BLACKWOOD Aline Marie
It is with broken hearts that the family of Aline Marie Blackwood, age 85, announces her passing which occurred on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at the Sussex Health Centre, after a courageous battle with leukemia which began in September 2007. She was born on June 21, 1934, in Baie Ste. Anne, NB, a daughter of the late George and Obeline (Mazerolle) Mazerolle. Aline is survived by her husband of 57 years, Eric; son Max (Rhonda) Blackwood of Sussex, NB; daughters: Gloria Blackwood of Sussex Corner, NB, Judy (Darren) Murphy of Sussex, NB, Charlene Blackwood of Sussex Corner, NB; grandchildren: Ryan, Marina, Shelby, Tyler, Aaron, Riley and Caitlin; several nieces and nephews; brothers: Hubert (Yvette) Mazerolle, Roddy (Gail) Mazerolle, Leo (Mary) Mazerolle; sisters Argentine Richard, Edna Demers, Rina (Yvon) Manuel, Edith Theriault and Maria (Chris) Brown. She also leaves to mourn her Blackwood family Alice (James) Oty, Henrietta Cooze, Job (Myra) Blackwood, Martha Greening, Rosalind Caines, Clarles (Louise) Blackwood, Colin (Greta) Blackwood, Della (Greg) Thomas and Jeffrey (Wanda) Blackwood. Besides her parents Aline is predeceased by her, brothers: Nicolas, Georges and Vilbon; sister Elouise Comeau, infant sisters Enlevine and Stella; sister-in-law: Sophie Glass (Blackwood); brothers-in-law: Joe Comeau, Gerald Richard, Ralph Parker, Armand Demers, Paul Theriault, Angus (Mary) Blackwood, Carmen Cooze, Gary Glass, Glenn Greening, Ted Caines; mother and father-in-law Pearl and Captain James Blackwood and nephew Blair Greening. In addition to family, Aline has left to mourn numerous close friends throughout the country and beyond.
She gave so much love to others, she received it back even greater. Growing up, Aline loved school, and cried when it ended as she finished grade 9, as she wanted to continue her education, but the family could not afford it. Aline worked very hard all her life. From her childhood helping with chores early morning before heading out to school, to her work with several families caring for their children and homes after leaving home at 18, to the work she did as a loving wife and mother in our home filled with the greatest love a mother and wife could give. Aline met Eric by fate, as she went to Tilt Cove, Newfoundland in April, 1961, with her sister, Edna to help with her first child…and when she and Eric met, it was mutual love at first sight. They married June 2, 1962, in the village of La Scie, NL. Over the next few years, they built their life in the mining towns of Tilt Cove, Chatham, NB, Rambler and Baie Verte, NL, Wabush, Labrador and finally settling in Sussex, NB. Her husband, Eric, her four children and seven grandchildren, were her life! Everything she did, every smile she smiled, and every hidden tear she cried, were for them. She was the most selfless person there was. She never wanted for anything for herself, but always for her family.
Aline enjoyed watching hockey, especially her grandchildren play, as well as the Toronto Maple Leafs with Eric. She enjoyed watching baseball, and curling, and in the earlier days, she enjoyed mixed bowling and curling with Eric. Aline enjoyed her hobbies of crocheting, knitting, embroidery, leather crafting and reading humorous stories. She was an outstanding cook, a compassionate soul, and was always concerned about everyone before herself, even in her final days. For Aline, a friend was forever…she always kept in touch with friends, neighbors, employers from her early day, including their children and grandchildren. Once Aline met you, you and your family became her friend, and she never left anyone behind. The lives she touched were so numerous, she has left many broken hearts for having lost their earthly angel. Aline will always be remembered for her incredible memory. She never forgot a person's name, details about their personal life that they shared with her, including birthdates of hundreds of people who had the privilege of being a special person to her. She remembered every event in her life like it was yesterday. What day it was, what the weather was on that day, and every person that was involved. If you ever forgot something, you knew she had the answer in her memory, even in her final days with us.
