ARSENAULT-THISTLE (nee St. Croix), Rose Rita - Passed peacefully away at Chancellor Park on May 15th, 2013, Rose Arsenault-Thistle, aged 92 years. Predeceased by her first husband Edward Arsenault, 1960, second husband Herbert Thistle, 1995, sisters Nora Cameron, Esther Burke, Ada Holwell, brothers Stan St. Croix and Bill St. Croix. Left with cherished memories her children: Dr. William Arsenault (Jennifer), Labrador City, Patricia Johnson (Jim), San Antonio, TX, and Joseph Arsenault (Carol), St. John's; stepsons: Carson Thistle (Lorraine), St. John's, and Calvin Thistle (Barbara), Sidney, NS, also sister-in-law Betty St. Croix, Niagara Falls, ON; grandchildren: David Arsenault (Jose), Susan Arsenault, Chris Robinson (Lee), Suzette Johnson, Randall Arsenault and William Arsenault (Charmaine); four great-grandchildren and several step- grandchildren, nephews, other relatives and friends. ATKINSON, Hugh James - Passed suddenly away at Carbonear General Hospital on Monday, May 27, 2013, Mr. Hugh James Atkinson of Bay Roberts, aged 56 years. Predeceased by father David Haig Tucker Atkinson. The Atkinson family has been prominent in the medical, business, and social fabric of the Bay Roberts community for generations. Hugh, and his wife Jane (nee Smallwood) have operated Atkinson's Flowers for a number of years at the Bay Roberts Mall. Leaving to mourn his loving and devoted wife, Jane Atkinson (nee Smallwood); sons: Jonathan (Stacey) Atkinson, Richard (Maggie Payne) Atkinson; mother, Isabella B. AUCOIN, Ron - It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Ron Aucoin announce his sudden passing with family at his side at the Health Science Centre on Thursday, May 9th, 2013 at the age of 65 years. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Joan; 2 daughters, Lisa White in Stephenville Crossing and Lana (Gerry) Irish in Saint John, NB; son Michael (Pam) in Edmonton, AB; and his parents Nora and Raymond O'Quinn in Stephenville. Also leaving to mourn are his 2 brothers; Brendan (Cindy) O'Quinn in Stephenville, Leonard O'Quinn in St. John's, 5 sisters; Debbie (Andrew) Butt, Betty (Garry) Murphy, both in St. John's, Carol O'Quinn, Melanie (Perry) Alexander, and Michelle (Scott) Russell, all in Stephenville, and his grandchildren David and Jenna. There is a large circle of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends in Stephenville, Grand Falls, and St. John's who will also cherish his memory. He was predeceased by his son David and his sister Sheila. He will be greatly missed by all who were privileged to know him and spend any time with him. Ron will be remembered as a very independent man, who loved his family and his home. Family gatherings were his forte with his prime rib barbeques and card games; he was the one who provided the laughter and good times. Ron was an enthusiast which showed in his hunting, fishing, curling and golfing, and in his never ending passion for playing the drums. In recent years Ron has encountered many challenges, but that never stopped him from living each day to the fullest. Visitation will take place on Monday May 13th, 2013, from 2-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at Russell's Funeral Home, 57 Prince Rupert Drive in Stephenville. Funeral mass will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14th at St. Stephen's Church on West Street in Stephenville followed by interment at the Hillside Interfaith Cemetery, Hansen Highway. BANFIELD, Blanche Ethel - (February 21, 1920 - May 28, 2013) - Passed away at the Blue Crest Nursing Home, Grand Bank on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 Blanche Ethel Banfield (Follett) in her 93rd year. Predeceased by husband Capt. Harvey Banfield (Sept. 2011), mother & father Capt. George & Jessie Follett, brothers Albert, Frazer, Charles & Wilfred, sisters Freda & Janie. Leaving to mourn daughter Sharon, son-in-law Sam Barnes, grandsons Steven (Sandra) and Sterling (Julie); great-granddaughters Megan & April, and grandma's girl Abby. BARRON, John Gerard - It is with great sadness that the family of the late John Gerard Barron, 81, of Antigonish, Nova Scotia, announces his passing on Friday, May 24th, 2013 at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax. Born in St. John's, Newfoundland, John is the son of the late Francis and Isabelle (Walsh) Barron. JB was a wise man with a wonderful sense of humour. He worked as an insurance claims adjuster, retiring from the field in the early 1980's after serving more than two decades with the Underwriters' Adjustment Bureau. JB was extremely proud of his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Ruby (Hipditch) Barron, daughters Linda Barron (Calgary), Lisa Aucoin (Tom) of Truro, son, Gerard Barron (Jenny) of Halifax and six beautiful grandchildren Ashley, Karli, Morgan, Justin, Evan and Stephen; and sister Rosemary Barron of St. John's Newfoundland. Predeceased by his brother Frank Barron and sister Helen Barron, both of St. John's, Newfoundland and half-sisters Marg Barolet of California, Maryland and Mary Ensminger of Escondido, California. BOWDEN, Dr. Bruce Lawrence - Passed peacefully away on May 26, 2013 at Chancellor Park in the arms of his loving family, Bruce Lawrence Bowden, aged 