Leaving to mourn one brother Partick, and two sisters; Marie Bailey, Long Pond and Pauline Abbott, St. John's; special friends Lewis Knight and Bernadine; also many special cousins and very special cousin Joseph Manning, Burin. Passed away suddenly at Watertown, N.Y., Wednesday, June 16, 1999, Robert A. Abbott, age 56 years. Predeceased by his father and mother, Patrick and Lizzie and his brother Ken. Passed away suddenly at his residence in Arnold's Cove on Thursday, June 24, 1999, Reginald Berkley Clayton Barrett aged 68 years. Predeceased by her husband Maxwell (Max), sons Edward (Ted) and Robert (Bob); mother Sarah Brown and brother Ned Brown. It is with great sadness that the family of the late Nita Chambers announce her passing at the Health Sciences Centre on Monday, June 14, 1999, age 40 years. Predeceased by her father Brendan. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband David (family in Scotland and Sweden); daughter Katherine, mother Kathleen; sisters; Rose McNeil (Eric), St. Thomas, ON, Carina Jardine (Michael), Harbour Grace; brothers; Francis (MaryAnn), Toronto, ON., Clarence (Darlene), Mount Pearl; members of the Chambers family in Scotland and Sweden; and a large circle of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Nita's bravery and realism will always be remembered by family, friends, students and staff members (especially Holy Spirit High School) and all health care professionals who aided her during her illness. Peppiatt, Douglas Albert, Q.C., B.A., LLB Master in the Superior Court of Ontario, in his 60th year, at his home at 496 Castlefield Avenue, after a brief illness, which he fought with great courage. He is survived by Catherine, his wife of 46 years, and his son Doulgas James. Master Peppiatt attended Upper Canada College, University of Toronto and Osgoode Hall Law School. He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1965 and after many years of private practice was appointed a Master on October 13, 1981. Master Peppiatt was a life long member of the Anglican Church of Canada and a parishioner at the Church of the Epiphany and St. Mark. In November 1989, he was appointed a Lay Reader of the Church and in June 1992 a Vice-Chancellor. Powell, Edward Norman
Passed away at Gander June 22, 1999, of Sandy Cove, age 89. Leaving to mourn wife Nellie; son Eugene (Marjorie); daughters; Norma (Kyrl)Dollimount; Alma (Garth) Dyke; Joan (Pete) Hoyles; Patricia (Steve) Cooney; Olive, Marilyn, Kay Hillcoat, Yvonne (Terry) Noble; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Funeral took place at the United Church, Happy Adventure on June 24, 1999. Interment at United Church Cemetery.

Prince, Gerald William - of Grand Falls-Windsor. Passed peacefully away June 16, 1999 at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John's. He was 58. Predeceased by father Henry, brother Robert, sisters Eileen and Gloria. Left to mourn are wife Ivy; daughter Jennifer; son Jeff (Amanda); grandson Dlyan; Mother Blanche Prince; sisters Marina (husband Nat Barrett) of Toronto, Ont., Barbara (husband Roland Smith) of New Market, Ont. Cynthia (husband Leo Maloney) of Sweet Bay, NFLD., Mabel (husband Allan King) of Kitchener, Ont., Glenys (husband Maurice Duke) of Kitchener, Ont., Rosalind (husband Jerry Maloney) of Pickering, Ont., and also a large circle of family and  friends. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Rice and Rev. Russell at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Grand Falls-Windsor on June 19, 1999. Interment was at the Holy Trinity Anglican Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were by Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Maurice Duke, Len Durdle, Allan King, Roger Penney, Geoff Pretty and Roland Smith.

Passed away suddenly on June 29, 1999, at her home in Catalina, Nita M. Ralph, age 85 years, formerly of Flat Island, Bonavista Bay. Predeceased by her husband Reuben Ralph. REES, Betty E. - South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, N.S, 19 June 1999. Born August 9, 1922 in London, England, to Rosie and John Speedy, both deceased. She immigrated to Bell Island, NF in 1946 as a war bride, after service in the RAF during WWII. She relocated with late husband Peter (1919-1998) to Moncton, NB in 1959, returning to St. John's, NF in 1972, where she was employed first with Statistics Canada, next with the Dept. of Veteran Affairs until retirement in 1984, at which time they resettled in West Chester Village, NS. She will always be remembered for her wit, caring, kindness and understanding and leaves many wonderful friendships and memories with those whose lives she touched. Will always be remembered and sadly missed by daughters: Marylyn (Emberley), Ottawa, Synthia (Schofield), Halifax, Valentina (Oakley), Blockhouse, Roxanne, Victoria; sons: Peter, Moncton, Terry, Toronto; twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. At her request cremation has taken place. Donations to the Canadian Diabetic Association or South Shore Regional Hospital. She and her family request, in lieu of visitation, that you perform a kindness or visit someone in need. Funeral arrangements to be made by family.

RIACH, Dorothy Wordsworth - A gracious lady - died after a courageous battle with cancer, on June 3, 1999 surrounded by her family. Loved wife for 57 years of Alastair; mother of Rosalind Gray, Hilary Vavasour, Neil Riach and Alison Decker; mother-in-law of George Gray, Andy Vavasour and Carolyn Curren; grandmother of Sarah and Stuart, Claire and Peter, Tristan, Rachel and Kathryn; treasured friend to many. Very special thanks to Dr. Catherine Popaduik and all who took care of Dorothy. A service will be held for family and close friends at their home in Avondale on Saturday, June 5th at 4 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at a later date. Passed away suddenly on June 28, 1999 at her home in Little Heart's Ease, Mrs. Victoria Spurrell (nee Jacobs), age 87 years 11 months. Predeceased by husband Richard (1983); brothers; Harvey and Gordon; son-in-law Arthur; and great-grandchild Jonathan. Left with fond and loving memories her husband, Alfred, of 16 years; their children; Nicole, Crystal and Jeremy; her parents Nellie and Dennis Pinsent; sisters; Elizabeth, Rosalyn, Kathleen, Lorraine, Denise, Cynthia; and brother Gerald; mother-in-law Shirley; father-in-law Charles; sisters-in-law; Twlia, Trudy and Pam; brother-in-law Baxter; and her special friends Sharon, Jackie and Maxine; and numerous relatives and friends. Whitty, in his 72nd year. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 48 years, Cecilla (nee Slaney); sons; Ted (Diane); Bill (Marie); Andrew (Kelly) and Gerry (Rhonda); daughters; Linda Summers (Brian); Jill Keefe (Ron) and Kim Robinson (Kevin); 15 beloved grandchildren; sister Doreen Newell and family; other relatives and many special friends.
