Passed away at the James Paton Memorial Hospital on November 25th, 2000, from St. Brendan's, Mr. Francis Aylward, in his 87th year. Left with fond and loving memories is wife Alice of the Agnes Pratt Home, St. John's; sons; Frank and Cathy, St. John's, Melvin and Mary, St. Brendan's, Bill, St. Brendan's; daughters; Loretta and Gary Scott, St. John's, Viola and James Follett, St. John's, Ida, St. John's, Linda and Billy Baird, St. John's, Maxine and son Shane, St. John's; 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren; as well as a large circle of other relatives and friends. Funeral took place on November 28th, at 10:30 A.M. from St. Brendan's Roman Catholic Church. Interment R.C. Cemetery, St. Brendan's. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Stacey's Funeral Home Ltd., Gander.

Predeceased by grandparents: Herbert Arnott, 1979, Millicent Taylor, 1992 and Douglas Taylor, 1996. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, her father David (Brenda) and her mother Hilda (Melvin Rowe); grandmother Lillian Arnott; special friend Lori May Gavin; also uncles, aunts, cousins and other relatives and friends. Passed away suddenly at his home on November 30th, 2000, John Austin, Brownsdale, Trinity Bay in his 78th year. Predeceased by wife Mary (Mar. 1993), brother Charlie (Jun. 1997). Leaving to mourn three sisters; Frances Stacey, Pearl Bursey and Mabel Nixon; two sisters-in-law; Adelaide Austin of St. John's and Dora Pelley (Ed) at Carbonear; brother-in-law Andrew Parsons (Eliz) at Freshwater and a number of nephews, nieces and friends. Funeral was held at Brownsdale United Church on Dec. 3rd, 2000. Rev. Penny Postlethwaite conducted the service. Interment at United Church Cemetery, Brownsdale.

Passed away on Tuesday, November 14th, 2000, Robert George Badcock, aged 60 years. Passed away as a result of a tragic pedestrian accident in South Korea on November 30th, 2000, Todd Michael Barter. Left with fond and loving memories are his parents Bruce and Alice (O'Neill); his sisters; Beverley and Jill; brother-in-law Joseph O'Brien; and a large circle of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Bartlett, Maxwell
Passed peacefully away at the Bonavista Complex Hospital on November 27th, 2000, after a short illness, Maxwell (Max) Bartlett of Newman's Cove, age 80 years. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 55 ½ years, Nellie (nee Elliott); son Wes (Shirley), with whom they resided; daughter Pat (Cal) Cole, Clarenville; four grandsons; Blair and Ian Bartlett, Craig (Donna) and Todd (Jill) Cole; three great-grandchildren; Jordyn, Brady and Maggie Cole; one brother; Clyde (Bessie) at Catalina and one sister; Maxine (Bob) Sweetland at Bonavista; one brother-in-law Ben (Ruby) Elliott at Newman's Cove; also a large number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Family Service was held on Monday, November 28th, 2000 at St. Andrew's Anglican Church, Newman's Cove with Funeral Service conducted on Wednesday, November 29th, 2000 by Reverend Wayne Short, assisted by Reverend Heber Elliott, a longtime family friend. Reverend D. Fagan also attended the family service. Organist for the Funeral Service was Mrs. Doris Freake from Catalina.

Died peacefully but suddenly at the Health Sciences Centre on Wednesday, November 1st, 2000, William Bellamy of St. John's. Leaving to mourn his wife Mabel;, son Dean William J. Bellamy and wife Derrice; grandchildren; David and Elizabeth; sister; Sister Katherine Bellamy, RSM; brother-in-law John Young (Hazel); sisters-in-law; Muriel Hoddinott and Ada Young; other relatives and friends. At his request, cremation has taken place. The family will be receiving visitors at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Thursday and Friday from 2-4 P.M. and 7-9 P.M.. Funeral Service from St. Michael and All Angels Church on Saturday, November 4th, 2000 at 11 A.M., with interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Forest Road. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to CARE of Canada or Primates World Relief Fund.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Walter Benger announce his sudden passing on November 8th, 2000, at the age of 77. Predeceased by his wife, Bernice and two brothers; Thomas and Harold. He will be sadly missed by his only son Kevin (Anne); four daughters; Sheila Halfyard (David), Pamela Moss (Winston), Jessica Dyke (Carl), Karen Hapgood (Leonard); special friend Lorraine Chaffey; as well as his 12 grandchildren. Funeral Services took place on November 11th, 2000 at Holy Cross Church in Eastport.

. Passed peacefully away at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre early Tuesday morning, November 7th, 2000, Mrs. Elizabeth Selena (Blagdon) Blandford of Grand Bank. Age 89 years. Predeceased by her husband, Arch Pearce Blandford, June 14th, 1972. Left to mourn; sister Laura Simms of Grand Bank; sister-in-law Susie Blagdon, Grand Bank; other relatives and friends. Cremation to take place at St. John's. Private burial to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery where Elizabeth will be laid to rest with her late husband.

