Predeceased by her husbands Adam Newham "Tommy" Johnston in 1952 and Erlan C. Baily in 1976. Leaving to mourn, her brother E. L. "Laurie" Halliday, Victoria, BC, her nephews James D. Halliday (Barbara), Deep River, ON, and Robert G. Halliday (Carolyn), St. John`s, NL and her niece Alexia Holden (Fred), St. John`s, NL. Cremation and interment in Edmond, Okla.

BAKER, Mildred (Grace) - Passed peacefully away at the Health Sciences Centre on November 07, 2003, Mildred (Grace) Baker after a long and happy life at age 88 years. Predeceased by her husband Hubert; son Lorne; brothers: Harry (Millicent) Payne and Bert (Gertrude) Payne; sister Gertrude (Hayward) Burden. Leaving to mourn daughters: Myrna Tar (Steven) Edmonton, AB, Norma, St. John`s; sons: Carl (Cathy) Prince George, BC, Mervin (Patricia), Grand Falls/ Windsor, Lowell (Shirley) Sudbury, ON; daughter-in-law Maxine Baker, Edmonton, AB; thirteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. BENTEAU, Ursula Mary - Peacefully at Lakeridge Health Corporation Bowmanville on November 17, 2003, Ursula Benteau at the age of 68. Daughter of the late Lucy and Reginald Benteau of Point May, Newfoundland. Beloved sister of Gerry, Lillian Morris, Leona Daley, Marcella Scop, Stella Strycker, Bernice Lindemann and Helen Mentzer. Predeceased by sister: Sheila and brothers: Austin and Michael. Fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews: Ruth, Diane, Denise, Donna, Annette, Carolyn, Christine, Howard, Brian, Rick, John, Michael and Derek. Ursula will be sadly missed by all, but especially by Jake and Kaitlyn. BOLAND, CUMMINGS Mary E. (Betty MacDonald) - Mary E. Cummings, age 60 of Wilmington, DE passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2003 surrounded by her loving family. Betty was born on November 3, 1943 in St. John`s, Newfoundland. She came to the United States in 1965. Betty was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was predeceased by her father, Thomas MacDonald. Betty is survived by her husband of 38 years, Robert A. Cummings; her daughters, Valerie Palese and her husband, Daniel, of Newark and Kelly Cummings MacMillan of Newark, DE; her mother, Mary MacDonald Vallis of St. John`s, Newfoundland; her brothers, Gordon, Gervase and Edward MacDonald, all of Ontario, Canada; her sisters, Bernadette Walsh of St. John`s, Newfoundland and Vivian Kilmer of Ontario, Canada; and her grandchildren, Amanda and Daniel Palese and Sydney and Natalie MacMillan; also relatives and friends in St. John`s, NL. BYRNE, Bridget (Bride) - Pasadena, NL. Bridget (Bride) Byrne was born in Kitchuses, Conception Bay in 1914, the eldest daughter of William (Billy) and Catherine (Kate) Wade. She was educated at the local school and the Sisters of Mercy Convent in Conception Harbour. She came to Corner Brook in 1931 with her friend Kitty Mansfield and remained here the rest of her life. She met George W. Byrne, whom she married in 1937. Her life in Corner Brook was a happy and fulfilling one. Her kindness and generosity earned her many friends, and her in-laws took her into the Byrne family as one of themselves. Her husband George, who predeceased her in 1980 was likewise loved by Bride`s family, and thoroughly enjoyed the annual visits the family spent with her relatives in Kitchuses. She was a devoted wife and mother to her husband George and children Marie and Cyril. Her life values were simple and firm which were part of her devotion to her christian and Catholic beliefs. Her life was long, full, assured and her death was likewise without fuss or bother. She was deeply loved and we will all miss her very much. Survived by children: Marie Gross (Rupert), Toronto, ON, Cyril, Halifax, NS; grandchildren: John, Joseph, Marie, Padraig and Tobias; brother Patrick Francis (Pete) Cole, Holyrood; sister, Mary Murphy, Kitchuses; brothers-in-law: Kevin Byrne, Corner Brook and James Byrne, St. John`s; sisters-in-law: Florence O`Reilly, Wolfville, NS, Theresa Wall, Corner Brook, Sheila Byrne, Stephenville, Ula Byrne, Corner Brook and many loving nieces and nephews. FLOOD, Wanda Noel (Hobbs) - 1955 - 2003. Wanda Noel Flood (Hobbs), 48, of Mount Pearl, died peacefully in the presence of family members in the Queen Elizabeth Health Sciences Centre, Halifax, on Friday, November 21, 2003. She was born in Shellbrook, Saskatchewan; the youngest daughter of Thomas and Mary (Noel) Hobbs. She was predeceased by her parents. Wanda was an exceptional wife to Anthony (Tony) and mother to Rebecca, Robyn and Scott. She leaves them with a wonderful legacy of love, compassion