Leaving to mourn his loving wife Frances (nee Oakley). Also leaving to mourn his six daughters, Judy (Alf), Marie (Jason), Geraldine (Ron), Karen (Terry), Jackie (Robert), Patti (Craig); 11 precious grandchildren, Darlene, Dennis, Kayla, Gary, Jason, Ron Jr., John, Jennifer, Scott, Andrew and Amy. Two precious great-grandchildren, Brittney and Tyler. One aunt Agnes Connors. Two sisters-in-law, Marg (Kevin), Kay (Paul); four brothers-in-law, Jim (Anne), Leo (Emma), Eddy (Joan), Bill (Mary); also special family friend Marg Connolly and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Predeceased by husband Harold Andrews, 1959 and brothers: Az (Margaret) Dawe, Fred (Minnie) Dawe and Hubert Dawe. Brother of George Austin (wife Iris) and loving uncle of Krista, all of St. John`s, Nfld. Predeceased by her husband Bill in 1997. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, sons: John and Jim Baker; daughters: Debbie Baker, Elizabeth Bragg (Myles) and Brenda Willcocks (Doug); eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Steve Hammond Jr. (Margaret); nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends; especially her friends at Golden Vista Manor, Shea Heights. BALODIS, Ralfs - Formerly of Riga, Latvia. Passed away suddenly on June 26, 2002, age 86 years. Leaving to mourn his wife of 62 years, Zenta; daughters: Kristine Penney, Ruta Zivtina (Juris); sons: Peter (Carolyn), Martin (Marie); grandchildren: Hayley and Chelsea Penney, Amanda, Kiki and David Balodis, Jason and Traci Balodis. Close family friends Arnis and Sofie Lucis and also Ingrid Pardoe. At Ralfs request cremation has taken place. A memorial service in his memory will be held on Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at 2 p.m. from the Carnell Memorial Chapel, 329 Freshwater Road. Reception to follow at the home of Kristine Penney. BARNETT, John Jr. - Passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer, in the presence of his loving family, on June 16, 2002, age 58 years, of Ferndale. Predeceased by his father John Barnett Sr.; sister Catherine; and brother Pat. Leaving to mourn his loving wife of 38 years, Irene; his mother Ellen Barnett; and mother-in-law Margaret Traverse; two daughters, Jackie (Calvin St. Croix), Shelly (Paul Freeburn); four sons, Carl (Glenda), Mike (Sandi), Randy (Lorraine), Jamie (Angie); sisters, Mary, Angela, Violet, Betty and Geraldine; brothers, Joe and Bill; grandchildren, Alex, D.J., Brittany, Hailey, Amy, Emily, Aaron, April and Preston. As well, he leaves a large number of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends, especially Chris and Pats Mulrooney. Special thanks to the staff of Placentia Health Care Complex, Power`s Ambulance Service and Father Jim Beresford. BARTLETT, William Frederick (Fred) - Passed away suddenly but peacefully at his home in Waterloo, Ontario on Monday, June 10, 2002. Predeceased by his wife Della Binkley in 1999, his parents James and Sarah (nee Grant) Bartlett and his brothers Jack, Douglas, Harry & James. Leaving to mourn his sisters Bernice of St. John`s, Ida Dietrich of Stratford and Mary Buckholtz of London, Ontario, also his brothers George and Bill (Theresa) of St. John`s. Also many nieces, nephews and friends. Cremation has taken place and at Fred`s request donations may be made to the Waterloo Legion Poppy Fund.