Caines, Gertrude
Pasadena, NL (formerly of Corner Brook). It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gertrude Caines announce her passing at the Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Saturday, November 25th, 2000, at the age of 80 years. Mrs. Caines was a retired nurse. She will be sadly missed by four sons; Paul (Betty), Pasadena, Derek, Norris Point, Brian, Ottawa, ON, and Blair, Toronto, ON; three grandchildren; Melissa, Jeffrey and Scott. She will also be greatly missed by caretakers Linda McIsaac, Lori Gallant and Melissa Boutilier; as well as a large circle of friends both within and outside of the Nursing Communities of NL and Lab.. She is predeceased by her husband Clifford in 1982. Friends may visit Fillatre's Funeral Home, 4 St. Marks Avenue, on Monday from 2-4 P.M. and 7-9 P.M.. The Funeral Service will take place from St. John the Evangelist Anglican Cathedral, Main Street, on Tuesday, November 28th, at 2 P.M.. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Victoria Order of Nurses.

Passed peacefully away November 26th, 2000, at the HSC, Ada May Carter, age 54. Predeceased by her parents, Angus and Blanche McDonald; also her sister Mildred Fleming (May 2000). Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, Max Carter; brothers; Bill McDonald (Lorraine), Jim McDonald (Marie); loving niece and friend Tammy Piccott, husband Peter; Godchild and nephew David Fleming and Godchild and niece Wanda Caines; also other nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. We would also like to sincerely thank at this time the staff of the Hoyles Home for their loving care and compassion given to Ada over the last few years. Proud Veteran of WW11 R.C.A.F.. Peacefully at the Kingston General Hospital, Kingston, Ontario, after a lengthy illness, on Tuesday, November 28th, 2000 at the age of 75 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Thelma (nee Peckham). Loving father of Paul (Julie) of Cornwall, Brad (Margaret Angel) of St. John's and Jane Armstrong (Carl) of Barrie, ON. Proud grandfather of 7 grandchildren. Dear brother of Jean Lloyd and Ardith Goodfellow and fondly remembered by sisters-in-law; Marion McNeil (Dugger) of Halifax and Helen Young of Burlington. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents Percival and Annie DeYoung (nee Mathison). Jack lived in St. John's, Newfoundland before settling in Kingston. Before retiring, he had an interesting career with Crane Canada for 43 years. Jack was respected and loved by all of his colleagues. Health permitting, Jack enjoyed golf and curling and was a member of the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club. All those who knew him will miss him dearly. DOBBIN, Elizabeth Katherine (nee Cousins) - Passed away at the Agnes Pratt Home on Monday, November 13, 2000. Born October 19, 1912 at Kelligrews, Conception Bay, Newfoundland. Predeceased by her husband William Dobbin, Sydney, Nova Scotia; her parents: William and MaryAnn Cousins; one brother John; and four sisters: Marie Cousins, Nellie Kelly, Maggie Jordan and Sister Dominic Cousins, PBVM. Betty leaves to mourn one sister, Mrs. Mary Wall; two sisters-in-law: Mildred Howard and Kathleen Walker; one brother-in-law Raymond Dobbin in Nova Scotia; nieces and nephews. Following teacher training at Littledale, Betty began her teaching career as principal at Cape Broyle at the age of sixteen years. Mrs. Dobbin subsequently taught at Stephenville Crossing, Buchans, Gander and at Memorial University on Parade Street. She went overseas to Antigonish, Nova Scotia, to further her studies and graduated from St. Francis Xavier University. After joining her husband Bill Dobbin in Nova Scotia, Betty taught at East Bay in Cape Breton for fifteen years before retiring in 1975. It has been said that a teacher touches the future. Betty Dobbin helped shape the history of many communities in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. Even today she is remembered fondly and held in high esteem by her former pupils and colleagues. We thank God for the many gifts Betty shared so generously with all those fortunate enough to have had her as a teacher and friend. Visitation in the James J. Doucet, Lillian Margaret (nee Fitzgerald)
