He knew that you were suffering. He knew you were in pain. He knew that you would never get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb. So he closed your weary eyelids and said, "Peace be thine". It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn't go alone. For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.

A hard worker, she was an employee at Cambridge Towel and then Allen Bradley where she retired from at the age of 62. Kay was very proud of her Newfoundland heritage but loved living in Cambridge. She was very involved in St. Ambrose parish and until recently attended Mass daily. Her faith was a source of strength and peace in her declining health. She loved her family with all her heart and leaves behind her children Gary (Grace), Roxanne Rourke (Frank), Dane (Kathy), Cherree Roberts (Gary) and Joseph. Proud Grandmother of Jennifer Appiah (Rocky), Nicola Giralt (Andrew), Shayna Smith (Kevin), Aimee, Heidi (Matt), Erin (Meredith), Scott, Lindsay Roberts and Stacey Kearns (Sean). From Kay's children: We would also like to acknowledge the wonderful visits by her many dear friends and countless prayers said in her honour along with the countless friendships she had throughout her life. She appreciated and loved all of you. There are many incredible people to thank who assisted mom in her journey. For their wonderful support we would also like to acknowledge Dr. Hahn and the oncology dept. at CMH, our amazing RN's who came to the house, the dedicated PSW's and other healthcare professionals who treated her so well. His Sisters: Irene Oliver, Winnifred (Dolly) McCutcheon, Brothers: Austin Williams, Charlie Williams, & Ronnie Hopkins. Although we mourn Richard's death, we also celebrate his life. Richard lived life to the fullest and in his own way. He was an avid politician, who loved Labrador and his community of Rigolet. He was a counselor and past mayor of Rigolet. He fought for Inuit rights, and residential school survivors. He touched many lives and will be missed. Many people were touched by his love of family and friends of Labrador and especially his home community of Rigolet. In the 1970's he was on the committee that organized the first community government in Rigolet. And he served on the community government for most of those years and recently served as the Deputy AngajukKak. Keith Watts says "Richard was instrumental in establishing the Torngat Fisheries Co-op." He served 39 years on the Board in positions such as Director, President, Vice-president, as well as on the Executive of the Board, and was currently Secretary of the Board. Keith also said "Richard had a keen interest and passion for the fishery" and he received numerous awards for his volunteer service and dedication to Torngat Fisheries Co-op. Richard was awarded the Queens Jubilee medal for service to Labrador. Wally Andersen said "Richard was interested in more than service to his community of Rigolet and the North Coast" for which he received many awards. He began service on the transportation committee beginning in the 1990's where he pushed for a roll-on, roll-off ferry service for the North Coast of Labrador, which finally began in 2019. Wally said "What he would remember most about Richard was friendship, and that he was friendly with everyone and that he would go to a heated meeting, and when the meeting was over he was friends with everyone and never held a grudge." He was presented with the Wayne Earle award by the Combined Councils of Labrador in 2012. He served on too many Municipal, Regional & Provincial committees to name them all. His family is proud of his accomplishments. The family would like to thank all staff of Groswater Bay Clinic, Nursing staff and Home Care workers at DHSD Office in Rigolet (Nunatsiavut); the Doctors and Nursing staff at the Labrador Health Center in Happy Valley-Goose Bay and the CCU unit at the Health Sciences in St. John's. Special thanks to those in the community of Rigolet who went above and beyond and helped him during his illness. Cremation has taken place. It is with deep sadness that our family announces the passing of our dearly beloved Mother on July 31, 2019 at Kenny's Pond Retirement Home, St. John's. Mom never lost her zest for life. She remained young at heart and her children often said that, in her mind and spirit, she was still 16 years old. Her energy was boundless, and a favorite saying of hers was, "I want to get going!" She enjoyed traveling and had a special fondness for Florida where they had a vacation home for many years. She loved to shop, and was always beautifully dressed, complete with matching jewelry and makeup. As the years went on, she was appreciative of the important role that "the boys" played in her daily life, and she enjoyed the company and assistance of her many family members as well. A truly great lady, she will be sorely missed. She will live on through her cherished children Douglas (Jacqueline), Paul (Ingrid), Glenn (Rosalie), Greg (Doreen) and Allan (Regina). Grandchildren Stephen (Katherine), Raylene (Mark McCarthy), Andrea (Phil Kellett), Erika (James Fisher), Jessica (Simon Wilbee), Carolyn (Allan Hawco), Jed, Allison (Thomas Bentley), Stephanie (Richard Trahan), Lesley, William ( MarkHarbora) and Lauren. YARD, Cyril (Bud) Joseph
Passed away at the Caribou Memorial Veteran's Pavilion on Sunday, July 7, 2019, Cyril (Bud) Joseph Yard, age 83 years. His passing came unexpectedly but he went very peacefully as the evening sun shone in his room, and he was surrounded with the love of his children, their spouses, his grandchildren, sister, caregivers, and - true to his lifelong love of animals - even his favorite pooch lay next to his bed. Cyril is predeceased by his parents, Christopher and Florence Yard, brother Walter Yard, his beloved wife of 33 years Joan Yard (nee Puddister), and later his companion of 12 years after being widowed, Margaret Hannaford. Leaving to mourn his children, David Yard and his fiancé Crystal, her daughter Jorja. Lorna Yard and her husband Alan Richards, and Christopher Yard. Also leaving to mourn his grandchildren Tyler (Hayley) and Caitlin Yard. Cyril also leaves behind his sisters Eleanor Whelan (Bill), Maureen Shano Williams (Albert), Mary Dillon (Michael, deceased), Anita Bromley (Kevin), Annie McCarthy (Mart), and Irene Dunne (Michael, deceased). He also leaves to remember him many nieces, nephews, and friends. A very special thank you to the staff of Masonic Park from 2014-2016, and to the staff of the Caribou Memorial Veteran's Pavilion from 2016 - 2019. Long term care is not an easy journey for anyone and he struggled with it, as we did too. But we deeply appreciate the care and compassion he was shown, as well as the care that was given to us as well. Cyril worked for the federal government for 37 years. He started his career at the age of 15 as the 'office boy' delivering mail and sharpening pencils. His hard work and diligence saw him win a number of awards with the public service, and he finished his career as acting director for what was then Unemployment Insurance. Over the years he spent many hours at his kitchen table helping people sort UI claims, and was generous with his time, efforts and resources for anyone who needed help. He had a life long love of animals and rescued a number of them from the SPCA. Visitation at Ryan's Funeral Home, Bay Bulls on Tuesday, July 9th from 2 pm to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial to take place from St. Patrick's R.C. Church, Witless Bay, on Wednesday July 10th, at 10 am. Interment to follow at Holy Cross R.C. Cemetery, Witless Bay. The family invites you to attend a reception afterwards at the Sapphire Pub and Eatery in Bay Bulls.
