He moved to Gander in the late 1940's at the start of a new era in aviation. He was an early pioneer of air traffic control as the Gander airport assumed its leading role in trans-oceanic flight. His career provided him with much delight through various postings for the federal Ministry of Transportation. He enjoyed time in Washington DC in the late 1970's as liaison officer for the Canadian Government to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Retirement was not for him as he then assumed the position of President and CEO of the Canadian Business Aircraft Association (CBAA) in the private sector of aviation. He served as the International Liaison Officer to the International Business Aviation Council (IBAC) and in June of 1991 was appointed to The Order of the Silk Scarf as a member of the elite fellowship of aviation. After a second retirement, he continued in several consulting and advisory roles to various sectors of the aviation realm. An avid gardener, in retirement, he created showcase landscapes on an annual basis. A proud Newfoundlander through and through, he loved his heritage and shared his love for all things Newfoundland with all those he came in contact and would lend him an ear. COOK June (Howse) Passed peacefully away at the Glenbrook Lodge, St John's on June 9, 2020 June Roberta Cook in her 98th year. She was born on July 5, 1922 to Gus and Daisy Howse in St John's, Nfld. June was predeceased by her loving husband Max (1994), only sibling Keith Howse (1966) (Hattie); brothers-in-law Tasker Cook (Ruby, Cavell), Angus Cook (Joan), Avalon Frampton; sisters-in-law Phyllis Walsh (Don), Rita Symonds (Art), and daughter-in-law Lucille Cook (Jeff). Left with many loving memories, sons Gary (Rosalind) and Jeff (Deborah); daughters Jocelyn Laskey (Steven), Lois Bourne, and Deanne Cook (Barry); daughter-in-law Barbara Sparkes; grandchildren Jennifer Daly (Jason), Matthew Cook, Karen Blandford, Melanie Cook (Chris), Mandy Symonds (Richard), Corey Bourne (Tina), Stephen Blandford, Craig Bourne (Sandra), Leigh Chalker, and Chad Cranford/Cook; great-grandchildren Maxwell, Abbigail, Alyssa, Joshua, Kristen, Cameron, Hannah, Ryan, Penney, Scarlett; niece Jacqueline Howse, nephew Roger Howse, and sister-in-law Douglass Frampton along with numerous nieces and nephews on the Cook side of the family. Mom, Grandma, June or Junie (as she was often called by husband, Max) lived life to the fullest. She was very open-minded and, in many ways, "ahead of her time". Whether it be family, friends or relatives from near or far, her door on Simms Street was open to everyone, always with an extra chair at the dining room table and or a bed for the night. June always had a warm smile, loving heart, and infectious kindness for everyone. Her family meant everything to her, and she loved to see them visit especially for family celebrations or for hot soup after a Santa Claus parade on a cold Saturday morning. June had an amazing memory, especially for birthdays and anniversaries. In fact, she knew and remembered more about the Cook family than her husband Max. In her retirement years June spent her spare time completing the daily crossword puzzle in the Telegram, playing bridge with neighbours and friends, and of course watching the daily episode of "The Young and the Restless". In her younger years June was a volunteer with the Boy Scouts Ladies Auxiliary and gave some 50 years calling donors for the Canadian Red Cross Blood Collection Services. June spent the last six-plus years at the Glenbrook Lodge in St John's and her family would like to thank the staff for their exceptional care and attention to mom during this time. Like her husband Max, June had requested that her body be donated to science, however it was not possible at this time. Therefore, her remains have been entrusted to Carnell's Funeral Home in St. John's for cremation. Due to the current pandemic there will be no visitation. At a future date, a committal service officiated by her son-in-law Rev. Steven Laskey will be held and June will be laid to rest beside her beloved Max at the Anglican Cemetery on Forest Rd in St John's, NL. In her memory June requested that donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Nfld & Labrador Chapter in aid of children who must travel to St John's for treatment. June will be greatly missed by all who knew her!