Passed away peacefully Friday, November 17th, 2000, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital , age 83. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Stella (Doherty) Fitzgerald. Lillian was a devout member of the St. Anthony Daniel Church and a longtime member of the CWL. She was an Avid Bridge player and an active fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society and the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. She will be sadly missed by two daughters; Linda (George) Fraser, Sydney, and Nancy (Allan) Green, St. John's, Newfoundland; a daughter-in-law Camilla, North Rustico, PEI; two sons, Brian, Wainwright, AB, and Frank, Halifax. She is also survived by five dear grandchildren; Stephen (Jill), Kimberlea, Julie Green and Daren (Crystal) and Tracey Doucet, and also by four precious great-grandchildren; Stephanie Kent, Ian and Sara Doucet and Dylan Green. Mrs. Doucet is also survived by three sisters; Dorothy (James) Hearn, Warren, Michigan, Stella Jennings and Sadie (Frank) Heffernan, both of Sydney; one brother Pat (Kay) Fitzgerald, Sydney. She was predeceased by her husband, Laurence John, a son Norbert Patrick and by a brother, Wilfred. The late Mrs. Doucet will have visitation Sunday, 2-4 P.M. and 7-9 P.M. at T.W. Wilf was a veteran of the 166th Newfoundland Regiment-Mentioned in Dispatches, a Provincial Past President to the Royal Canadian Legion, member of the Executive of Dominion Command, and five times President of the Legion Branch #8, Gander. He was also involved in many local public service organizations, serving on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Corps of Commissioners and the Legion Manor in Gander. Passed peacefully away at his beloved Musgrave Harbour, November 24th, 2000, Mr. Raymond W. Guy. Mr. Guy was born in Musgrave Harbour, July 5, 1912 and moved to Grand Falls in 1935. After distinguished service with the Royal Navy, 1940 - 1945, he returned to Grand Falls with his bride Gillian (Spooner). There, he was active in the community, business and politics. He represented the District of Grand Falls in the provincial legislature 1957 - 1960. In 1964, her moved to St. John's where he worked with the Emergency Measures Organization until his retirement in 1978. In 1980, Ray and Gill moved to Musgrave Harbour where, as a team, they became "the gardeners of the NE coast". Ray continued and loved his craft of historical writing and storytelling. His articles, books and speeches have been and will continue to be enjoyed and appreciated by all. Leaving to mourn his beloved wife, Gillian; children Jane (Francis), John (Jennifer), Roger (Sheilagh), Daphne (Gerald Mercer), Nicola; 13 grandchildren; David, Alice, Adam, Gill, Thomas, Stephen, Anna, Rebecca, Emily, Andrew, Caroline, Katie, Simeon; 2 great-grandchildren; Olivia and Dylan. Predeceased by brother Brian earlier this year. Originally of Bolton, Lancashire, England, Geoffrey and his family resided in Halifax for many years before moving to St. John's in 1985. Geoffrey proudly served in Her majesty's Royal Navy and was a veteran of World War 11. He later began a lifetime career as a professional electrical engineer which he pursued with great dedication in both the United Kingdom and in Canada. One of his favorite interests was music which he energetically pursued in later years as a member of the Gower Street United Church Band. Lutze, Sr. in Standish, MI, in 1958. Surviving are; husband Wayne C. Lutze, Sr.; son Wayne C. Lutze Jr. and wife Beatrice of New Lothrop; daughter, Dr. Faith Lutze and husband Richard Anderson of Tensed, Idaho; special grandsons; Wayne C. , passed away on November 29th, 2000, at her home in Norwalk Conn., USA, as a result of lung cancer. She was predeceased by her husband Web in 1976, and had lived with her son Bruce and his family since 1982. She is survived by her two sons Bruce and David, and three grandchildren; Bryan, Karen, and Steven. Betty was born on November 28th, 1916 in St. John's to Charles and Marion (nee Winter) Ford. Betty attended Spencer College in St. John's and later worked for the United States Army at Fort Pepperrell. She moved to New York City in the late 1940's where she met Wilbur James Meek. They married on February 4th, 1950. During Lt. Col. Meek's military career the family lived in several cities in the US and Europe, until Web's retirement to New London, Conn., in 1967. In her adult life, Betty worked in various business offices, and was an avid reader, bridge player, and puzzle solver. She was active in many fund-raising and volunteer activities for organizations such as The American Red Cross, The Norwalk Women's Club, and The Norwalk Hospital Thrift Shop (The Treasure House). Contributions in her name may be made to the Norwalk United Methodist Church, 718 West Ave., Norwalk CT, 06851; The Treasure House, 5 Isaacs St., Norwalk, CT, 06851; The Crisis Center, Maple St., Norwalk, CT, 06856. She was the daughter of the late Mary Suzanne (Wilcox) and Robert Bartlett. She was predeceased by husband Gordon Moses Bartlett Rabbits. Also sisters, Lillian Hammond (Elroy), Winnifred Hammond (Walter), both of California, Elsie Harvey (Bert), Bertha Bartlett, Betty McGeachy (Malcolm), Dorothy Spittal (Alex) Wilcox (Frank), Ruth Badcock (A. Clarence), Evelyn died in infancy; brothers; Raymond (Gladys), Malcolm (Mary Ann), Clarence died in infancy. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Mary Irene graduated from Memorial Normal School and taught at Brigus United Church Academy until retirement. She was very active in church and school affairs. She resided all her life in Brigus.
