BRADBURY, Ralph MacDonald - WWII Veteran - Age 94 of Halifax, N.S. - Ralph passed away peacefully November 9, 2015, at his home in Halifax. Born in Beachy Cove, Bay Roberts, NL, he was the son of Capt. William Hood Bradbury and Annie Marie (Morgan). Ralph's mother died when he was three. His father, a sea captain away for long periods, was unable to care for his infant children. Ralph spent his young childhood with his beloved Aunt Dora (Winsor) and Uncle Arch Bradbury, whom he regarded as his "real" parents. Educated at Memorial University College and Normal School, he began his professional life as a teacher, but WWII intervened. Volunteering for military service, he joined the 59th Newfoundland Heavy Regiment, Royal Artillery, 23rd Battery. In October 1940 his unit departed St. John's on the S.S. Nerissa to join the war. A letter from his sister Laura on the eve of his departure has been immortalized in the documentary book and film "No Price Too High." His unit was involved in some of the fiercest battles in the war, including the Falaise Gap, Operation Totalize, and the Ardennes Salient, sometimes called the Battle of the Bulge. He witnessed the horrors of Bergen-Belzen. He carried the burden of those horrors alone - he never spoke of those experiences for the rest of his life. Returning to Newfoundland with Helen, his Scottish war-bride, and infant daughter Helen, he was soon employed by the Customs and Excise service, and spent the next 32 years in the public service. His passions were his family, gardening, especially roses, and fly fishing. He took his young daughters on fishing expeditions, often travelling on the Newfie Bullet. Following his retirement, he and his wife relocated to White Rock, BC, where they spent the next 28 years. Several months ago they returned to Halifax to live near their daughter and grandchildren. Ralph enjoyed lawn bowling, gardening, salmon fishing, and writing prose and poetry about "The Land of the Tall Redwoods." his "Bonnie Tartan Lass" and - finally - his war experiences. October 29th was their 73rd anniversary. They especially enjoyed visits to their children and grandchildren in Halifax, NS, and Sydney, Australia. Almost to the end, he maintained his daily email conversations with family and relatives. His granddaughter summed his life perfectly: "What can I say that hasn't already been said? A full life, filled with meaning and love. That's all anyone needs, really. That and fishing." Ralph is survived by his loving wife Helen (McRae), his son Ronald "Max" Bradbury, daughters Dr. Helen (Dr. Donald) Morrison and Heather Bradbury, and grandchildren Andrew Bradbury, Helen Elizabeth Lorraine Morrison, and Donald John Bradbury Morrison. There is to be no service, by his request. His ashes will be returned at a later date to his birthplace in Bay Roberts. Tight lines Ralph! Arrangements have been entrusted to T.J Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 773 Bedford Highway, Unit 18, 902-835-4212.

Predeceased by her parents Patrick and Helen Canning (Fleming) of Merasheen and Burin respectively and sister Trudy. Survived by her loving husband Richard Cashin whom she adored, her nieces Jennifer and Stephanie Girard and nephew John Paul and her great nephews Jack, Dominic, Henry and Nicholas and great niece Lila of Halifax and Calgary. Also, Richard's children Heidi, Maria and Laurence and her extended family in Antigua. St. Vincent University, Halifax and Professor in the Faculty of Education including two terms as Associate Dean of Research and Development at Memorial University. Her review of special education for the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador addressed policy and practice in all areas of special needs. She was a pioneer in that she was one of the first who dared to do research in the "real world", to ask and answer questions critical for improving access and quality of services for children and families. Many times she was advised to follow the more conventional path, to carry out laboratory-based research and not venture beyond the walls of the university. But her dedication to do whatever was needed to provide improved services and supports for children and families kept her work rooted in the "real world". She did not bring children and families to the university to study them, she went out: out to communities in Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador to First Nations communities in Ontario, to communities in the Caribbean working with families, service providers and policy makers everywhere she went. A champion for children, especially the most vulnerable, she has left her mark on improved education and community programs and services, including early health promotion services for families, prevention programs for children with special needs and their families, early childhood education and childcare. She has many "firsts" in these areas, firsts that distinguished her work from other researchers and encouraged a generation of scholars in education and psychology to follow her lead. Remains resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road.Visitation on Friday, November 20th from 2:00 - 9:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 21st at 10:30 am at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Patrick Street, St. John's. In Lieu of flowers donations by be made to the Dr. Patricia Canning Memorial Lecture in Child Health and Development. Patricia was an invaluable member of the team involved in the highly successful early literacy project of Walpole Island First Nation and Kettle and Stony Point First Nation. She supported teachers, school leaders and student and was thrilled at the continuing and most recent success of the children.
