It is with great heartbreak that the family of Ed Bailey announce his peaceful passing after a lengthy illness on June 15, 2021, aged 81, at home surrounded by his family and wife of 57 years Dorothy (nee Lavigne). Ed and Dorothy met at the Catholic Youth Club on Harvey Rd, next to the old Paramount Theater, in 1962. Ed was a kind, gentle man, devoted husband, father, and poppy. He cherished spending time with his family and grandchildren. Ed was known in the softball community as a great "right fielder". We would like to thank his teammates in the softball and hockey leagues in St. John's and Mount Pearl, the St. John's Seniors Softball League, and the Canada Post Hockey League. Ed was a dedicated volunteer hockey referee and softball umpire in St. John's and Mount Pearl, as well as a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Wings in Pleasantville. He freely gave his time to volunteer for various charitable organizations, including CUPW and the Alzheimer Society of Newfoundland and Labrador St. John's Chapter. Leaving to mourn sisters Elizabeth Ann and husband Dave Antle, Terry and partner Betty Smith, along with many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his three wonderful children Ian, Guy, and Nadine and daughter-in-law Dawn (nee McCormick) and son-in-law Geoff Clarke. Also, by his three grandchildren who adored him, Alexa Bailey, Matthew and Jack Clarke, all were Poppy's pride and joy! With great appreciation and heartfelt thanks to Dr. Roger Butler and nurse practitioner Treena Tricco and all the staff with the Dementia Program at the Miller Center. Many thanks to the visiting Eastern Health homecare on-call nurses, Vivian Ryan and Jeremy Newman and the occupational therapist Carolyne Chong. GREEN, Roberta "Bobbie" Agnes, Nee Parsons
Published: July 08, 2021
Feb 7, 1940 - June 28, 2021

Bobbie will be remembered fondly as the kindest Mom, sister, grandmother and friend that we could ever hope for. She loved her family and friends dearly and always had a smile, an empathetic ear and a shoulder to cry on when needed. An active member of the congregation at the Anglican Cathedral, her faith was strong and she drew so much joy from her many friendships and activities at church which included many years of Sunday School teaching, helping out at the Tea Room and as a member of the Altar Guild. Bobbie also loved a good time - whether it be at card games, family get-togethers, travels abroad with friends and family, summers spent in Happy Adventure, church functions, or when racking up a high score at bowling. She was also a life-long watcher of Coronation Street, a lover of cats and word puzzles, and an avid Habs fan (whose playoff success gave her a much-needed "spark" during her illness). She loved Christmas time most of all (so many decorations and cookies!), when her family and friends could come and be together with her. For Bobbie, her greatest love and joy was on display when visiting with her three grandchildren in Ottawa (Timothy, Douglas and Lucie), whom she absolutely adored. In turn, they deeply loved their "Grandma Green" and will miss her dearly. Bobbie was predeceased by her husband Winston, mother Pearl and father Hector. Left to mourn and celebrate her life are her children Jennifer (Paul), Geoff (Katherine) and David, sisters Minnie (Lloyd, deceased), Shirley (Jim), Marina (Herbert, deceased), Patricia (David), Carol (David, deceased), brother Winston (Kay) and grandchildren Timothy, Douglas and Lucie. She was predeceased by sisters Lorraine, Theresa and brother Hector. Ready to be reunited with Dad again, Mom passed away peacefully at her home of 52 years after a brief illness. We were extremely lucky to have our dear Mom in our lives for her 81 years, and grateful for the joyful memories of her that we will always have. She will be forever in our hearts. Friends and family are invited to pay respects and celebrate her life at a visitation to be held at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road on July 9th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Bobbie's funeral will be held at the Anglican Cathedral of St. John the Baptist on Saturday, July 10th, 2021 at 2:00p.m., with interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery on Kenmount Road.In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation are appreciated.

