Bridget (Bride) Byrne was born in Kitchuses, Conception Bay in 1914, the eldest daughter of William (Billy) and Catherine (Kate) Wade. She was educated at the local school and the Sisters of Mercy Convent in Conception Harbour. She came to Corner Brook in 1931 with her friend Kitty Mansfield and remained here the rest of her life. She met George W. Byrne, whom she married in 1937. Her life in Corner Brook was a happy and fulfilling one. Her kindness and generosity earned her many friends, and her in-laws took her into the Byrne family as one of themselves. Her husband George, who predeceased her in 1980 was likewise loved by Bride`s family, and thoroughly enjoyed the annual visits the family spent with her relatives in Kitchuses. She was a devoted wife and mother to her husband George and children Marie and Cyril. Her life values were simple and firm which were part of her devotion to her christian and Catholic beliefs. Her life was long, full, assured and her death was likewise without fuss or bother. She was deeply loved and we will all miss her very much. A graduate Nurse of St. Clare`s Mercy Hospital, Shirley worked in Burin and in Wawa, Ont., before going to Europe to work in Ireland, Germany and England. She chose England as her permanent residence and went to work at the Middle Sex Hospital in Central London. In 1974 she was promoted to Senior Nurse for Outpatient Services. For the past seven years she worked at a Clinic in South Woodford, England doing research on Osteoporosis until her retirement last year due to illness. He will lovingly be remembered and deeply missed by his best friend and wife Matilda (Bond); three children, Wade (Sandra), Cole Harbour, Frank (Geralyn), Brooklin, On and Anne (Brent) Gillan, Cole Harbour. He was predeceased by mother, Agnes (Fox), father, Frank, brothers Gordon and Eli, sister Rudy Teron, and brothers-in-law Newton Blagdon and Gerry Williams. He was beloved "Poppy" to grandchildren Scott (Marsha), Matthew, Jennifer, Sarah, Jacob, Brendon and Leanne and great-grandfather to Haylie. He had a large extended family, which included many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces. Bill was born in Grand Bank, NF, where he was an active community leader involved with countless organizations including Grand Bank United. He held a Bachelor of Science degree from Memorial University of NF and worked with the Dept. of Fisheries and Oceans for 25 years prior to retiring in 1987. He and Matilda moved to Cole Harbour, NS in 1992 where he continued as an active community member. He devoted much of his time to his choir at Cole Harbour-Woodside United Church as well as many church committees including extended ministry outreach programs. He was a Master Mason, a member of Athole Lodge, ISGRNS. A wonderful father, a much-loved brother and son. To all who knew him, he was a generous and loyal friend, slow to anger and full of compassion. All will dearly miss him.
