Badcock, Louise Marguerite (nee Manuel)
Louise Badcock died on June 23rd,
2000 in Truro, Nova Scotia in her 88th year.
She was born on March 7th, 1913 in Lewisporte, Newfoundland;
daughter of Robert William Manuel of Exploits, Newfoundland and
Jessie Sophia (Reader) Manuel of Bloomfield, Bonavista Bay. After
attending Memorial College, she graduated from Dalhousie University
with BSc, and worked in Oxford, London and New York before returning
to Newfoundland in 1946. She then married Wilfred Badcock of
Bay Roberts and together they established Humber Nurseries in
Corner Brook, a business they operated until moving to Nova Scotia
in 1964. After some years in Wolfville, NS., and Montreal, they
settled in Truro, NS, where Louise was very active in a number
of associations including the Multicultural Association, the
Hospital Auxiliary, the NDP, Amnesty International, the Local
Council of Women, the Colchester East Hants Regional Library
Book Discussion Group, and the Teviot Group and Group of Seven,
both refugee sponsorship groups. In some of these associations
she was active until the time of her death. Louise's husband
and her elder sister Ella Manuel predeceased her. Family members
include her son; Tim Babcock (Jakarta, Indonesia), daughter Christina
Roy and son-in-law; Jean-Claude Roy (France); grandsons; Paolo
Babcock (Halifax) and Nicholas Benedict (Toronto); nephews Antony
Berger (Victoria, BC / Woody Point, Newfoundland) and Jonathan
Berger (San Diego, CA); nieces Betty Ann Streeter (Toronto) and
Ruth Collins (Clarenville, Newfoundland); sisters-in-law; Phyllis
Badcock (Clarenville), Stella Payne (Winter Park, Florida) and
Jean Gwinn (Marrero, Louisiana); cousins; Gwen Freake and Sadie
Freake (Corner Brook) and Mallie Walters (St. John's). Louise
also leaves a remarkable group of friends of all ages who cared
deeply for her and were a great source of pleasure and support.
Louise's wishes were to be cremated, her ashes to be placed on
the grave of her husband at East Stewiacke Cemetery, and for
her friends and family to gather at her home in Truro for one
last good time together. This will take place on Tuesday, July
11th, 2000 at 3 pm., and all those who loved her are
invited to attend. Those who wish to, may make a donation to
Amnesty International or to Oxfam in Louise's memory. Arrangements
have been entrusted to the Mattatall Funeral Home, Truro, NS.

Born May 26th, 1912 in St. John's, Newfoundland, died June
10th, 2000 in Brantford, Ontario. Educated
at Memorial and McGill Universities, and formerly resident of
St. Lambert, Quebec, she was predeceased by her brother, Pilot
Officer David Gordon Morris (June 9th, 1942), and
her husband, Dr. Robert G. Baxter (January 1996). She is survived
by her sister; Mrs. Elizabeth Pearce of Ottawa, and her sons;
David Gordon (Dusty, with daughters Evalon and Willow), Dr. John
William Morris (Penny), James Durward Falconer (Brenda), and
Robert George Harwell. Georgie will be sadly missed by her grandchildren;
Andrew, Oliver, Erica, Megan, and John. A Memorial Service will
be held at 2 pm on Sunday, June 25th, 2000 at the

Of Victoria, BC.. Passed away the morning of June 12th,
2000, at home, after a battle with cancer. Born on May
28th, 1921 in St. John's, Newfoundland, and moved
to Victoria in 1945. Eleanor will be sadly missed by her sister,
Madeline Fisher and her many nieces, nephews and friends. She
was predeceased by her husband; D'Alton Cameron in 1974; her
father; Percy Fearn (1985); brothers; Frank (1989) and Basil
(1992); her mother, Alice (Tulk) Fearn (1989); and her twin sister
Dorothy Burton (1989). At her request there will be no service.

in Montreal, Quebec on June 14th, 2000,
in her 105th year. Beloved wife of the late A. Roy

Kerson) of Osprey, Florida, George (Isabel Gow Clarke) of Shawville,
Quebec and Joan (Bert) Hollingsworth of Vaudreuil, Quebec. She

1941- 2000
Francis Joseph McEvoy of Riverview, passed away at the
Moncton Hospital in Moncton on Monday, June 26th,
2000, age 58 years. Born in Collinet Island, Newfoundland,
on November 2nd, 1941. He is the son of Arthur D.
and Madeline (Power) McEvoy of Newfoundland. He was a former
peacekeeper with the R.C.A.F., retiring with the rank of Sgt.
Following his retirement from the services he was a self-employed
insurance broker and later operated Frank and Shirley's Card
Shop, located in the plaza on the Pine Glen Road. He attended
Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church, Riverview. Besides
his parents, he is survived by wife Shirley (Stewart) McEvoy;
two sons; Richard McEvoy (Sherry), Halifax, Daniel and fiancée
Andrea Hopkins, Sackville, NB; two foster sons; Michael, Ottawa
and M.J. at home; four sisters; Mary O'Connell (James), Newfoundland
, Edith Sweeney (Don), Sheila Parsons (Howard Parsons) and Jeannie
Piercey (Keith), all of Newfoundland; 7 brothers; William and
Veronica, Walter and Virginia, Joseph (Marjorie, predeceased),
Gerald and Sharon, Austin and Anne, Peter and Genevieve, and
Ed and Brenda, all of Newfoundland; and by several nieces and
nephews. He was predeceased by one foster daughter, Ginette in