and caring. Wanda`s friends are many. She was a loving sister to Ruth (Tom) Donovan of Mount Pearl, Sharron (Ross) Pomeroy of Grand Falls Windsor and Gael (Phillip) Page of Halifax, and daughter-in-law of Ed and Joyce Flood of Grand Falls-Windsor. GRANT, Clara Mary (nee Hawco) - Passed away peacefully on November 13, 2003 in the Palliative Care Unit of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Halifax. Originally from Mount Carmel, SMB, Newfoundland, Clara spent most of her life in Nova Scotia. She originally attended the Halifax School for the Blind as a child of five, and later returned to this province to settle with her husband and bring up two beautiful daughters. Leaving to mourn loving husband Gary, daughters Maureen (Grant-Novak) and Allison, as well as grandchildren Brooke, Courtney and Blayke. Clara was predeceased by her parents William and Annie Hawco, along with beloved granddaughter Haylie. She will be remembered fondly by loving family, including brother John (Lucy), Jimmy (Theresa), sisters Dot (Ben) and Katherine (Joe), along with many nieces and nephews. Clara was honoured to have a major network of friends all across Canada, most of which she kept in touch with regularly. LANGFORD, Randolph "Randy" - It is with the deepest sorrow, that the family of the late Randolph Langford announce that he passed away peacefully on November 13, 2003 in his 74th year at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville after a brief illness. Randy was the son of the late William and Martha Langford of Hampden, NL. Also predeceased by his sister, Melvina Small, as well as infant brother, Garland, and Randy`s infant twin sister, Jean, all of Hampden. Born in St. John`s on 1 September 1935, she was the youngest child of the late Rev. W.J. and Mrs. Woolfrey. Left to mourn in Florida are daughters: Cynthia, Bonnie, and Linda; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. George was Ranger No. 188 in the Newfoundland Ranger Force, Firefighter with the USAF at Harmon Field, and Fire Chief with Department of Transport at Stephenville. ROLEY, Rolf Wight, Ph.D., P.E. - Passed peacefully away at St. Mary`s Hospital, Athens, Georgia, on Monday, November 17, 2003. Leaving to mourn his loving wife, Jean (nee Neary); son: Robert D. Roley and daughter-in-law: Janet Roley; grandson: Bryan Roley; several nieces and nephews, members of the Neary family, many friends and associates in the engineering and legal professions. Rolf was born on April 14, 1918, in Pana, Illinois, where he obtained his early education. Subsequently, he attended Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy in Rolla, Missouri, from which he received the degree of Engineer of Mines, and Illinois Christian College where he was granted the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering Science. Licensed in the United States and five other countries, he worked most of his professional career in Georgia and Arkansas but was widely known in the United States, South America and Canada for his work in forensic engineering. He was a member of twenty national and international organizations, including The Explorers Club of New York.At Rolf`s request, cremation has taken place. SQUIRES, SWEENEY - ISLAM, Shirley - R.N. BA. Honors, BSc Masters. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Shirley Sweeney-Islam announce the passing at her home in Cambridge, England on November 02, 2003 at the age of 61. A graduate Nurse of St. Clare`s Mercy Hospital, Shirley worked in Burin and in Wawa, Ont., before going to Europe to work in Ireland, Germany and England. She chose England as her permanent residence and went to work at the Middle Sex Hospital in Central London. In 1974 she was promoted to Senior Nurse for Outpatient Services. For the past seven years she worked at a Clinic in South Woodford, England doing research on Osteoporosis until her retirement last year due to illness. Predeceased by her parents Herbert & Florence Sweeney, brother Ronald and wife Leona. Left to mourn her husband Moz, Cambridge, England; four sisters: Mary Rockwood (Fred), Kingston, N.S., Lucy Barry (Thomas), Grand Falls-Windsor, NL, Patricia Caravan (Bill), Gibson, B.C., Joan Mulrooney, Calgary, AB; six brothers: Frank (Louise), Leo (Marjorie), Herbert (Matilda), Bernard (Daphne), John (Joy), all of Grand Falls-Windsor, Joseph, Point au Bay, large number of nieces, nephews, other family relatives and friends. THORNHILL, William (Bill) Fox - 72, Cole Harbour November 8, 2003, surrounded by family and friends, after a long courageous