HILLIARD, Harvey
Published: June 26, 2021

Passed peacefully away on 25 June 2021 surrounded by family including Eva, his loving wife of 67 years. Some people are so good that they should live forever. R. W. Harvey Hilliard lived to celebrate his 95th birthday, and all who love him are better for it. Born in 1926, before Newfoundland joined Canada, Harvey was a proud Newfoundlander. He was raised in Petries, now a part of Corner Brook, as the youngest of seven children. He is predeceased by his parents Martin and Alfreda Hilliard, his siblings, and many dear friends and relatives. He is survived by Eva, their children Gail (Paul Hamilton) and Paul (Sherry), grandchildren Julia Hamilton (Tom Tyson), Alan Hamilton, Trent Hilliard (Ainsley), and Tanya Hilliard (Todd), great-grandchildren Naomi Tyson and Aidan Hamilton, favourite bridge opponents Charles and Clarissa, and many beloved friends and relatives. Harvey was a doer. To say he had a strong work ethic is a massive understatement. From the evenings studying alongside his children at the dining room table to the weeks renovating the basement, Harvey was never idle. He kept busy in the garden growing vegetables for the family to eat at Sunday dinner or making an ice surface for his grandkids to skate on as the seasons permitted. Never one to sit around, Harvey would be painting the swing or chopping down the Christmas tree or smoking a salmon or taking his adorable dog Abby for a walk. When he did take a break, it was to hike a few hours to his favourite fishing spot. His family all shared in various fishing expeditions through the years - some more successful than others! Harvey had a sweet tooth… this is just one of the reasons he and Eva were perfect for each other as he was the biggest fan of every cake and cookie she baked. He was fast to make friends, he valued family highly, and he was a better storyteller than all of us combined. He was a member of the Corner Brook Masonic Lodge and prized his 60 year pin. Harvey leaves us with endless happy memories and many lessons on how to fish, build, plant, and harvest; perhaps most treasured are the lessons on how to live to the fullest. Sincere thanks to Dr. Peter Seviour for his care over the years and to the Tiffany Village doctor, Dr. Penton, nurses, and staff for their exceptional care in recent times. Flowers are respectfully declined; donations to St. James United Church, the Community Food Sharing Association, or a charity of your choice are welcomed. Visitation will take place at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, from 4-6 pm on 27 June 2021. A memorial service and celebration of his life will take place at the Carnell Memorial Chapel on 28 June 2021 at 11:00am. Registration will be required due to Covid restrictions. To attend, please email Gail Hamilton at gmgailhamilton@gmail.com   The service will be live-streamed for those who are unable to attend. Please visit www.carnells.com for the live-streaming link, or to leave a message of condolence for the family.

'Tom', 'Dad', 'Poppy' was born on 24 February 1939 in Red Head Cove, NF and died suddenly of Cardiac Arrest on 18 June 2021 in Pembroke, Ontario with his immediate family by his side. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Cynthia Ann (nee Tucker) of St. Jones Within, NF, his two children son, Thomas Andrew Hogan and daughter, Elana Ann Graham CD, PEng. Son-in-law Brigadier General Steve Graham, MSM, CD, three grandchildren Hogan Geoffrey, Corey Patrick, & Thomas "Tommy" Edward and his sister Shirley Ann Hogan Stephenville, NF and in-laws, Norma Vey, Mary Bentley, Janet Tucker, Silas and Patricia Tucker and a large number of nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father Patrick, mother Annie-May (Rice), brother Andrew, sisters-in-law Gladys Mechura, Geneva Tucker, Marion Tucker and brothers-in-law Jack Tucker, David Tucker and Oliver Tucker, and Everett Vey. Tom spent his younger years working with his father in the NF fishery but shortly after graduating from St. Bon's High School in St. John's, he applied for a position as a field mechanic at the Iron Ore Company of Canada in Labrador City, Labrador in 1959. It was there he met Cynthia and they started a life together raising a family and enjoying many outdoor activities such as skiing, skidooing, camping and fishing. He left his position at IOC in 1985 after accepting an offer with Exxon and moved the family to Barranquilla, Colombia. Tom could fix anything and his work took him all over the world including Guyana, Uruguay, Venezuela, Nova Scotia, India, and The North West Territories to name a few. He loved meeting people and experiencing new cultures but was always very clear whenever he was asked if he was born in Canada, his answer was always - "No, I was born in Newfoundland". Twenty years ago Tom was very fortunate to have been given a second chance at life following successful, quadruple bypass heart surgery. He was grateful for every minute and lived his life to the fullest. His last evening was spent with his loving wife, children, and all his grandchildren on the shores of the Ottawa River, near the water, staying up to midnight to watch his Montreal Canadians win in overtime. We are forever grateful we could all be together one last time. Due to the Attendance Restrictions of COVID 19 a Private Family Funeral will be held at the MURPHY FUNERAL HOME, 296 Isabella Street, Pembroke on Thursday afternoon. Final Interment in Newfoundland. To honour Thomas' memory a donation to the Ottawa Heart Institute would be appreciated by the family. THE FUNERAL WILL BE LIVE STREAMED AT 2:00 PM ON THURSDAY JUNE 24. LAWLOR, Helen Margaret
Published: June 19, 2021
Feb 25, 1946 - June 17, 2021

