BAILEY, George - Passed peacefully away (in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario) with his family by his side on October 12, 2013 at the age of 70. Beloved husband of Barbara for 46 years. Loving father of Tricia (Duane). Predeceased by his parents George and Rita, his brother Wayne (Bonnie) and his brother-in-law Patrick Hearn (Helen). Leaving to mourn his sisters: Helen Hearn, Torbay, Elsie Legge, Liz (Dave) Antle, Terri; sister-in-law Bonnie Bailey and family friend Betty Smith, all in St. John's; two brothers: Ed (Dot), St. John's and David (Bev), Kitchener, Ontario. Also leaving to mourn his numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends in Newfoundland, Ontario, Saskatchewan and Alberta. George was the son-in-law of the late Patrick and Mary Dunne. Brother-in-law of John Dunne (Mary) and family of PEI, late Gerald Dunne and late Patricia Dunne. George will be sadly missed by his dog, Malibu. Memorial contributions to the Cancer, Diabetes, Alzheimers or Autism Societies would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements were entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

BARRY, Kevin - Died peacefully at the age of ninety-two in St. John's on October 18, 2013, surrounded by his family. Kevin was born and grew up in Curling, Newfoundland. After attending St. Francis Xavier University and the Dalhousie Law School, he was called to the bar and returned to practice law in Corner Brook. In time, he served as the Mayor of Curling, as Chair of the Labour Relations Board, and as a bencher with the Law Society. He was appointed to the Newfoundland District Court in Gander in 1976 and then to the Supreme Court (Trial Division), where he served until his retirement in 1996. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of sixty-one years, Kathleen (née Downey), and their six daughters: Estelle (Paul Voynovich), Clare (John Collins), Ann Marie, Mary, Elizabeth (Derrick Butler), and Jane (Steve Moore). He was predeceased by six siblings: Jack, Edward, Gus, Emma, Mary, and Edward; he leaves two, Isabella and David. He also leaves many nieces and nephews, a host of relatives and friends, and thirteen grandchildren: Michael, Sam, and Alex Collins; Marianne, Nicolas, and Daniel Alacoque; Barry and Blaise Peters and Anna Barry; Mark and Gregory Butler; and David and Allison Moore. Visitation will be at Caul's Funeral Home on Sunday, October 20 at 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. and on Monday, October 21 at 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, October 22 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Pius X Parish. The family thanks Dr. Roger Butler, Community Health Services, and the Palliative Care Team of the Miller Centre for their care and attention. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Dr. H. BELL, Patricia Ann (Pat) - May 17, 1955 - October 26, 2013 - It is with heavy hearts that the family of Pat Bell announces her passing after a courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her parents Loretta and William Dean of Trepassey, NL. Pat will be sadly missed by her loving and devoted husband, Allan, and their two precious daughters, Alicia and Tasha of Whitecourt, AB. Pat will also be greatly missed by her brothers and sisters: Aloysius Dean (Shirley), Trepassey, NL, Alice Dean (Gary Allen), Halifax, NS, Kelvin Dean (Marilyn), Trepassey, NL, Anna Ebsary (Herb), St. John's, NL, Erna Dean-Slingluff, Halifax, NS; mother-in-law, Mrs. Phyllis Bell and sister-in-law, Maureen McInnes (Mike), BC. Pat also leaves behind a large number of nieces and nephews as well as many loving and caring friends. A special thanks goes out to the staff of 4G Unit at The University of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton for their care and compassion and particularly to friends Dave and Jean Harris of Edmonton for their exceptional kindness. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Pat's life will be held at the Central School Community Centre, Whitecourt, AB, on Saturday, November 2, 2013 from 2 - 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the charity of your choice.