CRANE Evelyn Joyce It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Evelyn Joyce Crane on June 18, 2020 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Evelyn's legacy is grounded in Faith, Family and Friends. She dedicated her life to her family, she will be eternally remembered for providing a loving home, sound advice and support for her family. Evelyn's unconditional love for her husband, children and grandchildren was evident in everything she did. She would often recall fond memories from family vacations and get-togethers from the past; always looking forward to the next time we could be together as a family. Evelyn was a significant contributor to the church throughout her entire life. She spent countless hours volunteering to support the church; singing in the church choir, organizing and participating in church auctions and fundraisers. Even more significant was her unwavering faith through all of life's trials and challenges. A faith which she ensured was part of every aspect of our family. It is this faith which carried Evelyn home to our Lord in heaven and this is of great comfort to the Crane family.

CURRAN ELINOR ANNE
Elinor Anne Curran (nee Cole) of Hanover, passed away at the age of 82 in her characteristic forthright style and manner at Hanover and District Hospital, on Thursday, May 14, 2020. Forever loved and missed by the love of her life, best friend and dancing partner, husband James "Jim" Curran of Hanover ON. Left with memories of love and laughter, her son Andrew (Christine) of Guelph and her daughter Heather of Kitchener; grandchildren Patrick (Jenna), Kathleen and Matthew; beloved brother Robert (Bob) Cole of St. John's; and sister in law Maureen Wilson of Hanover. Her extensive family of "wee ones," nieces and nephews, remember her in appreciation for how she remained in touch and kept the memory of their parents alive with her funny stories: Robert, Diane, Anita, Marina, Peter, Janet, Bob, Jill, Christian, Hilary, Megan, Robbie. Many more great nieces and nephews and their children will remember Auntie Elinor as one who knit fabulous blankets, sweaters and hats with love. Predeceased by her parents, John "Jack" and Florence (Voisey) Cole; brothers Cecil, Kitchener & Edgar Wiseman (Betty); and sisters Helen Noseworthy (Bill), Louise "Lulu" Ringman (Ed); and Olive Andrews (Cliff) of St. John's NL. Born in St. John's NL on March 4, 1938, Elinor grew up on Quidi Vidi Road and worked with CIBC on Water Street. She met Jim in 1958 and they married on Dec 31, 1960 at the Basilica of St. John the Baptist. Elinor and Jim were just shy of celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. Following his work with Marconi and Company, they moved to and started a family in Montreal, eventually settling in Hanover in 1972 where Jim worked with Telesat Canada until his retirement. Elinor worked at the Royal Bank there and is fondly remembered by the many customers she served. They built a life of happy memories both in Hanover and at their winter home in Country Park, Clearwater FL. All those she encountered knew her as a kind, generous and hospitable soul; spirited and joyful; embracing humour at the best and worst of times; and industriously interested in all that life had to offer. She was quick to offer a pot of soup or home-baked goods to friends and neighbours in need or simply as a token of her friendship. And, she would NEVER go past the Salvation Army Kettles without making a donation. This is the legacy of Elinor. To honour her wishes, there is no visitation or service; cremation has occurred and her remains will be returned to St. John's where a family celebration of life will occur. Please visit www.mightonfuneralhome.ca to leave messages of condolence and share stories to celebrate her life.