It is with broken hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Lawlor, RN. With her family and dedicated loving friend Sylvia Healey by her side Helen passed peacefully away undoubtedly feeling the love and respect she truly deserved. Helen is predeceased by her parents Richard and Catherine, and many other close uncles and aunts in both the Lawlor and Roche families. Helen will be leaving to mourn her brother Loyola, sister-in-law Tina, lifelong companion Oscar Payne, aunt - Millie Lawlor (Frank deceased), cousins Mark Lawlor and family (Patricia, Natasha and Maria), Jeanette Lawlor and family (Shaun and Rogan Betts). She will also be dearly missed by her Renews southside family especially, Mame (Mary Lawlor) and all her Lawlor and Roche cousins and friends across and up the lane. Helen grew up in Renews and was always proud of her Southern Shore roots. There was never a "time" or occasion in Renews that she missed. If she could possibly attend at all, she was there. Helen graduated from St. Claire's School of Nursing in 1967, respected and admired by the whole class. Without a doubt she was the glue that held the class together and continued to do so. After graduation Helen spent the next couple of years at Clare's but with a yearning to further her career, she went on to complete her Public Health Diploma, BScN and a MHSc. Helen's name and Public Health nursing are synonymous in our province. Her career path traversed NL, both at the community and Department of Health level. She worked in many areas and communities, but it was the great Northern Peninsula that claimed her as their own. While she officially retired in 2001, it can never be said that she retired from nursing completely - that was NOT Helen. Helen was a woman of immense strength, intelligence, dedication and wonderful dry sense of humor. These qualities guided her each and every day. For those whose lives Helen has touched, she will have left an indelible mark. Every day of Helen's life was focused around others. She opened her heart and her home to any and all who needed her support, guidance and advocacy. Nothing was too much for Helen to take on and she was not one to back down from anything or anyone. We, her family, cannot imagine life without her in our lives. We hope a little bit of Helen lives on in all of us - but there will never be another Helen. The family would like to thank all those who provided support and care to Helen during her short illness, including the staff of both St. Claire's and HSC. We are especially grateful for Sylvia's unwavering love and support and for being there for Helen, always by her side right to the end. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Saturday, June 19, 2021 from 2-9 p.m. and at Fahey's Funeral Home, Fermeuse, on Sunday, June 20, 2021 from 2-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial from Holy Apostle's Church, Renews, on Monday, June 21, 2021 at 11 a.m. Wake and funeral service as per COVID-19 protocols. Cremation to follow. Donations may be made in Helen's memory to the Renews - Cappahayden Church and Grotto. Address: RCCPP, Po Box 59, Renews, NL, A0A 3N0.