battle with illness he has taken his place with our Lord. He will lovingly be remembered and deeply missed by his best friend and wife Matilda (Bond); three children, Wade (Sandra), Cole Harbour, Frank (Geralyn), Brooklin, On and Anne (Brent) Gillan, Cole Harbour. A devoted brother to Suzie Blagdon, Ewart (Edna), Harold (Irene), Margaret (Jim) Hamilton, Bertha (Gordon) Andrews, Shirley (Eli) Patten, sisters-in-law Vadie and Emma and brothers-in-law, Bob Teron and John (Evely) Bond. He was predeceased by mother, Agnes (Fox), father, Frank, brothers Gordon and Eli, sister Rudy Teron, and brothers-in-law Newton Blagdon and Gerry Williams. He was beloved "Poppy" to grandchildren Scott (Marsha), Matthew, Jennifer, Sarah, Jacob, Brendon and Leanne and great-grandfather to Haylie. He had a large extended family, which included many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces. Bill was born in Grand Bank, NF, where he was an active community leader involved with countless organizations including Grand Bank United. He held a Bachelor of Science degree from Memorial University of NF and worked with the Dept. of Fisheries and Oceans for 25 years prior to retiring in 1987. He and Matilda moved to Cole Harbour, NS in 1992 where he continued as an active community member. He devoted much of his time to his choir at Cole Harbour-Woodside United Church as well as many church committees including extended ministry outreach programs. He was a Master Mason, a member of Athole Lodge, ISGRNS. A wonderful father, a much-loved brother and son. To all who knew him, he was a generous and loyal friend, slow to anger and full of compassion. All will dearly miss him. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, Dartmouth. WHEELER, James Charles - Passed peacefully away at St. Clare`s Mercy Hospital on Wednesday, November 19, 2003, James Charles Wheeler, age 68 years. Predeceased by parents, Charles and Ethel Wheeler; brothers: Heber and Victor; sisters: Lillian Evans and Pearl Murphy. Leaving to mourn a large circle of family; sisters: Helen Gollop (Gord) and Florence Tucker; brother Clarence Wheeler; other relatives and friends. Resting at Carnell`s Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road. from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Friday. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2003 at 11 a.m. from the Anglican Cathedral. Interment to follow in the Anglican Cemetery, Forest Road. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in James` memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Leaving to mourn her loving husband of 47 years, Michael, daughters: Cathy O`Neill (Terry Dalton), Lorraine (Jim) Roche, Geraldine (Keith) Critch, Jeanette Yetman, Pauline (Norm) Vardy, Karen (John) Noel, Kelly and Monica; sons: Michael (Rosemary), Tim (Melissa Ducet) and Joe (Jodi Anderson); sister Monica Kinsella; fourteen grandchildren; also leaving to mourn Pat O`Neill and Tom Yetman and a large circle of family and friends. Resting at Gibbons` Funeral Home, St. Mary`s, on Wednesday, November 5, 2003, 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm and Thursday, November 6, 2003, 10:00 am - 5:00 pm; 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm. WHITE, Rosalind - Passed peacefully away at the Palliative Care Unit Leonard A. Miller Centre on November 26, 2003, of Holyrood, age 60 years. She was the daughter of Otto P. Kelland, Flatrock and the late Hilda Kelland. Left with fond and special memories her loving husband David, daughter Sherry (Brian), sons: Steve (Ruth), Dan (Ilda), Ron (Sharlene), Keith (Bonnie), Ken (Yvonne). Her special grandchildren, brothers, sisters, and special friend Shirley. Also leaving to mourn nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Resting at Hickey`s Funeral Home in Holyrood on Thursday 2-4 and 7-9 pm and Friday 10 am to 1:30 pm. from where the funeral service will take place at 2 pm. Cremation to follow. YOUNG, James - Passed peacefully away at the Dr. Walter Templeman Hospital Bell Island on November 28, 2003, age 74 years. Left to mourn with loving memories wife Myrtle, three daughters: Linda Whalen (Walter), Joan Pynn (Wayne), both of Cambridge, ON, Mary Parsons (George), Bell Island; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren; several brothers and sisters as well as many other relatives and friends. Resting at Pendergast`s Funeral Home on Saturday and Sunday from 2-10 pm. Funeral Mass on Monday, December 1, 2003, at 2 pm from St. Michael`s Church. Interment Roman Catholic Cemetery, Bell Island.