Aline also devoted her life to her Catholic Faith, was actively involved in the church in each community in which she lived, and a member of the Catholic Women's League in Wabush. Aline loved everyone! And she told them! Family, friends, and most recently, her compassionate nurses and doctors caring for her in her final days. The family would like to thank Dr. Dolan and the several nurses and staff who cared for Aline at the Saint John Regional Hospital during her journey, Dr.'s Stevenson and Butler in Sussex, the many nurses and staff at the Sussex Health Centre.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Wallace Funeral Home, 34 Sunnyside Drive, Sussex, NB, (506-433-1176). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held from St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church on Friday, November 15, 2019 at 11:00am. Donations in memory of Aline may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor's choice. Condolences to the family and donations may be made through WallaceFuneralHome.com

CROSBIE Barbara (nee Armstrong)
Feb. 11, 1936 - Nov. 16, 2019

Barbara passed peacefully away November 16, 2019. Left with fond and loving memories, her husband of 57 years, Roger and children: Beverley (John Stevenson), Mark (Susan Hynes), Amy (Gary Squires) and Jennifer (Sameer Dhargalkar), grandchildren: Hannah Stevenson, Sarah and Rebecca Crosbie, Kate and Andrew Squires, Owen and Clara Dhargalkar and a large circle of relatives and friends. Barbara enjoyed life to the fullest and gave of herself to others without question. She loved Newfoundland and spent her life giving back to it. She was President and founding member of the Newfoundland Historic Trust, President and Treasurer of the Art Association of Newfoundland and Labrador, and on the Board of Directors of the Colony of Avalon Foundation in her beloved Ferryland. She was a recipient of the Canada 125 Medal in recognition of her work with the Vanier Institute of the Family, of which she was an Honourary Life Member. Her love of travel led to her starting a career with Air Canada and later co-founding a travel agency. At the age of 46 - as if raising 4 children and volunteering on numerous Boards was not enough, she decided to return to Memorial University of Newfoundland to complete a Bachelor of Arts in History and Newfoundland Studies and then continued towards a Master of History.
On Taaffe's Lane, the door was always open and the kettle always on. Barbara will be remembered for her legendary Saturday soup attended by both family and friends - always accompanied by loud and lively conversation. Barbara was a wonderful cook and enthusiastic host with an uncanny ability to keep any conversation going. She had a love for all things artistic, especially painting and quilting. Her love of Newfoundland extended to her appreciation of the unique art forms it inspired, through her vast collection of hooked mats to her own paintings of coastlines and wild flowers. She had a witty sense of humour and the ability to make everyone feel welcome. Those who cared for her in the last few years, especially the staff of Chancellor Park, saw all of those things and for that we are truly grateful. Barbara will be remembered most as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Relatives and friends may visit the family at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Sunday and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at 9:30 a.m. from the Mary Queen of Peace, Torbay Road. DI NILLO Vinicio (Vince) Mario
It is with profound sadness and loss we announce the peaceful passing of Vince Di Nillo at home on the 25th November 2019. Vince or Chef, as he was also known, was born in 1937 in the village of Rosello, Italy and at a very young age he moved to London, England. There he commenced his apprenticeship in the culinary world working in many fine homes including that of Princess Margaret. Vince, with a sense of adventure and opportunity moved to Montreal in 1956 and hence began his love affair with Canada. Soon after, he seized the chance to move to Stephenville NL, then Gander and onwards to St John's where, for many years, he was the Executive Chef for Atlific Hotels, the former operators of the Holiday Inns in NL. Chef was passionate about his profession and recognized that mentoring was the way to instill this passion in others. He was a founding member of the NL Association of Chefs and Cooks and was honoured and recognized for his contribution to the industry with the Chef of the Year Award several times and also an award named in his honour. Nationally he was honoured by the Canadian Federation of Chefs as the Chef of the Year in 1991. Chef was always front and center in fundraising and supporting local charities and in 2003 he ventured as part of a 200 person international team of chefs to fundraise and feed hungry children in South Africa. He and his fellow Chefs for many years hosted the Regatta Day Breakfast for the Children's Wish Foundation among other worthwhile causes. The only passion Vince had that exceeded that of his profession was that of his family. Vince loved to travel and to experience the flavours wherever he went but nothing pleased him more than to visit family in "the village" in Italy. He was predeceased by his mother, father, a brother and a sister. His older brother Romano (Maria) and nieces and nephews in Rosello, Villa Santa Maria and Rome survive him. MACDONALD Annie Christie
Annie Christie MacDonald
, our beloved Chrissy, passed peacefully away on November 14th after almost 92 extraordinary years. Many left this earth before her, including her husband Gordon, her brother-in-law David, and most of their bridge club. All were constant companions in our lives. We miss them all. Left with fond and loving memories her daughter Marjorie, her sons Gord and Sandy, and their partners Doug (Munn), Sandra and Kevin (Angel) as well as her grandchildren of whom she was so proud Thomas, Sarah and her oldest grandchild Alexandra who coined ''Chrissy'' which now seems to have always been her name. She was a mother, grandmother and friend to all those she considered our family. Chrissy made this a big group and it included Alec, Nancy, Sandy, Heather, Harry, and Peter Hickman, Anne Williams, the Murrays and the Chisholm's. She loved her sister Betty fiercely and her children Jennifer, Greg and Jeff who were like her own. Many others were important to her. Many were her students. They sought her counsel, or were given it whether they asked for it or not. Chrissy was a force of nature. She loved life to the fullest along with the people around her. She loved her garden and she loved to cook. Her chocolate chip cookies were legendary. Every party was the "best party ever". Chrissy showed us how to enjoy life, how to bring beauty into our homes and how to fill our lives with friends and companionship. We hope that we are wise enough to accept these extraordinary gifts. Thank you to all the staff at Kenny's Pond for their care and compassion. As per her wish cremation has taken place. A celebration of her life will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. To send a message of condolence please visit www.carnells.com

Colleen loved teaching which began in Ireland and continued when she moved to St Johns Newfoundland. She also enjoyed her career at Statistics Canada for many years after moving to Ottawa. Helping her grandchildren with after school homework rekindled her love for teaching. Colleen was truly beautiful inside and out. O'REILLY, Q.C. Thomas. J.