"Patricia's ability to reach out to the teachers and her understanding especially of the very youngest children were part of the reason this groundbreaking project worked out so well. As a result, Patricia Canning will live on in the success of countless numbers of Aboriginal students", Paul Martin.

DAVIS, Chris Paul  - It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Chris, a loving partner, father, grandfather and friend due to complications from surgery on November 28th, 2015; age 63. Leaving to mourn the love of his life Mary Morgan, son Chris (Kerri-Lynn) of C.B.S., daughter Jennifer (Brian) Hewitt of Lunenburg, NS (and their mother Beverley Gleeson), step daughter Jan Morgan of C.B.S. Chris had three precious granddaughters who always brought a smile to his face and whom he adored, Mackenzie Morgan, Jessica Davis (mother Connie Davis) and Natalie Hewitt. Predeceased by his parents Capt. John and Grace Davis and sisters Marie Quinn & Ruby Davis. Also left to mourn his loss; sister Bette (John) Powell of Mount Pearl, brothers Thomas (Marjorie) of Topsail, Cal (Maureen) of St. John's, long time friend Harold Porter, special nephew Todd Davis as well as many nieces and nephews and a wide circle of friends, colleagues and team mates. Chris was a man who loved his family dearly. He will be remembered by many for his larger than life laugh and witty sense of humor. His true passion for life was found at "The Cabin" in Millertown surrounded by his closest buddies doing what he enjoyed the most; hunting, fishing and plowing over the snowy trails on his snowmobile. We are extremely grateful that he just returned from his last successful hunt and "time" at the cabin prior to his surgery. Chris loved flipping steaks on the barbeque with a beverage in hand and there was always extra on the grill in case any visitors stopped by for a feed and a few sociables. He loved having a crowd around the table during the weekends spilling yarns or sitting out around the fire pit listening to tunes and sharing some laughs. His love and interest for sports was known by all who knew him. It was a common occurrence to witness every television in the house playing a different sports channel so he could easily get the scores of the current games to compare against his pro-line ticket. Chris coached and played many sports during his life. He played at the local and provincial level in both hockey and softball and could often be found sharing memories of his hockey performance in Saskatoon at the 1971 Canada Games. He was very proud that granddaughter, Jessica, followed in her poppy's footsteps and wore the same number #10 for female hockey during the most recent Canada Games in Prince George. The family would like to send special thanks to the staff of the St. Clare's ICU for their support and comfort during this heartbreaking time. Visitation and a celebration of his life will be held in the James J. Hickey Memorial Funeral Home, Kelligrews on Thursday, December 3, 2015 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Chris's memory to the Ronald McDonald House or to a charity of one's choice. To send a message of condolence, please visit www.hickeysfuneralhome.ca

HEALEY, Agnes Maureen - (December 25th, 1957 - November 2nd, 2015)  - It is with great sadness that I announce my soulmate, Agnes Maureen Healey, has passed away after a long battle with cancer in North Vancouver, British Columbia, on November 2nd, 2015 Canada. Agnes, the youngest of seven siblings was born in St. John's, NL on Christmas Day 1957. She spent the first 16 years of her short life in St. John's before moving to Toronto after graduating from school. Six short years later she moved to Vancouver with her new husband.
It was in Toronto where Agnes started her 41 year career in insurance. With her natural common sense, personable demeanor and wonderful communication skills, Agnes quickly rose through the ranks culminating at her passing as Deputy Executive Director of the Insurance Council of British Columbia. It was at The Council that Agnes enjoyed many opportunities to challenge herself, to work closely with fellow staff and council members and to build close life lasting friendships.
In her personal life family and friends were a priority. Agnes was always on the phone with her siblings and she was keenly interested in and took pride in her many nieces, nephews and their children. She was particularly close to those in Vancouver who became her defacto family. Agnes also liked to travel but enjoyed most the quiet moments spent around a warm campfire.
Agnes possessed superior culinary skills and liked to experiment. She got great pleasure preparing something out of the ordinary which she frequently put to the test at the many family gatherings.