DOLLARD BRENT It is with great sadness and the heaviest of hearts that the Dollard family announce the sudden passing of Brent Dollard. Brent, age 56, passed away after a short illness on June 19, 2020, surrounded by loving family members. Brent was born in Stephenville, NL on October 28, 1963 to Ignatius Dollard and Edna (Doucette), both deceased. After graduating high school, Brent moved to Toronto to become an electrical engineer. After working in Toronto for many years he moved to Halifax to start up the Atlantic Canada Branch of the international company, Omron. He remained with Omron until they moved their head office to the US and closed out the Canadian distributors. He then started Hitek Marketing, Inc. Brent lived and worked in Halifax for the last 32 years but his heart was in Newfoundland & Labrador where he would return many times a year to visit friends and family, golf, and go snowmobiling with his brother, Terry. His love of lobster and scallops was legendary and he made a mean seafood chowder. Brent only had to walk into a room and his smile and laugh became contagious. There was no sitting around a table without laughter. His gentle and loving spirit and great sense of humour are what has endeared him to all who knew and loved him. There are no words to describe how his presence will be missed on this earth. He was cherished by many. Father to Cindy and "great hockey Dad" to Matthew; grandfather to two beautiful granddaughters, Debra and Kassidy; and fiancé to Wanda Dixon; loving brother to Norma Laflamme (Mario); Maureen Dollard; Terry Dollard (Cynthia); Glenda Fortuna (Lou), and Wanda Dollard (Mike Coles); and loving uncle to his nieces and nephews - Justin, Mikey, Jordan, Jeremy, Caitlin, Simone, Brandon and Kendall. His Aunt Millie and cousin, Maureen Taylor, held a very big space in his heart. There are many aunts and uncles and cousins on both the Dollard and Doucette side, as well as friends throughout Canada, whose life Brent has graced and who will miss him dearly. There will be a service at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax, NS, by invitation only on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at 2 p.m. The ceremony will be available virtually as well by using the following link. https://funeraweb.tv/en/diffsions/15344/wait In lieu of flowers make someone smile today. FORSYTH Andrew "Andy" Fowler Passed peacefully away on June 18th at St. Clare's Hospital in St. John's. Survived by his loving and devoted wife Loretta, son Gary, Andy's younger brother William (Rita) and family Jessica, Alison and Dillon, Andy's stepchildren Colleen (Mark), Heather (Dean) and Michael (Alana), grandchildren Scott, Jane, Ben and his many friends worldwide. Andy was the son of the late Margaret and Andrew and a proud patriot of Scotland. Born in Glasgow, his work in the offshore industry took him all over the world. He called many places home including St. John's, Heart's Delight and Halifax but his heart was always in Scotland. His pride could be heard when reciting a verse from Robbie Burns or explaining why the opening credits of Braveheart were inaccurate or why two drops (and only two drops) of water in a dram of Scotch were important. Andy's greatest pride was his beloved Rangers FC. The royal blue of the team's uniform was his favourite colour. Any visit to Glasgow was not complete without a trip to Ibrox Stadium. Andy was a longstanding member of the Masonic fraternity and one of the founders of the Halifax Burns Club. He loved to cheer on his grandchildren in sports, reading and addressing the Haggis on New Year's Eve when the clock struck midnight in Scotland. Andy has left us in body only. His spirit and his love will always be with us. Andy's family would like to thank Dr. Jennifer Leonard, Dr. Megan Robbins, the staff of Complete Medical and the staff of 4 east St. Clare's for their compassion and care during his illness. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. To send a message of condolence please visit www.carnells.com

LUNDRIGAN Leah Miles (HILLIER) age 88 of St. John's passed peacefully away at her home in the presence of both her daughters, at 6:30 am on June 27, 2020. She was born to the late Manuel and Jessie Hillier of Taylor's Bay. She was one of 13 children and has been predeceased by all except her youngest brother Reg. Leah moved to St. John's where she began a career that spanned almost 50 years. Her first job was at Ayre's supermarket where she met and married the love of her life, Bert Lundrigan on January 21, 1957. They enjoyed almost 60 years of marriage until his passing in 2017. Although she worked outside the home all her adult life, Leah was a devoted wife and mother whose family brought her her greatest joy. She opened her heart and her home to many friends and relatives over the years, whether they were coming to town for medical appointments, education or vacation. There was always a place in her home for anyone needing it. In her early years of child - rearing she was a committed Guider and leader and especially loved the camping trips. Leah had great faith in God and her Christianity and sought out opportunities to grow and learn in her faith. She was an active member of St. Thomas's Parish for many years and through the fellowship of her church she gave countless volunteer hours to Senior Citizen homes and the food bank. She sat on church committees and had the very fortunate opportunity to go on