BELBIN, Eli Lorenzo - Age 75. Formerly of New Chelsea, Trinity Bay. Passed away at St. Clare`s Mercy Hospital on June 27, 2002. BISHOP, Hazel Winnie - Passed peacefully away June 21, 2002 after a wonderful stay at the Leonard A. Miller Centre, St. John`s, Hazel Winnie (Pinsent) Bishop, aged 81. A native of Grand Falls, Hazel and her late husband Cecil D. Bishop, established their home in Gander in 1946. A member of the Anglican Church Women`s Auxiliary, Hazel took an active role in the affairs of St. Martin`s Pro-Cathedral including the twenty years of Old Fashioned Concerts. She leaves to mourn her brothers: Harry Pinsent (Dorothy), Grand Falls, Gordon Pinsent (Charmion King), Toronto and sister Nita Knight, St. John`s; daughter June (Richard) Ellis, St. John`s; son Neil (Betty) Bishop, Stephenville; son Brian (Frances) Bishop, Wasaga Beach, Ontario; grandchildren Sean and Anneliese Ellis, Brian and Allison Bishop, and Samantha and Jaqueline Bishop. Hazel leaves a large circle of close friends who were touched by her wit, compassion and good humour. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 24, 2002 at St. Martin`s Pro-Cathedral, Gander. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery. The family requests donations to the St. Martin`s Pro-Cathedral Memorial Fund in lieu of flowers.

Left to mourn are sons Randy Richards (Shirley); Dennis (Karen); Charles (Marion); Wayne (Sandra); daughters: Sandra Miller (George); Marion Yetman (Rick); especially her loving daughter Violet, with whom she resided. Remembered fondly by her sister Gertrude Greeley; her brother Mick Richards; sisters-in-law Flora Butler, Madeline Bishop and Phyllis Crickard (Jack); brothers-in-law Ron Taylor (Effie) and Gordon Taylor; sadly missed by fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; Aunt Annie Richards; special friends Dennis and Marie Morgan and family; also, other relatives and friends. BONNELL, Reginald Harold - Beloved husband of Bernice (nee Dunne). Passed peacefully away at St. Clare`s Mercy Hospital on Wednesday, June 12, 2002, age 78 years. Happily married to Bernice for 55 years, he leaves to mourn son Reg (Noreen) of New Brunswick; daughters: Vickie Brown (Al) and Ivy Hoffman (Rob), both of Alberta; grandchildren: Ian, Darryl, Russell, Kathleen, Rob, Sean, Stephen, Erin, Andy and Kelly; and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by daughter Donna McIntyre (Mike) of Ontario. Reg will be sadly missed by brother Bob (Corner Brook); and sisters: Ella Pittman (St. Lawrence), Joyce Rogers (Grand Bank), Ivy Gill (Ontario); special friends Ralph and Alma Bonnell, as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. A veteran of WWII, Reg served in the Canadian Armed Forces for 30 years and along with his family travelled Canada with postings in Kingston, ON, Brandon, MN, Rivers, MN, Toronto, ON, Wainwright, AB, Dartmouth, NS and Calgary, AB before retiring to St. John`s with Bernice in 1983. Reg requested no viewing and no flowers. If desired, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Cancer Society. Cremation has taken place. BOUTILIER, Betty (nee Wood) - Passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre, St. John`s, NF and Lab. on Tuesday, June 11, 2002 in her 86th year. A native of Halifax, NS and daughter of the late Robert A. Wood and Beatrice (Davidson). She was predeceased by sister Gertrude (Sullivan) and three husbands: Wilfred Boutilier (Bedford, NS), William Reeves (Montreal, PQ) and Lawrence Redden (Halifax, NS). Leaving to mourn and admire loving son William L. Redden and family Barbara, Scott, Brett and Grant Redden as well as numerous loving and dedicated relatives and friends in Halifax, Montreal and St. John`s. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held in Halifax at a date and location to be announced with private interment to follow at Camp Hill Cemetery. BOYD, Elizabeth Katherine, Corner Brook, NF (formerly of St. Anthony), Feb. 24, 1922 - June 23, 2002 - Passed peacefully away on Sunday, June 23rd, 2002 at her home in the presence of her family, Elizabeth (Betty) Katherine Boyd (nee Pardy) at the age of 80. She will be greatly missed by her two daughters Joan Whitton, Connie (Foster) Lamswood; grandchildren: Tara (Jeff) Gillam, Donald (Darlene) Whitton, Scott (Sherri McNeil) Lamswood, Mark Lamswood, Jeff Lamswood; great grandchildren: Kristen and Kaitlynn Gillam, Alex and Rachel Whitton, Jamie and Ryan McNeil Lamswood; and a large number of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband William Donald Boyd. BUCKLEY, Lt. Col. Vincent J. - USAF, Retired. Passed peacefully away on Sunday, June 2, 2002 at Marcella Center, Burlington, NJ., at the age of 83. He was born in Elizabeth, NJ. Vince enlisted in the army in 1942. He was stationed at Pepperrell AFB in 1948 and again in 1957. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Mary B. Buckley, formerly of St. John`s, Nfld. and six children, four sons: Vincent J. Jr., Willingboro, NJ, Peter and wife Robin, Westampton, NJ, Brian in Willingboro and Kevin of Philadelphia, PA; two daughters: Kathleen M. Gilligan and husband Charles of Dowingtown, PA and M. Rebecca Buckley of Mohnton, PA; also eight grandchildren: Robert and Andrew, Jennifer, Katelyn and Sarah, Lauren, Kevin and Dillon; two nephews: Dr. William Yeomans of Scranton, PA and Francis Goodstein, Roselle Park; two brothers-in-law: Michael Goodstein of Roselle Park, NJ and Ronald J. Buckley and wife Theresa, residing in St. John`s, Newfoundland, Canada. Left with many beautiful memories are his caregiver, best friend and loving wife of 50 years, Gloria May; his two sons: Bruce and wife Betty Mate, St. John`s, Bob and fiancee Holly, Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and three precious grandchildren: Bethany, Matthew and Melanie Downer, as well as, brother Aaron (Harry) and wife Dorothy of St. John`s; three sisters: Annie Isnor of Halifax, N.S., Lillian Tucker and husband Wilfred, Newmarket, Ontario, and Minnie and husband Roy Pennell, Deer Lake; sisters-in-law: Joan Drodge and husband Eldon, Torbay, Jane Pffiefer, Orlando, Florida; brothers-in-law: Fred Locke and wife Anne, St. John`s, and Robert Fowlow, Trinity East; and a large number of nieces, nephews and former pupils, as well as many friends and former colleagues. Ray was a teacher, guidance counsellor and principal for more than forty years, and was also an officer of the Canadian Armed Forces with the Reserve Unit. DROVER, Lenzie Enid (nee Cluett) - Passed away peacefully in the presence of her daughter, son and daughter-in-law on June 2, 2002 at Sunnybrook Women`s College Hospital, Toronto, ON. Lenzie was in her 88th year and is predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Peter Drover, February 26, 1998. Lenzie was born in Garnish on July 28, 1914 and lived in Portugal Cove for over 63 years where she was an active and loved member of the community. She will truly be missed. DYKE, Lillian - Passed peacefully away at her home in Glovertown on June 25, 2002, Lillian Dyke in her 102nd year. Affectionately known at Nan by family and friends, she leaves to mourn daughter Geraldine Sweetapple (Leonard) and son Aubrey Dyke (Sandra). In addition five grandchildren: Clarence Sweetapple (Patsy), Sandy Dyke (Karen), Sean Dyke (Dianne), Stephanie Tonks (Bob) and Stuart Dyke (Pauline); as well as eight great-grandchildren: Sheldon, Trevor, Dustin, Cameron, Travis, Thomas, Heather and Sophia. She leaves behind her special friends Erdie, Bridie, Shirley, Jean, Madge, Evelyn, Nita and the others who were with her the last eight years. She is pre-deceased by her husband Joseph (November 22, 1978). Visitation was at Orams Funeral Home in Glovertown on June 26, 2002. She came to the United States in 1948 and resided in Melrose for several years before moving to Stoneham in 1989. She worked as a Stitcher for the former Copley Shoe Company and the Evans Shoe Company for several years until her retirement. She previously worked as a Nurses Aide at the Greenview Manor in Wakefield. Wife of the late James J. Hayes. Mother of Jane E. Dowd and her husband James of Woburn, Edward Hayes and his wife Sue Anne of Stoneham, Gerald J. Hayes