85 years. A Compassionate Gentleman's Gentleman. BRENNAN, David Thomas - February 15, 1947 - May 17, 2013 - Passed away surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness on Friday, May 17, 2013. Predeceased by his parents Edward and Mary; sisters Mary, Elizabeth, Rose and Margaret; and brothers Edward, John, Bob and Ron. Leaving with a life full of wonderful memories are his wife of 46 years, Sharon (Whitten); two daughters Kelly (Paul North) and Colleen (Harold Whelan) with cherished grandson Jack. Also his brothers Mike (Hannah), Bill (Anna), Gerald (Loretta), Cyril (Joan), Leo (Peggy) and Pat; sisters Anne Hann and Kathleen (Mike Stevenson). Sisters-in-law from the Brennan family, Alice, Eleanor and Bernice. BROWN, Thomas (Tom) - Passed away suddenly on May 8, 2013, in Ajax, ON, Thomas Cyril Rubert Brown, age 51 years. Predeceased by his father Thomas Brown (May 12, 1976). Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Gilliane (DeCastro); children: Vynnessa, Tyler, Brittany and step-son Ryan; his mother, Carrie Dicks (Lawrence); sisters: Sandy Day (Alex), Dianne Anthony (Dave); good friend and neighbour Keith Van Klink and family of Ajax, ON; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who adored him. CLARKE (nee Morris), Jean Frances - Passed peacefully away at home on May 24, 2013, in her 92nd year, after a brief illness. Born in St. John's, Jean was the eldest daughter of the late Rupert and Mabel Morris (nee LeShana). Educated at United Church Schools, she worked in the Department of Posts and Telegraphs, later the Canadian Postal Service, prior to her marriage to the late Derry R. Clarke, who died in 1991. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, daughter, Roberta Clarke (Liam Petrie) of Halifax, and their daughter, Eleanor; son, William "Bill" Clarke (Dulcie), of St. John's, and their children, Justin, Ryan, and Laura; loving nieces and nephews and a large and caring extended family. In addition to her parents and her husband, Jean was predeceased by dear sisters, Florence (Harold) Morris, Mabel "Mabs" (John) Counsell, and Shirley (Bill) Squires. EMBERLEY, Kevin Lorne - Died suddenly at his home in Witless Bay on Saturday, May 11th, 2013, Kevin Emberley, aged 57 years. Predeceased by his son David, 2003, his father Walter, 1992, and mother-in-law Loretta Mullowney, 1983. FINN, P. Eng., James Joseph - Of St. John's passed peacefully away at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital in the presence of his family following a brief illness on May 11, 2013 at the age of 70. Jim was born in St. John's, the son of James and Provie Finn (Hutchings) and the brother of Gerald (deceased) and Betty. Jim was educated in St. John's and spent his formative years under the tutelage of the Irish Christian Brothers at St. Bonaventure's College. He went on to earn his civil engineering degree from Memorial University/Nova Scotia Technical College in 1964 and spent most of his career serving the citizens of St. John's as a member, and ultimately the City Engineer and Director, of the City's Engineering and Works Department. In his role as City Engineer, Jim inspired great loyalty and enjoyed great friendships amongst those with whom he worked throughout his long career. He was a man of the utmost integrity and always strove to do what was right. Jim is survived by a large circle of family and friends including his loving wife of 43 years, Lois (Barrett) and his two children: Richard (Janne) and Susan (Ken). He was also beloved granddad to two grandsons: Michael and Christopher Finn, both of Calgary, Alberta and the cherished "Uncle Jim" of Elizabeth Barrett-Nicholl (Dana) (Dieppe, N.B.) and Peter Barrett (Halifax, N.S.). Jim will be particularly missed by his sister Betty Westcott (Bill) and his sister-in-law Anne Barrett; as well as a large group of extended family and special friends. His passing is keenly felt by the closest of his lifelong friends including John Sinnott, Q.C., Professor George Casey (Ret.) and Davey Shortall as well as those with whom he delighted in sharing his "cabin" in Spaniard's Bay, especially Lorne Moores (Anne), Lynn Palmer (Larry), Verda Russell (Doug) and Ruth Palmer. Jim's family has a longstanding connection to Spaniard's Bay, and it was one of his favourite places to summer with Lois and his children. The "cabin" in Spaniard's Bay was a lifelong project for Jim and is imbued with his love for this province; it will stand as his greatest memorial. Jim's family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the medical professionals of St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, especially Dr. Hiscock and the exceptional nursing staff of 7-West, whose care and compassion is second to none and allowed Jim to pass in peace and with dignity. GRAY, Eric - Born Sept. 30, 1937, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife and daughters Saturday morning May 18, 2013 following complications from surgery. He was a professional civil engineer who designed and built roads and bridges in Newfoundland and Labrador, Scotland and Australia. He loved his family very much particularly his wife and partner whom he married Nov. 17, 1962 and was his partner for 50 years. He was