MAJOR, William Gerald

As I write this I can't help but feel my heart breaking in a million tiny little fragments; and each of these fragments breaking again. For over 30 years I have loved this man. He was more than my husband, he was my friend, my lover, my partner, my biggest challenge, my greatest accomplishment, my life, my world, my absolute everything! Even through our challenges, no matter how difficult things became he stayed the course, and focused on the most important thing in his life-his family. Making us work, being sure that our boys were happy, and that we were taken care of. He knew our life together was the best way to end his story and that the five of us worked best together. He made sacrifices, but he never saw the sacrifices - he saw his duty - we were his number one priority. Anyone who knew Bill, knew him as a man of virtue, integrity, honour, respect, kindness, pride, and absolute goodness. Bill loved his job, his friends, his renovations, his Habs, his country music, Newfoundland, fishing and hunting. He was a simple and humble man. He was true to himself and he was happy. Bill was, and always will be a man of character. If you worked with Bill you knew his word was golden and his handshake counted for something, for everything! On June 1, Bill's job on this earth was done. His final nail was driven, his final tire change completed, his final bead of caulking inserted, and his last ATV ride in the town he loved, with his fantastic friends, came to an end. Proudly, his final Gilliam's project - Waypoint was delivered. He attended his last hockey, baseball, football, soccer, and whatever other activities the boys got themselves into. On June 1st Bill proudly laid his accordion to rest, and his music stopped, forever. Bill's love and legacy will continue with his family. On June 1st he left behind me, his partner in crime for 30 years - Malvina. His best buddies and his proudest accomplishments; his 3 sons, William Jr., James and Tyson. Also broken hearted is his loving Mom, Brenda & Father, Gerald - he admired his parents beyond words. He leaves his beautiful sisters Stephanie (Jon and Olivia), Cathy and his Grandmother Margaret, his Mother in law Blanch (Kevin), his extended family Myrna, Corbin, Barry, Marilyn, and their families. He also has his lifelong friend Corey. And so many others. Visitors will be received at Drury Funeral Centre in Alliston, ON on Sunday June 6th, Bill will be laid to rest on June 7th at St. David's Church In Everett, ON. Bill's family is asking that you make a donation to the Canadian Tire Jumpstart Program so every kid has a chance to Bar Down! Passed peacefully away at his home in St. John's on Friday June 11, 2021 after a long and courageous battle with cancer, James Samuel (Sam) McNeish, aged 56 years. Predeceased by his parents Cheryl and James McNeish, his uncle Ronnie Rayworth and his sister Margaret Weatherbee. Leaving to mourn his partner Margie McDonald, his sister Betty Jo (Fred Embree) of Fenwick N.S., nieces and nephews Stephanie and Greg Weatherbee and Jenna and Bailey Embree, in-laws Patrick McDonald, Maureen Durdle, Helen McDonald and Chris Regular, Mary and Paul Rickert, Stephen Weatherbee and many other relatives. Sam was a great friend to many and had many great friends. He is fondly remembered and missed by his wide circle of close and long-time friends in Amherst, St. John's, throughout the Maritimes and across the country. There are way too many to mention by name but include Darren and Kelly Nixon, Kevin and Jocelyn Devine, Carole Blenkhorn and Owen Hayes, Chuck Linney, Charlie Chambers, Robbie Rolf, Reggie and Karen Caulfield, Jamey Jennings and Joanne Dodd and Dave and Diane Hicks. He leaves many other friends and acquaintances including his Telegram colleagues and his basketball official friends across the country. Sam worked as a newspaper reporter and later as an editor for over 30 years both in Amherst N.S and at the Telegram after a move to St. Johns in 2007. As was obvious to all who knew him, sports were a huge part of Sam's life. He spent many rewarding years as a sports reporter in Amherst. He loved the game of basketball as a fan, a player, a coach and as an official. He was just as happy refereeing junior high games as those he did for MUN Basketball and the St. John's Edge. He had a passion for mentoring young players and officials. But his love of sports as a player and a fan did not stop there. He played and umpired softball in Nova Scotia for many years and later developed a great love for golf. He was a loyal and long-time fan of the Seattle Seahawks, the Montreal Canadiens, the Chicago Cubs, the Syracuse Orange and LA Lakers. He was a great NASCAR enthusiast and Mark Martin fan. He really enjoyed his stint as an announcer for the Eastbound Speedway in Avondale. Thank you to the many doctors and nurses who took care of Sam throughout his illness including Community Health Nurse Sharon Nurse and Dr. Dawn Armstrong. A special thank you to personal care attendant, Ben Theriault, whose exceptional care in the last days of Sam's life was truly a blessing. As per Sam's request, cremation has occurred and no visitation or service will take place. Donations in his name can be made to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada and the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Center. To send a message of condolence please visit www.carnells.com