Vincent will be lovingly remembered by his family, his wife of
43 years and best friends, Ella; daughter Margo March and her

brothers and sisters; Helen Detrick, Kevin (Marie), Ray (Mary),

Dwayne (Daphne), David (Irene); brothers and sisters-in-law;
Albert Roche (Ella), Dermot Roche (Rita), Hannah Dunphy, Charles
Roche, Sara Roche, Perpetua Nash; aunt; Bell Molloy; uncles;
Herb Hayward (Theresa), Richard (Mary), Sylvester (Kay), Rupert;
dear friends; Father Peter Muldowney of Ireland; as well as numerous

and the United States. He was predeceased by his father, Leonard;
mother; Theresa; and step-mother; Josephine.
Vincent was born in St. Shotts, Trepassey Bay, Newfoundland.
From 1954 to 1978 he worked as a heavy equipment/snow removal
operator on the Goose Bay Air Base, Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador.
He and Ella were married on September 7th, 1957. In
1979, he and Ella moved to Fort McMurray, Alberta and Vincent
worked as a crane operator for Syncrude Canada. He retired in
1991 and they moved to Branch, Newfoundland. In 1997, he and
Ella returned to Alberta, settling in Devon. Vincent worked again
as a crane operator, this time for PCL construction and COROD.
Throughout his life, Vincent was an avid Edmonton Oilers fan,
a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, a Member of Local 955
International Union of Operating Engineers, a dart player and
a card player, who loved to camp and fish. On June 21st,
2000, he died while fishing at Carp Lake Provincial Park, near
Prince George, British Columbia. He will be remembered as a dedicated
family man and a kind friend. Donations can be made to the Canadian
Cancer Society (1200 College Plaza, 8215 112 Street, Edmonton,
AB, T6G 2C8), or to the Vincent J. Molloy Memorial Bursary (Grand
MacEwan College Foundation, 7-105, 10700 104 Avenue, Edmonton,

Reid, Herbert
On June 8th, 2000 our beloved "Poppy",
peacefully passed away after a bravely fought battle with cancer
in Kamloops, BC. Herb was born on August 18th, 1931
in Upper Island Cove, Conception Bay, Newfoundland. He later
moved to Bell Island where he met and married his loving wife
of 47 years, Laura (Cole). In 1959, he moved to Cambridge, Ontario,
where he worked in the plastic industry for 18 years. Herb and
his family moved to Pinantan Lake, BC in 1977, where he finished
his working tenure of 10 years at Weyerhaeuser Canada/Pulp Division.
He will be missed dearly by his wife Laura, his six sons; Herbert
Jr., Gary (Beth) of Powell River, Robert (Pauline) of Cambridge,
Ontario, Gerry (Jayne), Jim, David (Petra), and his only daughter
Susan (Dave) Vachon, all of Kamloops and Pinantan Lake. Poppy
will also be missed by his 14 grandchildren; Sonia, Jason, Shane,
Shannon, Shaun, Rob, Jamie Lee, Tiffany, Melissa, Desiree, Dawson,
Stacy, Shelby and Samantha; as well as 6 great-grandchildren;
Shawna, Colin, Austin, Adam, Braydon and Bobby. Herb will also
be sadly missed by his 6 brothers; Edward, Lew and Ernie of Ontario,
Syd of Calgary, Albert and Don of BC; and two sisters; Irene

71, of Waverley, passed away at home on June 7th,
2000, with family and friends by his side. Scotty was
born in Grand Falls and enjoyed an early life in Newfoundland,
moving to Nova Scotia in 1965. He was employed with Air Canada
for 35 years, retiring in 1983. He was an active member of the
Royal Canadian Legion Dieppe # 90, Waverley for the past 35 years.

Died as a result of a tragic traffic accident on Sunday,
June 25th, 2000, in Belize, Central America, Michelle
Spencer-Yates, age 36 of Glenwood, Newfoundland. Left
behind to wonder why, her partner Ignatius (Gomier) Longville;
her mother Emma Yates and father, Gerald Spencer; brother; Frederick
Spencer (Christine); nephew; Lucas and grandmother; Florence
Yates. Predeceased by her adored Pop, Lloyd Yates in 1981. Michelle
also leaves a large circle of relatives- aunts, uncles, cousins-too
many to mention, but all will miss her. Throughout North and
Central America. Michelle had a great many devoted friends and
colleagues whose lives have been altered by her death. Michelle
worked for the past 10 years with a number of international humanitarian
aid organizations throughout Central America and the Caribbean.
Her work overseas was driven by the fundamental beliefs which
she held. She worked to enhance tolerance among peoples and to
secure equal rights for women. It was her ability to make do
with what was available and to create what was lacking, which
helped her work in poor rural areas. Her work, particularly among
the Maya Indians of Belize, was driven by respect and tolerance,
and focused on creating sustainable economic alternatives for
the cultural survival of local indigenous peoples. Resting at
the Pentecostal Church, Glenwood, July 3rd, 2000.