overseas missions with Bonnie on several occasions. Those were pivotal moments in her life that served to enrich her faith in the human spirit. Leah was so very proud of her daughters' accomplishments and education. It was very important to her and Bert that their children have opportunities not available to them. She instilled values of compassion and kindness to all those around her. She loved a good game of growl and her Sunday night poker games. She loved nature, and often said she felt closest to God when berry picking. She loved animals, spending time at her cabin, and socializing with friends. Leah is survived by her daughters, Wanda and Bonnie (Gerard Lahey), her beloved brother Reg Hillier (Isobel Hancott) grand-children, Chris Cox (Jessica Matos), Kate Lahey (Chris Meyers), Matthew Lahey (Beth Avery) as well as a huge circle of family and friends. The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to Dr. Roger Butler, Trina Snook, the palliative care team, paramedics, and community health nurses for their amazing care of Leah and support to the family over these past weeks. A private funeral service to celebrate Leah's wonderful life will be held on Monday, July 6, 2:00pm at St. Thomas Anglican Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that anyone wishing to donate do so to St. Thomas's Church in their efforts to support Emmaus House, an interdenominational food bank. OATES Thomas "Eugene" (Feb. 14, 1943 - June 30, 2020) "All I know about death is it seems to take everyone by surprise. I don't know why because it is literally the only thing that is in the contract" - Richard From Texas, Eat Pray Love Eugene (Gene) passed peacefully away at the Health Science Centre in St. John's. He was predeceased by his father Robert Oates, mother Rita Oates (nee Coady), daughter Gina Oates, sisters Mamie Learner and Marian Clements. He leaves to mourn his wife of 53 years, Maureen Francis Oates (nee O'Leary), daughters Lori Lee and Linette (Bob Simon), and his precious grandson Parker Simon. He leaves a loving sister, Irene Chaytor (Wayne); brother-in-law Daniel O'Leary (Anne); and nieces and nephews in Newfoundland and Labrador, Alberta, and in the United States. Eugene will also be missed by friends and neighbours on Della Drive in the Goulds, where he lived for 43 years. He was grateful for their care in his final years. A retired correctional officer, he will be missed by many colleagues from across the provincial correctional service, that he started working with at 22 years old. One of his proudest days was doing security for Pope John Paul II's visit to Newfoundland and Labrador in 1984. In his later years with the service, he would make deliveries to the Department of Justice at Confederation Building and greatly valued his relationship with then Justice Minister Lynn Verge. He was also honoured to attend funerals as part of the HMP honour guard. Eugene prided himself on his relationship with prisoners and believed in compassion. He completed two Tely-10s, each in approximately 70 minutes. He enjoyed running with his HMP colleagues and was proud of the fact that he could run Signal Hill twice on his lunch hour. An avid political watcher, he never missed the evening news and was particular about the difference between the NTV and CBC coverage. He told his daughters, "You should watch the news because it is important to know what is going on in the world". In his final days, he never missed Prime Minister Trudeau's Covid-19 briefings and knew every dollar that was being spent across the country. Eugene worked on political campaigns for Jean Payne, Loyola Hearn, Loyola Sullivan, and Keith Hutchings. He was also actively involved in NAPE and would silently cheer for strikers, even though he could not strike himself as an essential worker. He gleefully helped Lori print signs for her first student protest, at the NAPE headquarters in St. John's. He did not finish high school because there was no high school in Fermeuse in those days. However, he had the mind of a constitutional lawyer and could frequently be found winning arguments with Dr. Lori Lee Oates. He said that there would always be money for his daughters to go to school, as long as they wanted. Eugene bragged that his car could find its own way to Memorial University, both the St. John's Campus and to Sir Wilfred Grenfell Campus in Corner Brook, because he spent so much time driving his daughters to the university. His proudest days were when Lori received her Ph.D. and when his grandson Parker was born. He could never hide the fact that he always wanted a boy. A huge thank you for the compassionate care given by the staff of Emergency Services at HSC. Special thanks to Dr. Kathie Thoms, the Reverend Francis Roche, the nurses, and emergency medical technicians. Thanks to the staff at Fahey's Funeral Home in Fermeuse. Thanks also to Dr. Alison Hillman and Dr. W. Shane Williams for their medical advice over the years. He was a terrible patient and rarely took any of it but appreciated the thoughts none the less. You may leave a thought in the memorial page at Fahey's Funeral Home (https://www.faheysfuneralhomes.ca) in Fermeuse or on a family members' social media pages. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 7, at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Fermeuse, 11: 00 a.m. (pre-registration required, maximum of 50). Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Alzheimer's Society.