Passed peacefully away at home Sunday June 13, 2021, the way he wanted, surrounded by his loving family, Gordon Moulton (Ret. Purser, Marine Atlantic), at 81 years of age. Leaving with fond memories, his loving and devoted wife of almost 58 years, Joan (Spurrell), his daughters Kelly (Stephen) Blackwood and Jo-Ann (Doug) Day. Also leaving to mourn nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to mention. Gordon was born in Burgeo, NL and was very proud of his roots. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy at the young age of 17 and proudly served for 10 years, with an Honourable Discharge. He continued his career at sea, working for Marine Atlantic for the next 30 years. After retirement, he and Mom (the Saint!) spent most of their winters in Florida and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Throughout the year, they would often just pick up and go. They would load the car (egg sandwiches made for the trip) and head out on another adventure. Anyone who knew Dad was very aware of his passion for the Masonic Lodge. He was an active member for 48 years of Neptune Lodge (Mother Lodge), as well as Lodge NL Kilwinning (Distinguished Member), Lodge Conception, Honourary member of Lodge Tasker and Lodge St. Andrew. At the time of his passing, he was reigning Worshipful Master of Farnham Lodge of Research. He was a member of the Mazol Shriners and the Royal Order of Scotland. In 2012, he started the Masonic Coffee Club, providing his fellow brethren with an opportunity to get together on a weekly basis. Gordon was very affectionately known as the "Accordion Man". He gave countless hours of musical enjoyment to young and old alike. He was a great storyteller and always held a captive audience. Special thank you to Sharon Nurse RN, Dr. L. Rodgers, Dr. T. MURPHY, Alban Joseph
Published: June 05, 2021
May 11, 1935 - June 1, 2021

Alban peacefully reached his last train stop at home in Harbour Main on June 1, 2021, at 86 years of age. Leaving to mourn this loss are Mary, his wife of 63 years; his children Maria (Fred) Woodford, Joe (Catherine), Paul (Shirley), Rosalie (Richard) Healey, Gerri, James, and Georgina (Rod) Bursey; his beloved grandchildren Alicia, Lori, Michael, Ryan, Kristina, Suzannah, Victoria, Stephen, Sarah, Nathan, Mitchell, Gillian, Maggie and Lucas; and great-grandchildren Joseph, Jack, Ella, Maya, Noah, Bridget and Leland; brother Tom (Phyllis); his Gushue family, nieces, nephews, and many treasured family and friends. He was the son of the late James and Anne Murphy (Duff) and is predeceased by his sisters Genevieve March (Marty), Bernadine (Bun) Bell (George), Mary Furstenburg (Joe), Sheila Garrett (Don), Pauline Kennedy (Ned), Gerry Kuhn (Bernie), and Vera Joy (Pat). Alban was a true family man, and he enjoyed the love of many "families" throughout his lifetime. He and Mary raised seven children together, so meal times in particular have always been interesting events! He was so proud of each of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved to share stories of their visits, adventures and accomplishments to just about anyone who would listen. His second family was his co-workers at CN Railway where he worked for 35 years. He frequently told stories about the people with whom he worked and could recite details such as their family's names, where they lived, who their parents were, and of course, the family connections between them. He was never stumped when we'd share that one of our friends had a parent or relative who worked with the Railway, and he loved to make the connections with a story or two. He and Mary enjoyed adventures with the CN Pensioners Group, and just a few months ago, thoroughly enjoyed a surprise telephone call from one of his past colleagues. It was one of those conversations where no matter the number of years in between, they just picked up where they left off. He also cherished his Harbour Main and Sts. Peter and Paul Parish family and worked for many years as Chair of the Cemetery Committee. Together, the Committee created a beautiful resting place overlooking the ocean. Alban's faith and participation in the Church and community were very important to him, and certainly impacted how he chose to live his life. A special thanks to George Dalton for his visits over the years to keep Dad updated on changes to the cemetery records - he so loved your conversations. Alban was someone who connected with people wherever he went and loved a good joke or bit of fun. Following retirement, he and Mary thoroughly enjoyed several winters in Florida, which was surprising at first because he loved to be home! We discovered the reason was the family they created at Starlight Towers which included the new friends he and Mary made "from away", and the many people from "home"  they probably saw more often when they were there. He loved his shuffleboard, and Friday evenings going to Woody's for Happy Hour and then for Chinese food. Much like their family at home, they enjoyed the support and company of their Florida family. At home in recent years, Alban enjoyed his years of playing cards with his Conception Harbour family; a nightly ritual of watching Murder She Wrote and Jeopardy; and celebrating the many birthdays and special events that come from having a large family. He and Mary often joined their children on day and weekend travels which took in some beautiful Newfoundland scenery and prompted a few stories of past family vacations and railway stories. He also loved when these travels happened to include a visit to a local brewery where he could have a beer, a bite to eat, and of course, a chat! A special thank you to Dr. Russ Lake for his many years of dedicated medical care, and Carol Ann and the staff at The Dispensary Ltd. Visitation will be in keeping with COVID-19 Regulations and will take place at Dunphy's Funeral Home, Holyrood, on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. The funeral service will be by invitation only due to COVID-19 restrictions. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Harbour Main on Thursday, June 3 at 10:30 am with cremation to follow. For those unable to attend, the funeral mass will be live-streamed with the link available at https://tom0349.wixsite.com/streamingservices or www.dunphys.ca  Given COVID restrictions, interment will take place at a later date when family are able to travel home. In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted to the Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery or Parish funds, the Railway Coastal Museum, or a charity of your choice. Funeral Arrangements entrusted to Dunphy's Funeral Home. Please visit www.dunphys.ca to sign the memorial guest book.