and his wife, Diane of Rye, NY, Patricia McCarthy of Winchester and the late James E. Hayes and Denis M. Hayes. Sister of Dulcie May Saunders of New Brunswick, CN, and Frederick Guest and his wife Jane of St. John`s, Newfoundland, CN, and the late Laura Crane, Violet Thistle, Herbert Guest, Robert Guest, Evelyn March, George Guest, Alma Carter, Elizabeth Guest and Gordon Guest. SHEPHERD, Dr. Reginald S.M. - Passed peacefully away at the D.V.A. Caribou Pavillion on Saturday, June 1, 2002, Dr. Reginald Shepherd, R.C.A., LL.D., aged 78 years. From 1943-1945 Reg served with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He graduated from the Ontario College of Art in 1949 and was co-founder with Helen and director of the Newfoundland Academy of Art from 1949-1961. He studied in Holland for two years with a Royal Society of Canada Fellowship. He taught at Prince of Wales Collegiate in St. John`s from 1962-1980. During 1984-1985 his watercolour and print exhibition toured several galleries in England, and eight galleries in Ireland, opening at Garter Lane Arts Centre in Waterford, in July 1984 and was shown in Wexford, Cahir, Tralee, Galway, Limerick, Cork, and closed at the Sligo Art Gallery in February 1985. In 1985 as part of the exhibition, 12 Newfoundland Painters, Memorial University Art Gallery, St. John`s commissioned him to print a serigraph edition from Memorial University Print Portfolio. In 1986 he took part in the Memorial University Gallery 25th Anniversary Exhibition. In 1988 Reg received his degree of Doctor of Laws, Memorial University of Newfoundland and in 1990 he was elected to the Newfoundland and Labrador "Arts Hall of Honour." Reg is represented by paintings and serigraphs in numerous public, corporate and private collections. Leaving to mourn his wife Helen; son Scott (Sandra); grandchildren, Karen, Steven and Nancy Shepherd; brothers, Lorne (Eileen) Shepherd of Gander and Harry (Eda) Shepherd of South River; as well as other relatives and friends. Predeceased by grandson Brian Pinsent; sisters, Blanche and Stella; and brothers, Bill and Erwin. Predeceased by her husband, Hugh Vinnicombe; daughter Francis McGrath; grandson Paul Vinnicombe; and companion Al Bickford. Leaving to mourn, one daughter, Mary Oakley (Bill); three sons, Gerard Vinnicombe (Theresa), Hugh Vinnicombe (Jane), and William Vinnicombe (Elizabeth); brothers, Bill Breen (Joan), Robert Breen (Catherine), and Pat Breen; sister Mary Breen (Mable); stepbrother and sisters, Cyril, Betty, Kay, Annie and Helen; 19 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. Died suddenly as the result of a tragic accident at Nine Island Pond, Avondale, on Saturday, June 22nd, 2002, Frank Walsh in his 53rd year. Predeceased by his father, Walter, his sister, Shirley Quinlan, and his nephew, Andy Wade. Beloved wife of 58 years to Lyman Warren and a loving mother to Catherine Kennedy (Doug Forristall), Kenneth (Brenda), and Robert (Doreen), all residing in Newfoundland. She also leaves to mourn eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many special friends. Born in Annapolis Royal, NS, Marie resided in Winnipeg, MB, Deep Brook, NS, and St. John`s where she taught Home Economics at Holy Heart of Mary for several years. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at the James J. Hickey Memorial Funeral Home, Kelligrews, at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 17, 2002. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are son Mason (Lorraine) of Wesleyville; daughter Julia James (Kenneth) of Gander; brother Thomas (Marie) of Wesleyville; five grandchildren: Trudy Goodyear (Phillip), Cathy Carter (Keith), Michael Winsor (Allison), Joanne James-Geumei (Ahmed) and Bradley James; two great-grandchildren: Andrew and Ashley Goodyear; brothers-in-law: Boyce Winsor (Mabel) of Wesleyville and Don Winsor (Annie) of St. John`s; and a large circle of family and friends. Funeral took place on Saturday, June 8 from the Jubilee United Church, Wesleyville with Rev. Jung officiating. Interment followed from the United Church Cemetery (Old), Wesleyville.