Agnes was known for her kindness and fantastic sense of humor which often ended in infectious laughter. She maintained this unbelievable spirit throughout her ordeal. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Just weeks before her passing, we celebrated our 35th anniversary and were making plans for Christmas. I miss her greatly and will be forever thankful for my time with her.

MURRAY, Daniel Paul - (September 25th, 1965 - November 15th, 2015) - It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Daniel (Dan) Paul Murray of Calgary (originally of Newfoundland), aged 50 years. Dan was born on September 25, 1965 in Placentia, Newfoundland and passed at the Foothills Medical Center in Calgary, Alberta on November 15, 2015 following a courageous battle with heart issues. Dan's passion for life was known to all; his love of travel and the outdoors, his career as a nurse in which he gave so much of himself, but above all his love of family and friends shone in everything he did. Growing up in Newfoundland, he was often found enjoying the outdoors and celebrating life. Following his graduation from the Salvation Army Grace General School of Nursing, he moved to Calgary to begin a distinguished career in the nursing profession. He loved spending time with those he loved, in the mountains near Calgary, and traveling in his old car all over North America with his beloved dog, Lucy. He will be missed by his mother Stella Marie Murray, brothers John (Judy), Gerard (Andre), Randy (Jacinthe), Pat (Louisa) and Ken (Cheryl), sisters Tisch (Paul Hickey), Debbie (Miller Ayre) and Sharon (Bill Bazalinski). Dan's family would like to thank the tireless efforts of the staff of Foothill Medical Center CVICU and the support of long time friends Mark Lipton, Judy Duffett-Martin and Paula Crotty. A celebration of Dan's life is being planned; details will be forthcoming from the family. In lieu of flowers, Dan's memory would be honored by a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a commitment to give blood to the Canadian Red Cross.

POWER, Glynn Michael - With deeply saddened hearts and loving memories, we mourn the loss of Glynn Michael Power on November 17, 2015. Devoted father and loving husband, Glynn leaves to mourn his wife Stephanie and son Sullivan, as well as parents Michael and Xavier, sisters Natalie (Keith) and Christina (David) as well as nephews Aiden and Jesse. Glynn was taken from us before he had truly completed his life story, his life was full of love and laughter and there was beauty in each day we spent with him. In the short time that we had with Glynn, there were countless memories made. The last few days of Glynn's life were some of the best days we've had as a family, taking Sullivan to Florida we were able to spend the week as a family exploring, laughing, playing and making memories that will remain with us for the rest of our lives. Glynn was a passionate musician and had an incredible talent to be able to hear a piece of music and play it note for note. Glynn was a strong, good man who devoted himself to his family and friendships and those that had him in their lives were better because of him. Glynn was always fascinated with the vast expanse of our universe and we would regularly have conversations about our energy and what happens to us when we leave the physical world. I know without a doubt that Glynn continues to be in our presence and will remain watching over and protecting us. Until we meet again, my love, we will float on together for eternity. Also left to mourn are Glynn's mother and father-in-law: Paula and Carl George, brother-in-law Stephen (Peter), Christopher and a large circle of extended family and friends. SAGE (nee O'Brien) (Hann), Helen Mary - (November 2nd, 1927 - November 17th, 2015)
Age 88 It is with great love, respect, and deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother. Mom died with dignity early Tuesday morning, November 17, 2015 at "The Berkeley", Dartmouth, NS. Helen was born and raised in St. John's, Newfoundland; the third daughter of J.T. and Mary Maude O'Brien. As well as her parents, she is predeceased by her husband, Frederick Hann, her second husband Charles Sage, her sister Patricia Barfurth, and her brothers Victor and Gordon O'Brien. Married to Frederick Olaf Hann, Helen raised a family of five children. She traveled throughout Europe many times with Dad over the years. After our Dad's untimely death in 1972, she happily married Charles Sage in 1981. They lived a great life in St. John's and spent many winters away from the rigors of the St. John's weather, in Florida. Mom was an avid bridge player and part of a bridge club in which she enjoyed the companionship of close friends for over sixty years. She had many friends in St. John's, Spain, Portugal, Florida, and latterly at "The Berkeley" in Dartmouth, NS. Mom's character was defined by her unpretentious nature and her generosity in supporting her family and friends through thick and thin. She was faced with many challenges throughout her life that she accepted with grace. Those who knew Mom will dearly miss her broad smile and infectious laugh. Mom's pride and joy was her family. She beamed when she talked about us. Helen will be greatly missed by her five children, 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mom lived the last years of her life near her daughter, Leslie, in Dartmouth, NS. Helen is survived by sisters Margaret (Dunn) and family (St. John's, NL); Alice (Murphy) and family (Montreal); children Frederick (Emma, Sarah and Philip and their Mom, Jenifer Soper and Fred's partner Julia Bray); Vicki (Shears) (Luke and Max and their father, Will Shears); Leslie Hann (Ella Rae and Victor and husband Paul Traversy); Robert (Seana and Leigha and their Mom, Ceanne Evans); Jim (Jessica and Amy and their Mom, Rosemary Hunt). She leaves behind her dearest, life-long friend, Catherine Halliday (Aunty Cak) and Cak's extended family missing their "Aunty Buzzy".