MURPHY, George Walter

1963 - 2021

It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of George Walter Murphy on June 5 at the age of 58. Predeceased by his parents V. Gloria Fifield and Lewis Murphy, mother-in-law Josephine McGrath and father-in-law Mike McGrath. Leaving to mourn his wife of 12 years, Joy (McGrath), sons Aaron and Lewis, daughters Bailey and Krista, stepsons Devin (Shania) and Daniel (Megan), grandsons Jack and Kolton, and stepmother Ann. George will also be remembered by his brothers Lewis (Kay), Brian (Vasuki), Dan (Mi-Kyung), Noel (Nancy), and Kent (Faith), sister Mackenzie (Roger), brothers-in-law Nick (Pam), Mike (Ann-Marie), sister-in-law Michelle (Paul), and his very special brother-in-law Walter, along with a large circle of family and friends. George loved serving the people of Newfoundland & Labrador. In his youth, he was President of C.B.A.C., a former Citizens Band Radio Club with hundreds of members. He was an organizer for the Pumpkin Patrol, organized toy drives for children at Christmastime, and was involved in numerous community-based organizations. In the pre-Social Media era, George harnessed the potential of the internet (at the time) seeking signatures province-wide for the 2nd largest petition ever tabled in the House of Assembly for official reading. He was well known for advocacy with the Consumer Group for Fair Gas Prices, he also served as M.H.A. for St. John's East from 2011-2015 as well as acting manager for Jiffy Cabs. Recently, he worked for the Liberal Government and spoke fondly of all members. What made George stand out from many other politicians was his love and devotion of all classes of individuals equally. No matter who he met, he would take a keen interest in that person's life and would develop a friendship with them. He was well known for helping people - from providing food to medical equipment and always listening to their needs. He was the driving force behind the rebate from Newfoundland Power to the residents of NL as well as a major advocate of the "pull over" law. He had a great passion for C.B. Radio. He collected and refurbished many rare breeds of radio from far and wide. He loved spending time with family and friends, playing guitar around a firepit and parodying songs which were sure to get a laugh. He loved spending hours by the side of the pond fishing with his sons and making memories with them. George lived a full and purposeful life. He was a gentle giant with an equally big heart who will be missed by all who have had the pleasure of knowing him even for a moment of time. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Thursday, June 10 and Friday, June 11 from 2-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held from the Carnell Memorial Chapel on Saturday, June 12 at 11 a.m. Due to limited numbers and following COVID regulations, attendance at the funeral service will be invite only. It is with much sadness and grief, but a lifetime of warm memories, that daughter Kimberly Bruce (David) and son Kurt Osborne (Lynn) share this difficult news. Mom passed away peacefully, surrounded by family in her 77th year on June 10, 2021 after a brave battle with lung cancer. Mom was a devoted Nana to Mikayla and Kieran and was predeceased by our Dad, Edward Osborne, and her brother Hubert Thornhill. Anita was the daughter of Ambrose and Emily (Hillier) Thornhill of Grand Bank. Amongst those mourning with us is Ed Moss, her husband of over 4 years, her sister Bernice (Glynn) Bartlett and her sister-in-law Leona Thornhill, widow of Mom's brother Bert. Mom was a modest, one-of-a-kind lady, whose passions besides family and friends included gardening, poetry, golf, walking the beaches in Florida, nature & nature photography. Her poetry was published and she won awards for many of these hobbies. To say Mom was a go-getter who barely slowed down would be a tremendous understatement. She will be greatly missed. A private family funeral will take place. It is with deep sadness that the children of Sandra Osmond (nee Macfarlane) share the news of her passing. Sandra is predeceased by her husband Gerry, and her parents Alex and Florence Macfarlane. Sandra recently welcomed her first great-grandchild, Parker Elizabeth Reid, into the world with delight. Throughout her life, Sandra enjoyed a large circle of deep and enduring friendships from her school days at Prince of Wales Collegiate and her dedicated service to Bethesda Pentecostal Church. Sandra grew up in the iconic Four Sisters houses on Temperance Street and spent her holidays at the "summer home" on Neary's Pond. After a very brief career in the Steers' advertising department, Sandra married Gerry Osmond and stepped into the role of World's Best Mom, and later World's Best Nanny. Her home was always filled with bible study groups, youth group socials, parties, and individuals needing a cup of tea and a kind word. Sandra's creativity shone through her volunteer activities with religious and community organizations such as the Children's Wish Foundation. Throughout her life, Sandra made the world a more beautiful place through her limitless kindness, generosity, and sense of humour (not to mention her impeccable fashion sense and lipstick). She was God's love in action. A special thank you to her sister-in-Law Frances Osmond, who made it possible for Mom to remain in her home as her memory failed, and to the medical professionals who ensured she had a peaceful passing. Visitation at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road from 2:00 to 4:00, and 7:00 to 9:00 on Friday, June 25th. O'TOOLE, Edward Patrick
Published: June 26, 2021
December 6, 1939 - June 23, 2021