He died as he lived, with peaceful dignity, on November 16, 2019 after a brave but brief battle with cancer. Born in Corner Brook, NL in 1941, Tom was predeceased by his daughter Diedre and parents Victor and Florence (Byrne). A devoted husband to Joan (Connolly) for 52 years, he was also a proud father to Sean and Daria and a loving father-in-law to Sara (Sean) and Mike (Daria). His grandchildren were the light of his life. "Grandad" thought the world of Matthew, Nolan, and Luke. Tom was a lifelong hero to his brother Michael (Glenda) and uncle to Erin, Megan, Katie, and Colleen. He leaves behind an immeasurable legacy of love, loyalty, and integrity to his family and all others to whom he came in contact.
A consummate gentleman and a scholar, Tom was many things to many people. For those that knew him, feelings of loss are partially offset by a deep sense of gratitude for having been part of his circle of steadfast counsel. Called to the Bar of Newfoundland and Labrador in 1968, Tom was an icon in the legal profession and an inspiration to his colleagues. Generations of lawyers benefited from his example and mentorship. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1980 and Master of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador in 1988, a former President of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador, President of the Newfoundland and Labrador Branch of the Canadian Bar Association and a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He had been consistently recognized in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory and the publication Best Lawyers in Canada as a leading practitioner. In 2019, at the youthful age of 78, Best Lawyers named him St. John's Insurance Law Lawyer of the Year.
In addition to being a remarkable family man and a highly regarded member of the legal profession, Tom gave generously of his time and expertise to the greater community. He served on many boards and committees over the years including: Chair of Marystown Shipyard, Director of St. Clare's Mercy Hospital as well as the Chairman of its Ethics Committee. In recent years, he has been an invaluable contributor to the Gathering Place which he championed as providing care, support, and compassion to some of St. John's most vulnerable. He is resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. For those who want to pay their respects, visitation will be 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM on Tuesday, November 19th, and Wednesday, November 20th. Funeral mass will be held at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist on Thursday, November 21st at 9:30 AM. He will be interred at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gathering Place (https://kindnesswanted.ca/). To send a message of condolence please visit, www.carnells.com

When I come to the end of the road, And the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom filled room, Why cry for a soul set free Miss me a little but not too long, And not with your head bowed low, Remember love that we once shared, Miss me, but let me go. For this is a journey that we all must take, And each must go alone, It`s all a part of the master`s plan, A step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick of heart, Go to the friends we know, And bury your sorrow in doing good deeds, Miss me, but let me go

POWER Hilda
It is with great sadness that the family of Hilda Power announces her passing. Hilda Power was a woman of pure love, of fierce independence, and one of the sweetest people you would ever meet. She fought a hard and difficult battle with cancer over the previous two years, however always managed to smile and thank everyone who helped her along the way. During the worst time of her life, she was a constant beam of light. Hilda was one of ten O'Driscoll children from the north side of Bay Bulls. While she grew up in the post-depression era of limited means, the stories she often told of her childhood were idyllic. Coming of age in the early nineteen sixties, she looked like a movie star in the polaroids her sister Margeurite took, going to dances with beehive hairdos and stylish dresses. She met her soulmate Pat Power, a 'Tors Cove man', at one of those dances during the summer of 1964, and in 1965 got married and had the first of her four sons. Initially they lived at Tors Cove, but Hilda quickly turned Pat into a 'Bay Bulls man'.