RYAN John P. Sept. 25, 1951 - June 3, 2020 John Paul Ryan of Colliers, Conception Bay passed peacefully away June 3, 2020 at Woodford's Comfort Manor, Holyrood. Predeceased by his wife Anita Veitch, and his parents James and Bridget (nee McGrath) Ryan. Leaving to mourn his sister Marie Hunt (Brendan), their children Ryan (Cherri-Lee), David, John (Danielle), Aaron, Claire (Michael) and his great-nieces Caitlin, Natalie and Anna Hunt, Alice and Olivia Finigan. His brother Jim Ryan, Edmonton (Gail), their children Darcy (Maureen), Sheila (Monce), Colleen (Neil) Shannon (Brandon), Caitlin (Mike) and Tim (Wendy) and his 10 "out west" great nieces and nephews, his aunt Genevieve Alo and uncle Slim Goodacre and numerous cousins and friends. In his life time John was not a morning person, and he always took his time doing everything, but when it came time for him to go, he went at the crack of dawn, quickly and without any fuss. He always enjoyed a bit of irony. John started his working career as a teacher but soon left it to pursue a variety of callings before settling into acting. His first taste of it was in amateur theatre, where, as a member of Centre Stage Players he won many awards. With his wife Anita, he took part in many productions and enjoyed taking their plays around the province, the country and foreign shores. Moving from amateur to professional brought him to the Trinity pageant with Rising Tide Theatre, helping to bring laughter and tears to audiences from near and far as they recounted our history in drama and song. He was the merchant who brought a tear to everyone's eye as he had to refuse credit to hungry folk who had nowhere to turn. In the winter season he brought many a laugh with "Revue" around the province. He loved theatre, loved a good recitation, a good song or poem. He was an avid reader who filled his house with books. With some neighbours in his hometown of Colliers, he helped keep the tradition of "the Wren" alive by visiting from house to house on Boxing Day and reciting the tale of the Wren. The reward for their recital was usually a Christmas libation and an opportunity to spin more yarns and enjoy the party. John had a distinctive, resonant voice and could be heard anywhere speaking at gatherings and special events. He read a reading at Pope John Paul's Mass in Quidi Vidi in 1984. He could be called upon to screech-in visitors, was rarely stuck for words and could use any excuse to propose a toast. While he and Anita loved to put on a show and take the show on the road, that love of life diminished when Anita passed away and when he became ill. He settled for lots of TV and despite everything, his political commentary was sharp to the end. John's family would like to thank Dr. Paul Walsh and Woodford's Comfort Manor for the excellent care that he received, even as he did not always go gentle into any good night. But gently he has gone now and we shall miss him. Due to restrictions imposed by COVID-19, a private funeral service will be held at Dunphy's Chapel, Holyrood with Interment to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Colliers. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory made to The Gathering Place, St. John's. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Dunphy's Funeral Home, Holyrood. Please visit www.dunphys.ca to sign the memorial guest book or to leave a message of condolence.

His career enabled him to experience, live and work across Canada, including Toronto, St. John's NL, and Nipawin SK, and in retirement Tiverton, Mitchell and Kitchener ON. These communities all had special people who provided fond memories. John was an active and eager volunteer everywhere they lived for either service groups or their church.