a wonderful grandfather to his two grandsons. He loved to travel and enjoyed several cruises with his wife. He loved to sing and sang in choirs wherever he lived, most recently in the Chebucto Singers and in the Kilted and Senior choir of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. He also loved singing the Messiah with the Philharmonic Choir in St. John's NL. Most of all he loved to sing with his daughters. He served as an elder of the Presbyterian Church in St. Mary's Church, Dumfries, Scotland, St. David's Church, St. John's NL and St. Andrew's Church, Dartmouth, N.S. He is survived by his beloved wife, Christine, daughters Allison and Kate, son-in-law, Don and grandsons Liam and Callum, nieces Elizabeth (Colum), Sheena (Angus), Kathryn (Neil) and Joanne, nephews Jim (Jenni) and Bill (Carolyn), sister-in-law Jean, brother-in-law Alan (Helen), great nieces Rachel (Graeme), Sarah (Paul) and Deborah (Pete) and great nephew Paul (Vicky) and many close friends in all the places he lived. Happily remembered by his children: Linda (Maxwell Sweetland), Lorraine (Cyril Drodge), Velma (Ulrich Mueller), Melvin (Eva), Eileen (Ken Rollings), Allan (Denice); his eleven grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sister Grace (Marvin Baker) and a large circle of relatives and friends. Wilson worked in the field of Education, as a Teacher and Principal for 36 years. He also spent 19 years as a Teacher and Co-ordinator of the Adult Education Program from which he received an Honorary Life Membership. He was a member of the Masonic Landfall Lodge #12, Honorary Member of the Royal Canadian Legion and was Secretary of the Navy League in Catalina for 5 years. Wilson enjoyed many years working with the Catalina Library Board and his most satisfying voluntary work was the 35 years with the NL Lung Association. As per Wilson's request, cremation has taken place. There will be visitation at Strathie's Funeral Home, Catalina, on Thursday, May 16, 2013, from 10:00 a.m.- 9:00 p.m. Funeral Service to take place on Friday, May 17, 2013 at the Bethany United Church, Catalina at 12:00 noon. HEWITT Sr., Michael - It is with great sadness that the family of Michael Hewitt Sr. of Trepassey, announce his death which occurred on Friday, May 31, 2013, at St. Clare's Hospital. Born on October 14th, 1930 in Trepassey, NL, he was the son of the late Joseph Hewitt and Agnes (Sutton). Michael made many lifelong friendships during his time spent employed as a chef at St. Clare's. He liked to spend time in the woods fishing and picking berries. Somehow he always knew where there were berries and where the best places were to catch fish. Michael loved his farm animals and always had fresh eggs for sale. He was always up for a game of cards with his family. Michael will always be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

LEYTE (Copper), Arthur Wilson - Passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side at Riverview Gardens, Chatham, Ontario, on Sunday, May 19, 2013, at age 82. Copper is the beloved husband of Mary Leyte (Hannon) and son of the late Gladys and Mark Leyte. LOHENS, Wilfred Cedric - It is with sadness that the family of the late Wilfred Cedric Lohnes, 89, of East LaHave and Bridgewater announce his passing on Sunday, May 19, 2013 at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Middle LaHave, he was the son of the late Leo and Ora (Shankle) Lohnes. Wilfred was a member of St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church and served as warden. Wilfred first went to sea with the merchant marine during World War Two. After the war he returned to Middle LaHave where he married his beloved Bernis. He continued to follow the sea by serving as cook aboard several vessels, after which he went to work at the Lunenburg Fish plant from where he retired after over 25 years of service. Wilfred had a great love of cars which he shared with family and friends. He was also active with the Middle LaHave Cemetery. Wilfred was just 18 days shy of his 90th birthday, an event that he and his family were looking forward to. Wilfred is survived by his daughters Eleanor (Sam) Walters, St. John's N.L., Linda ( Brian) Hooper; Bridgewater, sisters Constance Corkum; Lunenburg, Leolyn (Harry) Walker; Centre, Gwendolyn MacLeod; Pleasantville, Arlene (Blair) Williamson; Kingston. WHITE, Herbert J. - (February 9, 1921 - May 21, 2013) - Passed suddenly away at the age of 92 years, in his own home with his family by his side. A great father and grandfather who loved to pass on many stories and words of wisdom. Leaving to mourn his sons: Patrick, Kevin (Donna), and daughter Wanda (Ken). Also left with heavy hearts, his 5 grandchildren whom he adored and who will always cherish him: Kevin, Samantha, James, Lucas and Austin. Young, aged 95 years, veteran of the Royal Navy in WWII and long-time member of the Masonic Fraternity. Predeceased by his wife, Hazel (Gosse), son Jeffrey, sisters Mabel Bellamy (Bill) and Muriel Hoddinott (Ron), brother Max (Ada), and brothers-in-law Calvin Gosse and Eugene Gosse. Leaving to mourn his daughter-in-law Patricia (Noel); grandchildren: John (Alma) and Paul (Joanna); and great-granddaughter Skylar; and many other relatives and friends.