They moved away briefly to Toronto for a couple of years in 1968, but wanting her boys to grow up in Bay Bulls, they loaded Pat's car up with everything they owned and drove east for the start of the 1970 school year. Together they raised four boys at Bay Bulls, each of whom inherited the loyal, loving and caring ways of their parents. Pat and Hilda were a loving and devoted couple, and were each other's best friend. She missed him terribly since he died in 2011, and was truly lost without him. She and Pat loved each other and their boys unconditionally. They had a wonderful life together, which was enriched with the arrival of many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom have a bit of Pat and Hilda in their character.
Hilda will especially be remembered for her kindness and soft-heartedness, evident by the love she showed for her pets Bella and Lacey. Hilda's loss is unbearable for those who loved her, and she will be truly missed. Hilda was predeceased by her parents Matthew and Sheila, her husband Pat, and by her sister Marguerite and brother John. Hilda will be lovingly remembered by her sons Glen (Florence), Ronnie (Paula), David (Michele), and Roy (Christine); grandchildren: Ronnie (Nathalie), Sean (Patricia), Daniel (Erica), Alison (Justin), Luke (Hannah), and their mother Tammy, Sarah (Adam), Stephen, Caelen, and Ryan; great grandchildren: Leslie and Broghan. siblings: Barb (Leo), Rosemary, Gary (Anita), Albert (Theresa), Pam (Keith), Kenny, and Rod (Cheryl); brother and sister in laws Anne (Gerry), Richard (Flora), as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will place at Ryan's Funeral Home, Bay Bulls on Friday November 15th from 2 - 9 pm. Mass of Christian burial to take place at Sts. Peter and Paul RC Church, Bay Bulls on Saturday November 16th at 10am. Inurnment to follow at Sacred Heart RC Cemetery, Tors Cove. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation. The team at the centre treated Hilda extremely well during her illness.

WISEMAN Anna (nee Nagle)
Her life was well lived and she was well loved! Passed away at Tiffany Village after a brief illness with family at her side on November 19th, 2019 in her 97th year. Predeceased by her husband Bill (2008), parents James and Bridget Nagle, sisters Mary Ryan, Agatha Seaward, Ursula Murphy, brothers Martin, Percy, Joe and Jim Nagle. Survived by sibling, Sister Colette Nagle. She will be sorely missed by her children, Bill (Michele Gibeault), Wayne (Yvonne Bradbury), Gemma (Jim Langor), Paulette, Darryl (Zondra). Her grandchildren; Jacob and Chelsea Wiseman, Joshua Bradbury-Wiseman (Elizabeth Day), Luke Wiseman, Gillian Langor (Russell Sherman), Nicholas (Stephanie Avery), Sean and Erin Langor, Dylan and Connor Wiseman, beloved nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends are left with many happy and beloved memories.
Anna was born on April 16, 1923 in Riverhead, St. Mary's Bay. She studied Education at Memorial University and loved her teaching career which spanned intervals over four decades in such places as Riverhead, Mall Bay, Placentia, Fortune Harbour, Bishop's Falls and Grand Falls. During the later part of her career she was especially gratified when teaching children with special needs.
Anna met her soulmate in Fortune Harbour, married, and settled in Buchans where the new Wiseman clan began. Here too her entrepreneurial idea was hatched. With four very young children in tow she moved to Bishop's Falls to start, from the ground up, Wiseman's Groceteria. Bill remained in Buchans until the business was on stable ground. Her strong will, determination, quick computational skills and resolve to succeed made her well know amongst business suppliers as a feisty business woman who drove a hard bargain and one whom you could never get over her time.
Following retirement Anna and Bill became snowbirds; they thoroughly enjoyed their winters in Florida always forming new friendships and enjoying life to the fullest. Anna was happiest when engaged in social interaction of any sort whether it was playing cards, scrabble, dancing or simply chatting. Anna was a person of strong faith and lived her life rooted in the beliefs and practices of the Roman Catholic Church. She served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist, volunteered with MQP food bank, received citations from the Red Cross for her work with youth groups and participated in various community organizations over the years. All who knew and loved Anna will never forget her strong will, tenacity, wit, charm, grace (when pertinent) and dignity. She always told you the truth even if it wasn't what you wanted to hear. She exercised little constraint in holding back her opinion and had a knack for telling it as it was in the kindest possible way.
The family would like to thank the 8th floor staff at Tiffany Village and Dr. Mercedes Penton for their kindness, compassion and exceptional care during Anna's brief illness. We would also like to thank Dr. Katie Saunders for her professionalism, ongoing support and care over the years. Please join the family for visitation at Caul's Funeral Home, 84 LeMarchant Road, Friday, Nov. 22nd from 2-5 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at Mary Queen of Peace Church, 135 Torbay Road, Saturday, Nov. 23rd at 10:00 am with a reception to follow. In Anna's memory, donations can be made to the MQP food bank.