It is with heavy hearts we let go of a dear husband, father, poppy and great grand poppy - Edward O'Toole of St. John's passed away peacefully after a brief stay at the Palliative Care Unit following a courageous battle with cancer. He is predeceased by his beloved daughter Debbie O'Toole, parents Ronald and Margaret O'Toole, brothers Ronald and Douglas, sisters Marie and Patricia, nephew Greg Osmond and son-in-law Jerry Walsh. Leaving to mourn Patricia, his loving wife of 60 years; 3 children: Terri Walsh, Ed II (Krista), Sean (Joanne); 4 grandchildren: Ashley (Jon), Jennesa (Tony), Samantha (Brandon) and Eddy III; and 3 great-grandchildren: Kyla, Caleb and Kenah; 2 sisters: Bernice (Sid) and Peggy (Ron) and a large circle of family and friends. Edward was famously known to be as hardworking one could be, and then some. Throughout his life he dedicated himself to many passions, and his ever-present enthusiasm for life was infectious. His spirit and devotion to Newfoundland were so notable they won him recognition as a tourism ambassador. Most of his working years were spent maintaining the Fort William Building for the Newfoundland Telephone Company. There, he greeted everyone who crossed his path with a friendly face and formed lasting friendships with many of his colleagues. In his retirement, he built a beautiful summer home for his wife and family in Holyrood, the town which was the setting for his fondest childhood memories. When in the city, his presence was often known by the display of Christmas lights that decorated the outside of his home and the entirety of a 3-storey maple tree. Our Edward, who was always ready to lend a hand, who loved to dance, to be outdoors, to read and share history, blessed us with the brightest of memories that will inspire and guide us until we meet again someday. Thank you to Paramedics Providing Palliative Care, PC Unit, and Health and Community Services who dedicated themselves to make Edward's final days as comfortable as possible. As per Dad's request, cremation has taken place. Visitation from Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Sunday, June 27, 2021 from 12 noon - 8 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, June 28, 2021 at 10 a.m. from St. Patrick's Church. As Debbie, his beloved daughter passed earlier this year during lockdown, we welcome visitors at Caul's and St. Patrick's Church, for both Dad and Debbie. Inurnment for Dad and Debbie will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Columbarium. Flowers accepted, or donations may be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation or to the Daffodil Place.