BINDER, William - Passed peacefully away on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, William Binder, age 91 years. William was born on February 7, 1922 in Liepaja, Latvia. Left with fond memories his wife of 58 years Marion (nee Oxford); daughter Karen Manuel (Keith); son John (Bonnie); grandchildren: Andrew, Kimberly, Carena and Gianna as well as an extended family in Corner Brook, NL. Dad and his parents started their lives over twice when they left Latvia after the forced annexation of that country by Russia and post WWII when they immigrated to Corner Brook. His goal was to reach age 90 which he did. Thanks to the staff of 7 East and Dr. Reddy for making dad's final days comfortable. Predeceased by her husband Cluny; infant son Terry; and sisters: Olga, Doris and Ruby. Leaving to mourn her son Calvin (Iris); grandchildren: Lesley, Steven and Jill (Patrick); great-grandchildren: Joshua, Julia, Julianne, Jessie and Amelia; brother Railton; and sister Eileen Farrell. BRADBURY (Lee), Marion Marion - Passed peacefully away in the presence of her children at the Health Science Centre on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the age of 84, Marion Bradbury (Lee). Predeceased by parents John and Ellen Lee and loving husband Lawrence (Lar). BRYANT, Elizabeth - Passed peacefully away at Carbonear General Hospital with her family by her side on Sunday, October 27th, 2013, Betty Bryant of Heart's Content, age 65 years. BURTON (nee Oliver), Roxanne Eileen - Passed away after a brief illness at the Health Sciences Centre surrounded by her loving family and friends on October 25, 2013, Roxanne Burton, aged 40 years, of Portugal Cove-St. Philips formerly of Torbay. Roxanne was born May 14th, 1973 to Dorothy McGrath -Oliver and Raymond Oliver (deceased). She is survived by the love of her life, her husband Jeffrey Burton and their two beautiful children Liam (10) and Tara (6). Also leaving to mourn her mother Dorothy McGrath-Oliver; brothers Steven Oliver (Christine) and David Oliver (Jennifer); sister Heather Oliver; parents-in-law Geraldine and Emerson Burton of Grand Falls Windsor; Larry Burton (Shelly) of Paradise, and Lisa Dawe (Vince) of Grand Falls Windsor. Auntie Roxanne will always be loved and remember by her nieces and nephews: Tyler, Josh and Savannah Dodd, Lily and Baby Oliver, Mark and Stephanie Dawe, and Sydney and Jacob Burton; great nieces Brooklyn and Morgan. BUTLER, James "Jimmy" - (January 21st, 1936 - October 20th, 2013) - Passed away peacefully after a short illness, at the Health Science Center at the age of 77. Predeceased by his parents: James and Eleanor Butler (nee Dowden), sister Elizabeth Peddle, Eleanor Legge, Susan Flynn, Helen Yetman (nee Pearce), Jessie Lambert and Muriel Bassett. Leaving to mourn his only remaining sister, Louise Newell, his best friend and nephew Ted Bassett and many other nephews and nieces. Jimmy also left many other friends at Kelly' Brook Apartments and we would like to thank them for being his family as he was a single man who loved everyone. Anyone who knew Jimmy knew a special person who will be missed immensely. CRANE CPHI(c), Eugene Jerome - Passed peacefully away on October 30, 2013, after a brief battle with cancer at the age of 61 years. Gene always loved music and was a well-known drummer in numerous bands including, The Heet, The Mary Jane Company, Storm, Borrowed Time, The Cavaliers, Center Lane, Night Owl and Traces Dance Band. Predeceased by his beautiful mother Madeline on October 3, 2013. Leaving to mourn his loving wife Grace (nee Stone); his devoted children: Pamela and William (Bill); father William (Bill); wonderful brothers and sisters: Linda Philpott (Terry), Paul (Debbie), Ken (Mary), Yvonne Perrin (Larry), Janet Stead (Alf), Leona (Hugh McKibbin), Jill, Colin (Lisa) and Carol (Joe Starkes); in-laws: Maxine Churchill (George), Ronald Stone (Netha) and a very special sister-in-law Carol Stone, who he loved dearly and cared for without hesitation. CRITCH, Ralph - With heavy hearts, we the family announce the passing of our loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Ralph Critch, age 92 years, at the Interfaith Nursing Home, Carbonear on Wednesday, October 30, 2013. Born in Hant's Harbour, Trinity Bay, he was the son of the late Sandy and Maude Critch. Predeceased by wife Mabel, brothers Chester and Frank. DAVIS, Emilie - Died on October 17, 2013 at Harbour View Haven, Lunenburg, her home for the past few years. Emilie was born on June 25th, 1926 the youngest child of Millie and Jonathan Davis of St. John's, Newfoundland. She was the sister of the late Eleanor Williams of Lunenburg and aunt to Eleanor's children, Jane Williams (the late Gilles Caron) of Montreal, Megan Williams of Lunenburg, Peter Williams (Jude) of Halifax and Mary Williams (Robert Lecker) of Montreal. She is also survived by her brother Harry Davis (Joan) of London, Ontario and many other nieces and nephews, the children of Harry and of her late brother Arthur Davis. She spent her entire working career in St. John's, the majority of that time at Newfoundland Broadcasting. Following her retirement, she came to Lunenburg