Our family would like to thank Dr. O'Shea in St. John's for his kindness and care over the years; the staff of "Tiffany Village", St. John's. We would particularly like to thank the staff of "The Berkeley". Their care and love for Helen during the last weeks of her life was a great comfort to us all. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Stella Burry Foundation, The Society of St. Vincent's De Paul or the Food Bank. A celebration of Helen's life will be scheduled in the spring of 2016 in St. John's, NL. Online condolences may be viewed or sent to: www.mattatallfuneralhome.com

TIPPETT (nee Lambert), Myrtle - Passed away November 9th, 2015 at 9:30 pm, she would finally sit down in her favourite chair in the living room to read the newspaper or watch a little television. But within minutes, the paper would fall across her chest and her eyes would be closed. Her children would laughingly call her, "Mom! Mom, you're missing the movie." She would open her eyes and sit up, replying, "No, I'm not, I'm watching it." They'd teasingly ask her to prove it by telling them what it was about, and she would invariably cite the opening scene. As the movie ended, the children would waken her again and amusingly nudge each other as she agreed with them about what a good movie it had been. Then, the children would go off to bed, but she would go back to the kitchen to prepare things for the morning. There were five children in her house and always two or three young university students who were either relatives or the children of friends from the small communities around the island. Like Grand Central Station, there was always someone going or coming, rushing or preparing, playing or talking, reading or discussing - and through it all filtered Myrtle's laughter. It would come at the end of a story about her mother's annual trips from Grates Cove to the city to shop for a new hat, and her father's amusement at the entire procedure. It would come while reminiscing about a one-room schoolhouse. In the photographs that were neatly attached to the pages of the albums she started when she got married, her laughter could be felt - in candid shots of building a summer house, showing off a new car, wearing a neat apron in the kitchen or posing in a stylish suit or dress with her long brown hair swept up on the sides. As her children left home, she cried, and it would be many years before the laughter fully returned. Yet it did. It would come easily, when telling how her husband would act when he saw how many lilacs she had cut off the trees and placed in vases around the house. You would hear it, as she opened the door to friends coming for dinner or just dropping by. It would make you smile, when it came hesitantly as she laid dish after dish on the table Christmas Day. And it would make you cry, when it came silently through a beaming smile, when her children came home to visit. In later years, in the smaller house built for retirement, in the small community of Carmanville, there was lots of time to watch a movie from beginning to end. And, although the telephone calls to her children brought many familiar voices to their ears - it was the sound of their mother's laughter, as they hung up the phone, that echoed through their thoughts and sang them off to sleep. Myrtle Tippett, in her 89th year, left our world on November 9th, 2015. She now resides in the hearts of her daughter, Eve (Avrum) Richler; sons, John (Linda) Tippett and Wade Tippett; sisters, Joyce (Clarence) Noseworthy, Minnie Winsor, Marcie Meadus and Harriett Hauger; grandchildren, Nancy, Sean (Tammy), Travis, Leon and Nicolle. She was the loving wife of the late Eric Baxter Tippett, Mother to the late Carl (Pat) and Robert Tippett and dear sister to the late Carrie Kelland, Jack (Phyllis) and Wallace Lambert and Phyllis Meadus. She leaves many memories with special nieces and nephews, Doris Westlund, Eric (Norma) Tippett, Edna (Robbie) Blackwood, Louise (Cliff) Mouland, Carson (Georgiana) Lambert and Brenda (Walt) Pelley; and, many other nieces, nephews, friends and family too numerous to list but not forgotten. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of Carnell's Funeral Home on Freshwater Road on Saturday, November 14th, 2015 at 11 am, followed by a reception at Carnell's. As an expression of Sympathy, donations may be made in her memory to the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Fund.