WHELAN, Mary, A. (nee Whelan) -
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of our wonderful
mother in her 87th year on Monday, June 26th, 2000 at
the Health Sciences Centre after a short illness. Predeceased by her
husband Edward (1951), infant daughter Rosemarie; her sisters Angela
Murrin, Martina Rice and Catherine Short; and grandson Darrin Crotty.
Leaving to celebrate her life are her ten children: five daughters:
Florence Crotty (John), Bernice Crotty, Judith Perry (Kevin), Jeanette
Hollister, Paulette Corbit (Tom); and five sons: Leo and wife Barbara,
John and wife Geraldine, Robert and wife Esther, Jerry and Sandra,
Paul and wife Ethel; her twenty-five grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren;
and her many nieces and nephews. All will miss her so much. Funeral
mass will take place at Mary Queen of the World Church on Wednesday,
June 28th, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre
Cemetery, Topsail Road. Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in
her memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Whelan, Captain Matthew P.
Of Colliers. Passed peacefully away at the Palliative Care Unit
on June 9th, 2000, in the presence
of his family. Predeceased by his wife Bridget in 1990. Leaving
to mourn are his 9 children; 7 sons; Donald (Rosaleen Guy),
Matthew (Mary Lou), Bill, Douglas, Bernard, John (Kathy Andrews),
Joe (Debbie Furlong); two daughters; Marie Hedderson (Dave
Wade) and Marilyn Elmourne; former daughters-in-law; Waneta
Whelan and Patsy Whelan; 21 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren;
three sisters; Sister Mary Gladys Whelan, Genevieve Hynes (Gerard),
and Helen Boone (Terry); and one brother; John Aloysius Whelan.
Remains resting at Conway's Funeral Home, Conception Harbour.
Visitation on Saturday from 5- 10 pm and Sunday from Noon to
10 pm.. Funeral to take place on Monday, June 12th,
2000 at 11 am, from Immaculate Conception Church, Colliers.
Williams, George Francis
Died peacefully at home in Halifax on June 19th,
2000, after a courageous battle with cancer. Son of
the late Herbert and Mary (Glynn). George was born in St. John's,
Newfoundland, June 1st, 1946. A graduate of Memorial
University, he worked in the education system as a teacher, consultant
and director of professional development. George later established
himself in the investment industry in Nova Scotia where he rose
to management with Wood Gundy and became president of Scotia
Bond. Most recently he achieved national recognition in the financial
industry as a sought after personal and group coach with his "Managing
Me" series. A charismatic leader with an infectious
enthusiasm for life, his own wonderful wit and great strength
of character, he will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Surviving are wife Margaret Hayden; children; Geoffrey and Elizabeth;
brothers; Herbert, Kitchener, Kevin, Sarnia; sister Patricia
Lawlor, St. John's; and mother-in-law Ferne Hayden, Saint John.
He was predeceased by his sister Margaret Kinsley. A Memorial
Service will be held at All Saints Cathedral, 5732 College Street
on June 22nd, 2000, at 2 pm. Visitation at 6069 Oakland
Road on June 21st, 2000 from 7-9 pm. Cremation has
taken place. A Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established
at Queen Elizabeth High School. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made through the Bank of Nova Scotia, 6005 Coburg Road,
Halifax, NS, B3H 2Y8.
Winsor, Arthur Gladstone
(Retired CN Employee). Passed peacefully away in the presence
of his loving family on June 2nd,2000,
aged 80 years. Leaving to mourn his loving and devoted wife
of 48 years, Martha; daughter Doreen Esperanza; son Maurice;
daughter Pauline Morgan (John); and son Paul (Michelle); nine
dearly loved grandchildren; Tony, Amie, Angela and Alex Esperanza,
Sheri and Robert Winsor, Charlotte Morgan and Rebecca and Christian
Winsor. Also leaving to mourn brothers; Gordon (Frances), Ned
(Sophie), Jack (Melinda) and twin brother Fraser (Jean); sisters-in-law;
Neta Winsor and Stella Winsor; also a large circle of family
and friends. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton
Avenue from 7-9 pm Friday, June 2nd, 2000.; 2-9
pm Saturday and 2-9 pm Sunday. Funeral Service to take place
at 11 am on Monday, June 5th, 2000 from Barrett's
Chapel with interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. No flowers
by request. Donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
