to become a teacher. For 42 years it was her passion. Mom truly cared for every student who passed through her classrooms. Everywhere she went a former student would greet her and share happy memories. Mom taught in Ship Cove and Branch before moving to St. John's. There she taught at Presentation Convent School for 36 years. Mom had many colleagues who became lifelong friends. In 1962 Mom married Allan Roche. Together they built a life of love around their three daughters. Most of those years were spent on Barnes Rd (St. John's) and the summer home in Branch. Their homes were always filled with the laughter of friends and family. In 1992, our Dad passed away suddenly but soon Mom's life was made full again with the arrival of her four precious grandchildren. She devoted herself to them and they loved her dearly. Mom treated everyone with kindness, respect and dignity. As she would often say "everyone has a story." Mom found fulfillment volunteering at the Gathering Place and fellowship in her friends at her Mercy Associates Group. Mom's deep faith helped her accept the cancer diagnosis with grace and peace. In her words "It's okay, we've done it all!" Thank you to all who called, sent cards, flowers, gift baskets and food during Mom's illness. Special thanks to Father Wayne for his visits and prayers, Dr. Lorraine Cantwell for her personal care for Mom over the years. To St. Clare's nurses Tiffany Harvey, Heather Nash and the Community Health Nurse Kelly Collins, and to the members of the Palliative Care at Home Team who are a gift to families such as ours! He received several awards and recognition for volunteering - the highest being the Governor General's Caring Canadian in 2010. He and Mom spent many enjoyable summers with family at their cabin on Old Man's Pond and winter getaways at Long Boat Key, Florida. Leaving to mourn her six children: Bob (Heather Coultas) of Flatrock, NL, Carol and Judy (Mike McKendy) of Fredericton, NB, Jerry (Cheryl) of Maple Shade, New Jersey, Catherine (Steve Chatburn) of Pennsauken NJ, and Patricia (Kevin Coslove) of Cinnaminson, NJ; six grandchildren Colleen McKendy Jesso (James) of New Brunswick, Laura McKendy (Geoff), Kristin Van Pelt (Keith) and Kaitlin Riegger (Eric) of New Jersey, and Megan and Ryan Coslove in New Jersey; five great-grandchildren Nathan and Matthew Van Pelt of New Jersey, Jaida and Jackson Jesso of New Brunswick, Elena Riegger of New Jersey, also brother-in-law Bro. Edward Wakeham in St. John's and sister-in-law Vera Judge in Grand Falls, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and good friends scattered throughout Newfoundland, mainland Canada, and the United States, as well as the Bridge community in St. John's. Mom was preceded in death by the singular love of her life, her husband Gerry Wakeham; a "Townie", her parents Joe Judge, a native of Point Verde, Placentia Bay; and Mary Dormody, a native of Fox Harbour, Placentia Bay, both long time residents of Grand Falls; her siblings: Helen, Bill, Ned, Jim, Mary and Joe; and special son in law John McKendy. A special service will be held at the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020 at 11AM, and will be live streamed. Our mother lived just a tremendously interesting and eclectic life, one that saw her leave Newfoundland in the early 60's with her children when dad was transferred from Gander to Virginia, and then New York City and Philadelphia. Mom became an R.N. in her early 40's and practiced nursing (pediatrics) in New Jersey until her retirement. She was also an accomplished Bridge player, and achieved Silver Life Master Status, a quite laudable achievement in the Bridge world. (We thought of her as the Gordie Howe of the world's Bridge leagues). Mom and dad also took advantage of Dad's pass privileges with Trans World Airlines and jetted like two upper crust rich types (they were, in actuality, just ordinary, middle-class souls) throughout the world, having breakfast in Cairo, lunch in Rome and supper in Dublin. And they enjoyed watching the Rangers at Madison Square Garden and the Flyers at the Spectrum, and gambling in Las Vegas and Atlantic City with a crowd of ex-patriate Newfoundlanders. Mom and Dad returned to their beloved Newfoundland every year, and came back for good eight years ago after a half century in the U.S. Mom and Dad were always the best dancers on the floor, and it's easy to imagine that as of this past Saturday afternoon, their magical performances had resumed, perhaps among the clouds of Heaven. Our Mom was a lovely person and we will miss her for the rest of our days.