in 1988 to take up residence with Eleanor. DILLON, Vincent Nicholas "Uncle Vinny" - Passed away as the result of a tragic violent act on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at the age of 45 years. Predeceased by his parents Vince and Pauline Dillon and his fiancé Juliane Hibbs. DOYLE, James (Jimmy) - Passed peacefully away on October 31, 2013 James Doyle, age 68 years. Predeceased by parents, Harriet and Michael along with brothers: Max and Stephen. FORD (Payne), Margaret - (October 7, 1918 - October 20, 2013) - Passed peacefully away at her residence, Tiffany Village, in the presence of her loving family, Margaret Ford, aged 95. Predeceased by her lifelong love and partner, John C. on Sept. 24, 2013, her parents: George and Olive Payne, siblings: Geraldine, Issac, Lucien, Willard, Lorne and Claude. She leaves to mourn her son, Robert and daughter-in-law Gloria, precious grandchildren: Stephen (Sylvie) and Heather (Glenn) Etsell, cherished great-grandchildren: Bethany and Benjamin Etsell and Jamieson Ford, and extended family and friends. Also survived by one sister, Alma, living in Dartmouth, NS. Mom was a gracious lady who loved to always look her best and who had such a positive attitude about life's challenges. She enjoyed the simple things in life whether it was sewing, knitting for the grandchildren or baking a cake it was always with a smile. Her smiling face radiated her personality and inspired those around her, particularly the staff at Tiffany Village who took pleasure in attending to all her needs. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her but we all take comfort in knowing that she will be reunited with Dad, who she missed so much. MARTIN (nee Hansen), Margot F. - Passed away quietly, aged 77, in the loving presence of her family on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital in Clarenville, Newfoundland. Predeceased by her husband, Dr. Ross L. Martin; her son, Ross Brian Martin (Cheryl); her twin sister Marlene Woodcock, and her parents Carl and Elvira (Vira) Hansen. Originally from Merasheen, Veronica came from a loving family. Pre-deceased by her loving husband Maurice and her son Gerard. MEEKER, Kenneth George - Passed peacefully away on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at the Health Sciences Centre, in the warm embrace of family, at the age of 83 years. Ken Meeker was born and raised in Ontario and served in Korea with the Royal Canadian Dragoons. He moved to Newfoundland in 1961, where he quickly became established as a writer and broadcast journalist, first with CJON and later with CBC "Here and Now." Ken had a natural, unaffected presence on-camera, and served as a mentor to many of his fellow journalists. He covered the breaking stories of the day, including construction of the hydro complex in Churchill Falls, the seal hunt and the demise of the Smallwood government. Ken was a trailblazer in his coverage of environmental issues, and his Collect-A-Wreck and litter clean-up campaigns had lasting impacts on the provincial landscape. As well, thousands of people broke their tobacco addiction with Ken through his Quit Smoking Campaign. Ken was a long-time volunteer with the SPCA, where he was known affectionately as "The Bird Man." He also served on the Mount Pearl City Council from 1997 to 2001. Leaving to mourn his wife, Jean, and four children: Steve (Donna), Geoff (Kathy), Sue Peddle (Chris) and Tom (Kim). The Meeker roots are now permanent in this province, with eight grandchildren: Curtis, Gregory, Kenneth, Scott, Chris, Cameron, Samantha and Zach. Ken is also survived by brothers Howie and Tom (predeceased by Dick and Chuck). Passed suddenly away at home on October 14, 2013, Peter Joseph Power, age 87 years. Peter was the last surviving member of his immediate family, and was also predeceased by his first wife Marion. Sgt. Power served his country in the artillery for 27 years which included a 6 month call of duty to peacekeeping in Cyprus. He also supported the army and navy cadet movement in NL for 8 years. Power - Scully nee (Burke) age 78 years of Tors Cove. Predeceased by her husbands John Gerald Power (2001) and Diarmuid Scully (2009). SORENSEN, Gerald Axel - 1929-2013 - Passed peacefully away on October 27, 2013, Gerald Axel Sorensen, aged 84. Left to mourn are his beloved wife Lynn, adoring and adored children Gerald (Diane Pedersen), David (Natalie Spracklin), Mary (Bob Fearon), Karl (Jennifer White), Leslie (Ian Mansergh) and Anita (Patrick Bennett), and, his true joys, grandchildren Emily, Ashley, Erik, Lewis, Anna, Lili and Bess. WALSH (nee Gamberg), R.N., Catherine Theresa - Passed peacefully away at her residence in Saint Luke's Home at the age of 76 years, Catherine T. Walsh. Predeceased by her parents: Charles and Ellen and siblings: Charles, Frank, Gerard (Jed), Jack, Mary, and by her beloved husband James Walsh of Petty Harbour. A graduate of St. Clare's School of Nursing, Catherine worked for many years caring for disabled children and the elderly. She was an inspiration to her friends and family for her caring nature, her courage, and her deep love of those closest to her.
